GDP is not a measure of “wealth” at all. It is a measure of income. It is a backward-looking “flow” measure that tells you the value of goods and services produced in a given period in the past. It tells you nothing about whether you can produce the same amount again next year. For that, you need a balance sheet - a measure of wealth. Companies have balance sheets as well as income statements. Nations don’t.
When Nigeria was busy selling high-priced oil to the world before the price crash, its GDP was soaring. But its wealth was falling. Oil deposits were used up, but cash was not reinvested in human, physical and technological capacities to ensure future income.
GDP can be calculated either through the expenditure approach (the sum total of what everyone in an economy spent over a particular period) or the income approach.... the total of what everyone earned. Both should produce the same result. A third method is the value added approach that is used to calculate GDP by industry.

Expenditure-based GDP produces both real and nominal values, while the calculation of income-based GDP is only carried out in nominal values. The expenditure approach is the more common one and is obtained by summing up total consumption, government spending, investment and net exports.Dunno which method was used by Canbakk.
Why were we happy when GDP was used to claim Nigeria as the biggest economy in Africa?
In the absence of any other economic indices contrary to the ones being showcased by Canbakk,we have little choice except we can disprove what they have presented for different nations of the world.

GDP deals in aggregates, GDP per capita in averages. In an age where a huge cause of social dislocation is inequality, GDP has nothing to say about distribution. Averages are misleading. Medians are better than means. A rise in average GDP could actually be retrograde, if it leaves 99% of people resentful at how the 1% is making good. From the Nigeria GDP table below are you telling me Imo state is more economically bouyant than Anambra, Kano and Ogun huh Or Osun is more economically bouyant than Anambra huh You should stop fooling yourself
GDP has always been a measure of output, not of welfare. Using current prices, it measures the value of goods and services produced for final consumption, private and public, present and future. Converting to constant prices makes it possible to calculate the growth of GDP over time or the differences between states across space.

But although GDP is not a measure of human welfare, it can be considered a component of welfare. The volume of goods and services available to the average person clearly contributes to welfare in the wider sense, though of course it is far from being the only component. So it is possible to imagine a social welfare function that has GDP as one of its components alongside health, equality, human rights, etc.

Olodo. The per capita of Ibadan is way above Anambra. The GDP of Ibadan is way above the GDP of Anambra.Stop spilling nonsense. The economical growth of any nation will always show in their GDP.

Have you ever realised that with all the GDP Ibadan has , Ibadan though possessing a Federal Airport has a dead Aviation Economy while Imo with its own built State Airport is the 4th busiest in Nigeria only less busy than Lagos , Abuja and Protharcourt Airport, Imo Airport is busier than Kaduna, Kano, Ibadan Kwara Airport, How do you measure GDP when a state like Imo has far better Hotels than all the south west states put together except Lagos , Anambra has larger numbers of Banks than all the south west states except lagos.

The Imo Airport is busier than all the Southwest Airports excluding Lagos Airport
lol
It is easier to say that Onitsha is bigger than Anambra but can you prove it.

One is that Ibadan is more than 3 times larger than Lagos in Landmass ,how does this make Ibadan better than Lagos remains to be seen. One other fact is that Lagos is growing vertically ,Eastern Cities like Onitsha , Enugu Aba are all experiencing rapid vertical growth but Ibadan katsina, kano and other Nigerian Cities are experiencing large scale horizontal growth, taken up chunks of Landmass that are being used to construct weak and dlapidated buildings that dont stand the test of time.
Lagos state is tiny but has more infrastructures than Ibadan, has bigger GDP and more developed.Lagos has slums but 10000 times more developed than Anambra.Lagos is the 5th economy in Africa.

No normal human beings talks about Anambra when talking about developed states even Imo state beats your Anambra
Igbo states are tiny but still slum infested.

Ibadan is bigger, has more infrastructures, more developed, has more GDP than any Igbo state.
Ibadan is the 4th economy in Nigeria while Anambra is 16th grin

by the way Nigeria's richest pastor, oyedepo is not Yoruba, he is from kwara in north central Nigeria.
Oliseh the Coach said it on public TV that he is not an Igbo so also are a lot of people I have seen bearing Igbo names from the Niger Delta.
They are the people giving some people impetus to say that there are no Igbos in the Niger Delta,I believe there are.
There are Igbos by ancestry and Yorubas by ancestry(Itshekiri,Olukumi etc) in Niger Delta.
If any Yoruba from Kwara says he is not Yoruba,I am sure no Yoruba will force him.
Forget about the political division, any Igbo that says he is Igbo from Niger Delta,is an Igbo and if he says he is not,he is not.Nobody should force anybody.Likewise Yoruba. Itshekiri, Olukumi and one Yoruba by ancestry people in Imo state are no more Yoruba.
Adeboye can only be Yoruba if he wants to be Yoruba.

There is one thing all Yorubas have in common that any other tribe does not have.It is called ORIKI.All Kwarans have it except the Fulani Yoruba.

Just like the Africans find It easy to make money from the lazy whites. grin

God said Esau was hardworking but Abel became his master through smart work like the Yorubas.

Those whites and Yorubas seem lazy to you because they work smart not hard like labourers.

The Yorubas worked hard cum smart in the days and were able to lend money to you lazy Igbos 2 times so that you do not die from laziness induced penury.

Yorubas just like the whites have upped their hard cum smart work to smart work.

Look at these:

Yorubaland is very much developed than Igboland. It has more schools,industries,hospitals,Houses..both old and modern, universities etc.

Ibadan city only is more developed than the entire Igboland and has more infrastructures.

Ibadan city only has 5 mega malls while the entire Igboland has only 4 malls huh

Yorubaland is more industrialised than Igboland.

Yorubas have the highest number of indigenous industries in Nigeria.

Only one Yoruba man can buy the entire Igbo billionaires and millionaires lumped together.

None of the Igbo billionaires is as rich as the Yoruba woman billionaire.....Mrs Folorunsho Alakija.Go and ask Forbes.

Ogun state only is more industrialised than Igboland.

The IGR of Ogun state only is bigger and larger than that of the entire Igboland.

Etc.

If we all do the hard work like Igbo the Esau, who will be Yoruba the Abel?
Yorubas are highly intelligent. grin

DeLinguaMan:
The Arewa Consultative Youth Forum (AYCF) says that the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his cabals have hijacked over the country.

AYCF President, Yerima Shettima stated this in an interview on Monday, while lamenting that the South-West was allegedly ruling the country by proxy.

Reacting to clamours that the South-East should produce Nigeria’s President in 2023, Shettima insisted that power must remain in the North because Tinubu and his cabals have allegedly taken over the country.

He stated that North will hold unto power in 2023 after which it may decide to handover to the South-East.

Shettima told Daily Post:

Gistok4:
Second Republic government administrator, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, has said that while the All Progressives Congress, APC, reserved the option to indicate unmistakable fascination for those trying to lead the National Assembly, the domineering stance of its pioneers was a mood killer.

Talking with Sunday Telegraph, Mohammed said the articulations of the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, on the authority struggle in the National Assembly depicted him as somebody who did not comprehend party initiative.

As indicated by Mohammed, while the gathering reserved a privilege to request the steadfastness of its individuals chose into the National Assembly, its pioneers must learn not to make imprudent articulations on the issue. He stated, “I concede that as a result of what happened last time (2015), the APC needs to ensure it hits the nail on the head this time.

In any case, it creates the impression that a similar heedlessness with which they took care of the issue last time is likewise rehashing itself. “Last time a few individuals from the gathering felt that they had something many refer to as freedom or independence of the parliament so they can do what they like.

Be that as it may, it would have comprehends they had won the decision as free competitors. It is at precisely that point that they can discuss autonomy of the governing body. “Be that as it may, Oshiomhole has persisted his mentality as a work unionist and authority of strikes into the running of an ideological group, and no one has called him to arrange. ”

On the off chance that he feels that it is just by tormenting individuals from gathering in the National Assembly that they would accomplish their objective then he should have a reevaluate. He ought to never have been the National Chairman of the decision party or some other gathering besides.
