I think he will work to bring peace to a world that has been so divided since 2001 if he wins. But no one can really predict what will happen because American politics is not like Nigeria where results are written by INEC before elections even take place. |
1.What does this company do? (Do your research ahead of time!) 2. If I get the job when can I take time off for vacation? (Wait until you get the offer to mention prior commitments) 3. Can I change my schedule if I get the job? (If you need to figure out the logistics of getting to work don't mention it now, ) * 4. Did I get the job? (Don't be impatient. They'll let you know.) |
Coming from a broken does have an impact on future romance. I've noticed from personal observation that women from broken homes tend to be less trusting of their male partners. This is especially so if they view their father as the cause of the break up. This does not apply in all cases however. |
It's your turn! As the interview comes to a close, you're expected to ask your own questions. Have interview questions of your own ready to ask. You are not simply trying to get this job - you are also interviewing the employer to find out whether this company and the position will suit you. 1. How would you describe the responsibilities of the position? 2. How would you describe a typical week/day in this position? 3. Is this a new position? If not, what did the previous employee go on to do? 4. What is the company's management style? 5. Who does this position report to? If I am offered the position, can I meet him/her? 6. How many people work in this office/department? 7 How much travel is expected? 8 Is relocation a possibility? 9. What is the typical work week? Is overtime expected? 10. What are the prospects for growth and advancement? 11. How does one advance in the company? 12. Are there any examples? 13. Would you like a list of references? 14. If I am extended a job offer, how soon would you like me to start? 15. What can I tell you about my qualifications? 16. When can I expect to hear from you? 17. Are there any other questions I can answer for you? Please don't ask too many questions. If you do, the Interviewer may begin to wonder the who is actually being interviewed, you or him/her. Just select a few from among these and ask them at the appropriate time. Ability to ask the Interviewer questions proves you're self-confident. I'll post questions you dare not ask your Interviewer next time. Ask them at your own peril. |

A candidate for an accounting position said she was a "people person" not a "numbers person." 7. When applicant was offered food before the interview, he declined saying he didn’t want to line his stomach with grease before going out drinking. Hmmm. Yesterday, I listed 5 common oral interview blunders. Here are more gaffes to beware of. 6. Giving the Wrong Answer Make sure you listen to the question and take a moment to gather your thoughts before you respond. You'll knock yourself out of contention if you give the wrong answer and you can this by responding to questions like a parrot. Always pause briefly before answering any question even if you have a prepared answer. This gives the interviewer the impression that you're a thoughtful person. 7. Not Talking Enough It's really hard to communicate with someone who answers a question with a word or two. Interviewers find candidates who talk in mono or bisyllables unpleasant. This is a sure way to guarantee you're not hired. So, even though you shouldn't talk too much, you do want to be responsive and fully answer the question as best you can. 8. Fuzzy or Confusing Facts Even if you have submitted a resume when you applied for the job, you may also be asked to fill out a job application. Make sure you know the information you will need to complete an application including dates of prior employment, graduation dates, and employer contact information. And be sure to memorize these dates before the interview. I'll post more oral interview gaffes to avoid in coming days. |
I'll be posting some fresh tips on job search strategies soon. So be sure to check for the updates. |
Indeed, many of have acquired faulty speech habits that have now turned to albatross on their necks. As Morosky narrated in his own experience, "yeah" is one of them. I was guilty of the same offense at an interview at some point. Some of these habits came from imitating American pop gangsters, who by way are also struggling to speak correct formal English, and from speaking "Campus Pidgin" We can correct these communication lapses by following standard English broadcasts on TV [CNN, BBC, etc] or Radio [I'd recommend BBC and VOA as well] and by reading well written novels and magazines [my recommendations are Newsweek and Time [both foreign magazines] { Old copies are available for less N50 each}. |
The remaining six will be available by friday. So be sure to check back then. If you have any questions, send me an email. |
The following schools give financial aid to foreign students provided you can secure their admission. In order words, these schools don't care if you are poor or rich. They admit students purely on merit. In fact, they are ready to foot 100% of your bills if you're admitted. So you must get the admission first. 1. Williams College, MA 2. Berea College, KY I will list the remaining six when next I log on. |
1. Not being Prepared Not being able to answer the question "What do you know about this company?" might just end your quest for employment, at least with this employer. Background information including company history, locations, divisions, and a mission statement are available in an "About Us" section on most company web sites. Review it ahead of time, then print it out and read it over just before your interview to refresh your memory. 2. Dressing Inappropriately Dressing inappropriately can work both ways. You will certainly want to wear a suit if you are interviewing for professional position. But you are interviewing for a construction job, for instance, you may dress casually but decently. If you aren't sure what to wear, visit the organization and watch employees coming in and out of the office to see what they are wearing. Alternatively, visit their website for photos of employees at work. 3. Poor Communication Skills It's important to communicate well with everyone you meet in your search for employment. It is, however, most important to positively connect with the person who might hire you. Shake hands, make eye contact, exude confidence, engage the person you are speaking with, and you will let the interviewer know that you are an excellent candidate for this position - before you even answer an interview question. 4. Talking Too Much There is nothing much worse than interviewing someone who goes on and on and on, The interviewer really doesn't need to know your whole life story. Keep your answers succinct, to-the-point and focused and don't ramble - simply answer the question. 5. Saying Bad Things About Past Employers Your last boss was an idiot? Everyone in the company was tough to get along with? You hated your job and couldn't wait to leave? Even if it's true don't say so. It's sometimes a smaller world than you think and you don't know who your interviewer might know, including that boss who is an idiot, You also don't want the interviewer to think that you might speak that way about his or her company if you leave on terms that aren't the best. I will post more oral interview blunders when next I log on. So be sure to check the updates. Meanwhile I have an ebook I'm giving away free on the Best Answers to Tough Oral Interview Questions. Use the email address below to contact me if you need a copy. Okwi24@gmail.com |
This renewed war on corruption is good but we are getting impatient. It is not enough to indict or arraign. We should have speedy trials and convictions. Nobody of significance has been sent to prison on looting charges to date. This has emboldened ex-political officers facing charges of corruption. They feel confident that they can use looted funds to thwart justice. |

People have all sorts of phobias and I wouldn't really blame a lot of Nigerians for being so scared of flying. It obviously has a lot to do with the spate of horrible crashes our nation has experienced in recent. But my advice is to take consolation in the law of averages. Air travel is definitely safer than road travel here. Government is also doing more in the area of technical regulation of the airline operators. Hopefully, all the flying "Mammy Wagons" would be phased out and high tech airplanes bought to replace them. Just confront your fears head on by flying more frequently but if that doesn't work, consider sticking to overland travel. |
I urge doomsday forecasters to apply caution. They should not whip what may be nothing more than expected market corrections, which is a feature of all stock markets, into a crash with their mouth. The investing public should educate itself more on the fundamentals of the stock market. Everything should not be left solely in the hands of stockbrokers. Stocks are long term investment [15 years at least] and in the long term, you can't lose unless you did not buy stocks with good fundamentals. It is the get-rich-quick-penny-stock craze coupled with unethical activities on the part of some stockmarket operators that is creating the rather unusual dynamics we've witnessed in the market in recent times. Government must toughen the regulatory framework of the stockmarket to check sharp practices or else there will be a massive loss of confidence in the market. |
I'm an engineer myself and I know it is a challenging profession but what you really need to be successful in the engineering field is a passion for mathematics. It is what will see you through the academic stresses and rigors of an engineering program. As for being successful as an engineer in the real world, that depends on your people skills. It doesn't really matter if you are a man or a woman. It is your competence and ability to work with others in a team that count. |

Pls one shouldn't suspend your tithing just to pay off debts. You'll pay off your debts quicker with tithing because the heavens will be opened for you and God will rebuke the devourers and cankerworms in your behalf. |
The taste of the pudding is in the eating. But I'd suggest you do a customer satisfaction survey before deciding which ISP to sign up with. |
As if Nigerians will notice! PHCN have been on strike for years now. How else do you explain the darkness we are wallowing in. Let them go on strike. Who cares! |
I call my Mommy and she loves it. Personally, I think it makes me value her the more because I care so much for my own mother. By the way, she calls me Daddy and I love it! |
I'm against President Yaradua declaration of war against the militants. The money being spent on arming the JTF should be used instead to meet the challenges of under-development and environmental degradation in the Niger Delta. The military option worked against Biafra. It will not work in the Niger Delta. |
