Crime / Re: Nigerian Immigrant Stabbed To Death In Calgary by Okenku1(m): 11:44am On Jun 06, 2017
Elixir123:
Oh my God ! This is such a sad and scary news. Only God and time can heal this wound ,where will the wife begin bikonu?
And the surge in crime rate especially to Calgary residents ,what could be at its root? Any ideas?
The government has to look into this asap and nip it in the bud.Calgary is too beautiful and rich a province to attract this kind of negative publicity.
I'm really afraid .

The surge in crime is partly due to the recession in Alberta occasioned by low oil price and job losses.
However this crime was unprovoked and the perpetrator is a First Nations guy known by police for other crimes.
Finally, criminal justice in Alberta (and Canada as a whole) can be a joke because criminals get off with light sentences and can get out even earlier after a successful parole board hearing. Or they can be send to a mental health institute and then released after a few years (remember the greyhound killer).

Na God do am for them

Wetin concern God for this matter. Nigerians like unnecessarily attributing everything to God.
They worked hard, had a cogent manifesto, pulled the masses along, delivered good speeches etc.
And by the way, read their backgrounds and check how many actively pursue any religion or believe in God.

Politics / Re: Patience Jonathan At Dickson Seriaki's Re-election Campaign (photos) by Okenku1(m): 7:42am On Sep 09, 2015
Former First lady Patience Jonathan joined her husband at the re-election campaign of Seriaki Dickson, Bayelsa State governor which held at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenogoa yesterday September 8th. Another photo after the cut...

Been seeing a lot of this 'after the cut...' on Nairaland lately. Is it the new slang?
Sounds ridiculous when used in the wrong context.

Can anyone teach us the basics of UCMAS here?

There is a special kind of abacus that is used for UCMAS, it's not something that can be taught here.

My son actually attends the UCMAS in Calgary. He currently uses the abacus and I was clueless as to how he got his answers for his homework so the teachers had to teach me the basics (called big friend and little friend). The video shows how amazing the concept is. Hope he does not need me to teach him anymore o!! Na then im go know say im papa no be superman! tongue

Just tell your significant other you ain't feeling them no more and its over.

Then do whatever you like from there onwards!

Why forfeit half when you can eat your cake and have it??
Politics / Re: 1 Million March Protest Against Power Failure (phcn) In Nigeria by Okenku1(m): 4:22am On Jul 29, 2009
chiyo:

"Hilarious solution to PCHN problem" on the front page?
why Seun?  why not just don't put it on the front page AT ALL rather than post it there to ridicule it with your biased caption?
why are you trying to sway people's opinions of the march before they actually get to read the topic? WHY?

1.I never claimed the rally to be a one end all solution to the problem. but i see it as a very positive step in achieving the solution.
2. your adjective was not invited and i'll rather not have the topic at all than have it twisted into something else.

well i guess it's your website and your monopoly. but i do not think it's fair what you did.

And we have the effrontery  to accuse leaders of nepotism and dictatorship, when in our own little kingdoms we rule like we are gods.
Does anyone think Seun (the god of nairaland) will allow criticism of him on this forum?
Instead of just posting his criticism (which was rubbish by the way), he goes ahead to manipulate Chiyo's title
I saw all the praise singers on your birthday,  don't let it get to your head man. You are as mere a mortal as we all are. Go ask Abacha.
If you close my account based on this criticism, you would have just proved me right.
Watch your back dude, pride goes before a fall.
I rest my case. Now back to that wonderful million march idea!
Family / Re: Do You Like Your Full Name Why Do Nigerians Have So Many Wierd Names by Okenku1(m): 5:35am On Jul 12, 2009
I find it weird that some girls try to make their names easy for oyibo to pronounce, eg Iphy, Aijay, Utchay. undecided
Is this psychological or what, because oyibo renaming themselves is largely unheard of.
BIG UP to Indians and Pakistanis don't give a damn about oyibo. I know a guy called Maboob, and heard of the name, sukdeep (don't hold me to the spelling).
Politics / Re: Who Are The Most Powerful People In Nigeria? by Okenku1(m): 10:55pm On May 24, 2009

Family / Re: Why Do Husbands Get Bored Of Their Wives Soon After Wedding? by Okenku1(m): 12:06am On May 24, 2009
'Most' men are naturally dogs.
No matter how perfect a wife is, there will be something minutely attractive in that other woman.
Good sex, forgiveness, financial stability, no work pressure will just delay the evil day.

Sad but true embarassed.

Sorry Astuto.

aieromon, you call 2 phones basic?
I believe most cell networks have call waiting so what's the deal with more than 1 celly?
Out of curiosity, if both phones in your front pockets ring (vibrate) at the same time, what's the sensation like in the middle grin
Politics / Re: Did Blogger Dayo Coker Receive Death Threats From Intercontinental Bank? by Okenku1(m): 3:28pm On Mar 22, 2009
I doubt the authenticity of this email.

Where is the 'From' in the detail?
How come  'To' is attached to dayo's name showing up as 'todayo'?
Why does the subject line have 'RE' if it is an initial email?
I have a gmail account, however the show details does not work like this.

Just my thought.
Career / Re: A Banker's Ordeal= Advise Needed by Okenku1(m): 4:10pm On Mar 07, 2009
Nigerian employers seem to be quite ruthless because of either a lack of strict employment laws or the delays in getting justice through the courts/ employment tribunals (if they are available).

My questions are:
You been confirmed by the bank before this accident, so how long is the probation period?
You've stated that the Head of HR 'said' your institution had no records,  so was nothing in writing/official?
When you resumed work after the accident was there any written communication?
How much longer (e.g. to complete your probation period) did you work before the second fracture on the way to your institution?

Theblessed is right about it being a big task to challenge the bank legally, and Pushkin is also right about having a Godfather.

I've not been in Nigeria for a while, but it seems these are realities on ground.

I thank God that you had a successful surgery.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Battle Of The Emirate (nov 3rd): Arsenal Vs Manchester United by Okenku1(m): 10:11pm On Nov 02, 2007
I wonder why there is a certain jealousy about Chelsea.
There is never a good debate between teams without mentioning Chelsea. angry
That's the same Viewer tendencies that Mourinho spoke about.
I hope ManUre win so that the Goners can be brought back down to earth.
But watch your backs, slowly we rise again wink
