FoodRe: Why Do Nigerians Hate Local Rice? by ohzee(f): 5:57pm On Jan 03, 2015
I live in Enugu and can categorically and proudly state here that for over 6 months my family and I have been eating completely destoned local Abakaliki rice. It is nutritious and tasty. It cooks fast too. In fact though there is Ebony gold the locally made polished rice, but I still prefer the unpolished variety. The first time I cooked it nobody even noticed the difference.
PoliticsRe: Buhari Could Not Solve The Economic Problems His Regime Faced - Britannica by ohzee(f): 9:56pm On Jan 02, 2015

Buhari is admired by many for his uprightness and stand against corruption. His government is revered for its ability to keep the country afloat by making progress through sheer economic ingenuity even when it rejected IMF loan and refused to adopt IMF conditionalities to devalue the Naira.[16] His government is praised for its gain in reducing inflation by refusing to devalue the nation's currency, the Nigerian Naira, curbing imports of needless goods, curtailing oil theft and using counter trade policy to barter seized illegally bunkered crude oil for needful goods like machineries, enabling it to export above its OPEC quota.[1]

The economic principles and political ideology of the Buhari military government is called Buharism by some political and economic analysts.
Please my dear, don't remind me of the economic hardship we faced in 1984 and 1985 under Buhari. I lost my father that year so ours was really terrible. If you hear the word austerity measures, essential commodities and war against indiscipline only once in your life I swear you will run away to Togo. No milk, no rice, no bread for the common man, yet the soldiers and people in power had more than enough. Hungry Nigerians flogged mercilessly and dehumanised by illiterate soldiers in the name of WAI....... sighs.....
PoliticsRe: The Bricklayer’s Breakdown Of Nigeria’s Proposed 2015 Budget by ohzee(f): 3:05pm On Dec 30, 2014
Onegai:
Excellent post.

Please everyone, remember that the present Government is filled with both APC and PDP members and we are still heading to this mess. So stop fighting over parties and start demanding from your Senators, Governors, Representatives, to perform.

As for me, I'm going to vote for the person that shows me clear plans for Health, Economic Growth, Education, Power and Sustainable Development. Not story, because this budget shows that the present Govt (filled with APC and PDP members) is still thinking of their comfort than the future of my children, your families and our parents.

As you keep fighting, please know that Oil and Gas companies are quietly retrenching staff, closing down offices and refusing to pay salaries. Please know that Banks have unsustainable growth and are refusing to hire extra new staff, preferring experienced people who they can make work 2 jobs yet pay one salary to. Even my company is slashing salaries and making their in-house retail sales teams marketers and putting new staff on contract basis. Schools are either increasing their schoolfees or demanding parents to pay up their wards' fees by January 5, 2015 (they even sent texts every 3 days demanding payment for a term no child has started). Prices of everything has increased (try buying a phone) and some importers are asking clients to pay in dollars if they want the former lower price. A lot of state govt workers like schoolteachers and doctors haven't been paid for at least 2 months.

And this budget shows that no-one in govt is planning on at least fixing infrastructure and power so we can stop importing everything, start manufacturing (not assembling) and create skilled jobs (not factory jobs where you can be substituted for a cheaper worker one day). And we need to produce Agriculture enough to crash food prices locally first, we cannot feed our country cheaply, yet we want to export on a large scale.

So 2015 is going to be bloody financially.

Neither candidate (Buhari or GEJ) has done enough to convince me to vote. I will rather use my time to worry about myself next year than waste it screaming "APC, PDP". Those guys couldn't care less about me.
What an intelligent post! I totally agree with you. In my home, I have started applying strict measures and trying to support govt in my own corner. I now buy local rice. I also will start to wear local clothes and shoes and be proud of them. I have seen APC'S road map and it had nothing about cutting govt expenses, so for now it's still the same old stuff. I also wonder where they will get all the money for those their promises. For now its every man to himself as usual. May God help us all.

Serious prayers for this country from January 1. God will show us mercy and give us good leaders from federal to legislative to state. There is no coming messiah. Depending on one man to solve our problems with a magic wand is a mirage. We all are also leaders in our homes and offices.God bless Nigeria.

PoliticsRe: Crashing Oil Prices; A Blessing In Disguise For Nigeria!!!! by ohzee(f): 4:21pm On Dec 20, 2014
dein77:
Millions of Nigerians are alarmed at the falling oil prices at the international oil market. For many, it's a sign of doom. But for me, and probably for a microscopic few, it's a blessing in disguise.

Our leaders have wasted decades of oil fortunes that would have been massively invested in infrastructures and other sectors of the economy, and now they are falling the accompanying consequences. Isaac Newton's Third Law of Motion comes to mind. It was only a matter of time before Nigeria paid for its profligacy and waste. We hardly learn, as a nation!

We have refused to think beyond oil; our mental faculties took a deadly sabbatical from the moment the blackgold was discovered in commercial quantities. Now, external forces are controlling our destiny as a people.

The falling oil prices will definitely FORCE our leaders to be more proactive in diversifying our economy. Diversifying our economy will definitely give us more options of survival. It's an economic suicide for an entire nation to depend entirely on a commodity so volatile in the International market. If ever we needed to diversify our economy , it's NOW.

The crashing oil prices will also, to a long extent, curb official corruption and impunity. Let's see if the government will seat idly and watch some few eggheads embezzle it's limited resources. A commodity that once sold at over $100 per barrel now goes for a little above $55! Infact the amount of money left to be embezzled is largely reduced.

The crashing oil prices may also force our thieves to pay more attention to our local refineries, as this may yield more profits than just selling the raw crude directly to the international at very low prices.

In every disappointment, there's some blessings. Let's take advantage of this slump and take more proactive steps. As an individual, I've taken some steps to curb financial recklessness as 2015 approaches.

He who fails to plan, has planned to fail.

Happy Xmas in advance, and a prosperous New Year to all Nairalanders.
Thanks for this post. As for me I have as an individual started campaigning that we should look inwards and use more of locally made goods. I now eat local abakaliki rice. I will start wearing local shoes and using ankara to make all my clothes. We all need to help save our country and not always blame our leaders. Also tightened my budget. No more frivolous spending.

when it was NMA on strike this page was almost on page 20 with 90% full of curses for doctors , now that its JOHESU , this discussion is still on page 1.
This is because doctors are still working and attending to patients, no matter how skeletal the services may be. Patients still consult at very low fees in the government hospitals and simply go to private labs and pharmacies to source the rest of what they need. It is not perfect but much better than nothing.

GEJ's administration.

1. Total reconstruction of the Benin Ore road was done during GEJ's tenure. Before now, travelers sleep in Orè for two to three days before getting to their destination and that was when OBJ was there.

2. Total transformation of our rail lines. Orè networks created between ABUJA, Kano and kaduna. Transformation of rail lines in LAGOS. Now the railway moves much more people than before when it was in comatose.

3. Establishing Federal Universities in all states of the Federation. OBJ did not do it.

4. Empowering the youths who have the zeal for entrepreneurship and development. We can see it in YouWIN program currently running now.

5. Feasible and accountable transformation in the agricultural sector which we all saw the launching of YEAP today in Abuja.

6. Many kilometers of road construction going on in the north.

7. Starting the Second Niger bridge. This was thrown into the thrash during OBJ tenure because our law makers in the north supported by those in the southwest never supported the bill each time it was mentioned.

8. Stability in petroleum supply. Before now, we suffered fuel scarcity every Xmas when OBJ was there. It became a ritual that every Xmas our hearts skip when you remember that you are going to travel and fuel will be scarce. It was always a scary experience.

9. Privatization of PHCN which was usually a conduit pipe, through which NIGERIANS stole money. OBJ spent more than 16 Billion dollars and when he left, the power sector was totally in ruins. It was privatized and the funds realized from the sale of this government assets were always shared amongst the state governments. Have you asked your state governor what he does with the monthly allocation he gets from ABUJA regularly?

10. Most federal roads that were abandoned by OBJ are all under construction today. LAGOS Ibadan expressway is a good example. The work is ongoing.
11. Apapa oshodi expressway is also ongoing. It was in ruins during OBJ tenure.

12. This is the most tolerant government I have ever seen in Nigeria. During OBJ's tenure, you are you to abuse him or come to media to insult him? The next morning, EFCC officials will be the ones to wake you up at 5 am with your file in their hands.

13. Total rehabilitation of all our international airports.

14. Encouraged local manufacture and assembly of vehicles in Nigeria thereby creating jobs and value. Eg, Inosson motors, Nissan, and peuogot.

15. Ajaokuta started production during GEJ's government. Right from Shagari's tenure, to Buhari, IBB, shonekan, Abdulsalam and OBJ, steel mill was in comatose. GEJ transformed it and it started working. People are employed there.

16. Building of federal university in Katsina, something GMB never saw necessary when he was head state.

17. Building of schools and encouraging northerners to send their wards to school so as to liberate them from the clutches of evil islamic cleric who brainwash them into embracing all manners of evil including suicide bombing.

18. Encourament in the entertainment industry is remarkable.

Etc more to come soon.
They call him clueless and corrupt yet in every sector, the wheels of progress continue to turn slowly but surely. I will only vote for someone who has a clear plan and focus for this great nation and not for mere propaganda by disgruntled politicians who jump from one party to the other with a messianic mentality

mama weldone ma. nt all nagging is to correct d man. a man cud hv a psycho or emotional vampire on his hands or a miserable woman who looks for any available chance to share her misery with d man. women turn into many tins after marriage. shey u get

modified.

plus if a guy is single, he won't need any woman to correct his behavior, hence nag him to death. he can cum home weneva he likes, etc
True talk. I learnt early that correcting an adult is a waste of time and that helps me not to nag. I nag my boys instead and pray that they will learn a few things.
Just like you have 'emotional vampire' women same goes for men. A lot of men would love to nag their wives for so many things, unfortunately men would rather not discuss deep issues while women prefer to talk things to death. This again, highlights the differences in both sexes like you said.
However, many people rush into marriage without understanding their partner. Forget love, understanding is KEY. Understanding begets love and not the other way round.
Lots of married men who have nagging wives will also never tell you the other side of the story. Remember there are always two sides to every story. If they could actually listen a bit they will be very surprised to find that the woman actually is telling them something. Again, the man most times doesn't want to confront issues that do not directly enhance him such as what would make him richer etc.
However its a pity that these days a lot of girls are not well brought up for marriage. Same with guys. Marriage like every good thing in life demands commitment and determination.
RomanceRe: Seven Reasons Why You Should Never Get Married - For Guys Only by ohzee(f): 8:16pm On Nov 05, 2014
Why do women nag? What really is nagging? A lot of men refuse to grow up and be responsible. They are always seeking self-gratification and enjoyment. Is there any woman who nags a man who comes home early from work? Who provides for his family? Who is calm and loving? Women are naturally always trying to nurture and correct bad behaviour. So if your wife nags you, its likely your mother also did and you entered marriage thinking you had escaped all her (your mother's) correction and attempts to make you a better person.

I am a parent to teenage boys so I know what I am talking about.

Just last week, I was contemplating getting a girl on a contract of 5 years to have 2 kids for me (1 boy and 1 girl). I have everything I want to make my life happy. Must I get married to be happy?

The wahala of staying with a nagging woman is frustrating. I have lots of friends who no longer go home at night to their families, instead they join me to bars here in Port Harcourt till 12AM. Why? Their wives nag them to almost death situation.

RomanceRe: Seven Reasons Why You Should Never Get Married - For Guys Only by ohzee(f): 8:09pm On Nov 05, 2014
I shook my head as I read this post. It just shows how selfish the world has truly become today. Life is meant to be enjoyed all the time; really? Says who? I think the media and westernisation has turned this world into something else. Young men and women alike go into marriage with strange expectations from their partners. Nobody is interested in sacrifice anymore.
**Well, ladies over to you. All the men now see us as money lovers, backstabbers etc. God really help this world. I have so much to say but I know no one will read any long post.
* By the way I have been happily married for 17 years. Just like in my career and every other thing in life, there will always be days of doubt, sadness etc but NOTHING beats the companionship (not love) and satisfaction that marriage and children bring.
killjoy:
readers discretion adviced: this is a long post. get a bowl of popcorn and your glasses. turn off the TV , you don't want to get distracted. if it took me time to write such a lengthy post, I wonder why you should complain about reading it. below are the reasons.

1. We're too different to live together: women love people and relationships, men love objects (like cars, houses, gadgets, game consoles etc), a man's lot is his career, a woman's is marriage (according to the curse after the fall of man), women are indirect, men are always direct, men want sex before they develop feelings for women, women can't have sex without emotional attachment first(unless they r who.res, even if they are who.res lolzzz), a man wants to hv sex, a woman wants to make love (I swear she doesn't even mind just cuddling), men see having dinner as a time to quench hunger, women see having dinner as time for bonding, let me continue? A married man without money feels unfulfilled, a wealthy woman without a man feels similarly, I can go on and on! But no time, my point, you need a lot of patience, tolerance, understanding, endurance, compromise etc to survive in marriage. But life is too short, stay single and be free to be urself or get married and spend the rest of your life struggling to be another person. Continue reading, this is just one of seven.

2. Love doesn't exist: if you intend to stake your future with a woman on an emotion as erratic as love, then you need to have ur head examined. Love is an emotional convulsion which, like other sicknesses, are recovered from with time. Experience has thought me that a woman's love is only skin deep, but you can accentuate it with money. Ohhhh how women react to the smell of cash. Bleep love and go make some muller.

3. You don't need a child: the world will remember you by the kids you left behind. That's a big fat lie!! You don't need a carbon copy of yourself roaming the earth after your demise to ensure your immortality. Instead, the world will remember you by the feats you surmounted! Obama will be remembered not as the father of, I don't even know his child's name and I don't give a fvck bout it! But as the first black US President. Mother Theresa never had a child, Einstein's legacy is not his kids but his discoveries. My point! You are not remembered by the kids you had but the records you set. But if you badly want a kid, adopt one, or get a baby mama and impregnate her but never, never get married just to have kids. marriage is too great a price to pay.

4. There is absolutely nothing new marriage has to offer you: just be honest with yourself. A family? You already belong to one (or do you think you just appeared out of thin air?), love? Your mother loves you like die, trust moi. A woman to manage your home? Get a maid! pay her well and she will manage your home without complications like disrespecting you, PMS, etc. Sex? Gone are the days men marry for sex ooo!!! Sex is damn cheap, you don't need marriage to enjoy it. By the way, what makes you think getting married entitles you to sex when you want it, ie, if at all?? U never jam female Hitler. Continue reading, I'm not even close to the end.

5. Marriage is expensive: a woman's problems end when she gets married (at least on financial level), while a man's problems just begin. Most ladies don't have plans of making money(some stop after getting married). for a woman, after graduating from uni, a husband is top on d list above a job ie, if a job is on the list. Guys, stay alone and worry for one. Apart from financially, marriage drains you emotionally. You have to deal with a partner suffering from PMS five days in a month for life (by the time she reaches menopause, you'd be probably dead) and when she ain't suffering PMS, its worse cos she is pregnant!! Don't forget regular mood swings, test games, among other complicated female emotional ailments. Plus wait till you get divorced before you know how much financially and emotionally expensive marriage could be. That brings us to...

6. It may end up in divorce: possible causes of divorce. She gains weight, sex with one person for years gone stale and boring, the love (or whatever dumb ass name you call it) fades, you want a new woman, (men are polygamous by nature, hard truth. Deal with it), she is no longer the woman you married, (true, women do change after marriage for many reasons, that is story for another day), you cheat on her, she cheats on you, many many more. Don't scar yourself with a painful divorce. Stay single and happy.

7. You get to focus on your dreams without distractions. Like I said earlier, a man's career is his lot (or curse). As s man if you haven't got a successful career, you will probably die unhappy and unproductive. The compromise you have to make to keep her happy will retard you from achieving your dreams to the fullest. Pleasing a woman and pursuing your dreams are mutually exclusive. don't get married.

disclaimer: its ironic when people say honesty is a virtue yet can't bear to hear (or read) the truth.

nota bene: I am not prejudiced towards women. I hate all equally.

Another link. These are political scientists and lecturers' research write-ups and not mere opinion. Infact, anyone over 40 years who is campaigning for anybody who ruled Nigeria between 1979 and 1999 is likely doing it for selfish gain. All former heads of state should not be allowed a second chance in this country. Till date, the ONLY head of state; albeit military who is celebrated in this country was late Murtala Mohammed.

Unfortunately I can't give you links and lot of materials to read because I am not a historian. However if you don't mind reading I have pasted a link to a research article which I saw online. I was in secondary school at the time and I still remember the WAI soldiers who flogged people at bus stops. Nigeria in the 80s' for those of us who know was almost a failed state. At a time, bread was a luxury and things only went from bad to worse. There was no ROAD MAP for development, no REAL economic plan. Granted, Buhari's regime was not as corrupt as others but it was CLUELESS like the others. Human rights was non-existent. Ask lecturers, doctors, lawyers and journalists at the time. I know there will be a great future for this country but we have to STOP LOOKING BACKWARDS. GEJ is not perfect but he is the ONLY head of state in a long time who has A ROAD MAP in every sector. For once we know where we are going. The corruption we all make noise about IS IN ALL OF US. We can only stamp it out COLLECTIVELY if we all agree to stop feeding from the crumbs that fall off the politicians' tables.

Sometimes I really wondered if people understand the word "CHANGE"? Who is talking about the north coming to power? Who is interested in just our president is from the south-south, and as such he must continue? Who is worried about if it either Buhari, Goodluck or Fashola? Who among the people doesn't reason that for a system to work well, you continuously need a change? Guys, just think about more of the developing countries, even with their comfort, they still agitate for a change, just a small change! & that is what makes politics even the system of government more interesting. Nigeria need a change, we all cannot be dummy. It doesn't matter if it is Labour party or APC or Accord party......all we need in fairness is a change from the ruling PDP party for a new parry to demonstrate their own agenda and idea. Situation whereby you find the same party been clinch to power even been desperate to let go off power, then it means there's a lot covered under the blanket. Let the people decides, whatsoever be the will and decision of the people should be respected. We all must agitate for a change. Changes is the only thing that make things better and interested. APC is for a change.
Change is good if its for the better. I don't believe APC and especially GMB is. The developed countries' political parties have ideologies such as Democrats and Republicans. Ours don't. what we have is North and South Muslim or Christian. GEJ is not necessarily the whole of PDP

I took time to read through the comments from others before replying. High blood sugar I.e uncontrolled diabetes can cause itching. However in my opinion carrying out lab tests before seeing a doctor is like putting the cart before the horse. My own humble advice is this; go to a teaching hospital and see a doctor who will refer you to an endocrinologist to fully evaluate her blood sugar control and possible complications. A full blood count and ESR seems to have been omitted from your tests. I wonder why? A condition called polycythemia rubra Vera can cause itching and a full blood count will reveal this easily.
Sometimes making a diagnosis is a long and tortous journey so you have to be patient. In the meantime let her use moisturing soap like Dove and cream without additives such as Vaseline while you await a definite diagnosis. I wish her speedy recovery.

Quite true. It will just be a merry-go-round! Treating the symptoms without tackling the underlying disease is as good as doing nothing. FamilyRe: Keeping In Touch With The Ex After Marriage. Bad Idea? by ohzee(f): 7:40am On Jul 04, 2014
What's the point of keeping in touch? Is it just to show that you have self control or what? It's not about whether you are faithful or not. it's about removing EVERY seed of doubt in your partner's mind. If you run into your ex, you can be polite and courteous, but to actively keep in touch with him or her is selfish and totally unnecessary in my humble opinion.

Most of those doctors will just go back to their private hosiptals and cont......

To me they are just driving traffic to their private hosiptals and milk the patients
I always laugh when I hear that doctors just want to send patients to their private clinics. You need to understand that majority of the patients who are seen in the government hospitals especially the teaching hospitals are very bad and specialized cases that cannot be managed in 95% of the private clinics in this country. Even if such clinics have the facilities they are unaffordable to a large majority. One of the problems in the health sector is quackery whereby patients out of ignorance or poverty go to the labs or chemists for consultation first and after being misdiagnosed and given all sorts of drugs they come to the tertiary hospitals expecting miracles. And wait, by the time you see them they have exhausted their meager resources. We need upgraded primary health care centres and a very functional health insurance to battle this. If not our health indices will remain appalling.
The government will simply institutionalize this quackery when we embrace these titles for other health workers which they so earnestly seek. In a country where there is no punishment, where an architect doubles as a structural engineer and buildings collapse everyday because of such.
If this enters the health sector then we are finished. I rest my case.
RomanceRe: What Sort Of Devilish Wife Did I Marry? by ohzee(f): 10:57pm On Jan 06, 2014
@op it's sad when women hate their in laws for no apparent reason. However divorce is just an easy way out and solves nothing. No matter the reason for the marriage you are already in it and can make it work. I believe your wife feels threatened by your parents because of the close bond you have. Also she believes you discuss her with them and they don't like her. Her children's love is the only thing she is sure of right now. Besides the marriage is still very young and you have a long way to go to achieve complete understanding of each other. All you need is to communicate more and don't see it as a war you must win. Also are you sure you are not too attached to them? Just take it easy and COMMUNICATE and empathize more. You will be surprised what you will find out if you listen.
BusinessRe: Konga Or Jumia: Which Is More Reliable? by ohzee(f): 12:55am On Dec 10, 2013
My experience with konga... Hhmmm. Strike one: I ordered a MacBook Air 13 inch and got an 11 inch instead with a difference of 19k. I knew I could return but I noticed they were moving their warehouse at the time so I was worried I may end up with nothing so I called and complained. My wallet was credited with the balance and I was impressed. Strike Two: I decided to use the money and buy an iPhone for myself as a birthday gift. I ordered the yellow one and noticed the 19k credit in my wallet had disappeared. I called them and got an apology and it was replaced so I made up my mind to spend the money before it vanished. I reordered for the iPhone plus some clothes. After waiting almost two weeks I called again and got plenty promises but no show. To my utmost surprise my order was cancelled. Now my money is stuck. I placed another order again for a different color cos the green I wanted is suddenly out of stock!!! I am now fasting and praying oh. Once I succeed in getting my iphone5c it's bye bye to Nigerian online shopping. My two cents.....
HealthRe: Health Workers Call Off Strike by ohzee(f): 11:14pm On Aug 28, 2013
It is a pity that this battle for supremacy in our health sector will continue to set us back. It is only in Nigeria that ALLIED health professionals have refused to stay within their job descriptions. Pharmacists who are supposed to DISPENSE, COMPOUND and ADVISE on prescriptions now prescribe drugs. Lab scientists now PRESCRIBE drugs based on a lab result. As for who is the leader it is ridiculous to argue: DOCTORS will always lead the health team and they are responsible for the patient which is why they are the ones who get sued when anything goes wrong. It is because of this RESPONSIBILITY for the patient that their training is all encompassing because you can't be in charge of what you don't know.
Nigerians love titles that's why they now want to be Consultant pharmacist, consultant nurses etc. A Consultant Physician or Surgeon is exactly what the name implies. He or she is consulted on the difficult cases and takes FULL RESPONSIBILITY that's why they are paid so much. Let us stop this senseless bickering and move our health sector forward

ypzilanti: They should just concession the railways to a private company. In a few months, it is all going to grind to another halt. We will spend naija money on it, and they will never make a profit, But bring in private guys and they will make it comfortable and profitable. Wanna bet?
I totally agree. The likes of Richard Branson and his pendolini Virgin trains will put a smile on our faces.
