UMUAHIA- PROGRAMME of activities for the burial of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu shifted to Abia State weekend with a large procession of Abians to some important places in Umuahia that have something to do with the late Ikemba.

The procession, led by top government officials and notable leaders in the state, took off from the famous Ojukwu Bunker to the War Museum, all within Umuahia metropolis and back to the bunker.

Addressing the processing on behalf of the governor, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Don Ubani, noted that Ojukwu was a great leader and that as governor of the defunct Eastern region, he fought injustice squarely.

According to him, the people, including the governments of the region are very proud of him and have planned a very befitting burial for him.

Ubani reminded the people that Ojukwu’s remains will be brought to Aba on February 28, and urged the people to troop out to accord the great a leader the last respect.

Elsewhere in far away, Zungeru, Ojukwu’s place of birth, the state governor, Theodore Orji, assured of a befitting burial for the late Igbo leader.

Governor Orji, who was in Zungeru, Niger State, to attend the the commencement of the burial rites of the Dim Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, disclosed that South-East governors had designed wonderful programmes to celebrate the exit of this great legend of all times.

Orji, who said that all the funds Abia Local 0rganising Committee needed to ensure a smooth passage of the late hero had been released, announced that Enyimba Stadium where Ojukwu’s remains will lie in state on the 28th of this month, was wearing a new look.

He added that adequate security had also been put in place for the Aba event,

Aboki, Asaba is calm and more peaceful becuase it is the sit of government(capital city)just like Awka,Owerri,Enugu,Abakaliki and Umuahia unlike Aba and Onitsha which is more prone to voilence sometimes or have you ever heard there is chaos in those capital cities in Igboland. When Aba becomes hot for Northerners they run towards Umuahia for safety because they know the city has no history of violence and yet they are in the same state.

The same is the case in Delta state,Warri is more prone to voilence than the capital Asaba.

Ijaw and the rest of Nigerdelta should shine their eyes well well now their son is the president,if they want resource control or autonomy time is now but if they are merely satisfied that our man is the presido'when power rotate and they start all over again they will surely loose sympathy from the rest of the world.People who were agitating for resource control have given up simply because their son is now president for me is dumb.(GEJ is not gonna be president for life)

Make una no worry nigerians when power go rotate time to act is now or forever be silent.because aboki go show una nwiiiiiiiiiiii if they take over power and una wan disturb his gorment embarassed, ahaa then people go ask when una son JONA be president wetin he do for una?.na my own toro be that.

A university don, Professor Siyan Oyeweso has declared that the Igbo ethnic nationality suffered more than other nationalities in the country in the hands of the Boko Haram sect. Oyeweso, a professor of History who is also a former Provost of the College of Humanities and Culture, Osun State University disclosed that, about 80 percent of Igbos had been victims of the Bako Haram attacks, since the sect launched its attack in the North.

He urged the Federal Government to find a lasting solution to the insecurity problem. He said Ojukwu represented a new era in Nigerian political history.?
Oyeweso who spoke at a colloquium on “Emeka Ojukwu: The end of an Era, said: “A critical and objective look at the causes, consequences and lessons of the Nigeria civil war showed that Ojukwu might not necessarily fit into all the negative appellations ascribed to him. The declaration of the sovereignty of the Republic of Biafra was a sectional resolve of the majority of the people of the Eastern region, rather than a personal action of Odumegwu Ojukwu.”

He insisted that the power struggles within the top military elite in Nigeria were responsible for the outbreak of the civil war and not the ambitions of Ojukwu.
“There is no time better than now, when Nigeria needs to reflect on the lesson of the civil war. The Political situation in the country now is not fundamentally different from what obtained in 1967 on the eve of the civil war. The big question is: Do we ever learn from history in Nigeria,” he submitted

Family of slain Boko Haram victim appeals to Jonathan over release of corpse
On February 7, 2012 · In News , Email0
BY ANAYO OKOLI

UMUAHIA – THE family of Mr. Chidi Ogbuji, whose 25-year-old undergraduate son, Chukwuma, was killed in Maiduguri by Boko Haram, has appealed to President Goodluck to assist in ensuring that the corpse was released for proper burial.
Chukwuma Ogbuji, a final year Sociology student of University of Maiduguri, was killed by members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, in one of their attacks in Maiduguri, the Bornu State capital.

Depressed father of the slain undergraduate, Mr. Chidi Ogbuji, while calling for proper investigation into how his son was killed, also urged the National Assembly and security agencies to assist to release his corpse to the family.

The Ogbujis made the appeal through a four-page petition addressed to Abia State Police Commissioner, Mr. Bala Hassan.

The deceased, who hailed from Umuezeukwu Nsulu, in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State, was said to have been mowed down by Boko Haram members at about 8pm on January 6, 2012, in his Mairi Ward residence, south of the University of Maiduguri campus.

Chukwuma was said to have been killed alongside his female course mate from Akwa Ibom State.

According to his father, Chukwuma had finished his final year examinations and intended to return home because of high level insecurity in Maiduguri but had to tarry awhile following assurances from various quarters, including the university authorities, state government and security agencies of adequate protection.

He was said to have stayed back to tidy up his project, and having finished with his project, Chukwuma was said to have planned to leave Maiduguri on January 7, 2012, and had spoken with his father on the phone on January 5 requesting for money to travel home.

However, a day after speaking with his father, he was, according to his landlady, gruesomely murdered by three gunmen who arrived in an unmarked vehicle at his residence and began shooting at the late student and his friend.
The gunmen were said to be chanting “Christians and Igbos will die.”

The family lawyer, Mr. J.O.J Okpechi, who wrote the petition, lamented that it was disheartening that the university authorities, state and even security agencies did not provide adequate security to the helpless students.

The question is defend themselves against who?is it the invisible boko haram who are attacking secured places like army barracks and police stations at will, are they going to be better armed than nigeria security forces in policing their homes and markets.

Well I believe those who love their lives are already home.

A 26-year old man, Ibrahim Oladele who drugged his wife, Damilola Balogun after she delivered her baby boy and sold the baby to an Onitsha-based business woman, Umeokoli Rebecca for N350,000 has been arrested and arraigned. Oladele, who hails from Ekiti state, was charged before an Ikeja magistrate’s court sitting in Ojokoro, Alagbado, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria with conspiracy and stealing.

He was charged along with two medical doctors, Dr. Okosun Timothy Olugbemi, 36, and Adesina Sultu, 33, the nurse that delivered the baby Mrs. Adetutu Abiola as well as Rebecca who bought the baby. P.M.NEWS gathered that Oladele, who lives at 19, Ilupeju Street, Alagbado, a suburb of Lagos, took his wife to a private hospital at Bariga where she was delivered of a baby boy after which the shady deal was sealed.

P.M.NEWS learnt that after Damilola was successfully delivered of her baby, the doctors, with the consent of Oladele, alleged drugged the woman and she slept off. This afforded them the opportunity to steal and sell the baby. Rebecca who resides in Onitsha, Anambra State and could not bear a child of her own was contacted to buy the baby for N350,000. She was given the certificate of birth. She took the baby to her base in Anambra State and not quite long that she was celebrating her success in getting a baby boy she was searching for years, that her joy turned to bitter experience. Damilola suspected a foul play days after she regained consciousness and the matter was reported to the police.

Rebecca was arrested in Anambra and brought to Lagos with the child. She is now facing a criminal charge of stealing the baby. Oladele was also arrested and his confession led to the arrest of the accomplices. The prosecutor, Mr. Thomas Nurudeen told the court that the suspects conspired and sold the baby which was later recovered in Anambra state. They pleaded not guilty. The presiding magistrate, Mrs. A.F. Adeeyo granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two responsible sureties. The matter has been adjourned till 4 May, 2012 for hearing.
