some-girl:They drew unwanted attention and were unpopular (based on the feedback we recieved from Nairalanders) and also threatened the site. It's better to have a culture section that's actually about culture than to have what we had before, don't you think? |
onila: yoo odumchi. .can u bring back this thread here https://www.nairaland.com/1023385/stylish-nigerian-women-traditional-attireThat thread was moved out of the culture section due to the risks it posed to the site. Sorry! |

Here is the English for those who can't read Igbo: My Igbo people, I great you all. Those of you in our presence who are titled men should answer your respective titles. My relations, how are you all? I'm not a person of many words, therefore I ask you all to lend me your ears (or should I say eyes). Since this thread was opened, I have been observing how you guys are conducting this process. I've noticed that many people have expressed their desire for me to serve as the Eze, but I have been thinking this over and over because it isn't an easy task. The last thing I want to say is this: you guys should avoid chasing chickens around firewood so that you can dedicate your efforts to the task at hand. Another thing is that you should avoid fighting unnecessarily because it's a waste of time/energy and it gets us nowhere. This is the advice that I want to leave. Thank you all. |

Shall we begin? Okay, here's the first. https://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m6x5wi8y401qjh37to1_1280.jpg |
Hey Nairalanders, I decided to create an interesting yet educative contest for you guys. I'm going to post photos and you guys will have to determine which ethnic group is represented in that particular photograph. The winner will receive a prize. |
StarFlux: Bawo l'irole? (How is the evening?)A few months ago you were asking for advice on whether to study Yoruba or Edo and now it seems everything's going well. Nice progression, Starflux. |
Abagworo: All the early Igbos never claimed Jewish ancestry. Now they are trying to prove that early Jews were black. Even if they were, it does not in any way suggest that Igbos descended from Israel. Our Religion was not Judaism. You're right. To tell you the truth, I'm getting tired of these Igbo-Israelite stories. |
Rossikk: How do you know that? It's simple logic/reasoning. |
Some say the Igbos used the word IBINI as homage to the slave-raiding Oba of Benin who caused their migration to Arochukwu. And the author miraculously finds a way to squeeze Benin into this. Sigh. |
Nkem Owoh, Sam Loco (RIP), John Okafor, and Charles Awurum are my favorites. I watch their movies whenever I'm in the mood for some relaxing comedy. |

I wonder why intellectually stimulating discussions can't be maintained without the "usual". Abagworo, if you're trying to make a comparison between Itsekiri and Igbo, then maybe you should be specific about the particular Deltan Igbo communities/groups that you are trying to compare because, as far as I know, the Igbo in general have no relationship with Itsekiri. |
