Politics › NIDCOM Boss Hails North Carolina’s Proclamation Of Igbo Day by Ofunaofu(op): 3:49pm On Jun 24, 2025 |
The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has described the proclamation of June 14 as “Igbo Day” by North Carolina Governor Josh Stein as a reflection of the patriotic and deep cultural impact of Ndigbo in the United States.
In a statement issued by NiDCOM’s Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the NiDCOM boss described the recognition as “a welcome development.”
Governor Josh Stein officially proclaimed 14 June 2025 as Igbo Day in North Carolina, United States of America, acknowledging the deep-rooted presence and significant contributions of the Igbo community across the state.
Dabiri-Erewa said such recognition “deserves accolade” for the Governor, for acknowledging the contributions of the Igbo community both within and beyond the state.
She also commended the Igbo community for being good ambassadors of Nigeria in North Carolina.
The NiDCOM boss urged other Nigerians living abroad, as individuals or groups, to always contribute their quota to their immediate communities and to reflect the true patriotic spirit of Nigerians, regardless of their geopolitical origins.
With this proclamation, North Carolina joins other states in honouring its growing African diaspora and the diverse heritage that strengthens its society.
The declaration celebrates the rich heritage of the Igbos an ethnic group from South-Eastern Nigeria many of whom have lived in North Carolina for over 50 years.
Governor Stein noted that the Igbo community’s “dedication to civic engagement, unity and cultural preservation makes them an invaluable part of the state.”
The proclamation also highlighted the efforts of the Igbo Day Festival Organisation, which held its first celebration on 10 July 2022 to promote Igbo culture through arts, music, language, and community events, and to preserve its traditions for future generations. https://von.gov.ng/nidcom-boss-hails-north-carolinas-proclamation-of-igbo-day/

Politics › Throwback: How Tinubu Begged Abacha For Appointment - Bode George by Ofunaofu(op): 10:08am On Jun 23, 2025 |
Bode George provides fresh details on how APC leader Tinubu ‘begged’ Abacha for appointment Bode Goerge, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has insisted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader, Bola Tinubu, begged late military ruler, Sani Abacha, for appointment. In an interview with The Sun, George provided more details and said people like former Osun governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, knows about the story. His reaction follows comments by some Tinubu’s associates absolving him of allegations that he sold out to Abacha. George said: “I have nothing personal against Tinubu. I don’t hate him. We may not be in the same political party and there is no big deal about that. Nigeria’s constitution guarantees freedom of association. On this issue of Kola’s claims, I’m saying nothing but the truth. Kola Abiola was right.“Tinubu begged Abacha to make him an administrator or a state commissioner. I was in the military that time, and I was in Aso Rock with Gen. Abacha and Gen. Oladipo Diya who was then chief of general staff to Abacha. I was the principal staff officer I to Gen. Diya. I was then a commodore in the Nigerian Navy.“Tinubu came to Aso Rock to lobby for these positions but already the military had taken decisions that Abacha’s regime was going to be purely a military regime unlike that of Babangida who appointed civilians as deputy governors to military governors then.“Tinubu actually came to lobby to be made a commissioner but when he was told about the military decision, he became sad. He wasn’t happy and that was when he went to join NADECO and other pro-democracy activists. If Abacha had given him the positions he lobbied for, Tinubu would have been part of Abacha’s government.Unfortunately some of these people defending Tinubu and now attacking both myself and Kola Abiola don’t know all these that I’m revealing. I’m saying it again categorically that it was when Tinubu didn’t get appointment from the Abacha’s government that he, out of frustration and anger went to join NADECO. “I challenge Tinubu to a public debate on this. I challenge Tinubu to a public debate on any national television station either here in Nigeria or abroad. I’m even ready to face him on CNN or BBC on this issue. I’m calling out Tinubu, he should take up my challenge. Even if he said we should go to a graveyard to face one another on this issue, I’m ready to face him.“For those defending Tinubu, have they seen Tinubu coming out to speak personally or issue a personal statement on Kola Abiola’s claims and my support for Kola Abiola? I’m talking about people like former Lagos state APC chairman, Chief Henry Ajomale, former NUPENG president, Joseph Akinlaja and others who have become Tinubu’s defenders on this issue.“If these people don’t know about what transpired during the June 12 crisis, they should keep quiet instead of defending what is not defensible, I say once again, Tinubu should come and face me in a public debate on this issue if he believes I’m not saying the truth.“If Abacha had agreed with Tinubu, Tinubu would have become deputy governor to Oyinlola. Both Oyinlola and Tinubu are brothers. They are both from Osun state. Tinubu is from Iragbiji while Oyinlola is from Okuku. Nigerians should ask Oyinlola if I’m lying. Facts are facts, Tinubu can’t deny that he lobbied Abacha to be made a commissioner or deputy governor to Oyinlola. I’m putting all these together in my memoirs, which will be out very soon,” he said. https://dailypost.ng/2019/07/06/bode-george-provides-fresh-details-apc-leader-tinubu-begged-abacha-appointment/

It’s telling that, in a time of national mourning with lives and property lost in Benue, Plateau, and Kebbi, and bombs reducing lives to ash and families to grief Mr. Onanuga, the senior domestic servant, found the time not to console a grieving nation, but to exhume old grudges and rewrite the past. Ose Anenih was right to remind him that leadership requires moral clarity, not selective amnesia.
If this government’s media strategist believes his role is to litigate 30-year-old history while Nigerians die from preventable tragedies, then he’s not just missing the plot he’s become part of the problem. Silence would have served him better than this tasteless distortion of memory.

Politics › Re: Lamido: Tinubu played a prominent role opposing June 12 annulment - Onanuga by Ofunaofu: 11:29pm On Jun 22, 2025 |
Konquest: Mr. 'Bayo Onanuga is absolutely qualified to speak on this irresponsible comments from Suke Lamido and he was (and still is) very close to the now President 'Bola Tinubu so he is very qualified as an investigative journalist (and guerilla journalist) and one of the greatest pro-democracy movement activists during the terrible corrupt, military dictatorship years of the 1980s right into the 1990s when people where being assassinated and bombed to death by Abacha's killer "Strike Force" led by Maj. Al-Mustapha. 'Bayo Onanuga is one of the many men and women whose sacrifices helped to restore democracy in 1999!
You're obviously a young person who wasn't alive during the June 12 1993 elections or you were still a toddler otherwise you wouldn't say things about someone you weren't originally close to. What you wrote up there and the images you ATTACHED from Kola and 'Bode George are based on pure conjectures. I voted last in Nigeria on June 12, 1993 and I'm very familiar with the sequence of events that panned out during that period including how the then Senator 'Bola Tinubu worked very closely before, during and after the June 12, 1993 elections with Basorun M.K.O Abiola to actualize the democratic mandate.
Those screenshots you attached to your post from the year 2019 are highly defamatory and unverified stories from the two people quoted there. Just making wild statements.
How is it possible that a Senator would lobby to be a Commissioner in Lagos according to Kola? That a total downgrade in position. A lot of FALSE rumors and propaganda flew around during the aftermath of the June 12, 1993 elections and we're institigated by insidious agents of the military dictatorships who used the NTA and other propaganda news outlets and Kola got misled with false information. If you asked 'Kola the same question today if the story he granted in 2019 was verified and his source of information, he would exhonerate 'Bola Tinubu and this is the problem I have with people relying upon and bringing up past online and offline articles that are stale and discredited still being circulated online. Some FAKE stories have been pulled from the official Websites of newspapers after being found to be defamatory and FALSE with apologies offered to those offended.
'Bola Tinubu MUST ensure that these old newspaper articles do NOT remain online as very gullible readers see these things and think they are true. President 'Bola Tinubu partly has himself to blame for NOT leading the way to ensuring that these defamatory stories about him circulating around are dealt with legally and ruthlessly. You CANNOT be priding yourself as a democrat by allowing all kinds of nonsense to be published about you in this Internet and social media era when bad news travels fast and there are paid trolls out there deliberately spreading massive disinformation. Bayo Onanuga may have been part of the pro-democracy struggle so were many others, including individuals who are now openly critical of Tinubu’s political trajectory. A past record of activism, however commendable, does not grant lifetime immunity from scrutiny or legitimate criticism. Credibility is not a permanent entitlement; it is sustained through consistency, principle, and moral clarity. The same Bayo Onanuga whom you so passionately eulogize has, in recent history, made ethnically charged statements and supported rhetoric that incited violence, intimidation, and the suppression of democratic expression particularly against members of a specific ethnic group during the 2023 general elections. That is not the conduct of a democrat; it is the posture of an ethnic chauvinist leveraging past glory to shield present-day bigotry. You casually dismiss the statements attributed to Kola Abiola and Bode George as “wild” and “defamatory,” yet you present no counter-evidence only speculation and an insistence that they be erased from public discourse. If these accounts are false, then the proper response is legal action, not historical revisionism or emotional appeals cloaked as concern for truth.
Your claim that “a Senator couldn’t have lobbied for a commissioner role” misunderstands Nigerian politics, where hierarchy is often fluid and driven by survival and access, not principle. The historical record is not as neat as you'd like it to be, and inconvenient facts do not vanish simply because they challenge your preferred narrative Attempting to silence dissent or sanitize history by demanding the removal of archived reports undermines the very democratic ideals you claim to defend. If President Tinubu truly sees himself as a democrat, then he must accept open discourse, even when it is uncomfortable. Suppressing unfavorable narratives is the instinct of authoritarians, not reformers. Finally, being alive during the June 12 struggle does not grant anyone exclusive rights to its interpretation. Some of us may have been quite young, Some of us may not have experienced it firsthand, but we have studied it thoroughly through archives, interviews, records, and testimonies. Democracy is not a heritage item reserved for a select few; it is a living system that demands the engagement of every generation regardless of age. |

Obi can't withstand Tinubu on struggles for democracy. Verify records are there.
No amount of money 💰 given to you will give you strength to defend this successfully. Hypocritical Obi worked for military Juntas while Tinubu was on exile running for his life in order not to be killed by Abacha. You’re right Obi didn’t betray Abiola or secretly beg Abacha for a commissioner post in Lagos. Tinubu did and the records are there to prove it. Obi’s democratic record speaks for itself: he contested elections, reclaimed his stolen mandate through the courts, and governed without the baggage of godfatherism or looted state funds. Or did he build a conduit pipe connecting the state’s coffers to his personal pocket, siphoning and milking the people’s commonwealth for over two decades? Tinubu did and that too is well documented.

helinues: But the Agulu fraud gracefully accepted the position to be one of the board members of the port in Lagos.
While others were fighting for the restoration of democracy back to Nigeria, Peter Obi accepted appointments from Abacha as he never believed in democracy. No wonder he didn't conduct local government election for good 7 years Your infantile attempts to link Mr. Obi to anti-democratic actions are both false and deeply ironic. Mr. Obi never aligned with military regimes nor compromised democratic principles. In stark contrast, Bola Tinubu’s well-documented approach to General Abacha lobbying for a commissioner post in Lagos during the height of the democratic struggle betrayed the spirit of June 12 and the legacy of MKO Abiola. Regarding local government elections, Obi inherited a broken system riddled with legal issues. He waited for constitutional clarity and eventually conducted local government council elections before leaving office. You claim “others were fighting for democracy” of course, when others where fighting for democracy Tinubu was fighting for his own selfish interests. Obi focused on institution-building, delivering results, and savings. Tinubu, on the other hand, empowered thugs, touts, and agberos, creating a conduit that funneled public funds from the Lagos State treasury into his personal pocket, siphoning and milking the commonwealth of Lagosians for over two decades.

Politics › Anti-Tinubu Coalition: No Time For New Party Before 2027 — Babachir Lawal by Ofunaofu(op): 4:33pm On Jun 22, 2025 |
…Denies linking Amaechi, El-Rufai, Atiku, Obi to registration of new party
ABUJA – Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has ruled out the formation of a new political party ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing time constraints and the need for immediate political consolidation.
In an exclusive interview with Vanguard, Lawal, a key figure in the emerging opposition coalition, confirmed that the group has opted to merge with an existing political party rather than pursue the rigorous process of registering a new one.
“We’ve concluded that we are joining an existing party. Critical members have already resigned to make room for new leadership,” Lawal said. “We’re finalising the list of leaders for key positions such as chairman, secretary, organising secretary, and treasurer.”
According to him, the coalition initially explored two options: the registration of a new party or the merger with an existing one. However, after assessing various political platforms—some plagued with legal battles and internal crises—the coalition settled for a party deemed to have minimal legal complications and greater flexibility for accommodation.
“Some parties had court cases, leadership tussles, or were simply unwilling to make room for us. But we’ve found one that is both welcoming and viable,” he added.
Lawal also addressed confusion stemming from the activities of a splinter group led by Dr. Usman Ardo, Convener of the League of Northern Democrats, who is pushing for the registration of a new party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
He accused the group of falsely associating political heavyweights such as Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi with the ADA initiative without their consent.
“Ardo has been name-dropping without authorisation. While we can’t stop him from trying to register a party, we’re focused on what is realistic. There’s simply not enough time to register and stabilise a new party before the 2027 election campaigns begin,” Lawal insisted.
The former SGF disclosed that the coalition is made up of ex-members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former ministers from the Buhari administration, and influential political figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi—though not as official representatives of their current political parties.
He also pointed to the deepening crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), suggesting it presents an opportunity for the coalition to attract disaffected members.
“If Nyesom Wike takes over PDP, 90% of the members who oppose him won’t join APC. They’ll likely come to us, and that will significantly boost our strength,” he said.
Lawal further revealed that legal steps required for the coalition’s merger with the selected party are nearly complete. The party has already convened its National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Working Committee (NWC) meetings to accommodate the incoming members.
He emphasized that members of the coalition are joining as individuals, not under the banner of any political bloc or party.
“Many of us are former APC members. Atiku and Obi are with us, but not as official emissaries of their current platforms. This is an independent initiative aimed at providing a genuine alternative for Nigerians,” Lawal clarified.
He reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to building an inclusive and credible political platform that can offer a strong challenge in the 2027 elections.
“We believe this is the most practical and strategic path forward. Any claims to the contrary are either misinformed or deliberately misleading,” Lawal concluded. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/06/anti-tinubu-coalition-no-time-for-new-party-before-2027-ex-sgf-babachir-lawal/

Politics › Re: 2027: Why INEC Cannot Stop Anti-Tinubu Coalition Party — Amaechi Report by Ofunaofu: 2:52pm On Jun 22, 2025 |
honor4me: Let us begin by stating a basic but critical truth: democratic dissatisfaction is not in itself a diagnosis of leadership failure. Democracies, by their very nature, accommodate dissent, opposition, and coalition-building. That is a healthy sign, not a destabilizing one. What we must scrutinize is the substance and authenticity of the opposition’s claims, not merely the noise they generate.
On the Claim of Discontent with Tinubu’s Governance
Political observers may suggest that widespread discontent is driving this opposition, but such a claim demands closer inspection. Is this discontent rooted in a rigorous analysis of governance outcomes? Or is it politically convenient posturing by politicians still nursing electoral defeats?
President Tinubu inherited a structurally fragile economy, a fractured political climate, and deep institutional weaknesses. Despite these realities, the administration has made bold, albeit difficult, policy decisions—subsidy removal, FX unification, and revenue reforms—actions long delayed by past governments. These decisions are not always popular in the short term, but they are essential for long-term national recovery.
No serious student of political economy can deny that these reforms are textbook prescriptions for fiscal sustainability. One must ask: are the promoters of the ADA opposed to these reforms in substance, or simply the discomfort that change inevitably brings?
On Security and Development
It is disingenuous to frame the Tinubu administration as having “failed to address pressing national issues” without acknowledging that security challenges are historical and systemic—not manufactured in the last year.
There have been notable operational gains: kinetic operations against terrorists in the North, anti-banditry strategies in the Middle Belt, and security collaborations with state governments in the South. The administration has also initiated significant investments in police reform and intelligence coordination.
Developmentally, infrastructure continues, particularly road and rail connectivity, and there are strong pushes for industrial policy around digital economy, gas, and agriculture. If critics fail to recognize these efforts, it is not due to their absence—it is because their politics depends on pretending nothing has changed.
On the Coalition and the ADA Project
The idea of a fresh political platform is not new in Nigeria’s history. The formation of new parties often signals political rebranding, not ideological redefinition. The ADA’s manifesto, based on lofty metaphors of trees and symbols of “renewal,” lacks the rigor of a true ideological framework. There is no clear economic blueprint, no fiscal stance, no national integration policy.
Moreover, we must be honest about its architects. Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi failed to unite in 2023 not because of Tinubu, but because of ego, strategy mismatch, and an absence of trust. To believe they will now forge unity under a new umbrella without resolving those fundamental contradictions is historically naive.
The coalition is also hampered by lack of cohesion, ideological clarity, and competing ambitions. Nigerians are not blind to these realities. That is why, despite dissatisfaction with the system, there is no spontaneous mass movement behind ADA. The youth, whom they claim to target, remember the roles many coalition leaders played in previous governments. Credibility cannot be declared—it must be earned.
On the Viability of the ADA in 2027
Let us be clear: 2027 will not be won by rhetoric, nostalgia, or political experimentation. It will be decided by capacity, clarity of purpose, and the ability to deliver. President Tinubu’s administration is laying the groundwork for economic stabilization, institutional reform, and global reengagement.
The opposition may form ten parties or one mega-party—what matters is whether they present a coherent, costed, and believable path forward. So far, they have not.
And to the argument that forming a new party is a “symbolic rebirth of democracy,” I say this: democracy is not reborn through paperwork; it is reborn through performance, discipline, and continuity. Tinubu’s leadership is navigating difficult terrain, not because of incompetence, but because he’s choosing to confront what his predecessors postponed.
Conclusion
As a scholar of history and politics, I respect the constitutional right of citizens to organize, protest, and challenge power. That is democracy. But I also know, as history teaches us, that change without direction is chaos, and coalitions without principle are short-lived.
The ADA and its backers are welcome to contest the 2027 elections. But they must do so with clear policies, a clean record, and a coherent vision. Until then, President Tinubu remains the most prepared, most experienced, and most structurally oriented leader Nigeria has had in the Fourth Republic—and deserves the opportunity to finish what he has started.
Let the opposition organize. Let the president govern. And let Nigerians judge. Spoken like a scholar who’s read history but conveniently skipped the chapters on accountability and democratic renewal. Yes, coalitions without principle are short-lived but so are governments without performance. You say Tinubu is the most "structurally oriented" leader? Nigerians are enduring record inflation, worsening insecurity, mass unemployment, and crushing economic hardship. If this is structure, then chaos might actually be a breath of fresh air. Let’s be clear: Tinubu ushered in chaos — untold hardship, hunger, a free-falling naira, spiraling inflation, soaring transport costs from fuel price hikes, and skyrocketing electricity tariffs. Add to that the cruel, alphabetized electricity banding of citizens from A to Z, and the punitive hikes in call and data tariffs. These aren’t reforms they’re draconian experiments masquerading as policy and this should not be allowed to continue. The ADA doesn't need to match Tinubu’s “experience” in political deal-making and patronage. What it needs to offer is a clean break a vision that rejects a system built on recycled power and failure disguised as continuity. Let the opposition organize. Let the president be held accountable. And let Nigerians not praise scholars decide who truly deserves 2027. |

abc115: Seun, if you allow comment like this, you and the person will be held responsible for you to fetch him out. We are ready to hold him accountable for such irresponsible comment Normally, you shouldn’t be afraid of such comments unless you intend to rig the election. The message is clearly aimed at those with sinister plans. Or do you plan to work as an ad-hoc staff just to help rig the election for the APC? |

Looking at the sensational headline, the body of the article, and the source, it is pure propaganda and it's from the usual suspects, the Nation, Lagos-Ibadan propaganda newspaper at it again. |

NgeneUkwenu: Some of you are still KG students in politics. No Jupiter can remove Tinubu in 2027. The kind of figures you will see roll out for him, will cripple your subsequent participations in electoral process. That Jonathan was too dull to have allowed opposition remove him, shouldn't make you all feel you can just wake up and form one useless party to try your luck again.. It’s always amusing when blind loyalty is mistaken for political wisdom. The same arrogance on display today is exactly what brought down past so-called “untouchable” leaders. Power belongs to the people not to Jupiter or any cabal. If there were genuine performance, empathy, and good governance, there would be no fear of coalitions or the 2027 elections. But when a regime thrives on pain, propaganda, and empty promises, statistics and figures, resistance becomes not just possible, but inevitable. And let me borrow the words of Peter Obi: "When you vote, don't go.. Stay there.. Insist they count it.. IF THEY REFUSE TO COUNT IT, COUNT THE PERSON” |

The good thing about this coalition is that it has a singular purpose: to end the current wicked, draconian, and undemocratic regime headed by the D-Lord. Its purpose resonates with most if not all Nigerians regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation who have borne the brunt of the regime's harsh and oppressive policies, masquerading as economic reforms.
It will surely be a breath of fresh air to see this wicked regime come to an end in May 2027 |

Paranoia keeps the drug lord alive, he trusts no one, not even his subordinates, and controls everyone |

Can we now conclude that this country has no government just as Tinubu said during the Goodluck Jonathan regime?
