First Best Domiciliary Home Care World, an international Nongovernmental organisation, weekend, unveiled plans to increase the life expectancy of the old and aged people in Anambra State through professional care-giving.

Arc Mike Nwafor, who disclosed this at unveiling of the programme in Awka, Anambra State, announced that the project would equally end the rituals of what he described as multiple burials every weekend for happier society.

Nwafor, who was chairman of the occasion, stated that frequent deaths in Africa especially in Nigeria and Anambra State, were caused by uncaring attitudes and assault on mental and physical health of the aged, thereby leading to their deaths, and abandoning of the children without care.

"The consequence is the unimaginable assault on the mental and physical
health of the aged, gross reduction in our life expectancy and young people that will be left without parental care at their young adult age," he maintained.

Also speaking, an international Director of the organisation and United States of America-based clinical psychologist, Prof Kanayo Ofodile explained that the programme was designed to take care of the aged people in the state, who are abandoned by their children.

According to him, "Many aged persons are homeless, abandoned, lonely, unhealthy and unkempt, hence, the establishment of this organisation. We will be going around the state to pick up and cater to abandoned aged persons. Our trained social officers will be going to give home care to those who crave such services. We will be applying spirituality, clinical formulation and reasoning to improve the lives of the aged."

Contributing, the Director, Care Services of First Best Domiciliary Home Care World, Mr Ekene Mbah, urged government and individuals to support the organisation to make the dream a reality as it would employ a new approach to taking care of the homes of the aged to cater for their needs and improve their lives.

On his part, the Traditional Ruler of Ifitedunu, Dunukofia Local Government Area, Igwe Emeka Ilouno of Ifitedunu, hailed the programme, describing it as laudable, because according to him, the elderly are dying of loneliness and depression.

Earlier, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, pledged the government unalloyed support to the project, which according to him, were parts of governor Chukwuma Soludo's project geared towards making Anambra State liveable and prosperous.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Paul University Awka, Anambra State, Professor Chinyere Stella Okunna, Wednesday, urged journalists not to rely solely on artificial intelligence for news gathering and reporting.

Okunna, who is the first female Professor of Mass Communication in Nigeria, disclosed this in a paper co-presented with a lecturer in the department of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Dr Henry Duru, at one day training workshop for journalists on reporting in a treacherous and insecure environments.

The event was organised by Ikenga Media with sponsorship of MacArthur foundation facilitated by Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ).

She argued that although artificial intelligence was good and worth leveraging on, it is not as powerful or original as human brain since it generates data from predetermined sources based on algorithm which could be biased.

The university don also charged journalists to attend training, invest time and other resources on investigation and factchecking so as to unearth accurate information before publishing or broadcasting information available to them to avoid misinforming the society.

Contributing, the Coordinator, Ikenga Media & Cultural Awareness Initiative, Dr Chido Onumah and Uzor Maxim Uzoatu, stressed that investigative journalism was hallmark for societal development, even as they enjoined journalists to uphold the ethical codes of the profession in all they do.

Earlier, the Editor-in-Chief of Ikenga online, Mr Uche Ugboajah explained that the training was aimed at building the capacity of journalists on investigation and factchecking with a view to promote good governance, while encouraging healthy living and inclusion for people living with disabilities, among others.

The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee to investigate Failure of Federal Mass Transit Schemes in Nigeria since 1999, has decried the serial mismanagement of humongous government investments in Urban Mass Transit Schemes to ameliorate transportation challenges, with resultant abysmal results.

The Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee, Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, in a statement in Abuja on Monday, August 28, 2023, warned that the Committee would get to the roots of the mismanagement of the funds that runs into billions of naira ploughed into the scheme by successive governments, without commensurate impact since 1999.

He expressed displeasure at the seeming reluctance by line ministries and agencies, in releasing documents relating to public funds expended on previous Mass Transit Schemes.

"This becomes important especially at this period of grueling multifaceted economic challenges that have heightened the sufferings of the people and lowered the living conditions of many," he said.

Hon. Ogene, who represents Ogbaru Federal Constituency in Anambra state and who is also the Labour Party caucus leader in the House, disclosed that in 2012 alone, over N16 billion was released through The Infrastructure Bank (TIB), for the purchase of busses for Public Mass Transit, from the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programe SURE-P funds, under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, from the Public Mass Transit Revolving Fund, PMTF.

"A total of 1,179 vehicles were released to the beneficiaries under the scheme, with a repayment plan covering four years. But according to TIB, many of the beneficiaries defaulted and didn't repay the loans.

"For instance, records show that as at December 2015, only two of the beneficiaries, ABC Transport PLC and The Young Shall Grow Transport Limited, liquidated their loans. Most of the beneficiaries are yet to pay as stipulated in the contractual agreements signed between them and TIB.

"Perhaps because they see the funds as usual government bonanza. But this is where they get it wrong because they can't be living large with our collective scarce resources while the people suffer as a result of poor Mass Transportation. The Committee shall make the defaulters to account for every government money they have misapplied."

The chairman of the committee also said that on October 4th 2016, the then Minister of Industry,Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah announced that the federal government had also set up a N25 billion revolving loan scheme to enable transport companies in the country purchase Mass Transit Vehicles.

Just a year ago, August 2022, the immediate past Minister of State for Transport revealed that the former President, Muhammadu Buhari, had approved the establishment of yet another Mass Transit Scheme, and a committee set up for its implementation.

In view of these developments, especially with documented abysmal results, Hon. Ogene said that his ad-hoc committee has been mandated to look into all these developments, with a view to finding out what went wrong. Who did what. And why the people are being made to suffer as a result of what may likely be individual, corporate or institutional failures.

The Committee's brief covers road transport, waterways and rail transportation in Nigeria.

Gagdi Felicitates Lalong, Hails Him As Labour Friendly Leader

Member representing Pankshin, Kanke, Kanam Federal Constituency and Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Navy, Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, has felicitated former Governor of Plateau state, Simon Lalong, on his inauguration as Minister Labour and Employment, by President Bola Tinubu, adding that his competence is never in doubt.

Gagdi, who hails from Plateau state, described the former governor as a 'round peg in a round hole', in a congratulatory Message he issued in Abuja on Monday, August 21, 2023.

President Tinubu had earlier on Monday inaugurated his cabinet in a ceremony at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said that Lalong, who was named the Minister of Labour and Employment, earned his place in the 'Renewed Hope' cabinet of President Tinubu, because of his "unrivaled record" as having the most labour friendly administration in Plateau State, when he held sway as the Governor for eight years.

Hon Gagdi said further, "As the leader of the All Progressive Congress in Plateau State, we have never doubted your competence and capacity to represent Plateau State competently in the Federal Executive Council. You have always proven your capability in every task assigned to you; the most recent being successfully leading APC's presidential campaign to a resounding victory in the 2023 elections.

A 23-year old orphan and single mother of four children, Victoria Nzube Mbachu has told the Nnobi Chief Magistrate Court that a native doctor from their Nnobi community, Chief Peter Chijioke Okaa (alias Ikonso) used her boyfriend, a Beninois, Mr. Oluwafemi Salako (alias Claude Gounou Aloukou) to deceive her to sign a document purporting that she has sold part of the family estate she inherited from her father to him.

Mbachu told Chief Magistrate Ken Okoye that she and her four children no longer have a place to live because Chief Okaa has even forcibly taken over her father's main building after demonising same, and, is currently constructing a multiple storey building there now.

Mbachu who was giving evidence under cross-examination by Chief Okaa's lawyer, C. N. Ndife in a charge bothering on malicious damage and giving false information preferred against Chief Okaa and her boyfriend ( Mr. Salako) told the Court that it was actually one United States of America -based native of their Nnobi town, Mr. Bonaventure Ezekwenna that she sold the land in dispute in the Court to at the sum of N10million.

She, however, told the Court that the piece of land she actually sold to Chief Okaa which according to her is located behind the one she sold to Mr. Ezekwenna was not up to one plot of land.

"The piece of land I sold to him (Chief Okaa) is not up to one plot of land. And it is behind the land I sold to Mr. Bonaventure.

"It is Femi(my boyfriend) who put me into this trouble I am having now because I sold my land to Mr. Bonaventure after Mr. Okaa failed to build a house for me as he promised that he will build for me and my children somewhere so that he will now take over the land we are talking about.

"When he (chief Okaa) and Femi brought a document for me to sign, I said that I will not sign the document about the land because he has not purchased a land somewhere and built a house for me as he promised, but, Femi advised me to sign the document; that he(Chief Okaa) is not someone who can cheat me. This was in September, 2020.

"I later sold the land to Mr. Bonaventure in 2021. Bonaventure is the only person that paid me for the land, the native doctor (Chief Okaa) didn't pay me any money for the land", Nzube told the Court.

She told the Court that it was Femi who forced her to relocate to Lagos after she sold the land to Bonaventure.

She also told the Court that all the four children she has belonged to her late father; that why she did not want marry any man before having the children was to make sure that the children belonged to her father since she is the only survivor in his father's lineage.

She said that she even explained the situation to Femi who fathered her last two daughters that her children belong to her father; that she wants her family lineage sustained.

The matter was adjourned to September 15, 2023 for counsel to Salako to cross-examine Mbachu.

Anambra State Disability Rights Commission (ANSDRC), Wednesday, commemorated its one year anniversary with recognitions of five disability sports medalists and certification of about twelve members trained in Information and Communication Technologies.

Speaking at the event held in Awka, the State capital, the Chairman of Anambra State Disability Rights Commission (ANSDRC), Barr. Chukwuka Ezewuzie, said the medalists made the commission and Anambra State proud by distinguishing selves in special sports nationally and internationally.

They are Ms Esther Nwadika, who had won five medals, including silver and bronze at the national festival in Javelin, shotput and discuss (2022); Mr Celestine Ezeabikwa, that won bronze in weight lifting in 2018; and Ms Nwachukwu Nneamaka, that won bronze in table tennis at the 2022 National Sports festival.

Others are Mr Okwuchukwu Ugwumadu, who got Bronze in Table tennis in 2020; Ms Iyiazi Njideka, gold medalist in Javelin shotput and discuss in an International sports event in 2022; and Ms Nkolika Nwakile, that earned bronze in Badminton in 2022.

Ezewuzie also enumerated some achievements of the commission in the past one year to include capacity building and staff development through information Communication Technologies, inculcation of the spirit of volunteering, promotion of special sports, eye and skin care training for people with albinism, and donation of mobility training for the visually impaired, provision of deaf community services to state official events, electronic-government.

The commission, it would be recalled, was constituted on December 3, 2021 by the former governor Willie Obiano, who further appointed it ten members with Barrister Chukwuka Ezewuzie as Chairman, on February 1, 2022. The commission which was among the provisions of the Anambra State Disability Rights Law (2018) passed and signed by Governor Obiano in December 18, 2018, currently comprises eight departments, 10 commissioners, 16 staff of civil servants including an accountant and six volunteers.

He specially recognised Miss Vivian Ezeonwumelu, who is currently in the United States of America having won an award from Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders.

The commission also presented certificates to about twelve members of the disability community who recently acquired information and communication skills, including their information officer, Miss Chidimma Ajemba, and urged them to explore and impact the world.


"The commission plans to take steps to enforce the accessibility requirements of the Disability Rights Law on public and private structural facilities, parking lots, building plans and permits. The commission will vigorously pursue processes to harness the revenue windows provided for in the Disability Rights Law to support the government and persons with disabilities. The commission will embark on fact-finding tours to special schools and rehabilitation centres in the State to ascertain the truth about the often reported "sorry state" of affairs in these centres," he added.

Also speaking, the Principal Secretary to former governor Obiano, Sir Willie Nwokoye, encouraged disability community to maximise their abilities and skills to become sufficient and employers of labour.

On her part, the former Nigeria Ambassador to South Africa, Mrs
Uche Ajuluchukwu, called for employment of computer literate members of the community in ICT, data and record management units, even as he urged governor Chukwuma Soludo to release fund to ANSDRC for optimal function of the commission.

According to her, it was painful that the governor never budgeted or disburse funds to the ASDRC since inception of his administration despite their contributions to his election in 2021 and capacities to help engender good governance and development of Anambra State.

"I am calling on governor Chukwuma Soludo to show a sense of inclusion in this administration and policy of continuity. It is not good that his predecessor (Obiano) made Anambra State proud by domesticating the disability rights law which is in the United Nations charter. He should remember that we voted for him. It is not good that he abandoned them because no one knows tomorrow.

" It is not fair that no single naira was budgeted or release to the commission since governor Soludo took over. Why did Anambra State House of Assembly passed the 2023 budget without including provisions for funding of the State Disability Rights Commission? I am reminding them and Mr governor to do something about the PWDs and ANSDRC now incase they forgot.

"Our members are focused in what they are doing. They are people you can trust. The PWDs who have undergone computer training should be recruited as computer and data officers. They are people that cannot be bribed to alter data once is genuinely computed. They stand for truth," she added.

Responding, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Ify Obinabo, noted that the ministry and state are ready to work and ensure that the rights of the disability community are been protected, adding that more of them would be trained and empowered accordingly.

A 23-years old orphan and single-mother of four children, Ms Victoria Nzube Mbachu has narrated at the Nnobi Chief Magistrate Court, Idemili-South local government area of Anambra state how her brick-layer Beninois boyfriend, Mr. Oluwafemi Salako( alias Claude Gounou Aloukou) escaped with her and her four children to Lagos after luring her to mortgage her landed property she inherited from her father.

Nzube, a native of Nnobi narrated that she lost her father, Mr. Ifeanyi Mbachu at age of seven, and, that her mother had also died.

She also told Chief Magistrate Ken Okoye that all her blood relations, including all her father's siblings have died; adding that she is the only surviving child of his father.

She said that she had her first child aged four years after she was raped, adding that she later had another child from a man who promised to marry her but later abandoned her.

Nzube said that she was later to get hooked to Salako sometime in 2018, and, because she wanted a man who would give her protection from attacks and intimidation she was suffering from people who were trying to take over her father's estate.

She said that she could not find any male person in her Nnobi community she could trust, and, that Salako told her that he is a Yoruba native from Ogun state.

Nzube, however, narrated in the Court that her ordeal started in September 2020 when Salako introduced one man from his Nnobi town, a native doctor, Chief Peter Chijioke Okaa to her to purchase a piece of land from her inherited landed property.

Nzube who was testifying as a witness in criminal charges of giving false information to the police and malicious damage preferred against the duo of Chief Peter Chijioke Okaa and Olufemi Salako by the Commissioner of police based on complaint made to the police by an American-based Nnobi native, Mr. Bonaventure Ezekwenna told Chief Magistrate Okoye that after she sold the N2million piece of land to Chief Okaa, the latter came and pleaded with her to give her an access road to that piece of land she sold to him.

She said that she offered Okaa a part of her estate where she already had a bungalow but told him to knock down part of the bungalow so as to create access road passing through there to his piece land.

Nzube said that she demanded that Okaa should build another bungalow for her in a part of the estate as a replacement for that part of her bungalow she knocked down to have access road to the N2million she purchased from her.

She said that Mr. Okaa after knocking down the bungalow started constructing the replacement as they agreed but suddenly stopped the construction and rather came and requested to buy the entire estate from her.

She said that Okaa as a native doctor advised her that she had to move away from that estate; that if she did not vacate the estate that she and her children would die; that why his father and every member of her family have died was because they were living in the estate.

Nzube said that Okaa told her that he would purchase a land somewhere and build a house for her there valued at N10million being the value of her inherited landed property she should vacate.

She said that Salako later lured her to sign a document mortgaging the estate to Okaa without the latter having purchased a land somewhere else and building a house for her to relocate to with her children.

Nzube also told the Court that when Okaa did not fulfill his promise, Salako introduced another person from Nnobi who came and offered to purchase the property at the same N10million. She said that the person told her that he was an engineer to Mr. Bonaventure Ezekwenna who was based in the United States of America.

Nzube said that based on the agreement, she sold the property which she said had about 11 uncompleted apartments to Mr. Bonaventure Ezekwenna and signed all necessary documents for him including Power of Attorney for take over administration of the Land and Deed of Conveyance, adding that Ezekwenna paid him N10million for purchasing the property.

Nzube said that it was after the sale of the land to Bonaventure Ezekwenna that Salako lured her to run away with him to Lagos, and, that after they arrived Lagos, Salako took her to Ilepeju in Otta, Ogun state where he introduced her to one Mike who sold an uncompleted building at N2.8million to her. She said that Salako later collected the sum of N4m from her to renovate the building and another N500,000 from her.

She told the Court that Salako never allowed her to see any documents relating to the purchased Ogun state building, adding that he also spent the sum of N15million she earlier realised from sale of her another inherited land.

She told the Court that Salako had access to withdrawing money from her bank account because he had her ATM card and the PIN number.

Nzube told the Court that she got to know that Salako was actually from Benin Republic when police tracked her to Lagos following complaint by Mr. Bonaventure Ezekwenna when Salako advised that they should escape to Cotonou to go and live there, that his parents were there.

Nzube told the Court that the police were later to arrest her and Salako and that she made statements to the police at State CID, Lagos and other police commands where she made it clear that Okaa did not pay her any money in respect of the property she sold the Mr. Bonaventure Ezekwenna for N10m.

Tension is building up in Anambra State as Joint Transporters Forum of Anambra State (JTF), comprising drivers of different vehicles, including motorcycles, tricycles, small and shuttle buses have petitioned the State Assembly over alleged revenue diversion and other sharp practices involving some government officials.

The petition, which is already causing tension here and there, was addressed to the Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, and dated August 4th, but was entitled petition against Dr Greg Ezeilo (AG Chairman AIRS) and A V.M Ben Chiobi (RTD) State Coordinator ANJET and others.

The Statement signed by Comrade Moses Ohanebo, the President JTF and the Assistant Secretary JTF, Comrade Innocent Obagha, claimed that some government appointees have reconstituted ANJET which was recently banned by governor Chukwuma Soludo, and are allegedly using them to extort and divert government revenues as against the purposes behind their previous formations.

The group also alleged that the ANJET and others were being used by revenue racketeers to launch attacks on their members, detain and inflict pains on them, hereby adversely affecting the welfare of their members.

It reads, "we write to officially inform you of the unfortunate activities going on in the state as as it concerns threat to lives and revenue generation. It is our interest to save the state from insurrection, revenue and thieves in the high places hence we state as follows:

"We are members of Joint Transporters Eorum Anambra State; Joint Transporters
Forum comprises of leaders and members of registered Motorcycle Tranşpot Union,
Registered Tricycle Union, Registered Taxi Association, Registered United Mini-truck
Association, Registered Urban Bus Drivers Association and Registered Heavy Duty
Vehicles Association thạt agreed to synergize together for security menace.

"That we are aware of Governor Soludo's new digital revenue collections and we
are in full support of the innovation. That we are also aware that two outfits were involved in the enlorcement of this
digital collections. These outfits are Ocha Brigade and ANJET. That these two outfits suddenly deviated from their terms of references and engaged into all manner of criminalities and social vices particularly ANJET which include Increasing penalties from N5,000 and N10,000 respectively for Keke.

"and buses to between N15,000 to N30,000, Arresting, detaining and extorting drivers of private buses to the tune of
between N30,000 to N50,000 depending on the situation, Arresting and unlawfully detaining drivers who refuse to pay them such high penalties in a black Maria Stationed at one of the leisure garden at Upper lweka where ANJET have their office, and Collection of the sum of N100,000 as bail fee from each of the detained persons in the black Maria," the stated.

They also alleged that "officers of ANJET and the few from Ocha Brigade have
started invading us again in the same manner they used to do hence the need for
this protest letter as we have also drawn the attention of the commissioner of police and Director of DSS as well as Mr. Governor to this ugly trend."

They called on the State House of Assembly to quickly intervene into the matter to avoid possible breakdown of law
and order and "such pillage of the state revenue."

When contacted, the Director in charge of Operations, AIRS, Dr Christian Madubuko, said he was not part of the reconstitution of ANJET but it was done by the Acting CHAIRMAN of AIRS.

"The old ANJET disbanded were brought together and changed their uniform as old wine in new skin. I am not part of it, and I will never support it. They are not genuinely recruited by the AIRS. I don't know them, I heard they were reconstituted by the Acting CHAIRMAN, and my opinion was not sought, and even when I gave them my word, they did not take it," he noted.

TALES OF TWO ANAMBRA ILLUSTRIOUS SONS, THE FACTS AND THE SAD REALITY.

The Anambra media space has become awashed with different narratives since the ministerial list was announced in the Senate. Different divides have been created, and the sides have taken it upon themselves to trade blames and malign Principal characters on either sides.

For clarity, this situation does not concern us as an organisation, particularly as one that is a health based organisation and not political, we naturally should have no interest in the matter, but when the name of our benefactor is being maligned wrongly, posterity behoves a responsibility on us to speak up, and we would make our voices loud.

We have read with dismay articles published on several online media platforms aimed and worded to not only misrepresent facts but with intentions of pitting Anambrarians against each other, casting slurs on our prominent sons as it relates to the Ministerial list of President Tinubu.

It is rather absurd that people would stoop so low to engage in such infantile charade of tainting the image of Chief Paul Chukwuma, someone they most likely have had no personal dealings with nor have any cause to have started their charade other than feeding from the political tension being heated in the state.

Chief Paul Chukwuma, a former Auditor of the APC is a reserved personality with little or no media attention, and as a result of his reclusive nature, some media miscreants have capitalised on that to start a media campaign against his personality, particularly with regards to the ministerial list.

Our organisation shall not tolerate such utterances anymore as we insist that men of goodwill and with free flowing benevolent spirit like Chief Chukwuma do not deserve the name calling and labeling online.

That Sen. Andy Uba did not make the ministerial list should not be an issue that would cause people to pick their notepads to malign and blame others for his misfortunes. We should be concerned about the general interest of the state than our personal interests. There are lots of personalities who feel they deserve the ministerial slot of Anambra but were not given, so why is Sir. Chukwuma being blamed for Sen. Andy Ubah's woes.

In the months we have known Sir. Chukwuma as an organisation it has always been series of goodwill and enchanting benevolence that has enriched the welfare of our members. He is one that genuinely cares and extends his benevolence out of kindness and not for pecuniary interests like is the case for most politicians.

Sir, Paul Chukwuma is a renowned academic, ICT expert, the founder of Olive University, Burundi, and benefactor to many orphanage homes in the country. He is rather preoccupied with leaving lasting legacies in Education and building a reputable institution of learning in West Africa. Such a person with a gentle mien should not be dragged into frivolities and the jaundiced thinking of some persons who feel that every other person must be blamed but themselves for their misfortunes.

It is right to state facts, and such fact is that there is no rift between Sen. Andy Ubah and Sir. Paul Chukwuma, none existed when the latter was the Campaign DG of the former and none existed after. It was under the leadership of Sir. Chukwuma as the APC Gubernatorial Campaign DG that Anambra witnessed the biggest political crossovers in any Governorship election cycle, even to the point of a Deputy Governor leaving the ruling party to join the campaign train. How can it be alluded that such a person who caused such turbulence in the political system of Anambra for the benefit of Sen. Ubah could thereafter become the cause of the Ubah's misfortune.

It is also on record as confirmed by the APC State Secretary for Anambra that after the 2021 Governorship elections that Sir. Paul Chukwuma rendered an account to the party of all monies received and spent during the elections. He returned what was left both in monies and office equipment. And the party never found him wanting nor lacking in integrity during the discharge of his duiies as the campaign DG. Thus, the perceived woes of Sen. Andy Ubah cannot and should not be attributed to Sir. Chukwuma.

It is high time Sen. Andy Ubah looked inwards and searched himself and if he is sincere he could deduce from such reflections that whatever misfortune he may be experiencing are not the making of those his people wish to put the blames on.

The persons living with sickle cell in Anambra State can remember Sir. Paul Chukwuma for his scholarships, strides in Education, hospital bills, benevolence in welfare amongst other things. What exactly could we remember Sen. Ubah for both as a lawmaker and someone who has been in the Executive quarters of government for years. The traducers of Sir. Chukwuma know the truth and its high time this truth is let out in loud voices.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Friday, swore in a total of 1,610 corps members for 2023 Batch B Stream 1 orientation course in Anambra.

The event held at Nnamdi Azikiwe unity permanent orientation camp in Mbaukwu/Umuawulu, Awka South LGA, Anambra State, was attended by governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by Mr Patrick Aghamba, the commissioner for Youth, the State Chief Judge, Hon. Ochie Anyachebelu, and others.


Speaking at the occasion, the State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Blessing Ekene Iruma, disclosed that the corps members included 702 males and 908 females, adding that since arrival, their response and participation in the various activities have been commendable.

"They have been disciplined and helpful to the running of the day to day activities of the Camp. The purpose of this Orientation Course is to properly introduce and acquaint the prospective Corps members with the ideals and objectives of the NYSC
programme.

"The Orientation Course, is an opportunity for them to learn important
skills, imbibe discipline and foster a sense of nationhood and unity. It is also a time for them to interact with one another, build friendships and develop leadership qualities. I would like to express my profound gratitude to the Government of Anambra State for their continuous support towards the NYSC Scheme," she noted.

Iruma also assured corps members of security and welfare, even as she stressed the needs for them to be of good conduct, cooperate with NYSC officials and members of the host community.

"Your behavior and attitude will determine the success of your stay here. Take advantage of the various skill acquisition programs available and actively participate in community development projects. These opportunities will
not only empower you but also leave a lasting impact on the community.

"During the course of this Orientation, there will be various cultural and recreational activities to engage in. I encourage you to actively participate and embrace the rich cultural heritage of Anambra State. This will foster unity and understanding among corps Members from different parts of the country," she added.

The NYSC boss also appealed to both the State and Local govermment authorities for intervention in the area of locating the proposed NYSC Southeast Area Skill Acquisition Centre in Umuawulu.

"This will provide Corps members and the entire community the opportunity to acquire valuable skills that will enable them to become self-employed and contribute to the development of the
State. We also appeal to the Anambra State Government to speedily intervene in the erosion menace currently threatening the structures of the orientation camp.

"I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to the host communities of
Umuawulu/Mbaukwu as well as the Awka South Local Government administration
for their warm reception and hospitality. Your support and cooperation have made
it possible for us to hold this Orientation Course successfully," she concluded.

It was observed during the occasion that some parts of the parade ground have been completely cut-off by gully erosion resulting from recent repeated heavy downpour, even as the security fence and structures at the orientation camp risk being washed away if nothing is done to remedy the situation.

Speaking on the development, Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo regretted that erosion has been a constant menace in the state, noting that over 1,000 active gully erosion is already ravaging the state.

The governor who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, while speaking to journalists, urged the people and residents to consider planting of trees to help curtail the excesses of erosion in the state. He also said the government will look into the erosion matter at NYSC with hope of providing solution.

Congratulating the new corps members, Soludo said NYSC has over the years, lived up to the vision of impacting positively on national development especially in rural communities through
developmental projects.

He urged the corps members to engage in various community development projects and activities, and to fully immerse themselves in the unique Anambra experience to make the most of this opportunity.

An activist, Mrs Aisha Edward-Maduagwu has called for appointment of a man as commissioner for women affairs in Anambra State.

Edward-Maduagwu, who disclosed this in an interview, argued that women who have held the commissionership of women affairs were not compassionate enough to address their injustices.

The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), Thursday, entered into partnership with the Zone 13 of Nigerian Police Force Ukpo, Anambra State with a view to secure and provide for the flood victims in the State.

According to a statement from Zone 13 Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO), Ms Josephine Ihunwo, a Superintendent of Police, the partnership was reached when a team from NRCS led by Engr. Kingsley Okoye visited the AIG, Olofu Tony Adejoh in his office.

Okoye during the visit told the AIG represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Zonal Criminal Investigations Department, DCP Umar Mohammed, that they would be visiting flood victims at Anambra East, Anambra West, and Ogbaru Local Government Areas to support them with the sum of ₦30,000.00 each, and drilling of water boreholes at affected communities.

"The team visited in order to establish synergy with the Nigeria Police Force on security situation, security assessment and flood ligament in Anambra State. The AIG represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Zonal Criminal Investigations Department, DCP Umar Mohammed, and the management team warmly and professionally received the team led by Engr. Kingsley Okoye.

"The Assistant Inspector-General of Police assured the team of maximum support in the area of security and equally guaranteed that the Anambra State Commissioner of Police will engage with the team for further on-the-ground security emplacements towards the achievement of their laudable efforts.

"The NRCS team notified the Police that the targeted areas for their operations are Anambra East, Anambra West, and Ogbaru Local Government Areas respectively which were devastated by flood. They also pledged to support the flood victims which affected about five hundred affected households, with the sum of N30,000.00 each, and drilling of water boreholes will be carried out in the affected communities."

No fewer than 2,000 students across 21 Local Governments (LGAs) are set to compete in the state finals of the Anambra School Sports Festival (ANSSSI) scheduled to hold between June 21 and June 24.

The finalists who emerged after scaling through the community, local government and zonal elimination stages which started since May 17, will take part in the finals of the 10 competitive events that would be staged in six venues in Awka, the State.

The Chairman, Anambra Sports Development Commission, Mr Patrick-Estate Onyedum, who disclosed this after a meeting of the main Organising Committee and Local Government Sports Officers on Friday, described the level of competition among the students as high and expository.

According to him, the game started out with about 17,000 students from 610 about a month ago, is set to end well as preparations were on top gear for a thrilling finals and closing ceremony.

"I want to commend my sports officers at the Local Government Areas, Games Masters and Coordinators who managed the process with diligence and commitment to produce these finalists. The students showed raw and rare talents, the festival has been competitive and the spirit is high because they have longed for it, that is why we can not thank our governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo enough," he said.

He further maintained that local and foreign scouts were already in the state identifying budding talents while assuring that exceptional talents would be harvested and placed on close mentorship where they would develop their talents and pursue their studies.

He noted that the schedule released by the main organising Committee showed that venues for the various events are football, Government Technical College and Paul University football pitch; Swimming, Marble Arch Hotel and Tennis, Cheese and Scramble, City Sports Club all in Awka .

The Anambra Vigilante Group, AVG, Thursday, said Governor Chukwuma Soludo was battle ready to smoke out criminal elements in the State.

AVG, which disclosed this in a statement signed by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Mr Moses Ejindu, opined that the government's determination to secure the State must be accomplished because no matter where the criminals hideout.

The group added that they were working on the total and close regulation of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng, whom it claimed was a no-nonsense CP that would never close his eyes and watch AVG killing anybody and still allow them to be operating in the state.

It reads in parts thus, "Reacting to the most recent media attack on the local security outfit by the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), AVG said it has been made to believe that the rights group might not be abreast of the mandate handed over to the security outfit through the law made by the State House of Assembly, which is to arrest and hand over to the police for investigation and prosecutions (if need to arise).

"Dusting the involvement of the outfit in the purported barbaric and unchecked killings of unarmed civilians as well as incessant unlawful arrests and arbitrary detention as alleged by the rights group, AVG said; "in as much as we have regards for the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety); we are shocked to our marrows that such unfounded allegation could emanate from a rights group known for the representation of the oppressed in the society.

"It is wrong for the rights group, anticipated to have come up with recommendations for the Hon. Commissioner for Homeland Security, Chief Chikodi Anarah (a.k.a Igbakaigba, and the men of the AVG for having staked their lives on daily bases to ensure that everybody across the state, including the Intersociety members sleep with their two eyes closed.

Commissioner for Homeland Security, Chief Chikodi Anarah (a.k.a Igbakaigba) as the outfit which has been receiving encomium from Ndi-Anambra both at home and in Diaspora for recapturing the hideouts that were taken over by the men of the underworld before the coming of the present administration would turn overnight and become a dog that eats the rope hung on its neck.

"Lastly, it is glaring that the State Police Command and its sisters' security agencies have made tremendous arrests of suspects linked to the killing of the US Conveyor which took place within Ogbaru Council in the state recently and none of the suspects linked AVG men in the deadly act. We are wondering where the Intersociety generated what they dished out to the members of the public but at the right time, any person or group of persons that alleges may be compelled by the law to prove beyond a reasonable doubt on the allegation(s) he or she alleged".

"The armed bandits and their supporters (including, as is evident in the recent publication, the Intersociety) are losing the stranglehold on Anambra State as well as the battle to continue senseless killings in the State," AVG concluded.

"Unveiling the real identity of the accused jobless Emma Powerful while fielding answers to question from our correspondent in his Awka office on Monday, the Anambra Vigilant Group, Public Affairs Officer, Moses Ejindu said; Emmanuel Ihejinueme Elelem (a.k.a) Emma Powerful hails from Elelem in Ngo-Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, adding that Emma Powerful’ is actually an office that different top notch IPOB members operate using code name, “Emma Powerful”, so as to confuse the Nigerian security operatives.

“He is married with children, he was a bus conductor and motorcycles’ emblem seller in Onitsha, having instigated the killings of innocent Nigerians, the self-acclaimed journalist flew to Ghana for safety”. Recall that since the inauguration of Prof. Charles Chukwuma Souldo as the governor of Anambra State last year, the state government has recorded tremendous achievements in the areas of dislodging the outlawed group and its armed ESN from their hideouts across the state.

Disclosing that all the insecurity currently ravaging the South East is borne out of the imagination of the jobless and noxious Emma Powerful, prayed the federal government to invoke the law of the land on Emma Powerful, this AVG said will go a long way in addressing the insecurity in the South East region.

According AVG; “the proscribed group who are not too comfortable with the high level of manhunt they face in our hands, courtesy of the office of State Homeland Security Commissioner, (Igbakaigba), we have vowed to capture Emmanuel Ihejionuem, hand him over to security agencies for prosecution anytime, anywhere he is sighted in the South East. The criminals’ hunt we have mounted against the lawless group is not going to stop until we rid all their criminal hideouts Emmanuel Ihejionuem and his partners-in-crime uses to kidnap, rob under point and kill as if they can create human being.

“We are aware that the reason behind IPOB, through the instigation of their Director, Media and Publicity Secretary is doing is to scuttle the determination of the Honouarble Commissioner to flush out criminal elements in Ugbene, Achalla, Nando, Isuana Ocha, Ebenebe, Ukulu, Igbariam, Amanuke communities and other parts of the state.

Reacting to the IPOB claims that the Homeland Security Commissioner masterminds the criminal activities happening in some communities in the State, AVG spokesman dusted the allegations and noted that the positive track records of the Commissioner represent the stuff he was made of.

On the alleged unholy romance of the Homeland Security Commissioner with some criminals operating in the above-named communities and Ogbaru, AVG openly accused IPOB of sponsoring the criminals with the motive to insight the citizenry against the good works AVG have been doing in Anambra State.

"Yes, accepted that some youths who claimed to be IPOB/ ESN are operating in some hideouts , we are also aware of the criminal camps at Ugwuaborshi and Isiodo where the criminals operate and we are challenging IPOB Director, Media, and Publicity Secretary to explain why ESN should not join hands with AVG(if they are interested to secure our people) to flush out the criminals if they are not behind the crimes.

"It is noteworthy that the Commissioner and AVG, has sworn never to give a breathing space on the activities of the bad elements and we have resolved to recapture all the camps presently occupied by the criminal elements, IPOB design to distracts us through coming up with unfounded allegations cannot deter AVG from our legitimate operations.
Challenging Emma Powerful’s denial that he is not behind duping their unsuspecting victims, Moses Ejindu added; “the IPOB and their co-sponsors should stop hiding but come bold and prove their claims and if Emma Powerful is denying using his proscribed group to dupe their unsuspecting victims, let him come bold and disclose his means of livelihood.

"Hon. Chikodili Anara, Igbakigba to the best of our knowledge never in any way had any discussion with Emma Powerful and has nothing with someone who is in hiding with unidentified means of livelihood. Emma Powerful should stop his act of blackmail as one day, vulture will surly state how it was made the king of animals," AVG Public Affairs concluded.

Traditional Rulers and Presidents-General across the seven Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Anambra State, Thursday, said they have moved to sensitise and mobilise their people towards a successful 2023 general elections.

Some communities in Anambra South which comprised of Aguata, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Ihiala, Orumba North, Orumba South and Ekwusigo had recently been under attack, leading to some natives losing either property or relatives owing to attacks by gunmen.

The monarchs and their presidents-general also disclosed their willingness to provide security and other logistics to the staff and facilities of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the elections.

Speaking at the event, the Secretary, Anambra South Traditional Rulers Council and Traditional Ruler of Ezinifite, Aguata LGA, Igwe Chukwuma Orji, explained that engagement meetings were already on to make the zone heaven for credible elections.

"Election must hold in all communities, wards and polling units in Anambra South. We are mobilising our people. We are sensitising and mobilising our subjects who participated on the recently concluded Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise to obtain their PVCs. This is our election. We will ensure that it records massive turnout and most peaceful," he said.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Anambra South chapter of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), Chief Chika Moumaife, added that they would engage their natives by employing different tactics and strategies, train and equip their local vigilantes to boost security throughout the exercise.

"Election is a civic responsibility. Everyone who is qualified to vote must not deny self the opportunity. If you don't vote, you will be the loser, not the politician. That is why we must participate in electing our future leaders. We will not rest in meeting with all people concerns in our zone. We must secure our environment and elect our representatives," Moumaife added.

Earlier, the State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Queen Elizabeth Agwu, charged the monarchs and presidents-General from Anambra South, to own up to security of lives and properties as the commission had prepared materials ready, with staff already equipped ahead of the poll.

"Election will hold in all Anambra South.
INEC as corporate existence of Nigeria is focused on credible election. Election is everyone concern. Whatever Nigeria is doing concerns us. We will conduct a credible poll, and votes must count.

" Anambra South must stand to assure us that election must hold. Anambra South must stand to secure selves. No one can secure your place better than you. We have prepared the materials and others for election. Just tell your subjects to secure their PVCs. We don't collect money to give PVCs. Our EOs don't collect money," she noted.

Traditional Rulers and Presidents-General in Anambra State have vowed to partner the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) towards ensuring a credible poll on 2023 general elections.

The community leaders, who disclosed this at Awka during a meeting organised by the commission to brainstorm with the monarchs and presidents General from Anambra Central Senatorial districts, assured that they would secure the commission's facilities, offices and staff throughout the polls.

According to Chief Titus Akpudo, the President-General, Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), represented by his Vice (Anambra Central), Hon. Ikechukwu Offorkansi, PGs will also sensitise their subjects who were yet to collect their Permanent Voters'Cards (PVC) to go for theirs before the election.

Also speaking, the Traditional Ruler of Okpuno town, Awka South LGA, Igwe Simeon Okafor, who is Vice Chairman Central, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council and representative of the Chairman of the Council (Obi Alfred Achebe), the monarchs value the sacrifices the commission was offering to salvage Nigeria, and would reciprocate by mobilising their subjects accordingly.

Earlier, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Anambra state, Dr Queen Elizabeth Agwu, appealed for support of the community leaders in conducting credible polls, due to their observable influences and respects in the society.

"Security issue is localised. There is no community where the natives are unaware of identities of any criminal element among them. As community leaders, the INEC consider you as critical stakeholders.

" We trust that you can help provide adequate security to our facilities, staff, offices,, especially during elections. We are charging you to make adequate security arrangements that will guarantee smooth conduct of the 2023 general elections at your communities, " she pleaded.

She also appealed to community leaders to sensitise their people who participated on the recently concluded Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise to collect their Permanent Voters'Cards (PVC) across the 21 Council Areas.

According to her, the state has taken delivery of additional 283,431 PVCs excluding the 132,626 PVCs earlier received and shifted to 21 Local Governments Areas (LGAs) for distributions.

The REC, however, warned that the commission would surely prosecute whoever would be caught buying or selling PVCs, even as she enjoined electorate to safeguard theirs to avoid been disfranchised, because according to her, "PVCs are highly valued and that is why they are buying them from their owners to disenfranchise those people they purchased their PVCs."

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Saturday, praised the rich African cultural heritage and hospitality presence in Anambra State.

The Anambra State Coordinator, NYSC, Mrs Blessing Ekene Iruma, observed this at cultural carnival held at Nnamdi Azikiwe Unity NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area for 2022 NYSC batch C stream one corps members.

The festival entertained performance by different cultural groups, including martial arts, sack race, thread in the needle, catching the rain, and filling the can.

Iruma, who noted that cultural festival was to expose Nigerian youths to different cultures and languages in the country, enjoined Corps members to appreciate the beauty, gains and strength of the country in its diversity.

According to her, maintaining Nigeria’s unity is a shared responsibility, which everyone has role to play.

She further praised the State Government and security agencies for the numerous supports they have accorded to the scheme and Corps members generally, even as she extolled governor Chukwuma Soludo led administration for sustaining the kind gesture.

Ilonzo, assure Igbo of new beginning, fruitfulness as group holds deliverance prayer

The Founder, Centre for Psychic and Healing Administration (CPHA), Chief Dr Mrs Flora Nkemakonam Ilonzo, yesterday, assured the Igbo nation that they would begin to experience positive turnaround and progress in all areas of their lives.

Ilonzo, disclosed this at Enugu, the capital of Enugu State, during the world Igbo prayers convoked by Ihu Igbo Ohuru, an association of eminent personalities with a passion to deliver the Igbo land from agony, pains and disasters.

The healer recalled how God used her to heal many, as well as help Nigeria recover alms, ammunition, prevent bloody coup and events that could have led to the massacre of prominent Igbo personalities and leaders.

She extolled the roles played by surviving first republic minister, Chief Mbazuluike Amaechi, the world oldest Monarch, Igwe Kenneth Orizu and others in making the event a success, and prayed God to grant them wisdom and health to help reposition the Igbo nation.

The event was attended by Igbo leaders, titled Chiefs, prophets, pastors, priests and other religious from Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Imo and Ebonyi States.

The world Igbo leaders will on October 22nd, 2022 storm Enugu, the capital of Enugu State and headquarters of the defunct Eastern Nigeria, to pray fervently for God's intervention and new beginning for all the Igbo speaking people.

The event which shall hold at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, from 10am. is entitled EKPERE MA KA IHU IGBO (intercession for cleansing and progress of Igbo nation), and is being convened by notable sons and daughters of Igbo nation under the auspices of Ihu Igbo Ohuru.

Speaking in a live broadcast at Awka, the Coordinator of Ihu Igbo Ohuru, Chief Dr Mrs Ifeanyichukwu Nkemakonam Ilonzo, said that invitees to the programme are all concerned Igbo men and women, including political leaders, religious leaders, artisans, business tycoons, students, professionals, jobless, civil servants, self-employed, among others.

Ilonzo, however warned that the outing had no political, religious or fetish undertone, so none should come to showcase superiority or discrimination of any kind, because it's strictly for prayers, for atonement of our sins, forgiveness, declaration and pronouncements for God to rule over our affairs and land.

According to Ilonzo who is also the founder, Centre for Psychic and Healing Administration (CPHA)-Awka, no fetish things or weapons of war will be allowed into the venue, and whoever tries otherwise will face the full wrath of law and curses from God, Almighty.

"It is not a must that everyone should come to the venue. You can observe the prayers at home if you can't make it physically to the venue. On that day (October 22,2022), every Igbo son and daughter is expected to fetch (buy) some saint leaf (nchu-onwu/nchu-anwu/arigbe/arije). Wash it and bathe with the water.

" Or just pour some of the water in your mouth and pour it out again. Speak positively to your life and our land. Forgive those who offended you. Ask God to forgive you. Recant any curse or curses you laid on yourself or people for any reason. Do this thing first in the morning before you go to any place; church, markets, visitations, etc. that day.

"God has remembered Ndigbo. He wants us to wipe our tears. He will use this prayers to cleanse us from our iniquities curses and wrath we incurred on ourselves. Some parents usually lay curses on their children out of frustration or anger. When they noticed this, pride won't allow them to recant. These curses manifest in various ways. This is why our people are killed all over the world. This is why we kill ourselves. This is why people die anyhow.

"Curses turned some to become useless, jobless, kidnappers, cannibals, unfruitful, etc. Some are curses from their parents, relatives or what they brought upon themselves knowingly or unknowingly. Don't forget to do this on 22 October to cleanse yourselves, families and our land.

"Those who can come for the prayers should also come to the venue at 10am. But don't come to the venue with saint-leaf. We don't need it at our prayer ground. Instead, use it at home before coming. If you are outside Nigeria, go to Nigeria/African markets to buy saint-leaf and do as I revealed. This is revelation I got from God. God never failed.

" All my prophesies usually come to pass. I am the woman God used to save President Muhammadu Buhari when he was Military Head of State and wanted to visit old Anambra State. COEASU Umunze won't be coerced to suspend three weeks warning strike, Chairman to management

The College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze, Anambra State, Friday, insisted that they would not suspend their ongoing three weeks warning strike despite alleged intimidation and coercion by the management.

The chapter COEASU Chairman, Dr Churchill Okonkwo, who disclosed this in a press conference in Awka, the State capital, explained that the strike was to compel the management of the college led by Dr Tessy Okoli to pay their unpaid allowances.

Okonkwo, while recalling various efforts made by the union and other stakeholders to convince the institution to pay them were futile, urged parents and guardians to withdraw their wards from the institution immediately to avoid spending unnecessary or predisposing them to insecurity.


According to Okonkwo, the strike commenced on Tuesday after an extensive meeting of members of the union, who expressed displeasure over indebtedness to them by the management but the management was still using counter notice to persuade students not to leave the school premises.

He said, “We are here to notify you that lecturers of Federal College of Education, Umunze have commenced a three weeks warning strike. We believe we want to let the public know, especially parents of our students who may want to believe that their children were in school undergoing academic activities to know that no academic activity is going on in the college now.

"The management of the college has been trying to deny the strike, but truth is that the students are simply staying idle in school, and we believe it is a bit harmful to leave students on campus to stay idle without any activity. You know that by allowing them to remain idle could predispose them to insecurity and crisis.

“DTA or Mobilization of academic staff who go for supervision for teaching practice has not been paid since 2018 till date. There is also the TETFUND teaching practice intervention, which helps to augment whatever the college gives for teaching practice supervision, and in Umunze it has not been accessed since 2016 till date. And other welfare packages like degree Honorarium.

“We have been patient for too long, yet this money doesn’t get paid every year. We have even sent a peace committee made up of former acting provosts to meet the provost of the college, Dr Tessy Okoli, but she has refused to budge. That is why we decided to go on strike.”

However, a short notice circulated by the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr Sam Otti, insisted that there was no strike, while also advising students to prepare and participate for their end of semester examination which ought to have commence same Tuesday.

Okonkwo, however, said the industrial action disrupted the examination even though the management was still coercing some lecturers and Head of Departments to return to classroom for the purpose of organising the examinations.

The former Anambra State governor, Senator Emmanuel Andy Uba, Friday, dismissed allegations that he loaned N50 million from Engineer Arthur, but resorted to justice and fair to resolve the impasse.

An online publication and some print publications had claimed that Uba borrowed from Eze without paying.

The statement explained further, "My attention has been drawn to the defamatory, maligning and character injurious publications in the print and electronic medium, as well as social media platforms on malicious falsehood and allegations arising from the execution of the judgement of the High Court of Anambra State in suit No: AG/94/2016, through the bailiffs of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja on 23/8/2022. 


"It is fundamentally imperative to unequivocally state in clear and categorical terms the true factual position, thus. For the avoidance of doubt, I never borrowed N50,000,000 (fifty million naira only) from prince Arthur Eze, both of us only attended a church service at St. James Anglican Church Uga, Aguata L.G.A, Anambra State during my senatorial campaign in the build-up to 2015 general elections.


"In the course of the said church service, Prince Arthur Eze donated N50,000,000 (fifty million naira only) to support my senatorial political campaign on the altar and the entire congregant was engulfed with joy and happiness which made the officiating priest extend a warm handshake of gratitude and appreciation for his kind gesture and I equally sent a letter of appreciation dated 22/2/2015 to Prince Arthur Eze.


"It is shocking and baffling how a man will stand on the sacred altar of God and donate to the political aspiration and campaign of his brother, of which the officiating priest extended a warm handshake of gratitude and appreciation for his kind gesture and later turn around to deny the purpose of the donation. I, therefore, call on the general public, men and women of goodwill as well as political friends and supporters, business associates and family members, with an enduring passion for justice, fair play and equity, to remain calm."


He added that he was dumbfounded, surprised and flabbergasted "having learnt that my bosom friend and brother, had through his company Oranto Petroleum Limited through which the said cheque of N50,000,000 (fifty million nairas only) was drawn had filed an action one year after at the High Court of Anambra State, Aguata division sitting at ekwulobia in suit No: AG/94/2016, through what they called (undefended list) Procedure or liquidated money demand or summary judgment procedure. The pertinent question on the lips of many people would be, do people go to the rooftops to praise or thank others for granting them loan facilities?


" How many people have you seen that secured a loan facility from a bank or an individual and went to church praising the creditor for granting them such a loan facility which would only be repaid? I quickly engaged my lawyers who filed my defence on merit denying the allegations that the said money was a loan but a free will donation, unfortunately despite our obvious defence and issues having been joined, the trial court refused and failed to afford us fair hearing by having the matter heard on full-blown trial where witnesses will be called and evidence led, but proceeded to hear the matter on (undefended list) procedure or summary judgment procedure, that is, hearing the case on only the allegations and documents filed by the plaintiff (Oranto Petroleum Limited) without contradiction, whatsoever. 


"The court went ahead to grant all the reliefs and entered judgement in favour of the plaintiff on 6/3/2017. In exercise of my constitutional right, I appealed to the Court of Appeal Enugu division culminating to Senator Andy Andy –Vs- Oranto Petroleum Limited, Appeal No: CA/E/197/2017, challenging the said decision of the High Court of Anambra State among other things, on the ground that the said money was a free will donation and not a loan as well as a challenge that hearing the matter on the undefended list without my input amount to a breach of my fundamental right to fair hearing guaranteed under section 36 of the 1999 constitution of Nigeria (as amended), which occasioned a miscarriage of justice. 


"Consequent upon the above, parties filed and exchanged their respective briefs of argument and the appeal was set down for hearing on the 26th of february, 2019. However, there was an intervention by some Anambra stakeholders and I was approached by Prince Austin Ndigwe (Uzu-Awka) who is a mutual friend of myself and Prince Arthur Eze for an amicable settlement of the matter out of court. I was thereupon, after a meeting between myself and Prince Arthur Eze at his Enugu residence which was championed by Prince Austin Ndigwe (Uzu-Awka), instigated by way of advice to withdraw the appeal on the ground that Prince Arthur Eze had then become satisfied that the money was a donation for my senatorial political campaign and not a loan as he was meant to believe earlier.


"Prince Arthur Eze persuaded me through the said Prince Austin Ndigwe (Uzu-Awka) to discontinue the appeal and to demonstrate good faith and brotherliness, I  quickly instructed my lawyer to withdraw the appeal, even though we ought to extract terms of settlement as a condition because the appeal was at the concluding stage. Consequently, based on the notice of withdrawal filed by my lawyer, the appeal was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 29th February 2019.


"I was deeply astonished and shocked beyond bone marrow when I learnt that my brother and mutual friend, Prince Arthur Eze despite his undertakings at the meeting had reneged his promises on the gentlemanly and brotherly agreement we had and surprisingly surfaced in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, registered and immediately executed the said judgement of the High Court of Anambra State, Aguata division sitting at Ekwulobia.The subject matter of my appeal to the Court of Appeal Enugu, with the sole intention to embarrass, defame and reduce my reputation before the right-thinking members of the public using numerous hired social media platforms.


"For purposes of clarity, I attached herewith a video clip of Prince Arthur Eze's donation of N50,000,000 to my political campaign for election into the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to represent the Anambra South Senatorial District in the Senate of the National Assembly, made at St. James Anglican church Uga, Aguata L.G.A, Anambra State. This is contrary to the information being circulated in several print and electronic mediums, as well as social media platforms to the effect that the above sum was a interest-free friendly loan, which is a calculated attempt to defame and malign my noble character and hard-earned reputation.


"It is shocking and baffling how a man will stand on the sacred altar of God and donate to the political aspiration and campaign of his brother, of which the officiating priest extended a warm handshake of gratitude and appreciation for his kind gesture and later turn around to deny the purpose of the donation. I have deep respect for rule of law and sanctity of our judicial system with an unblemished political career as a devoted public figure, former Governor of Anambra State, former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and former Special Assistant on Special Duties and Domestic Affairs to President Olusegun Obasanjo, as well as a loving Father, dedicated Christian and law-abiding citizen of this great nation, strongly believe that justice will be done in the final analysis," he added.

Anambra born businessman and security expert, ��� ���� ��������� ����� has hailed the State Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Surveyor Obi Emeka Chukwudi on his drive to make all the youth Information and Communication Technology (ICT) compliance.

Surveyor Obi had donated 20 desktop computer sets for the purpose of training Anambra Youths on ICT just as he promised sometimes in June, 2022.


Nweke, who disclosed his unalloyed support to the initiative while the NYCN Executive paid him a visit, described the programme as a worthwhile venture, which according to him, would make Anambra and Nigeria great.

Nweke, Chairman of a private Security firm, Blueshield Security Company, spoke on security issues in the state, urging the youths to take up the responsibility to stop criminality in the state.

He announced donation of a whooping sum of one million naira to support the Council’s initiatives, granted and approved other areas of partnership and collaboration.

“To show you that I am in total support of your agenda, I will send my security service guardsmen, in any of your programs and activities, as a solidarity support to encourage our positive engagements,” he added.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the NYCN in Anambra, Surveyor Obi, explained that the visit was aimed at appreciating their host for his numerous youth empowerment programmes, scholarship schemes as well as his acclaimed security services.

“This visit was because Anambra youths have identified you as a pillar of support and in recognition of the numerous strides you have taken in the direction of youth empowerment especially as it concerns providing scholarships for indigent youths.

“It is not disputable also that through your security initiative, you have provided employment to many while contributing significantly towards the reduction of crime and criminality in our society.”

Obi went further to intimate their host of the various programmes lined up by his administration, for improving the welfare of youths in the state and creating the opportunity for their abilities to find expression.

Some of these initiatives he noted are in the areas of ICT, Agriculture, governance, among others.

“We have our ICT drive where the Council will on the 19th of this month, be unveiling the 20 sets of desktop computers I donated to it for the training of our young people on ICT. This initiative is so dear to me that I did not have to wait for people to come to our rescue but I took the bold step to procure those accessories.

“And it is in that light that we seek your support and partnership to ensure that we reach the entire length and breadth of our state with this ICT training.
“In the area of Agriculture, we are already partnering with FADAMA and the state Ministry of Agriculture, to provide access for our youths to farming tools and implements to enable them boost their agro-activities.
“This is quite expeditious at this time when oil revenue is fast dwindling and the nation is in dire of an alternative foreign exchange earner. If our youths are supported to boost their produce, they have the chance of becoming exporters of agric produce and by so doing, start earning foreign exchange.
“Also, in the area of governance, while we clamor for more inclusion in government, we are already providing that platform for our youths to acquaint themselves with administrative prowess through our various directorates.
“It is on record that I have appointed many directors who are assisting us man our various directorates and together, we will have the required synergy to achieve our vision across the various set goals.
“In this wise, we want to commend the Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo for appointing many youths into his cabinet and also to head the various LGAs in Transition Chairmen capacity.
“This is a good step and we call for more,” the Anambra NYCN boss appealed.

In a vote of thanks, the ���� Vice Chairman South, Comr Nnadi Kingsely expressed the Council’s heartfelt gratitude to their host for his hospitality and lent his voice to the need for stronger collaboration.

Senior Pastor of the Bible Base Miracle Assembly, Nkpor Agu, Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, Rev Dr Jerry Nwachukwu, has called on the Nigerian youths, who are desirous of positive change in Nigeria, come 2023, to stop exposing their plans and strategies on the social media.

Speaking yesterday, during a service in his church located at No 19 Ezendu Street, Off Mercedes Avenue, Nkpor, the cleric said that strategies employed by youths in marketing their candidate ahead of the 2023 presidential election are exposing their tactics to the "enemy territory."

"For the Nigerian youths, this is time for less talk and much action. They should stop exposing their strategies, so that opponents would not waylay them, and thwart their plans ahead of the polls.

"It's time for more actions, and less of quarrels on the social media. Nigerian youths should engage in the work of mobilizing and educating other Nigerians, so that they will support the candidate that will bring positive change to the country.

"This is the time for Nigerians, especially the youths, to unite, and enthrone good governance. Nigerian youths, irrespective of religion or tribe, should unite and take back the country that rightfully belongs to them.

"Christians, Muslims, traditionalists and other Nigerians should also unite for the same purpose. This is because, hunger, economic downturn, bad policies and insecurity know no religion or tribe. Therefore, irrespective of creed, Nigerians should elect a president that will make the country a better place to live in," he said.

Rev. Nwachukwu also raised the alarm that some politicians are hatching plans with the Independent National Electrical Commission (INEC) to deploy malfunction machines and gadgets to specific parts of the country, in order to give undue advantage to certain political parties, at the expense of others.

He said that the plan was raveled to him in a vision, and warned the INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, as well as states resident commissioners, and adhoc staff for the 2023 presidential election, not to play on the intelligence of Nigerians.

He said, "I have a revelation where I saw INEC, in collusion with certain powerful politicians, hatching plans to thwart the aspiration of majority of Nigerians, by deploying malfunction gadgets to the South East and South South.

"They want to use systematic means to disenfranchise electorates in some states, and boost votes at some other states, where APC and PDP have strongholds.

"The plan is that as the machines will not function well in some areas, INEC will still not use manual voting system to remedy the deficiency. They will pretend that they are following the instructions in the Electoral Act; so that at the end of the day, they will achieve their objectives."

Rev Nwachukwu advised INEC to discard bad machines, and not to deploy them to any polling unit, LGA or state, for the purpose of the 2023 presidential election.
