PoliticsTrump Called Nigeria ‘Disgraced’ Over Tinubu’s Certificate Scandal – Obi by Ofunaofu(op): 8:16am On Feb 17
Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and ADC chieftain, has said that US President Donald Trump called Nigeria a “disgraced country” because a certificate forger was allowed to become president.

Speaking at his official declaration for the ADC presidential ticket in Akwa Ibom on Saturday, Obi took a jab at President Bola Tinubu, referring to controversies surrounding his academic credentials.

“I went to Indonesia and asked their election organisers about the qualification to be president. They said if someone forged their qualification, they would be jailed,” Obi said. “Here, they treat it as a pre-election matter. Someone forges a certificate or doesn’t have one it’s allowed. That’s why the American president called Nigeria a ‘disgraced country.’”

The remark comes amid the ongoing Tinubu Chicago State University certificate controversy. Opposition candidate Atiku Abubakar had sought court approval to subpoena Tinubu’s academic records, citing inconsistencies in public documents. Tinubu filed to block the release of the records, and the Nigerian Supreme Court later dismissed new evidence, reaffirming his 2023 electoral victory.

Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The matter continues to stir debate over leadership credibility and electoral integrity in Nigeria.

If your entire generation is wiped out,how are you going to benefit from the resources you are talking about. Whether it's a bait or not let them come
Let me understand this correctly.

When we advocated foreign assistance because the security crisis was spiraling out of control, you said we were undermining Nigeria’s sovereignty and insulting the competence of the government.

Now you’re welcoming America?

So was sovereignty a principle, or just a shield to protect Tinubu from criticism?

You can’t call people unpatriotic yesterday for suggesting what you’re endorsing today. That’s not consistency. That’s convenience.

I really don't understand how a former governor wouldn't understand how tax works and would go about misinforming people all in the name of politics. Clearly, all these guys in ADC have nothing to offer but to whip up sentiments for cheap political gains This is 2026!
It’s 2026 and we’re still pretending that asking questions about tax law equals ‘misinforming people’? Interesting.

If a tax reform needs endless press conferences, TV interviews, Twitter post, just to explain what it really means, maybe, just maybe, the problem isn’t politics or anyone trying to score cheap political gains. The problem is with those who formulate the policy.

When a law is clear, it speaks for itself. When it’s constantly being clarified, that’s a red flag, not opposition propaganda.

And since we’re talking substance, perhaps Taiwo Oyedele should first explain why there are two different versions of the new tax law before expecting anyone to take this rebuttal seriously

I know it hit hard, sorry. But if reminding a leader of his own words feels like an attack, maybe the words were heavier than the excuses.

Nigerians are now asking him to heed that same advice, since insecurity is even worse today.

It will be better to allow Tinubu continue let him rule his 8years cause it will be dangerous to hand this country to obi or Atiku to start afresh the mistake we all made 2015 with popular Buhari shouldn't be made again we all knew how it ended at least the fuel prices is going down a little, food stuff is prices is going down also pls sit down and think before u cast that vote am not a tinubu supporter, forget the brain washing look at the workings does Anambra has a standard stadium? Does Anambra has an airport under obi? Does Anambra has means of generating money? How many men has obi raise? Saving money is not achievement putting the money in use for development that is achievement. Wisdom they say is profitable to direct.
2015 taught us not to vote based on propaganda. It also taught us not to reward performance with blind loyalty.

Let him finish 8 years is not a campaign strategy.
Elections are performance reviews, not emotional attachments.

Since when did we reduce leadership to stadiums and airports?
While Tinubu is building a coastal highway, Nigerians are facing one of the toughest economic and security crises in our history. Big projects make headlines, functioning systems make lives better.
Development is not loud projects; it’s systems that work.

If saving money isn’t an achievement, then why are we drowning in debt today? Financial discipline is governance. Stability is governance. Security is governance.

We shouldn't be talking about let him complete it.
Rather, has he earned it?

Are you a child or something like that? State functions must go on even whether Tinubu himself likes it or not. And the fact that he is attending state functions doesn't that state functions is his priority. He's not the one who will go after the criminals in all the 36 states of the federation, his duty is to give instructions and provide resources which he's doing and wait for good news of achievements.
Let's be thinking like adults who clearly understand how governance works
Calling someone a child doesn’t and will never make your argument mature.

Yes, governance involves delegation. Yes, security agencies carry out operations. We understand that.

But leadership is also about symbolism, urgency, and visible priority. When over 100 Nigerians, mostly women and children are being paraded and held captive by terrorists, the optics of a president smiling and being wowed at a fishing festival send a message, whether you like it or not.

State functions can go on. But can’t the president send a representative while he leads from the forefront of ensuring that hundreds of thousands of Nigerians held captive by Boko Haram are rescued?

No one is asking him to personally chase criminals across 36 states. We’re asking for visible, unmistakable leadership that reflects the gravity of the crisis.

Adults understand governance. They also understand priorities.

And let’s not forget, Tinubu once told Jonathan that on matters of insecurity, the bulk stops at his table and did advised him to resign at the height of insecurity during his tenure.

If resignation was sound advice then, consistency would demand it remains sound advice now.

Leadership shouldn’t be seasonal. Principles shouldn’t be selective.

You sound so smart but you're ignorant in actual sense. Some of you'll come up here blasting, but you're so empty. What economic activities was Nigeria in back then that justified dollar at #460? Or while is official and black market rate so wide?
Talking about dangote refinery, was the Government not instrumental in it's success? Do NNPC not have a stake as a shareholder? Do you listen to what Bayo ojulari(NNPC CEO) said about Dangote refinery?
The crude oil swap with Dangote in Naira, isn't that a brilliance from the government?

It's a shame on some of you, that you make every attempt to be myopic and blindfolded, even when you have an option to clear view. Nigerian youths are so ignorant about policies and governance. Some of you are just damn LAZY.
Calling people ignorant doesn’t magically turn currency depreciation into economic genius.

Asking what justified N460 to a dollar, ignores a basic economic principle: exchange rates reflect relative stability, productivity, and confidence. A currency doesn’t need to be justified at a number, it stabilizes where policy credibility, reserves, and capital flows support it. What we had then was distortion and mismanagement, yes. But what we have now is shock therapy without shock absorbers.

Also, narrowing the gap between official and parallel rates is not the same thing as strengthening a currency. If both windows converge at a much weaker level, that’s not reform success, that’s devaluation harmonized. Convergence is structural; value is economic. They are not the same metric

The crude-for-naira swap Creative, yes. But it became necessary because FX liquidity was strained after the currency float. Fixing pressure created by policy isn’t the same as avoiding the pressure in the first place.

And finally this isn’t about personalities. It’s about outcomes, high inflation rate, high food prices, Purchasing power crushed ,SMEs struggling with input costs, Savings eroded etc

If according to you, that’s ignorance, then maybe the real issue isn’t laziness, it’s accountability

Economic debate shouldn’t be emotional. It should be evidence-based and you don’t strengthen an argument by calling people names.

That's the quality of a strong leader.
I grew up learning about leadership. Leaders discuss while the followers argue

If you don't have solutions to most common issue, if you are part of those who always like to find fault in others, then you are a follower
A strong leader inspires loyalty through vision, not through conversion of critics into choir members, on your mandate chanters

If leadership is simply turning yesterday’s accusers into today’s defenders, that’s not strength, that’s absorption.

And let’s be honest: discussing is not the opposite of arguing. Real leaders answer questions. Followers and supporters like you are the ones who get angry at the questions.

PoliticsFrom Critics To Cabinet: The Tinubu Absorption Strategy by Ofunaofu(op): 6:05am On Feb 14
Tinubu does not forgive critics, he absorbs them. His reward system is simple: if you once exposed him, insulted him, or loudly questioned his past, you are more valuable inside the system than outside it. Name one top appointee or loud defender around him today who did not once attack him.

FESTUS KEYAMO publicly questioned Tinubu’s certificate and credibility, speaking as a lawyer who claimed to care about transparency. Today, he attacks anyone who raises the same questions he once popularised.

FEMI FANI-KAYODE (FFK) accused Tinubu of corruption, godfatherism, and running Lagos like a private estate. He used words like “criminal enterprise” and “state capture.” Today, he markets the same man as Nigeria’s saviour.

RENO OMOKRI built an online brand attacking Tinubu’s morality, background, certificate saga, and Chicago controversies. He mocked those who supported him. Today, the fire has gone cold, the memory has faded, and the criticism is carefully redirected elsewhere.

DANIEL BWALA repeatedly declared Tinubu unfit for office on national television, attacking his health, history, and integrity. Today, he defends the same record he once described as disqualifying.

NYESOM WIKE accused Tinubu of hijacking party structures, imposing candidates, and running a one-man political empire. Today, he calls it “political experience” and “capacity.”

JOE IGBOKWE once raised internal APC alarms about fairness, equity, and leadership decisions linked to Tinubu. Today, dissent is treason and silence is loyalty.

BAYO ONANUGA and DELE ALAKE once wrote and spoke critically about Tinubu’s political dominance and methods. Today, they are gatekeepers of his image, aggressively rewriting history.

The pattern is not coincidence.
It is containment.

Yesterday’s critics are not forgiven, they are neutralised.
Yesterday’s questions are not answered, they are buried.
Yesterday’s accusers are not corrected, they are compensated.

This is not unity.
This is not maturity.
This is not ideological growth.

It is political settlement, where exposure is rewarded, accountability is traded for access, and silence is bought with power.

And the most insulting part?

They now insult Nigerians for asking the same questions they themselves once asked.

You are the one not being sincere here. The N460 rate you are talking about was subsidized and even apart from that, the rate fluctuating within a year can be from N50-N200. Under this government, a whole year naira to dollar rate difference was less than N30. That's stability with the Naira against Dollars

Why won't we celebrate. What have we been using the dollar to do before that always cause scarcity?

Without the FG providing conducive environment for business with reforms and policies, the Dangote refinery might have still not function. What delayed his licence for years?

The scarcity and whatever temporary hardship it might have brought, Nigerians are now more conscious with their spendings compared to before.

You can see that I addressed all your concerns above without insulting or attacking, if you guys can stick to that, let's discuss. We want to clear things you have been doubting Thomas about
helinus, saying N460 to a dollar was subsidized doesn’t erase the fact that the naira moved to over N1,400 to a dollar under Tinubu. You can debate the mechanism all day, but you can’t debate arithmetic. That’s not reform, that’s devaluation aided by thoughtless policies

If Tinubu promises N300 to a dollar like he did and delivers N1,400 to a dollar, Nigerians are allowed to ask questions. That’s not distraction; that’s accountability.

Yes, exchange rate systems can be distorted. But correcting a distortion shouldn’t wipe out over 200% of currency value overnight and then be marketed as progress. Stability after collapse is not the same as strength.

On Dangote Refinery , let’s be honest. It was conceived, financed, and built privately over many years. Its existence exposes decades of policy failure in an oil-producing country importing fuel. That’s structural weakness, not a sudden policy miracle. If anything, it shows private capital succeeding despite government bottlenecks, not because of them.

Like I stated earlier, liquidity is not value. Availability is not prosperity.
You measure economic success by purchasing power, business survival, cost of living, and wage growth not by whether, Banks, BDCs have dollars in stock.

If citizens earn the same but pay triple for food, fuel, school fees, and rent, FX reforms becomes a very expensive headline.

Reform should make people stronger.
If people feel poorer, then celebration is premature.

Tony Elumelu is not being objective, he’s being political. Trying to be in the good books of Mr President

A banker of his stature knows better. Liquidity is not value. Availability is not strength. You don’t clap because dollars can now be found at N1,400 after policies helped drag the naira from N460. That’s not progress, that’s currency collapse dressed up as reform.

The naira recorded one of the fastest currency collapses in the world under Tinubu.

Infact, the naira achieved something remarkable, a record-breaking collapse.

Celebrating dollar supply after a over 200 percent currency destruction is economic gaslighting. It’s like setting a house on fire and then demanding applause for reducing the smoke.

And let’s be honest with ourselves; the biggest relief on FX demand from fuel imports came from Dangote Refinery, a private investment, not from government brilliance. Attempting to frame that as policy success is convenient amnesia.

Scarcity may have eased, but the damage is real. The purchasing power wiped out, the businesses crushed, the savings eroded, those don’t disappear because a banker chooses to praise power.

That’s not economic analysis.
