Ify, ndeewo na otu i si saa mu ajuju m. |
Andre, thank you very much for that detailed explanation. |
Abagworo: The Catholic Church has ended osu among Catholics in Imo State. I heard this at a wedding in Owerri where the Arch Bishop said that any Parent who prevents the son or daughter from marrying an osu he/she is in love with will be banished from Catholic Church.Abagworo I think you might be the right person to ask this: Does the name "Nwosu" mean "child of an osu"? |
Thanks for the suggestion. |
Uka lzrel a agwula m ike. A bit over a century ago, most of the Igbo knew little to nothing about anywhere beyond their immediate localities, now, one hundred years later, the Igbo peoples are supposedly from Israel. Funny. |
Antivirus92: Odumchi nnukwu onye nkuzi! Daalu nnukwu. I wish many people could be like you.Ndeeeewo oo. |
Lol no problem. |
*Kails*: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6yYLxcPJiA&feature=youtube_gdata_player The Igbo language has a host of sounds that don't exist in English (kw, kp, nw, gb, and zh). In the intro, she pronounces the word 'Igbo' but you can also go to 1:50 to hear how 'gb' is pronounced. |
*Kails*:The proper pronunciation isn't "eebo", it's pronounced "I-gbò". The 'gb' is a diphthong and it produces a sound that is alien to English. People (especially non-Africans) sometimes fail to pronounce that 'gb' sometimes out of sheer ignorance, most times because they can't (or atleast find it hard to). |
Any ideas? I'm ready to work hand-in-hand with you guys. |
LesbianBoy: "Old age" no good o......he was a cute boy back then, see as him come resemble shaggy of scooby doo cartoon!!!I don die. ![]() |
How does this even resemble Onicha main market? This is only the riverbank. |
That was an interesting video, however [to me] this really isn't new. When it comes to ancient African civilizations, all people ever mention is the Nile axis. I, personally, would like to know more about ancient West Africa. |
somalia5: odumuchi. dont mind this fool. patanjaly: @moderator i think calling african nigga, ugly monkey, slaves, sambo, gorilla are word which are banned everywhere in the world even in football.in America u can be imprisioned.so why should nairaland be different? Thanks for making the complaint. I will keep an eye out. |
shymexx: Wtf are you on about? Don't chat shyte, just fvck off... You're on here now because I mentioned Igbo GTFOH...If you haven't noticed, I could care less about the ethnic wars/battles on here. You can say whatever you like about anybody but the truth is that it doesn't affect me in any way. All I'm telling you to do is to act responsibly and take responsibility for your action when the need arises. I hope it's not too hard. |

shymexx: At least Poland has some big ti.ts having blonde chics, something you'd never see in Anambra... Quit talking about NY, you're not from there...Learn to avoid making statements like this so as to avoid the trouble that accompanies it. When the heat gets unbearable you'll look for someone to blame. I've said my own. |
Thread moved. |
patanjaly: Pls n pls moderator ban this somali5 he had been making racist comment abusing the black race.or do u think in europe or america any reputable website will allow such remarks n the unfortunate is dat he is black wit negroid features.Could you cite a specific thread in which he made racist comments? |

afam4eva: Why can't an informative thread like this one be moved to the frontpage...@Odumchi biko, do something. No problem, but next time please use this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/1004554/promoting-culture-board-frontpage Had I not come here, I wouldn't have seen this. |
shymexx: Why did you relocate the thread??The thread was moved because it served no purpose in the Culture section. Like I said earlier, it will be cleaned in due time or should I suspend my life and abandon all of the other things that need to be dealt with because of your particular case? You need to be conscious of time; that particular thread is over 17 pages long and will require many hours to clean. I know you are well aware of the method in which we do things here. |
Ptolomeus: Hello dear friend!Exactly. Thanks, Ptolomeus. |
shymexx: That's Odumchi's fault... Other mods recommend topics for frontpage but that's something Odumchi is allergic to..People need to realize that as moderators our jobs aren't easy. We are not ominiscient, as we sometimes require the assistance of you board frequenters in order to identify and solve problems. It's obvious that the Culture section is marginalized in terms of home page representation, and as a result, Michelin and I have been doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work in order to help make things "more equal" or at least the way they are supposed to be. Threads like these have been created for the sole purpose of using you guys' opinions to improve this section and to get more of your threads on the home page: https://www.nairaland.com/986799/drop-suggestions-improving-culture-section https://www.nairaland.com/1004554/promoting-culture-board-frontpage However, if no one takes advantage of them, we can't do anything about that. Our involvement with the homepage threads are limited and if you guys don't suggest what you'd like to see on the homepage to us, then we can't be blamed when we make those decisions. |
shymexx: The culture section is the most important and educative section on the forum, but Odumchi has single-handedly destroyed this section with his nepotism and negligence... I had to get this out there because this section made me register on NL and subsequently made NL my favourite forum on the internet...Honestly, this is nothing more than misplaced banter. Based on my observations, I've concluded that you're complaining because your personality was mentioned in that thread (which has yet to be cleaned). Instead of constantly blaming us [moderators] for every woe, you can always take a minute to appreaciate the time and energy that we have invested in order to make this section a better place. Please, if you have anything to say against me or my co-mod, please bring up clear and specific examples. |
Kobojunkie: um . . . there presence in the Sahara means they crossed into it from someplace, whether from the North or the South or the East . . they were able to migrate into and out of the Sahara. That wiki page tells you some of that.I don't think you fully comprehend the enormous geographic barrier presented to sub-Saharan Africans as the Sahara desert. The desert was very difficult to cross due to its vast size and sheer inhospitality. I've also never heard of Asians (Indians/Persians/etc) crossing it. Kobojunkie: Again, this thread is not on Europeans . . but on Africans going out to explore and bring back ideas to develop their own land. As far back as 300 BC, there are records of Africans reaching Rome . . . so, it know that Africa was not as isolated as you pretend it was then and is today. Africans did go out and some of them did come back.If the Europeans didn't have knowledge of anything south of the Sahara then it's implied that the sub-Saharan peoples had little to no knowledge of anything above it. Other than the indigenous nomadic traders that roamed it, very few people crossed it not to talk of entire peoples migrating across. Today, with all our technology, it is still very difficult to cross the Sahara not to talk of thousands of years ago. Let me say it again: "black" Africa was kept out of the loop of technological advancement that spread across Eurasia due to the Sahara. Our ancestors used what they had to satisfy their needs. |
