PoliticsPresident Jonathan's Reply To Dr Tunji Braithwaite' Abusive comment &(Pictures) by ochejoseph(op):
During his Birthday symposium Dr Tunji Braithwaite made mockery of the president these were his words

'' In his remarks, Tunji Braithwaite for whom the
symposium was organized to mark his 80th
birthday, noted that ”the chaos at the
fragmentation of the PDP; the largest party in
Africa or whatever nebulous name they call
themselves, resulting in the sacking of many
ministers does not come as a surprise because
the PDP is finished.”
According to him, ”the PDP is finished becomes it
has always been in a fragmentation.”
The leader of the defunct Nigeria Advance Party,
NAP, declared that the ”recklessness and simple-
mindedness and wide spread corruption will
trigger a people’s revolution.”
The octogenarian, who was tear-gassed by police
officers while leading a protest in 2011, further
added that a people’s movement was currently
being organised to fight the status quo.
Deaf not dumb
Mr Braithwaite, who was also a former
presidential aspirant, reiterated the call for a
Sovereign National Conference, SNC, which had
been relentlessly demanded by diverse groups
and organisations across the country.
Referring to President Goodluck Jonathan’s
prolonged silence on the convocation of SNC, Mr
Braithwaite said ”unfortunately, it seems we
have been conversing with a deaf, though not
necessarily dumb.”

In this Reply the president sent Him a Good will message
'' On behalf of my
family, the Government and people of the
Federal Republic of Nigeria, I extend warm
felicitations to you on the landmark occasion
of your 80th birthday anniversary.
“Over the years, you have remained
steadfastly committed to the pursuit of the
ideals of excellence and selfless service in
your personal life, your chosen legal
profession, and in your political exertions on
behalf of the masses of our nation.
“As you deservedly celebrate this glorious
day with your family, friends, protégés, and
numerous well-wishers, it is my prayer that
Almighty God grants you many more happy
years of fulfillment and distinguished
service,” the president wrote.

Obasanjo will not even try it ,Yaradua will just Ignore the Guy ,Many people I know might not even want that name mentioned around them.
Nevertheless , this president has decided to eschew the politics of Bitterness ,seeing criticisms as stepping stones and embracing all Nigerians irrespective of their political leanings or Ideology .
Many have Referred to him as Clueless, retardeen, drunk Fisher man but his achievement thus far has shown that he is the Best Man for the Job, let us all support this president in his quest to Transform Nigeria and make our Nation a better Place for us and our Children

PoliticsTukur Dissolves PDP Kano Executive by ochejoseph(op): 8:30pm On Sep 16, 2013
The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday dissolved the executive committee of the Kano State chapter of the party and constituted a caretaker committee to run its affairs.

The dissolution came shortly after the party’s leadership received Mohammed, son of the late head of state, General Sani Abacha back into the PDP.

Alhaji Alhassan Kafayos was named chairman of the caretaker committee, while Mr. Andrew Musa was appointed secretary. They were immediately sworn-in by the party’s National Legal Adviser, Mr. Victor Kwom.

The National Organising Secretary of the PDP, Abubakar Mustapha, who unveiled the committee, said other members of the committee would be appointed in Kano during the week.

Speaking at the inauguration, the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, said the tenure of the dissolved exco had expired on August 15 and that there was need for a caretaker committee.

According to him, the party observed the rules and provision of its constitution in setting up the caretaker committee.

Tukur charged the committee members to ensure that they address grievances among members in Kano, with the view to addressing them.

He charged them to ensure that the party wins the Kano governorship election in 2015.

Abacha said he joined the PDP in 2010 and left the party to join the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) the same year.

He again left the CPC in the same year 2010, owing to what he described as lack of internal democracy in the party.

PoliticsPresident Jonathan's Competency & El-rufai's Sour Grapes - By Reno Omokri by ochejoseph(op):
President Jonathan's Special Assistant on New
Media, Reno Omokri, has responded to Mallam
El Rufai's interview yesterday where he called
Mr president incompetent. Reno's response
below...
Having read
Malam Nasir Elrufai's interview in
the Saturday Sun of September 14, 2013, I
am compelled to present facts to set the
records straight in order that the general
public is not misled by the machinations of
a man who is in dire need of prayers and
perhaps psychological assistance.
Nasir Elrufai said "Nothing can make
Jonathan succeed. He is grossly
incompetent, he doesn’t listen, he doesn’t
even understand the issues. I am sorry! I
know the man more than those that are
shouting with Jonathan because when he
was my friend, none of them even knew
him. I knew Jonathan as a deputy governor
in 2002. That was when I first met him and
we have been relating. So, all these new
found Jonathan lovers should just shut up.
I know him and I know what he can do and
what he cannot do. So, please, they should
just leave me alone. Those that want jobs
can go and take jobs. I don’t want".
Now, let me start by saying
that Nasir Elrufai lied when he said this and
there is documentary evidence to prove this.
For instance, contrary to what he said in this
interview, Nasir Elrufai at a meeting with
Ambassador John Campbell in April of 2007 said
that the then Vice Presidential nominee of the
People's Democratic Party, PDP,
Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan "is clean and
honest". Going further, Elrufai told the
ambassador that "Governor Jonathan was the
only candidate that met Obasanjo’s guidelines-
honesty and Ijaw”. Unknownto Elrufai, the
ambassador kept a record of their conversation
which is now a public record in America.
Beyond that, Nasir Elrufai, who had gone into
voluntary exile under the presidency of
Malam Umaru Musa Yar'adua after he was
accused of corruption and abuse of office while
he was minister of the Federal Capital Territory,
FCT, felt safe enough to return to Nigeria as
soon as President Jonathan ascended to power.
When Elrufai returned to Nigeria, in 2010, he
visited the President at Aso Rock Presidential
Villa on May 11, 2010, and was the first major
political figure to call on President Jonathan to
contest for the 2011 presidential
election. Elrufaialso praised President Jonathan
openly.
The Holy Bible says in James 1:8 "A double
minded man is unstable in all his ways". I think
this biblical verse best
describes Nasir Elrufai. Elrufai in this his latest
interview showers encomiums on Major
General Muhammadu
Buhari saying "I think that where Nigeria is
today, only someone like Buhari, with the
experience of having run the country before,
and having run it along certain principles of
discipline, integrity and accountability, that
Nigeria needs".
However, this is what the same Elrufai had to
say aboutBuhari on October 6 2010 " Mallam El-
Rufai wishes to remind General Buhari that he
has remained perpetually unelectable because
his record as military head of state, and
afterwards, is a warning that many Nigerians
have wisely heeded. His insensitivity to
Nigeria’s diversity and his parochial focus are
already well-known. In 1984, Buhariallowed 53
suitcases belonging to his ADC’s father to enter
Nigeria unchecked at a time the country was
exchanging old currency for new. Against all
canons of legal decency, he used retroactive
laws to execute three young men for drug-
peddling after they were convicted by a military
tribunal and not regular courts of
law. Buhari was so high handed that he gave
himself and his officials immunity even from
truthful reporting. That obnoxious Decree 4,
against which truth was no defence, was used to
jail journalists and attempt to cow the media as
a whole. That tyrannical legislation shows the
essence of his intolerance. These are facts of
recent history. The story of counter-trade and
import licensing, the cornerstone
of Buhari’s stone-age economic strategy and
those whose interests it served, is a tale for
another day."
Now, how does one man go from warning the
nation aboutBuhari as a man unfit to govern
Nigeria and one who is perpetually unelectable
because of his parochial nature to saying that he
is the man that can best lead this nation?
Is it not obvious to all that there is more than
one personality in possession of the mind and
soul of this man called NasirElrufai? Can any
sane person trust the words of a man who is so
unstable?
Today, Elrufai, perhaps banking on what he
thinks is the short memory of
Nigerians is attempting to rewrite history. But it
is such a difficult task to paint over the truth
with a lie.
Nasir Elrufai wanted something from the
President which was why he visited him at the
Presidential Villa to heapunsolicited praise on
the president in 2010. When he did not get what
he wanted, he became bitter and since the days
of yore when the fox that could not get the
grapes tagged them 'sour grapes' to mask its
frustration, it has always been the habit of
persons who cannot compete on the basis of
ideas to give a dog a bad name in order to hang
it. Thus, Elrufai, having run out of ideas, has
tagged this administration as 'incompetent'. But
as they say in law, Res Ipsa Loquitor, (thefacts
speaks for themselves).
In just this past month alone, we have seen
a fulfilment of two major Jonathanian promises.
The Akanu Ibiam Airport is now officially an
International Airport as its facilities have been
upgraded to meet ICAO standards and it
received its first international commercial
flight. Also, the rail services have been revived
from Apapa Port to the North.
In these two instances, the Jonathan
administration has put money back in the
wallets of Nigerian citizens. Every time
someone flies internationally from
the Akanu Ibiam Airport, he saves sixty
thousand Naira that would have been spent
paying for connecting flights to Lagos, Port
Harcourt or Abuja. And every time you receive a
container by rail in Northern Nigeria
from Apapa Port, you would have savedperhaps
fifty thousand Naira that would have been spent
on additional cost from hauling your container
by road.
And this is just for last month. Time would not
permit me to highlight the 153 Almajiri schools
built in every state of the North to serve our
children who are engaged in the almajirinciform
of Qu'ranic education (a total of 400 are to be
delivered), or the ongoing reconstruction (not
repair) of the Lagos-Ibadan road for which 167
billion has already been reserved to prevent the
project being an abandoned project, or the
dredging of the River Niger up to Baro in Niger
state to make that port accessible to ships, or
the establishment of the Green Belt Zone along
Nigeria's Northern borders to end
desertification, or the signing of the HYPADEC
bill into law to enable the people of the Hydro
Electric producing areas benefit from their God
given resources, or the current massive multi
billion Naira efforts to save the Lake Chad from
drying up. This is besides the fact that those
states which did not have a federal university
prior to President Jonathan's ascendancy now
have at least one university, thanks to this
administration's establishment of nine new
universities.
I have identified these projects on purpose
because they were meant to be priority projects
of yore but were however left unattended until
one man called Jonathan Goodluck entered the
scene.
Why has it taken an "incompetent" President
Jonathan to grow Nigeria's economy at over 6%
per annum since he ascended to the presidency?
Why has it taken an "incompetent"
administration to get Nigeria to be promoted
from a "Low Income Nation" to a "Middle
Income Nation" by the World Bank? Again, it
took an incompetent administration to ensure
Nigeria won its first African Cup of Nations in 19
years. If previous administrations had been this
'incompetent', then Nigeria would have long
since overtaken South Africa as Africa's largest
economy, but we did not achieve this feat until
an 'incompetent' Jonathan was brought to office
by the votes of over 22 million Nigerians.
In this latest interview, Elrufai boasts that he is
a "self-made man". Even this statement is a sad
reflection of the irreligious state
of Nasir Elrufai's mind. People who say they are
"self made" should read The Book of Daniel and
see what God did to Nebuchadnezzar after he
made such a boast. Nobody is self made. Does it
make mathematical sense to believe that the
God who has numbered the hairs on your head
has no input into the opportunities that came
your way?
In a Wikileaks document, an identified
American diplomat revealed that Elrufai was
"personally known to him to be homeless"
before he got into government. Now Elrufai has
never sued the diplomat for libel or slander. But
today, this man who was known by a U.S.
diplomat to be homeless now boasts that " I was
already a self-made man when I came into
government". Since when did homelessness
amount to being "self-made"?
And Elrufai further showed his disconnect with
the realities around him when he boasted in his
interview that "there is no one who sat at the
table with us when we were making these
decisions and advancing these arguments that
have come out to say that what I wrote there
[his book, The Accidental Public Servant] is not
true". This statement is so easy to demolish. As
at the last count, the following persons have
come out very publicly on the front and back
pages of newspapers to say that
what Elrufai wrote is a lie; former Vice
President, Atiku Abubakar, former Economics
and Financial Crimes Commission
Chairman, Nuhu Ribadu, former Central Bank
Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, former Imo State
Governor, Ikedi Ohakim amongst others. In
fact, NuhuRibadu was reported in the Punch of
February the 19th 2013 to have said that "There
is a huge integrity deficiency" inElrufai's book!
Does Elrufai have such a record for truth that
we can say that his word outweighs the words of
these gentlemen?
In any case, let me conclude by saying that
Malam NasirElrufai has problems that may not
be known to the generality of Nigerians and
certainly by his current bed fellows in the
All Progressive Congress. In his book, The
Accidental Public Servant, Elrufai had terrible
and nasty things to say about those whose backs
he had already climbed on and reserved
encomiums for those whose backs he needs to
climb on. That alone speaks volumes of his
character and should alert his current associates
to the proverb that a slave who sees his fellow
buried in shallow grave should know that he
would receive the same treatment when his
time comes.

PoliticsAl-mustapaha. Seeks Concession ,Promotion To Major General by ochejoseph(op):
Major Hamza Al- Mustapha, former Chief
Security Officer, CSO, to late the Head of State,
Gen. Sani Abacha, , has written the Army
High Command, requesting for concessions on
his position in the Army.
Sources in the Army told our correspondent that
Al- Mustapha is seeking his accelerated
promotion to the rank of a Major-General and his
consequent retirement with his full benefits paid.
The argument had been that due to his “age on
rank”, he should be retired as a Major from the
Army but the former CSO is seeking a waiver on
the grounds that he was unjustly incarcerated.
For the over 14 years that Al-Mustapha spent in
prison, the Army high command had paid half of
his monthly salary to his family.
While Al-Mustapha’s case has been presented to
the Army council, the Legal Department is said to
be studying the issue with a view to coming up
with mutually acceptable recommendations.
Our correspondent learnt yesterday that Al-
Mustapha’s lawyers were waiting the Army’s
resolution of the issue with a view to either
accepting it or approaching the law courts to get
a fair deal for their client.
The Army Council is composed of the Minister of
Defence, Permanent Secretary, Chief of Defence
Staff, Chief of Army Staff and some other
administrative staff.
Director, Army Public Relations, Brig- Gen.
Ibrahim Attahiru, said that as a professional
force, the Army had already looked into Al-
Mustapha’s case and had forwarded his petition
to the Army Council.
He also confirmed that the Legal Department was
already handling the issue.
The former CSO wrote the Army requesting that
his case be treated fairly and that he should be
granted certain concessions.
Attahiru was, however, silent on the concessions
being sought by Al-Mustapha.
“The Army, as an organisation looked into this
matter and it has been presented to the Army
Council – the highest body.
“But the specific departments handling the issue
now are the Legal Department and another,
which are looking into it and will come up with
their submissions soon.
“Al-Mustapha wrote to the Army requesting for
certain concessions but the Army is still looking
at it and very soon, we shall take a position on
the matter and it would be made public,” he said.
Attahiru said the Army has nothing to hide on the
issue and that it will never deviate into partisan
politics.
The Army had in July debunked speculations that
Al-Mustapha had been promoted and decorated
with a new rank of Brigadier- General, explaining
that all administrative procedures are guided by
extant rules and regulations such as the Armed
Forces of Nigeria Harmonised Terms and
Conditions among others.
The Court of Appeal, sitting in Lagos, had on July
12 discharged and acquitted Al-Mustapha over an
alleged conspiracy and the murder of Alhaja
Kudirat Abiola, the wife of late MKO Abiola, on
June 4, 1996.
Abiola won the 1993 presidential election,
annulled by the military government of Gen.
Ibrahim Babangida.
The court had upturned a death sentence handed
down on him on January 30, 2013, by Justice
Mojisola Dada, of a Lagos High Court.
Three days after his release, the Army had
confirmed that Al-Mustapha was still in its fold
and that his case would be handled
administratively in line with the harmonised
terms and conditions of service.
Already, the Lagos State Government had
challenged the ruling before the Supreme Court.

Happy Sunday
Christianity EtcPope Francis And Poverty: Beyond Theological Semantics by ochejoseph(op): 7:00am On Sep 15, 2013
It is no longer news that the college of
Cardinals of the Catholic Church broke all
known barriers, prejudices and sentiments in
electing Pope Francis on March 13, 2013 the
leader of the world’s largest religious
organisation. It is also no longer news that
the pope is the first Jesuit pontiff of the
Catholic Church who shuns all papal protocols
including abandoning Apostolic Palace, the
papal official residence, to live in a Catholic
guest house known as Casa Santa Marta.
In the history of the Catholic Church, no Pope
had won the love of the world press and all
men irrespective of tribe, tongue and creed
through humility as exemplified by Francis on
his election day when he requested the
pilgrims gathered in the Saint Peter’s Square
to pray and bless his petrine ministry; this
singular act opened the tide in making Pope
Francis one of the most loved and famous
men on earth presently.
So it was with unrivalled joy and inestimable
love that all Catholic faithfuls and the world
welcomed the new Pope although it was
clearly agreed that the new Pope, as a
moderate conservative, shall uphold the
traditional teachings and dogma of the church
to the disappointment of many who had
wished to see a “reformist” pope who will
advance a new vista on contentious issues
like gay marriage, ordination of female
priests, contraception, abortion, euthanasia
and marriage for catholic priests.
The pope chose, as his papal name, Francis in
recognition of Saint Francis of Assisi, a man
who led his life for the poor. In a way, the
choice of the pope’s name did not come as a
surprise to many who had studied the man,
Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio and his strides
in the Catholic Archdiocese of Buenos Aires,
Argentina. It is a known fact that the pope
identified with the poor by living a simple and
indeed poor life in his capacity as the
Archbishop of Buenos Aires.
As a way of setting the tone of his papacy two
days after his election, the pope declared “…I
would like a Church which is poor and for the
poor.” Explaing further, pope Francis
submitted, “if we step outside of ourselves,
we will find poverty… This is grave. We can’t
rest easy while things are this way… We
cannot become starched Christians, too polite,
who speak of theology calmly over tea. We
have to become courageous Christians and
seek out those (poor who need help most).”
Living into the standards of his predecessors
on issues of human dignity, essentials and
poverty, Francis has officially authorized a
benchmark, if not a “marking scheme,” to be
used in the study and evaluation of his
contributions and successes to socio-
economic and spiritual life of mankind at the
end of his papacy.
Indeed, poverty has been the number one
enemy of human advancement and co-
existence from time immemorial; so the
pope’s declaration brings a heave of succour
to the world that for the first time in recent
history, a spiritual and pragmatic strategy
shall be pursued in elevating man from the
dreadful shackles of poverty.
On the occasion of the closing of the Second
Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for
Africa in St Peter’s Basilica, Rome in 2009,
Pope emeritus, Benedict XVI, attacking
absolute poverty in Africa charged, “the
(Catholic) Church dedicates herself also to
work, with every means available, so that no
African will be without daily bread.” Although
the declaration did not resonate in practical
terms pass the walls of the Saint Peter’s
Basilica where it was made by Benedict,
however the world awaits to see how pope
Francis would surpass mere “sloganeering” to
practicality in fighting endemic poverty in the
world.
Granted, Pope Francis is no Confucius who
had all the political and overbearing
government biceps to decree poverty out of
existence in Lu State of ancient China. It is
also obvious that Francis is nowhere near the
political and military might of Great Caesars-
Julius and Augustus-who chiselled the
Romanisation of the world neither can we
claim that the Pope commands the military
strategy of Alexander the Great to ram the
world leaders into his dream of poverty
eradication.
However, Pope Francis can be our modern
day Saint (Pope) Gregory the Great who led
the Church and Rome to prosperity out of
poverty and ruins after the incursions of the
Lombards. In history, we come to appreciate
that apart from openly crying for the death of
a beggar in the street of Rome and blaming
himself for not doing enough in caring for the
poor, Saint Gregory marched liturgy and
theology with action by providing food for
the poor through farming and care for the
sick. The Great Gregory charged his bishops
thus: “I have frequently charged you
(bishops)… to act as my representative … to
relieve the poor in their distress …. And if you
knew of people in poverty, you should have
pointed them out.” Defining what papacy is all
about, he said “… I hold the office of steward
to the property of the poor.”
The reality of today entails that poverty has
gone hydra-headed to the extent that the
challenges of distance, language and
population would likely make farming, as a
means of combating global poverty as
mastered by Saint Gregory, less productive if
not ineffective. Indeed, poverty has
transcended bread and butter as it was in the
time of Saint Gregory the Great but our
beloved Francis can illuminate the Saint
Gregory of our generation by holding the
papacy as the “steward to the property of the
poor.” Luckily, Canon Law 331 recognises the
Pope as the Supreme and final authority in
Catholicism; hence, he can use the goodwill,
property and wealth of the Church available
to him to achieve the much desired
eradication of absolute and relative poverty
plaguing the world today.
As a starter, Francis can use his enormous
goodwill and spiritual clout to influence
corporate and world leaders to show abiding
commitment on the issue of poverty; he can
achieve this by organising multi-lateral talks
and programs which can be localised and
implemented by governments worldwide. He
can also go a step further by encouraging peer
review mechanism which shall serve as a
gauge in determining the success of every
country in this regard. There is also a great
need on the side of advanced countries to
commit to elevating third world countries out
of absolute poverty using aids, grants, gifts,
debt relief, exchange programs, etc.
Looking inwards, the Pope can elect to prop
his clergy and religious as agents of poverty
eradication knowing fully well that once
human capital is developed and social
services provided, mankind can comfortably
say “goodbye to poverty and wretchedness.”
Thus, Catholic owned schools and hospitals
should be resuscitated and refocused for the
development of human capital and care of the
health of mankind. In the past, mission
schools were extensively used in training
people of under-developed world and there is
no verifiable reason why that commendable
practice should not be upheld and expanded
so that skills acquisition and education which
are central to the poverty question would be
sustained. Again, mission hospitals need to be
expanded, upgraded and de-Catholicised in
line with present day realities to win the war
against poverty and diseases. And priests,
nuns, and the religious are the best suited in
providing education, skills acquisition and
health care for the teeming poor. After all,
education and good health in association with
finance are the ultimate breakers of poverty
cycle.
The pope should also be in the forefront of
advancing the fight against malnutrition and
hunger in war torn countries by sending relief
materials and clothing; thus, Caritas
International, the Catholic arm of charity
must be reorganized and strengthened for
greater efficiency while gender equality
should be encouraged in all nations.
Similarly, access to water and finance are
important in poverty eradication drive; the
church can take the lead in sinking bore holes
in church premises and communities in effort
to make water available to the poor. Again,
finance serves as a breaker of the poverty
cycle so the pope can get his priests advance
micro-loans to the poor. Indeed, it is
foolhardy to stash millions of euros in Vatican
bank while people are dying of poverty daily
and we keep chorusing we want a “poor
Church for the poor.”
In all, the pope can demonstrate a practical
commitment to poverty and the poor by
encouraging nations to build and sustain good
institutions of government which fight
poverty and provide social services to the
people with emphases on forming global
alliance in fighting poverty.
The time has started ticking for Pope Francis;
the Pope is a good man in a race against time
and history. Although, his primary duty is the
spiritual advancement of man, he had
expanded his task by including the fight
against poverty to it. And he must not fail in
fighting poverty in concrete terms bearing in
mind that the poor do not want our pity but
help and charity; they want to be up and
doing, they also want their dignity eroded by
poverty restored and all these are possible
when we deliberately make them to be at par
with us in education and skills acquisition and
create a fair environment for all man to
thrive.
Pope Francis: shall it be poverty eradication
or another attempt at sloganeering as was
obtainable in before now, holy father? Only
time would tell.
