A total disaster just because of dumb and shortsighted followership. I was hoping Fashola's policy would be the beginning of the needed revolution in tertiary education. A philipino nurse walks right from a Manila hospital straight into a British hospital while the Nigerian nurse would either have to take a 3 yrs degree or a bridging course. A South African teacher also has the same advantage while our Phd would have to undergo retraining. What is the use of half baked graduates who end up doing clerical work in the banking /telecoms industry ,the job of a technician in the oil industry and non- jobs in the civil service ?Money is being pulled from other sectors in order to satisfy the short-sightedness of a small section of the society. Nigeria makes a mockery of university education. The crooked and socially useless lecturers need that high population of half baked for their handout businesses to prosper. The people I respected the most were those students who ran businesses to pay their way through school.the barber, hair dresser, kabu kabu, photocopier ,photographer etc. Those people are actually the only ones who know the true value and cost of education just like all those western nations. . I just hope the next governor of Lagos state will go in and jack up the standards. From entry requirements ,graduation requirements to the outright banning of the sale of handouts. Also ,getting foreigners to set and mark examination will be a good idea. You can be sure of thing, ;he student population will reduce drastically. That way,you will get only those who belong within the four walls of a university . Full scholarships for indigens and bright disadvantaged students only. |
There is nothing to be afraid about. The election was heavily rigged for omisore in the Ife axis as PDP tried to run the numbers in those areas. However they were overwhelmed by aregbesola support. They knew that they could not push it further as it would have been so blatant that osun would have erupted . If osun erupts, the SW erupts and the ensuing mayhem would have been too much to contain. Like I said before, any omoluabi who votes PDP need to get his head checked regardless of whether you hate the governor or not. For those who are not witty enough, jonathan has achieved what he wanted in osun.He was very eager to congratulate aregbesola .He does not care about omisore and neither does he mean well for the SW . What he did was to use osun as a trial balloon for 2015. Remember that he needs 25% of the votes from 2/3 of the states to win the presidential election . They rigged the election in osun just enough to get that magical 25 % and 2/3 in 2015 . So when the election result comes out in 2015,you can be sure that they will manufacture at least 25% of the votes from osun. |
The idea of motorcycles as a form of public transportation is not only barbaric ,but anti-civilisation. This okada thing in a city provides an easy escape for the lazy and the corrupt leader who has nothing to offer. It is also detrimental to the health of the society. Personally ,I think all SW governors should ban okada completely and promote the more healthy bicycle with adequate bike lanes and routes. Those who have no choice but to ride okada should return to their farms and states. The pathetic thing is that many of them also constitute a major security threat as they have no fixed address and sleep on the street. Many people ( most) do little or no exercise daily but would rather ride a bike for a 800m journey than walk. When they fall sick or die at 39 ,they blame their "witch" grandmother . The riders of okada also constitute a complete nuisance. |
What do you expect? You want free everything without paying taxes. You want LASU fee to be N25000 while reserving N1,000,000 for bribing your way towards a degree. Later, those degrees end up as useful as a piece of tissue paper Where is the government going to get the money to provide services? Accepted, the state has usurped some of the powers of the dysfunctional local government . But even in the absence of corruption,do people feasibly think that the government has the resources to give them free stuffs. The state makes a budget proposal but typically achieves between 60% - 80% performance . In Lagos case, this means that he government could not generate between 20% - 40 % of the tax revenues anticipated. Until that sense of entitlement is totally eradicated, I refuse to criticise the ACN governors. I keep my criticism away from this blog because, most often than not, the level of discuss can be kindergarten . While a road may be your priority, the priority for those who focus on the more important stuff(stuffs that make road building possible) of policy making. For instance,my criticism will be towards the mega city project, unionism, certain proposed projects like the 4th mainland bridge etc. |
Lagos state should go it alone. |
You should have consulted before contesting.. |
This is more realistic than the rubbish the government regularly puts out. Apart from the 10,000 terrorist which I believe is an exaggeration. |
PaulJohn1: I assume many of us who rained insult on the people of Ekiti in several threads, after the outcome of Osun's election are simply ignorant of the intimidation and clampdown on APC members and supporters by the ruling party before and during the election.Mr Man, You can continue living in denial for all we care. The reality is different. Ekiti voted for the stomach rather than the future. From the teachers who were afraid of a test to the okada riders who think fayose is a "victim". yes PDP cheated but the reality of wanting instant gratification rather than planning for the future is truly alive. Were people not queuing for a 10kg bag of rice? Take a trip to osun and see what a proud and hardworking people look like. Compare it to ekiti. You better open your eyes and see the rot around you. Where are the farmer? Are the egbirras not the ones doing the hardwork of farming. Where are independent people who contributed their money to build schools ,hospitals etc? But that would not have been painful if not for the fact that a thug known for surrounding himself with fellow thugs has been voted into power. If you cannot decifer thuggish traits in the way fayose acts and talk, then I am sorry, I cannot help you. The most annoying of the lot is the use of the term "Ekiti abroad". Can the ekiti at home stand toe to toe with those abroad for knowledge ,accomplishment, wealth and success? Where other omoluabi states are looking for ways to attract their diaspora, you lots think it is wise to hate them. It is not a must to vote APC,You should have elected somebody other than fayose if Fayemi was truly hated. Now you have turned your state into an object of mockery. Reference to ekiti and rice was actually part of aregbesola's campaign. Not to talk of the anger over the militarisation of the state. I am yoruba and I can assure the excuses do not hold any water. The flip side of it is that ACN/APC went back to the drawing board and have started involving the people in their policies . Also, they have learnt how to counter PDP's rigging machine. A president who has done nothing for 6 yrs promised to develop ekiti if only you voted for him. If that is not an insult, tell me what is? Is it a lack of understanding of basic civics that a president's party is punished for a poor national economic performance . A brief look at the national budget is enough for the discerning. Till kingdom come, jonathan will never have the money to build a kiosk in ekiti, not to talk of develop a state. My take: The voice of the Know-nothing is getting louder than those of the know-something. It is not unique to these parts . The same happens in North America (Tea party). Many of the southern USA states votes vote republican without actually knowing how the GOP policies will hurt them. It is the same thing in ekiti. They voted a man who they think talk like them ,think like them without examining the substance of the person. Elections are not beauty contests and governance is not a "likeability" parade Ekiti has set herself back with the decision. The economy of that state will remained tied to the fortunes and shocks of the nigerian oil industry . The pot will continue to get smaller and smaller until the oil runs out. |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mU9T0GN8Pxw sHow me a governor anywhere in nigeria who gives more bang for the buck. |
Abacha. Dead man walking. |
Itse sagay has always being a shining light in lawless bayelsa. it probably has more to do with the environment where he has spent most of his life. |
Mimiko is a space and time. Aregbesola makes him look almost useless with the economic output from that state. Osun state is simply more productive. |
All those nigeria Muslims and Christians should open their eyes. You are all blind . They treat you like a leper when you are sick ,yet they claim .................. |
Good job |
The deluded "slowpoke" should concentrate on scamming his willing congregation. We are tired of seeing gory videos on YouTube . |
No need to repeat it,The world knows. |
People are already probably dying in numbers elsewhere in the country without them having a clue on what is happening. |
colossus2: Rise above this dude. You are better than this.He is a government paid social media troll. Ignore him. |
Sign me up. |
after1: Ibadan ke. Dont be deceived by his handle and signature. He is not,I can see from his reply.oozing of compensatory superiority complex aka inferiority complex. |
AkinEgba: What's going for Ibadan is its huge population. Thus, it is easy out of that huge population to find a sizable medium class. Still those decrepit brown roofs that strut its landscape is a clear sign of poverty. I was born in Ibadan and raised there substantially. I know every bit of it.You may be from ibadan( I am not ) but you definitely have know clue of what makes Ibadan tick. I will only give you one assignment. Go to ojo junction, Just that junction Look at the economic activity happening there . 1 just imagine that the government was the one collecting all the money union bosses and police are pocketing . calculate the value of goods going in / out of of ojo on just one trailer. Go to the market (forgotten the name) where those welders, foundry craftsmen and technicians etc make grinding machine, shelling machine, peeling machine ,squeezing machine etc. Walk around your area and check out the different activities. These are just a tiny aspect of the sub economy . It is then you will understand . Ibadan had the most balanced economy in Nigeria. Switch off the oil and Ibadan is still rocking. |
In your dreams. The fufu you printed just to blackmail. Ain't gonna work |
Never ever Never never. Nigeria as country is dead ,and the soul of the country, corrupted. |
Good. Very civil way of going about business. |
careytommy: ghana - the aid economyGhana has a proper economy run via taxes, C Nigeria is simply a gas station . |
African "obama " till 2200 AD |
ISpiksDaTroof: Thats how u campaign in civilized countries, not handing out expired rice and money so that gullible people can sell their destiny.Thank you for educating him. Apart from that, also not by rigging, despotic or thuggish behaviour. Last minute mobilisation of grassroot voters is what it is. |
Nothing. Using obama's quote. Nigeria is simply a medium size and derelict gas station. A useless one at that. Makes nothing but wants to consume everything. The giant sore of Africa and A disgrace to the black race |
