Enough of the childish behavior, Tpia. I wouldn't like to say it again. |

PhysicsQED: https://www.nairaland.com/158215/pictures-nigeria-traditional-attireAlthough these threads are similar, that one is nearly 4 years old. This one is focused on the attire that different groups use to represent themselves, and how such attire differs from place to place. There isn't one solid Northern attire or a solid Easterm attire. Besides, similar threads can exist as long as they are spaced by a year or more. |

tpia@:I'm not interested in whether or not the cloth is from Ghana or Nigeria. That photo was taken during a Yoruba festival. You can see it for yourself here: http://www.afritopic.com/gallery/?p=123 I wouldn't like to see this thread derailed, please. Enough of this and back to the topic. |

Ileke-IdI:Take it easy. Not every rubber band has the same elasticity. If you wish to contribute, please do so. |
Ileke-IdI:This thread is for anything article of clothing worn as a political or cultural emblem of these groups. And besides, it was totally uncalled for to call me a tribalist. I'm saying it again, please relax and enjoy the photos. |
Ileke-IdI:That's exaclty why I made this thread. Please just relax and enjoy the photos. |

There are definately stereotypes that arise when dealing with cultural-politcal attire. For example, some may think that every Northerner wears an agbada, or that every Igbo man wears a red cap but this is definately not true. Let's relax and let the photos do the talking. ![]() |
@Jmaine and Ndipe Thank you very much. Sosong eti eti. I was wondering because I saw an Ekpe cloth that had the pictogram for prison as 'mkporo' and I was wondering if other Ekpe-practicing people also called it 'mkporo'. Either way, 'Ufok mkpakok' and 'mkpokobi' seem pretty close to 'mkporo'. |
Andre Uweh: Dan Orji's biggest problem is his sight. Even with his blindness, he is still a crowd puller.May God keep him strong for us music-lovers. Ill have to listen to some of those songs. And you sure do know your music. |
Fulaman198: It would be nice if they added a Fulfulde section here to make us Fulani people not feel left out. I'm sure other ethnic groups of Nigeria feel the same way. This section is open to all groups not only the Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba. Saying "Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba" is equivalent to saying "everyone". It's like "wazobia" meaning everybody in general. All groups are welcomed to post here. |
ChinenyeN: Without going in-depth, it's the viewpoint that Ngwa ancestors migrated from Umunoha in what is now Mbaitoli LGA.Oh okay, thanks. |
Andre Uweh: Eddie Quansa is classic. I enjoy it a lot. It's a pity the originator is blind now.Ah okay, I see now. And I agree that it's a pity that most of these guys are old/disabled now. Thanks. |
jmaine: Oga Odumchi . . .Idem foIdem mi osong ![]() @ Ify All I understood in what you wrote was Abasi. lol @All Does anyone know what the Ibibio/Efik word for prison is? Is it 'mkporo'? |
NRI PRIEST: Well, acknowlegdement has always been part of Igbo music; some musician like Osili nwa mama,Ali chukwuma,Oliver and warrior have at one point acknowledged ppl for their philantropy, good name or even academic achievement but they will usually say where they are from,so,Odum i suggest you listen to the songs again and you might get a hint. Moreso, who is Pastor Apiriwa and Dan Orji ? Just wandering cause me never heard of them.Hm. I think that's what it is then. Pastor Apiriwa is the author of Igbo Farback, while Dan Orji is a highlife legend who founded the Peacocks Interbational Band. Some of his songs are: Dan Njemanze http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eq2er_T15rA&feature=youtube_gdata_player Okpa aku erier http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh4XBFFJqqg&feature=youtube_gdata_player, and my favorite Eddie Kwansa http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2QpwZiqR8&feature=youtube_gdata_player. The funny thing is, I used to think musicians were very high in the pyramid of wealth until I discovered that there were people who made them who they are today. Anyway, I hope I can learn more about these people. |
