I sincerely believe this figure is far cry from the actual figures 1. We Employed 4 persons at our firm this June and i Never Saw NBS around to take the data 2. Our basis for arguing about Unemployment has been tied to white collar jobs for Graduates which is very wrong 3. Daily thousands of Unemployed secondary school leavers OND holders are employed and even illiterates are employed in the Formal and informal sector this is hardly accounted for Example: Can you estimate the number of (Maigaidi ) security or gate men employed in Houses and firms in August Do you. Know the number of house helps and domestic assistant engaged in July 4. I can't count the No of times in a week I see the sign A sales girl wanted Marketers Wanted Urgently Sales Boys wanted apply in person 5. When you count the No of Igbo Boys brought from the village daily to serve masters in different sphere of business (spare parts , building materials, clothing , fashion lines , pharmaceutical , Medicines ,hotels ) and be settled later which I consider an employment because there is remuneration afterwards You will understand why I believe this figure is low 6. Most artisans ( Carpenter , Mason, POP architects , welders etc don't stay idle they get jobs to do virtually every week Two welders I know who make gates Have more than 4 boys working for them each these men have mini estates for rent which they built from the welding business 7. Many clinics are looking for auxillary nurses , small and medium scale enterprises are searching for men and women to engage The biggest problem we have noticed in at our firm however is 1. Finding Honest men and women who could be entrusted with Money! The get rich quick syndrome has made the staff turnover for many SMEs very high , young men and women want to Use a 110' k fone on a 35'K salary as such they are tempted to dip their hands into monies they are suppose to safe guard ! If you want to know how strong Nigeria's economy is. Start selling something people Need ! God Bless Nigeria www.twitter.com/ochejoseph |
The Oyakhilome divorce story continues to be a gift that keeps on giving, for the tabloid media. Last week, news emerged that Rev. Anita Oyakhilome, estranged wife of the founder and president of Christ Embassy Church, Dr. Chris Oyakhilome had filed for divorce in a London court on grounds of adultery and unreasonable behaviour. Later in the week, Rev. Anita is reported to have sworn to go through with the divorce which has scandalised the church for the past two weeks. The controversy appears to have claimed its first casualty in the church. Saturday Sun reports that a London pastor of the Christ Embassy Church, simply known as Pastor Grace has been fired by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome. The pastor was fired in May 2014 for allegedly putting together a prayer team towards the restoration of the Oyakhilome marriage. One of the pastors who works in the church spoke anonymously to The Sun, said that Pastor Grace put the prayer team together when Rev. Anita stopped attending church services in the London branch of the Christ Embassy Church. “We suspected this issue is going to go public some day since the day Pastor Chris sacked Rev Grace for meddling in his family affairs by openly calling for prayers among some members in London when Rev Anita stopped coming to the church she was shepherding while all efforts to get her failed,” the minister said. “Some us believe our colleague in London did the right thing by seeking spiritual help for the family but I think Pastor Chris misread her intention and had to travel to London when he heard of the move to sack her and contain the spread of rumour among members in London.” The suit, with number FD14D01650, was filed on April 9, 2014 at Divorce Section A, Central Family Court, First Avenue House, High Holborn, London, UK, on Rev. Anita’s behalf by Attwaters Jameson Hill Solicitors, a full-service law firm with expertise in commercial law and a strong consumer focus in family, wills and estate, among others. Pastor Chris has reportedly assembled a legal team to put up a defense in court against the wife’s allegations. Chris Embassy is easily one of the Nigeria’s biggest church denominations with membership in hundreds of thousands and branches all around the world. Since the news of the divorce broke, Rev. Anita’s pictures have been wiped from the church’s website. The Oyakhilomes have been married for more than twenty years. These questions are not about bleaching or greasy hairstyles, they are sincere questions meant to provoke genuine and deep meditation About life and style of the Christ Embassy leader and his followers ? Question #1 1. Is it right for a Man of God or any man for that matter to leave apart from his wife for such a long time considering the position of the scripture below? 1 Corinthians 7:3-5 3. The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights (goodwill, kindness, and what is due her as his wife), and likewise the wife to her husband. 4. For the wife does not have [exclusive] authority and control over her own body, but the husband [has his rights]; likewise also the husband does not have [exclusive] authority and control over his body, but the wife [has her rights]. Do not refuse and deprive and defraud each other [of your due marital rights], except perhaps by mutual consent for a time, so that you may devote yourselves unhindered to prayer. But afterwards resume marital relations, lest Satan tempt you [to sin] through your lack of restraint of sexual desire. (Amplified Bible) Question #2 The free dictionary defines Asunder as setting "Apart from each other either in position or in direction" Does your directives barring husbands and wives from worshiping in the same parish not a clear violation of the scripture below ? Matthew 19:4-6 Amplified Bible (AMP) 4. He replied, Have you never read that He Who made them from the beginning made them male and female, 5.And said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be united firmly (joined inseparably) to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? 6. So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder (separate). Question #3 Considering the advice in the scripture below ,do you think it is proper to Keep the "whites House " ladies whose actions have set a wedge between you and your wife ? Seeing that she is bitter about the disrespectful manner you treat her in the presence of these women ! 1 Peter 3 vs 7 "In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered. (NLT) Question #4 It was God himself who said in Genesis 2:18 that “ It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” Do you think it is proper to stay Alone as a man? Question #5 For the 16 years Rev Anita has stayed alone raising your two lovely kids. Please how did you expect her to stay warm according to the scripture below ! Ecclesiastes 4:11-12 “Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Question #6 In a Full year calendar your Family does not future in your travel Plans ! So how do we classify you according to the scripture below ? Seeing that the emotional and matrimonial need of your children and wife have been differed! 1 Timothy 5:8 (King James Version) "But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. Question # 7 Do you really Love your wife ? If the answer to this final question is Yes! Then A. Throw away the garment of arrogance and put on the coat of humility B. Accept the fact that you have made certain errors and draft other ministers to take over any impending Crusade you might have planned C. Reschedule whatever preaching engagements you have in your schedule D. Prayerfully Redeploy all the Home breakers in the "white house" and replace them with senior women or men of God . E . Book a one way ticket to the UK F. Meet, reconcile and fellowship with your family, they are your first church. Charity must begin at home. G. Mistakes might have been made, but show me one person who does not make mistakes and I will point my hands to heaven ! Take sincere measures to right all the wrongs inflicted on your family over the years May Jehovah Shalom the God of peace himself envelop your family with his perfect Peace !!! Best wishes Pastor Oche Otorkpa RCCG www.twitter.com/ochejoseph http://tsuntsumediaservices..com/2014/09/seven-sincere-question-for-pastor-chris.html?m=1

Op your analysis is Spot On 1. Bala Mohammed might have good intentions but I sincerely hope that the Op has made his Job much easier 2. I don't think the minister can remember the last time he took a Taxi if not he would have been able to get his Maths right, assuming that his Free Car and free fuel has not be clouded his sense of judgment 3. PDP led units must not start this elitist kind of behavior of the APC that pushes poor and struggling families to the brink of extinction, I sincerely hope the minister will take a second look and do the needful God Bless the Op and God Bless Nigeria www.twitter.com/ochejoseph |

By chinenye Ugonna For all those who live in Abuja, we all know how high the cost of living is. Those who moved after NYSC or probably got jobs and had to move to start life afresh can relate to this. No mummy and daddy, no pocket money. Now the hustle is real! You are on your own. The truth is, there are still ways you can survive and hustle your way out in Abuja. This would give you a few tips on how to save money and survive as a young person here in Abuja. 1. DON’T DATE A FABB: If you read my previous article, How to spot a Fake Abuja Big Girl, you should understand what this means. We all know that the FABBs are expensive to maintain. So if you are a guy just coming into Abuja, to make a proper decent living, run away from FABBs. They would finish your money before you say Jack Robinson. 2. AVOID DEBTS: Please, this is a major way of finishing your money before the salary even hits your bank account. Most times you realise that your money is spent before getting to you. This is the problem. Especially ladies, you see these shoes you cannot let go. To even make it better, Aunty Ngozi says, don’t worry, you can pay anytime. Run! 3. DO IT YOURSELF: This is another way to cut cost. Some of us probably take our clothes to really expensive drycleaners, get people to clean our houses, tailors to just sew on a button. The point here is, if you try to do some things yourself once in a while, you would be amazed at how much money you would be able to save. 4. PRE-TURN UP OR DON’T TURN UP AT ALL: This is for all those who feel that they must turn up every Friday. After the stress from Monday to Friday, you see people shouting TGIF (Thank God its Friday), turn up! . Instead of buying five bottles at the club, sometimes, save your money and turn up from home with you, your bed and pillow. If you really need to go out, buy a few bottles and chill with your friends in your house or vice versa, get tipsy and excited and head out. That way, you do not have to buy as many bottles in the club. Well, only if you want to do ‘I better pass my neighbour’ and finish your monthly salary in the club. 5. ENTER ALONG, BUS OR KEKE: For those of you who do not know what ‘along’ means, they are the cabs you enter with three or four other people and get dropped off at your bus stop. Some people do not have the luxury of taking cabs every day. Even if you feel like it would spoil your shine if you are caught in a keke or a bus, sometimes its necessary. Cut down on your transportation expenses. Whether you enter along, cab, bus or even private car, you will still get to your destination. 6. CHEAPER FEEDING: Those who work, they can relate to this. There are two ways to it. Firstly, the best way is to bring your lunch from home. Secondly, if you cannot cook or bring food every day, take the cheaper option of buying food from clean cheaper restaurants where you can buy food for a minimum of N300. If you like, do KFC every day and be drinking garri for dinner because you want your colleagues to see you as a big boy or big girl. 7. GET A FLATMATE/FLATMATES: We all know getting a flat in town is always too pricey for our salary, especially for most young graduates. We also know that to get a cheap nice flat that meets your taste, you have to go to the suburbs which are not in town. This could be a little tedious, especially with most people working in town. The best option is to get a flatmate so you can share rent. 8. SHOPPING: You do not always have to shop at expensive boutiques because your friends who are earning higher than you are doing the same. We all know most of these Nigerian boutique owners travel out of the country to buy things and then come back to triple the prices. All fingers are not equal. There are cheaper ways to do this like markets and online shopping sites that do not charge for shipping to Nigeria like Asos. You can still look good with the few ones you have. 9. CALCULATE YOUR EXPENSES: Now after all the turning up, the keke you entered from work, the clothes you have bought from Mama Chinedu, etc. Calculate all the money you have spent which would be a guide to your expenses next month. Do not be moved by what people would think of you. God will do it for us one day when you would have enough money to be buy your Rolls Royce. Cut your coat according to your cloth! http://tsuntsumediaservices..de/2014/09/9-ways-to-save-money-as-young-person-in.html?m=1 |
1. Floppy disk : at a point in time it was our only source of storing data , as a university undergraduate you must have one to store either project or materials at a Business Center, it was very useful and very vulnerable. But show it to an undergraduate today and he/she will tell you what the heck I'd this ? 3 GSM Antenna : its very easy to forget how time flies , when the global system for Mobile telecommunication was introduced in Nigeria only major cities had access to the Network , in some areas people had to climb trees or mountains with their Nokia 3310 or Samsung R220 to get network. Those days call centers had GSM antenna attached to a phones to enable acquire signal, all that is history now ! 3.Cellophane water: Before the advent of pure water or what others choose to Call packaged water , Nigerian's had long been in the business. It was simple A. Buy a pack white nylons. B.Fill each with tap water C. Tie up with sack rope D. Refrigerate E. Start selling Thanks to pure water this technology has been archived 4,Nintendo, Sega and Un branded Games Yes this Names still exist as games today but many have forgotten how computer games were the exclusive preserve of rich kids , as a poor kid or a child from a middle income home computer games are things you see in school with that dude whose father owns the tallest building in the city. today with= N= 100 you can get any game software its that easy ! 5.VCR: Do you remember watching any Indian movie through the window of your neighbors house because your family could not afford one , you are not alone: Movies like MAD , Distinambari 10 10 10, Mother India, Snake in the monkey shadow were all available Towards the end of the 90s Video cassettes where everywhere but today most kids would not know what a VCR or VCP is used for, even CD and DVDs are been phased out thanks to technology Remember Toshiba ,Sharp ! How time Flies 6. Black and white TV At a time in our history Lucozade cellophane is the only thing that can confer color on your Black and white TV, it was a technology that lasted for a long time , you watch voltron, Super Ted every on the black and white screen every Saturday and eat white rice and stew which only come on sundays ! If you try that with your child today you won't like what the kid will tell you ! 7. ___________? I will leave the Seventh Blank and allow you decide which other outdated technology made great impact on the lives of nigerians www.twitter.com/ochejoseph http://tsuntsumediaservices..co.uk/2014/09/7-outdated-technologies-that-had-great.html?m=1 |

The 19-year old law student of the Ahmadu Bello University [ABU] suspected to manifest some symptoms of the Ebola Virus Disease [EVD] has tested negative to the virus. Authorities of ABU and the Kaduna State Government had sent the patient’s blood to Lagos for testing after he reportedly manifested some symptoms associated with Ebola while on admission at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital [ABUTH]. The state Commissioner For Health, Thot Dogo, had told PREMIUM TIMES Tuesday night that the result of the test was being expected on Wednesday afternoon (today). But Ebola Alert, an authoritative evidence-driven group of volunteer professionals working on Ebola Virus Disease interventions in the country, told this newspaper laboratory test has shown the student does not have the virus. An official of the group, who simply identified himself as Ladi, said the test, concluded earlier on Tuesday night, came out negative. “Yes, it is true that the result is negative,” Ladi said in response to an enquiry by PREMIUM TIMES. “Whatever information Ebola Alert puts out is authentic.” PREMIUM TIMES had contacted the group after it tweeted on its handle (@EbolaAlert): “The Kaduna rumour is not #Ebola after laboratory test. “Reaching a diagnosis of #Ebola is dependent on a laboratory test. However close it may be, it is not Ebola until it is Ebola.” The Federal Ministry of Health and the Kaduna State Government are expected to announce the result of the test later on Wednesday. The Kaduna Commissioner for Health, Mr. Dogo, had told PREMIUM TIMES that the student had been on admission at the hospital for a week. He said after he “developed rashes with redness of the eyes”, authorities became suspicious and decided to isolate him and test him for Ebola. The state government also provided protective equipment to medical officers attending to the patient, Mr. Dogo said. But in a series of tweets Tuesday, Ebola Alert urged doctors and hospitals to refrain from divulging patients’ information so as not to stigmatize them while also creating panic in society. It reminded Nigerian doctors and hospitals to note that several other diseases share symptoms with Ebola. The organization said, “We hope our hospitals will continue to keep health information of their clients and care givers confidential especially #SUSPECTED#EBOLA. “It is equally important to stay professional by not creating panic in the interest of your staff, patients and country at large. #Ebola “Several diseases share symptoms with #Ebola and there are other viral haemorrhagic fevers. “In an #EbolaOutbreak, it is challenging for the healthcare workers to balance between high suspicion and misdiagnosis. Remain professional. “It will be hard to have public panic if patients #health#information is kept confidential as is #ethically required; even #Ebola patients. “We hope our colleagues continue to remain professional as we work on this together. #Ebola#HCW#Nigeria Do not put patients’ info out there. “When you wrongly classify an ill person as an #Ebola patient, we hope you will be around to clean the stigma caused. #CAUTION “Reaching a diagnosis of #Ebola is dependent on a laboratory test. However close it may be, it is not Ebola until it is Ebola. #CAUTION “Healthcare is a very responsible and accountable sector. #Ebola will bring out these leadership attributes out of us. Let’s lead now.” UPDATE: Suspected Kaduna Ebola Case Tests Negative http://feedly.com/e/TzmSuRmR |

ABUJA - The latest governance poll conducted by the NOIPolls Limited indicated that 61 percent of adult Nigerians have approved the job performance of President Goodluck Jonathan last month, especially in the area of improved electricity supply to some households. The results showed that while 41 percent approved of it, 20 percent strongly endorsed the President’s performance. President Jonathan This rating currently being at par with the rating obtained in January 2014, represents a 1-point drop from July’s rating which was recorded at 62 percent. More findings according to the polls revealed that slightly more than half 51 percent of adult Nigerians experienced an improved state of power supply to their households within the past one month According to NOIpolls, “an assessment of the President’s performance on key elements of his transformation agenda in the month of August revealed that the President received an average three rating in his performance on Job creation, power, economy, education, health, agriculture & food security, “Transportation and Foreign Policy & Diplomacy except for Security, which he performed poorly. Still based on his transformation agenda, the month of August saw a push in the President’s performance on Power and Economy to an average rating (3) following a continuous poor rating since February 2014. “This figure illustrates the highest positive rating recorded in power supply from the inception of the NOIPolls power monitoring polls in January 2013. These are some of the key findings from the Governance Snap Poll conducted in the week of August 25th 2014. “These results represent the eighth in the 2014 monthly series of governance polls conducted by NOIPolls to gauge the opinions and perceptions of Nigerians regarding the approval rating of the President, the performance of the President on key elements of his transformation agenda, and the state of power supply in the country. The firm explained respondents to the poll were asked three specific questions on job performance of President Goodluck Jonathan over the past 1 month and that the results revealed that 61 percent of adult Nigerians surveyed approve of the President’s performance where 41 percent approve and 20 percent strongly approve. “A total of 26 percent of the respondents assessed disapprove of the President’s performance, where 18 percent disagree and 8 percent strongly disagree. Furthermore, 13 percent remained neutral as they neither approve nor disapprove. On zonal analysis, the NOIPolls said “the South-East and the South-South zones accounted for the largest fraction of respondents who approve of the President’s job performance with 89 percent and 74 percent respectively. The North-Central and North-West zones have the highest proportion of respondents who were neutral with 20 percent and 17 percent. “Also, the North-East zone and the North-West zone have the largest proportion of respondents who disapprove of the President’s job performance with 41 percent and 38 percent respectively. “Monthly trend analysis of the President’s approval rating reveals that the President’s approval rating remained almost stable with a slight decline by 1-point to stand at 61 percent in August 2014. This current result and that obtained in January 2014 both represent the second highest rating since NOIPolls started its governance poll in January 2013. Likewise, the average rating of the President’s job performance after 8 months is at 56.5 percent, this implies that the President performed above his 8- month’s average by 5-points. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/09/61-nigerians-approve-jonathans-performance-survey/ http://tsuntsumediaservices..de/?m=0

1. Unnecessary Parties It is estimated that Lagosian's spend close to 40 billion naira annually on parties alone . Most analyst have argued that most of these parties are completely unnecessary and most times do not add value to either the host or the guests. 2. Insisting on Designers, Labels, and Brands From groceries to clothing to prescription drugs, you can save money by choosing an off-brand over a fancy label. And in many cases, you won't sacrifice much in quality. Clever advertising and fancy packaging don't make brand-name products better than lesser-known brands. For example, generic drugs can cost as much as 80% less than their brand-name alternatives. 3. Shopping at the wrong store If you are Particular about price then don't just walk into any store , a Bottle of drink at MM2 will cost you almost thrice the amount you buy it at your neighborhood fast food outlet , a supermarket in victoria Island will not sell Gala at the price you get it in Oshodi 4. Paying for "ashoebi" you may Never wear again, Today, almost all weddings, burials,Birthdays and even naming ceremonies now have a uniforms which organizers use in adding color and or liquidating their guests ! This is one of the Biggest drain pipes in most low income Families who can hardly afford three square meals but are willing to mortgage their 5 months salary for a 2 hours programme! 5. Maintaining a Fleet of Cars Most people keep a fleet of car to show the world they have arrived , However they fail to realize that their cars start diminishing in value the moment they drove out of the show room . The Insurance ,licensing , and maintenance is an unnecessary expense for a vehicle you drive once in a month! 6. Multiple Girlfriends or Sugar Boys. Women are wonderful creatures, history is replete with men who died because of women only to have those women become concubines of the men who killed their lovers . A Man with a retinue of girlfriends will have to Buy Credit for Shade , change wardrobe for Ngozi and pay house rent for Fatima all these add up to keep the young mans account in perpetual red ! In the same vein women are reinventing slavery but this time on a different dimension, they have mastered the act of keeping "Bingos" whose only duty is allegiance to the Bosom of a woman old enough to be their mothers . One peculiar thing about these "bingos" is the Fact that they have taste as such keeping many "Bingos" sometimes leave a tsunami effect on the bank account ! 7. Leaving Your Money in a Low-Interest Account If you're stashing your cash in a traditional savings account earning next to nothing, you're wasting it. Make sure you're getting the best return on your money. Fix any money you don't need and earn good returns from your bank instead of paying account management fees to a bank which charges you for using your money. 8. Not Pulling the Plug on Electronics If you use a prepaid meter this is one of the reasons your credits develop wings. Electronics that have a clock or operate by remote are typical culprits. The obvious way to pull the plug on your energy vampires is to do just that -- pull the plug. Or buy a device to do it for you, such as a Smart Strip Power Strip which will stop drawing electricity when the gadgets are turned off and pay for itself within a few months. 9.Buying at the Wrong time ! This mistake could some times have devastating effect Its is dangerous to Buy a Land or House during dry season because the area might be prune to floods or the Land could be waterlogged . Building during raining season on the other hand also has some advantages 1. Cost of Building materials especially cement falls 2.Molding Blocks and water supply for concretes works could be made easier especially for those in arid areas 10. Borrower ! Pls Borrow me =N= 500,000 I have a business deal I must close tonight? Many people have lost millions and made great and wicked enemies just because they choosed to help. The wisdom here is never lend out an amount you are not willing to forget! Any business that is too good to be true is too Good to be legal! www.twitter.com/ochejoseph

1. Unnecessary Parties It is estimated that Lagosian's spend close to 40 billion naira annually on parties alone . Most analyst have argued that most of these parties are completely unnecessary and most times do not add value to either the host or the guests. The political class throw these parties to reward their thugs and get the boys high, Its sad that most low and middle income earners have have since joined the fray throwing unnecessary parties blocking roads and losing money! This mistake could some times have devastating effect. It could be dangerous to Buy a Land or House during the dry season because the area might be prune to floods or the Land could be waterlogged . The wisdom here is never lend out a money you are not willing to forget! Any business that is too good to be true is too Good to be legal! May you never loose Money In Jesus Name ! www.twitter.com/ochejoseph |

Adamawa north has produced 2 governors Nyako who is also from adamawa north has spent about 8 years including the earliar elections cancelled It is only fair to allow other regions of adamawa to govern the state |
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has disqualified the Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri, from contesting the state’s October 11 governorship election as its candidate. The PDP said Mr. Fintiri, who took over as acting governor after the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako in July, is ineligible to participate in the party’s September 6 primaries. The Chairman of the party’s screening panel, Ibrahim Mantu, who briefed reporters at the end of a screening Saturday, said Mr. Fintiri was disqualified on “moral grounds”. Mr. Mantu spoke at the national secretariat of the PDP in Abuja. Acting Governor Fintiri has faced mounting criticisms over his decision to contest the election to replace Mr. Nyako, whose removal he spearheaded. Other PDP candidates for the poll have accused him of staging a “coup” and lacking the moral right to contest. On Saturday, loyalists of the ousted governor vowed to present evidence showing Mr. Fintiri had decamped to the APC. BREAKING: Adamawa Governorship Election: PDP disqualifies Acting Gov. Unlike in the APC where every candidate from councillorship to Governorship And presidential candidates are selected in the Palour of one man , the case was different here , even the president as commander in chief allowed fairness and equity to prevail providing a level playing ground for all aspirants ! Let the best candidate emerge |
Buhari has already lost even before contesting !in a country of 170 million galant men and women ,its a man who was president over 30 years ago that the so called progressives want to foit on the members ! |
"Thirty per cent or nothing" is the demand (link is external) Nigerian youth are making ahead of the 2015 elections. As the majority (link is external) of the population, young Nigerians want (link is external) 30 per cent of elected and appointed government positions to be reserved for youth representatives. Abdullahi MaiBasira, the youth leader of the ruling People's Democratic Party, reportedly said he would support the movement for greater inclusion in the government. Other young Nigerians tweeted using #30PercentOrNothing (link is external) to express their demands http://stream.aljazeera.com/story/201408292044-0024114 30 Percent Youth Affirmation: A Valid Dream With the Refusal of our Octogenarians to relinquish some space for the younger generation in the political sphere, it has become imperative to seek for ways of making them see reasons why the younger generation should be given the opportunity to govern . The Recent pronouncement by president Goodluck Jonathan that youths should be allowed to vie for the presidency could not have come at a better time. To fully understand the demand for a 30% representation of youths in elective and appointive positions we must have a clear view of how our present elders emerged Shehu Shagari became a federal legislator at 30 and a Minister at 35, M.T Mbu became a Minister at age 25, and high commissioner to the UK at age 26. Richard Akinjide was Education Minister at age 32, Maitama Sule was oil Minister at 29, Audu Ogbe was Minister at 35,at 32 Yakubu Gowon became head of state and successfully led Nigeria through one of the most difficult times in her history and prevailed. However, since the advent of democracy in 1999 our Elders have consistently monopolized virtually all leadership positions, transforming young people into glorified thugs and tools for electioneering. This self serving policy and greed have combined to extricate intellectually sound young minds with great ideas from governance . Over the years our Elders have insisted on the fact that we lacked the requisite experience to lead, but how do we secure the experience when we are denied the opportunity to serve? they say we are leaders of tomorrow, while stubbornly refusing to allow tomorrow come. The youth might not have the financial muscle to struggle for power with the elders on equal terms , but in the words of Lupita Nyong’o Our dreams are Valid ! Abuja – The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Thursday endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan to run for a second term in office. The President of NANS, Mr Yinka Gbadebo, who led the National Executive members of the association on a courtesy visit to the First Lady, Dame Patience Faka Jonathan, expressed their support at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The delegation, which passed a vote of confidence on Jonathan, also presented a certificate of credence to Dame Jonathan for her pursuit of peace and empowerment of women and the youth. “As pragmatic and visionary Nigerians, we can see through the veil of distraction and boldly applaud the Goodluck administration for infrastructural and social transformation. “We have unflinchingly determined to put all political detractors and evil geniuses to shame in 2015 by giving Mr President the singular and total support of all Nigerian students. “As a united association, all students have been mandated to cast their votes for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to emerge victorious and continue the good works of transformation,’’ he said. Gbadebo noted that in order to actualise this, NANS had floated the Nigerian Students Transformation Vanguard to champion this cause. The NANS president commended Jonathan for his support to Nigerian students and youths by appointing six past NANS leaders in his administration. According to him, the past leaders included the Ministers of Information and Education, Mr Labaran Maku and Alhaji Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, respectively. Others are the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Mr Kingsley Kuku, and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students and Youth matters, Mr Jude Imagwe. Responding, Dame Jonathan while expressing her love and support for NANS, commended its leadership for consistent constructive engagement on national issues. “Especially at this time when some Nigerians take advantage of every situation without concern for national security. “This really shows that our youths are coming of age and that they can be relied upon in the task of nation building. “Today, our youths in the tertiary institutions are hard-working and are hopeful of a better future for this country, in spite of our challenges,’’ the first lady said. She urged them to continue in their constructive engagements on national issues and lend voices to positive moves in the interest of the nation. “Your organisation should continue to champion the cause of peace in our nation as no nation progresses in an atmosphere of insecurity. “As students, you cannot stay in school if there is no peace. Therefore do not allow anyone to use you as agents of destabilisation. “You must resist the temptation of being used by politicians as thugs during elections. “You should learn to be patriotic and not be a willing tool in the hands of those bent of sowing seeds of discord among our people,’’ she charged them. She said “as mothers, we are praying for you because we love you, you are our future, our hope. You must therefore remember the children of whom you are and face your studies squarely’’. seunmsg: Campaigning to bring back the chibok girls, reduce corruption to the bearest minimum, end the security problems in the country, create employment for the millions of unemployed youths, provide qualitative education and good health care are worthy cause that I can support. I will never join a small group of inexperienced and power hungry PDP youths who can't wait to lay their filthy hands on the treasury of this country to demand for 30% or nothing. Bring up a worthy cause and we will support you.. The 30 percent youth affirmation is not a PDP or APC action it is a drive to mobilize Sound Minds and young people with great ideas! |
ibedun: Thats the reason we are where we are.I honestly and sincerely want to Disagree with you In a Nation of 170 million people the United Nations Development Program say youth Account for about 70% 70% of 170 million = 119 million Conservatively let's put the Number of youths in Nigeria at 50 million. Its an insult to aver that these 50 million young Nigerian's Lack the capacity to a meaningful difference in the polity, as at today Even the present constitution is skewed against the youth, this the president has acknowledged and is working to adjust. Nigerian youths occupy less than 3 % of elective and appointive position 1 . You mention Nollywood and by extension Nigerian youth from T- Face to wizkid down upcoming artists the contribution of these set of young Nigerian's to our countries GDP which as at today the Largest in Africa needs not to be over emphasized. Nollywood alone contributes about 1 billion dollars annually to the Nigerian Economy why should the youths not have a say ? businessdayonline.com/2014/04/nollywood-springs-surprise-in-gdp-rebasing-leaps-to-n9trn/ 2. The Technological and IT sector which is powering our telecommunications Boom is driven to a large extent by young people www.mydailynewswatchng.com/gbenga-sesan-nigerias-first-ict-youth-ambassador/ 3. I also beg to disagree with your assertion that young people who ascended to power were "ignoramus" *at 32 Gowon took Nigeria through a difficult time in her history yet he remained un-tainted by corruption . My philosophy about leadership is simple: There is no success without successors, so it’s up to today’s leaders to develop the next generation.- Sanjay Ponnen |
