By Ifeanyi Okoye
Awka

Over 600,000 of people living with disabilities in Anambra State might vote for the Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Senator Andy Uba in the state November 6 poll if other contestants refuse to pacify them.

Uba, it was learnt, was the only contestant that attended the interactive forum of gubernatorial candidates organised by the state chapter of Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) with a view to present their charter of demands which include complete implementation of 2018 state Disabilities Right law.

Some of their demands include full implementation of Disability Rights Law 2018 including establishment of Disability Commission, continuous employment of persons with disabilities, allotment of more political offices to PWDs, extension of years of services for PWDs, Social protection programmes for PWDs, Housing Schemes for PWDs, Scholarship for PWDs, and improved healthcare.

Hon. Chukwuemeka Ezeokwuma, a member of Senator Andy Uba team represented him at the event held yesterday in Awka, explaining that he was out of the state for an emergency and would meet with them once back.

However, the seventeen absentee candidates of other political parties who equally did not send in representatives were Prof. Charles Soludo of APGA, Mr Valentine Ozigbo of PDP, Mr Obiora Okonkwo of ZLP, Dr Godwin Maduka of Accord, and Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo of ADC.

The State Chairman of JONAPWD, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke, who said his office duly sent in official invitations to all the 18 Governorship candidates, regretted that none came in person except Uba that sent in a representative.

"We are not happy that these candidates did not come except Senator Uba, who was represented. But we are not discouraged because we know that this is political period. It may be because the programme was rescheduled after the first date. It is left for our members to choose who to vote during the election.

" The reason why we gathered here is not purposely to make money from the gubernatorial candidates. But for a serious engagement between persons with disabilities and the gubernatorial candidates from various political parties for the forthcoming election in the state which is first of its kinds since the creation of Anambra State.

" Today, we expect to hear directly from candidates what programmes and policies they have for us including plans towards an inclusive government and an inclusive governance where inclusive government would mean making and implementing policies and programmes whose benefits also considers marginalized groups, inclusive Government on the other hand, implies deliberately involving persons with disabilities from the marginalized group, in positions of government to ensure their involvement in policy formation circles to better drive the implementation of an inclusive society," Okeke noted.

Anambra 2021: over a thousand voters welcome Ozigbo as INEC publish PDP candidate

By Okechukwu Onuegbu
Awka

Over a thousand voters in Anambra State, Friday, welcome the Governorship candidate of People's Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Valentine Ozigbo, home with pomps and pageantry after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) publishes name for the November 6 poll.

INEC had on Thursday, September 9, 2021, published Mr Ozigbo and Mrs Azuka Enemo as the PDP governorship and deputy governorship candidates after an Appeal Court sitting in Abuja ruled in his favour in a case brought before it by Senator Ugochukwu Uba, who falsely claimed to be the party's candidate despite failing to participate in the party's primary election held on June 26, 2021.

The supporters, who took to streets of Awka, the State capital, sang songs of victory, waving the PDP flag with optimism for victory.

Addressing the mammoth crowd, Ozigbo described the Appeal Court judgement as "the beginning of a new era in Anambra State".

"Yesterday, we recorded several victories. First, the National Assembly Caucus of the PDP came together to pledge unanimous support for this project. My sister and brothers Senator Uche Ekwunife, Hon Chuchu Onyema, Hon Chris Azubogu, Hon Obinna Chidoka, Hon Chinedu Onwuaso, met in the presence of Governors Aminu Tambuwal and Udom Emmanuel for this purpose. I am grateful to all of them.

"Second, the entirety of the PDP Governors announced that they are solidly supporting this cause and would provide all the necessary resources to ensure that we win this election.

"Also, INEC has published our name as the PDP candidate for the election after a period of uncertainty," Ozigbo said to loud cheers from the animated crowd.

"Despite their loss at the Appeal Court, our detractors attempted to obtain an order for a stay of execution on the judgement. Unfortunately for them, the court threw out their prayer and affirmed Valentine Ozigbo and Owelle Azuka Enemo as the PDP flag-bearers.

"Finally, at the party's National Secretariat in Wadata House, the entirety of the PDP leadership, National Executive Committee, National Working Committee, and Governors from all the zones gathered to inaugurate a powerful 179-member National Campaign Council to execute the election.

"Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State is the Chairman of the Council, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State is his Deputy. At the same time, our brother, Osita Chidoka, will be the Secretary of the Council.

"All the PDP Governors are members of the Council. This is our election to win, and by God's grace, we will march to Agu Awka. It is time for us to show Ndi Anambra the way to go.

"Entering Anambra, I had a first-hand experience of the decay in the state with the terrible condition of the road in Amansea. That road is an example of the dearth of infrastructure in Anambra.

"There's nothing to be proud of in Anambra. Roads are bad, healthcare is non-existent, education is moribund, security is at an all-time low, add this to the state's debt profile, and you will agree that Anambra needs a total overhaul.

"If we don't start now, we might never get it right. Our freedom must begin now. November 6 is our date with history, and we are ready to march to victory," Ozigbo added.

The motorcade proceeded through the streets of Awka, where thousands joined in the celebratory parade, before reaching its final stop at the Anambra State PDP Secretariat in Udoka Estate, where hundreds of party members were on hand to welcome Ozigbo his entourage.

In a brief speech at the party secretariat, Ozigbo affirmed his readiness to run a winning campaign.

"The party at the center has been making moves to undermine the democratic process, but Anambra is not Imo," the respected business leader said.

"They attempted to keep non-sensitive materials for the election in Imo State, but we rejected it, and that decision has been rescinded.

"Our priority now is to mobilise and convince people to vote. This is a divine mandate, and with your support, we will emerge victorious in November," Ozigbo declared.

Valentine Ozigbo is a multiple award-winning global CEO and the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, one of Africa's largest conglomerates with interests in hospitality, oil and gas, energy, power, and agribusiness.

Ozigbo is widely regarded as the favourite to win the Anambra guber election after his revolutionary Ka Anambra Chawapu message sparked one of the biggest political movements in Nigeria.

In July 2021, Ozigbo announced Mrs Azuka Enemo, a seasoned public administrator and two-time Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, as his running mate. Her appointment has been well-received by women groups, traditional rulers, and PDP Elders.

PoliticsAnambra 2021: Uba, APC Urges Voters To Forget Sahara Reporters Fake News by okeychris(op): 4:19pm On Aug 26, 2021
By Ifeanyi Okeke

The Governorship candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) on Anambra State November 6 poll, Senator Andy Uba has dismissed as fake news report published by Sahara Reporters currently in circulation.

Uba, through a statement endorsed by his campaign council, also urged electorate to forget the news which was published in 2017 as it was false and a deliberate attempt to malign his image.

"Our attention has been drawn to an old report published on Sahara Reporters, an online media outlet notoriously known for publishing controversial stories, purporting a certificate forgery allegation against the good person of Distinguished Senator Andy Uba, the All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate for the November 6, Anambra governorship election.

"Ordinarily, the Andy Uba Campaign Council (AUCC), would have chosen to remain silent and not dignify authors of the rehashed fake news with a response, but we are also conscious of the fact that false and fake news are specifically targetted at the public; voting public, in this instance, the good people of Anambra, who may be decieved and hence swayed by what is an outright fabrication," the campaign council stated.

Continuing, it agued that "As a responsible campaign organisation and as it is in keeping with our avowed commitment to keep the good people of Anambra abreast with needed clarifications on Andy Uba's campaign to emerge as governor by God's grace in November, we are forced to make the following statements to clear the air.

"Like we earlier pointed out, the report is an old one, published on 31, March 2017. Common sense should dictate that if there was any truth to the said Sahara Reporters' publication, it would have been a basis for disqualifying our candidate at the party level from even contesting primaries.

"The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), would have been forced to raise objections, too, at some levels. But as it so happened, Sen. Andy Uba did not only scaled through the party primaries, he has been stamped with the seal of approval by INEC as the bonafide authentic candidate of his party.

"Even more, Sen. Uba is still waxing stronger and winning many more stakeholders in Anambra to his worthy course of rescuing the state from the pestilential hands of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Willy Obiano. May we also add, like we earlier noted, that the platform on which the report was published is notoriously known for the worst form of cash and carry journalism. It's a 'pay-as-you-go' kind of publishing portal where what you pay its notorious owner and rabble rouser determines what they publish on Sahara Reporters Platform.

"A detailed analysis of the said report equally bares it out as a poorly done hack job. To those who are familiar with the basic rules journalism, the report failed the basic test of balance and justification. What this means is that when you hear one side of an accusation, you must hear the other side from the man accused and present both in a balanced manner. No truth was established in the story on the claims made about Sen. Uba to warrant such horrid publication.

"No attempt was made by the so called online newspaper to seek out Sen. Andy Uba's comment on the said allegation. As a result of the foregoing, we are forced to again sound the alarm to the general public on the need to be exceptionally wary at this time, going into 2023, of what they read, hear, see and believe on internet. We live in the internet age where all manner of stories, untrue and baseless can be digitally altered to make it real.

"Nothing, as it were, can stop a virtual recreation of fictional certificate and then sent to an exam body, asking it to authenticate such documentation. Of course, the exam body may likely reject authorship of the said certification, thereby unwittingly serving to tanish the image of an innocent man targetted for character assassination because of an election. We do not claim in absolute terms that this is what happened in the Sahara Reporters' story, but the scenario is a likely possibility, a reason why people should be careful in what they choose to believe."

"It is also interesting to note that Sen. Andy Uba has since been in court with the original author of the publication where the senator is rightly seeking a restitution of N24 billion in damages. The author, as we know, is currently on the run, dodging service of suit by court officials. It is also curious that this allegation is being made to surface again. This is because Andy Uba has served twice as a senator. And on both instances, no such allegations came up."

Finally, we advise Sahara Reporters and other reporters of fake news, to see the need in redeeming the dying investigative journalism in Nigeria, and the general public to guard their minds against fake news.

The Director General, Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo campaign organisation, Dr Harris Chuma-Odili has described the gubernatorial candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Anambra State November 6 poll as a seasoned administrator loved by all.

Odili, who disclosed this in a statement, recalled that although Nwankpo, a former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, worked tirelessly in his former political party, All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) but was unlawfully disqualified from its primary.

"Nwankpo has continued on the progressive path set by his Boss before he moved to Anambra to contribute meaningfully in developing the state. His contributions to the success of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA are commendable. Though he was treated disdainfully by men of great disrepute. Courageously, he walked away, and with a resounding ovation, was welcomed by the most peaceful and respected political party in Nigeria, the African Democratic Congress(ADC). Where providence will announce him as the next governor of Anambra state.

"ADC gubernatorial candidate Akachukwu Sullivan Nwankpo as a seasoned administrator, Philosopher, legal luminary, and technocrat has used his skills and positions in different capacities for the growth of Anambra State and Nigeria. PoliticsAnambra 2021: Defected APC Guber Aspirants Won't Affect Our Chances Of Victory by okeychris(op): 8:43pm On Aug 01, 2021
By Okechukwu Christopher

A group, Progressive Movement for Peace (PMP), Sunday, dismissed the news making around that some gubernatorial aspirants of the All Progressive Congress (APC) that recently decamped to other political parties would affect the chances of APC for Anambra State 2021 poll.

PMP stated this in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Hon. Emeka Nnebedum, while reacting to reports that some aspirants of the national party defected after losing their party primary to Senator Andy Uba.

It further maintained that the defected aspirants won't be missed because they have gone to achieve their aims.

"Our attention has been drawn to a fake news making the rounds on some online platform purporting that 12 aspirants that participated in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Anambra State, primary election for the forthcoming state governorship election in November, have defected and were on the verge of joining other political parties.

"According to the fake reports, the said defection comes after series of marathon meetings in the efforts to resolve disagreements between the party and aggrieved aspirants who could not make it, at the party primary election held in June 26, 2021. We, the members of PMP, wish to state clearly and unambiguously that only three aspirants of very little or no political consequence have made such decision.

"They are; Chidozie Nwankwo, Ben Etiaba and Geff Onyejegbu. Other aspirants have chosen to remain in the party as reconciliations are still being worked out. It is also clear why the trio made the desperate dash out of the party given that their purported defection came during the deadline for the closure of substitution window of names by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

"Their intention was never about service. It has always been about what they can get and the APC members saw through that. We also wish to state that other serious aspirants and authentic members of APC in the state are with the Party. As a group for peace and democracy, we the members believe implicitly in the freedom of association and right to dissociate from any political party according to individual choices. Therefore, the defecting aspirants will not be missed," it maintained.

PoliticsAnambra 2021: Uba Campaign Office Warns Primate Ayodele Not To Ridicule God by okeychris(op): 12:39pm On Jul 30, 2021
By Okeke Nwokoye

The campaign council of the Governorship candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC), Andy Uba has warned a controversial evangelist, Primate Elijah Ayodele, against overheating the Anambra State 2021 poll with "fake prophesy."

The council in a statement signed by its Director General, Hon. Paul Chukwuma, observed that it was an act of ridiculing the alter of God when a supposed man of God isolates and speaks against one political party.

"We are once again constrained to call on all well meaning individuals in Anambra and beyond to help prevail on Primate Elijah Ayodele, Leader, INRI Evangelical Church to halt this sudden fixation on Distinguished Senator Andy Uba, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the politics of Anambra State.

"We urge him to copy good examples from men of God who understand that one of the most cherished values of Christianity is it's solute neutrality in human politics. It doesn't signify impassivity. It simply acknowledges that rulership comes from God. Therefore, a situation where a so called man of God wakes up at random to make strange permutations in the name of prophesies like he has been doing, particularly in the last few days on Anambra state politics leaves so much to be questioned.

"Again, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Ayodele, in another set of his controversial prophecies painted unflattering image of the forthcoming election in Anambra state and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Primate Ayodele claimed that God showed him that there would be advanced rigging during the election, adding that the outcome would determine so many things ahead of 2023. He claimed that in his said vision, the ruling party wants to go all out to rig the election in favour of its candidate.

"It may help to also recall that the same self proclaimed man of God had prophesied that APC stands a better chance of winning the election if it fields George Muoghalu, and the APC aspirant was defeated by Distinguished Senator Andy Uba at the party Primary election. To now come out to foresee doomsday for the state, the same APC and the country because his preferred candidate, Muoghalu, is no longer in the race shows the depth of charlatanism Primate Ayodele has fallen into," it noted.

Continuing, "When the Primate made that prediction, we at the Andy Uba Campaign Council (AUCC), were forced to call him out for what he truly is. We advised the cleric not to bring God's altar to ridicule. Since it appears that the cleric is unwilling to listen to reason and common sense, we are again compelled to advert to our earlier position on him that such blatant, open partisan and unabashedly unsolicited campaign, completely contrasts with teachings of Christianity, a religion Distinguished Sen. Andy Uba is completely devoted to.

"Let us also point out again that we, at AUCC, predominantly Christians, too, are again embarrassed by the clear, verifiable shenanigans of Primate Ayodele and his litany of fake prophesies. Was it not the same cleric who, in 2019, claimed that he saw a vision of Saraki winning the presidential election for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)?
Did PDP win? Where is Saraki now?

"He also prophesied against APC and Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state, and said the party will lose, but the governor won uptill Supreme Court. We are at a complete loss, in total bewilderment as to the manner of fake prophesies the Primate has consistently dished out which neither conforms with ecclesiastical teachings nor to the spirituality of the human salvation.

"if the cleric must embarrass himself with this ritual of annual fake prophesies, we urge him to leave God and Christianity out of it. If one may ask, why is Primate Ayodele so fixated on APC and Anambra? Where was he when an opposition party won in Edo state. There has been elections at Bayelsa and Ondo so far credited with integrity. Why weren't any vision made on them? Let us make it abundantly clear to men like Ayodele and his sponsors that under President Muhammadu Buhari, old things have since passed away. Integrity has been the watch word, a reason why elections in Nigeria are becoming progressively cleaner."

Anambra: 95-year-old man, others beg Gov Obiano to certify 'crowned' monarch

By Okechukwu Onuegbu

A 95-year-old man, Chief Nweke Oyemezie, Monday, joined over one hundred other natives of Amanuke, Awka North LGA of Anambra State to demand issuance of certificate of recognition to their 'crowned' monarch, Igwe Dennis Ezebuilo.

Dennis, it was learnt, was reportedly crowned as traditional ruler of the community by all, but his cousin, HRH Igwe Alphonsus Ezebuilo was certified by the state government, thereby leading to court cases and crisis.

Oyemezie, who is Chairman and Oldest person in Amanuke Aged People Association (Otochalu Amanuke), in a welcome party organised by Amanuke people at Central Primary School field to celebrate Dennis return from detention, rejected Igwe Alphonsus, and appealed to government to quickly withdraw his certificate of recognition and transfer same to Dennis.

He said that continuous delaying of certificate of recognition meant for crowned Igwe Dennis was impeding their development, and implored the governor Obiano to take urgent action.

Also speaking, Pastor Hycient Okafor, while commending judiciary for granting their crowned Igwe Dennis freedom from police custody, described him as a God sent, and asked those fighting him to desist or face the wrath of God.

On their parts, women leaders, Mrs Rosaline Emeka, Mrs Gladys Enemou and 85 year old woman, Mrs Ugodia Ananwude, maintained that their support for the crowned monarch was overwhelming because he was chosen and loved by all.

Contributing, a titled Chief from the community, Chief Daniel Obike and the former Deputy President General of Amanuke, Mr Augustine Ejiofor, reiterated that the Community was suffering as a result of denial of Dennis certificate of recontion.

Ejiofor further accused some prominent people of the community as allegedly masterminding issuance of certificate to Igwe Alphonsus against the wishes of the populace.

"Amanuke people are suffering and want freedom from oppressions. Our constitution said that no person can hijack the Affairs of Amanuke but one or few persons are doing that. And whenever we write petitions against their excesses to Obiano, they will lie to the government that we are sabotaging or fighting the government. But we are not fighting the Obiano government. All we are demanding is that our Igwe should be duly certified," he stated.

Speaking in a phone interview, Igwe Dennis Ezebuilo, commended his subjects for standing by him, and advised them to remain peaceful as well as continue to show love to one another as it brings peace, progress, and forward ever.

Ezebuilo, who said he was pained that his community lacks basic government presence, maintained that his reign would bridge the gap by ensuring that they are well secured, developed and empowered individually and collectively to thrive in all their endeavours.

The Traditional Ruler of Neni, Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State, HRH Igwe Damian Ezeani, Saturday, appealed to government to empower the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to embark on nationwide sensitisation campaign on environmental and personal hygiene.

Ezeani, who made the appeal at Neni, when the state NYSC officials and corps members conducted a sanitation exercise in the community, observed that continuous sensitisation of the masses would help to achieve cleaner environment and health among the populace.

According to him, “If people are well educated on this, they would surely imbibe the habit of keeping their environments and selves clean. You won’t have to remind them before they embark on it. They won’t have to wait for any special day to do that. It will be a routine exercise as long as they are alive or eat.”

Also speaking, the Transition Committee Chairman, Anaocha Local Government Area, Mr Patrick Onyedum, represented by Mr. Benson Igwemadu, a councillor representing Neni Ward I, commended the NYSC for carrying out the exercise in the council area, assuring that they would keep promoting sanitation among the populace.

Earlier, the Director General, NYSC, Brig. Gen. Shuiabu Ibrahim, who flagged the exercise, identified environmental sanitation as one of the requirements for prevention of diseases and their escalation to epidemic level.

Ibrahim, represented by the State Coordinator, NYSC, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, took the corps members and other officials of the scheme on sanitation exercise at Oye Neni, Neni Town hall and other places, and called for efforts to be stepped up to enlighten the public especially rural dwellers on health risks of poor hygiene with a focus on prevention of contamination of food, water and the entire environment.

“The theme of this programme is clean environment/good hygiene: panacea for good health and long life…it may interest you to know that during the nationwide medical outreaches recently conducted on the platform of the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD), most of the ailments diagnosed and treated were as a result of poor hygiene. They include chronic diarrhea, dental caries (tooth decay) head/body lice, ringworm, dysentery, typhoid, polio, scabies trachoma, Hepatitis A and malaria, amongst others,” he stated.

Speaking in an interview, a corps member who participated on the environmental sanitation exercise, Miss Dorcas Abode, said she would take the sensitisation campaign even after her service year, while a trader, Mrs Amaka Okoye, adviced government to provide rural communities and markets with waste bin and refuse sites.

PoliticsAnambra 2021: PDP Mobilizes Nigerians To Recover Seized Case File by okeychris(op): 10:34pm On Jul 22, 2021
Press Statement

July 22, 2021

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) invites Nigerians to call out Justice O.A Nwabunike of the Anambra state High Court, for, again refusing to release the case file as well as copies of his perverted judgment on the Sen. Ugochukwu Uba Vs PDP & Ors.

The party describes as vexatious that, upon resumption of court activities today, Justice Nwabunike, remained adamant in withholding the documents, all in his desperate bid to frustrate and distract the PDP and its candidate, in the Anambra state governorship election, Valentine Ozigbo.

The party asserts that the deviltries of the judge, in seizing the documents is aimed at frustrating the notices of appeal filed by the PDP and her candidate against his aberrant judgment, knowing that such black-market judgement cannot stand in appeal.

Our party cautions Justice Nwabunike not to continue to test the will of the generality of the people of Anambra, whose mandate, being expressed in our candidate, Valentine Ozigbo, is being undermined, as such may trigger serious crisis in the state.

It is indeed indefensible, that a court judge is bent at causing crisis in Anambra state and we call on Nigerians and the people of Anambra to hold Justice Nwabunike directly responsible should there be any breakdown of law and order in the state.

In any case, the PDP asserts that it will not be deterred or distracted by Justice Nwabunike and an individual, who did not even participate in our primary, as they cannot stop the people of Anambra state and our candidate, Valentine Ozigbo, from emerging victorious in the election.

PoliticsAnambra 2021: Mixed Reactions Trail INEC List Of Guber Candidates by okeychris(op): 11:58pm On Jul 16, 2021
By Okechukwu Onuegbu
Awka

Mixed reactions have trailed the lists of gubernatorial candidates and their deputies (running-mates) published on Friday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Anambra State 2021 November 6 poll.

The list showed that the state ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji as candidate of the party instead of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo been rooted by Governor Willie Obiano and some of his kitchen cabinets.

It also contained the name of former aide to erstwhile President Olusegun Obasanjo, Senator Andy Uba as standard flag bearer for the All Progressive Congress (APC), despite the agitations from some aspirants and stakeholders of the party in the state. It, however, left the column for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) vacant with an inscription "Court Order", thereby excluding both factional candidates of the party, Mr Valentine Ozigbo and Senator Ugochukwu Uba.

Also on the list were Accord, Mr Alex Nwankwo; Action Alliance (AA), Barr. Mrs Doreen Ifeoma Maduka-Arisa; Africa Action Congress (AAC), Mr Obi Chukwudozie; African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo; Action Democratic Party (ADP); Chief Afam Ume-Ezeoke; and Allied People's Movement (APM), Mr Eze Robinson Chukwuma.

Others were Action People's Party (APP), Mr Azubuike Echetebu; Boot Party, Mr Okeke Chika Jerry; Labour Party (LP), Obiora Agbasimelo; National Rescue Movement (NRM), Lady Uchenna Adaobi Okpeke; New Nigerian People's Party (NNPP), Sir Emeka Ohajimkpo; People's Redemption Party (PRP), Chief Nnamdi Nwawuo; Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Arinze Ekelem; Young Progressive Party (YPP), Senator Ifeanyi Ubah; and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Chief Uche Ugwuoji.

The publication elicited jubilations from all the political parties flag bearers that made the list, while the camps of their opponents expressed shocks over the development, vowing to fight back to get justice.

Addressing his teeming supporters in Awka, the candidate of APGA, Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji, hailed INEC for hearkening to court order that upheld his candidature, even as he extended hands of fellowship to other aspirants.

Umeoji, who currently represents Aguata Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber, thanked governor Obiano (the BOT Chairman of APGA), the National party leadership led by Chief Jude Okeke, and others, assuring that he would run an open door policy if elected as governor, continue and complete the projets initiated by the outgoing government, among other things.

However, Soludo Support Group (SSG), a political pressure group canvassing for election of the ex-CBN boss as Anambra State governor, which incidentally, inaugurated chapters across all higher institutions in Nigeria, same time, said they were confident that their principal would still replace Umeoji.

Speaking to our reporter, Prof. Chinwuba Arinze, the Coordinator of All Higher Institutions for Soludo, said although they were schocked by the news but it won't stop aspiration of their principal because he has appealed it.

Arinze, who said they have students, academia and others as members, added that the development was a mere distraction which would not last a test of time, and urged their members to go about canvassing votes for their principal.

At Senator Andy Uba's campaign office in Awka, our correspondent saw his supporters also jubilating but was told the candidate was not around to grant him interview as at press time, while none of the PDP and APC stalwarts contacted was willing to speak at the moment.
CrimeCourt Arraigns Anambra Man For Allegedly Impersonating Monarch On Internet by okeychris(op): 10:18pm On Jul 15, 2021
By Okey Okey

A Federal High Court 1 sitting in Awka, Anambra State, presided over by Justice Hyeladzira Ajiya Nganjiwa, has remanded an Abuja based businessman, Chief Dennis Ezebuilo, in the police custody over an alleged impersonation as a traditional ruler and incitement.

Ezebuilo, who was arraigned on three count charges in a case between him as a defendant and the Inspector General of Police as Complainant, allegedly committed the offence against the Traditional Ruler of his community, Amanuke, Awka North Local Government Area (LGA) HRH Igwe Alphonsus Ezebuilo on December 31 and December 19, 2019.

Count one reads “That you Dennis Ezebuilo ‘m’ on or about the 31st day of December, 2019 at Amanuke in Awka North LGA of Anambra State within the jurisdiction of this court did unlawfully and with intent to promote inter communal war incites some members of Amanuke community into believing you as His Royal Highness (Ogbodudu II) of the community by bringing division amongst the entire Amanuke community thereby commits an offence punishable under Section 42 of the Criminal Code Act, Cap C38 laws of the Federation, 2004.”

Count two reads “That you Dennis Ezebuilo ‘m’ on or about the 19th day of December, 2019 at Amanuke in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State within the jurisdiction of this court unlawfully claims to be the legitimate traditional ruler of Amanuke community as against the decision of the Anambra State government and further incites some class of persons against the legitimately recognised Traditional Ruler of the community, His Royal Highness Igwe Alphonsus Ezebuilo and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 42 of the Criminal Code Act, Cap C38 laws of the federation, 2004.”

Count three reads “That you Dennis Ezebuilo ‘m’ on or about the 19 day of December 2019 at Amanuke in Awka North LGA of Anambra State within the jurisdiction of this court did unlawfully impersonate as His Royal Highness (Ogbodudu II) of Amanuke community, knowing it to be false and puts as such via Internet and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 42 of the Criminal Code Act, Cap C38 laws of the Federation, 2004.”

But the defendant, Chief Ezebuilo, who is a cousin to the monarch pleaded not guilty to all the three charges brought against him and was remanded to the police custody as pleaded by his Counsel, Mr Okechukwu Otukwu.

The prosecuting counsel, Mr Marvelous Ezeakonobi from Force Headquarters, Abuja, earlier applied that the defendant be remanded in the Nigeria Correctional center, due to the nature of his case but it was not granted.

The honourable justice of the court, Hyeladzira Ajiya Nganjiwa, also adjourned the case to July 22 to enable the counsel to the defendant file necessary documents having rejected an oral application for bail of the defendant.

Speaking in an interview, the traditional ruler of Amanuke, HRH Alphonsus Ezebuilo, said he sought justice from the court because Anambra State Government duly certified him as Igwe on July 12, 2015 and was congratulated by his cousin (the defendant) only for him to later start paying claim to the throne.

“I have been enduring him since because he is my relation. I decided to tame him with law because he is getting out of hand. If I don’t do anything it will look as if I am the one conniving with him. He goes about parading himself as Igwe even when he’s not. If you Google the Igwe of Amanuke, his name would appear. There is an event holding this month by one association which he is also invited as Igwe Amanuke. This is the same man that congratulated me after I received my certificate of recognition as Igwe Amanuke,” he stated.

Also speaking, Mr Paul Enemou, the former President General (PG) of Amanuke, under whose tenure Igwe Ezebuilo was crowned in 2014, said it was carried out in accordance with the community’s constitution and that of Anambra State Chieftaincy and Town Union law, and duly recognised by both Awka North LGA and Anambra State.

PoliticsADC Consulting Widely To Get Most Credible Deputy Governor For Anambra 2021 by okeychris(op): 8:18pm On Jul 08, 2021
By Okechukwu Onuegbu

African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said it is still consulting widely with stakeholders  to get a formidable Anambra State Gubernatorial team that will meet up with the yearnings and aspirations of the people with a view to bringing great progress and development to the state. The party made this view known yesterday as a Havard-trained entrepreneur and 2011 Forbes' Youngest Most Powerful Women in Africa, Mrs Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli announced  her unavailability to participate in the race for the Deputy Governorship race on the party's platform.
The media have been awash that  Nwuneli was among ten  outstanding personalities consulted by the party to participate as running mate to ADC's  Governorship candidate for the November 6, 2021 election.  Investigation by our correspondent, showed that Mrs Nwuneli  has opted out of the race, but has wished the party well in its endeavour to capture the state's Government House and improvedl on the lots of the masses.

Confirming the indisposition of Nwuneli to accept the offer to seek for the running mate position ,  National Director of Communications and Programs of ADC,   Ifenla Oligbinde, a lawyer,  denied the report in the media that bthr party had lobbied and had ten contenders jostling for the Deputy Governorship position. In a press statement issued by the party's image maker, a copy of which was made available to newsmen, yesterday,  Ifenla clarified: "No one has, or will ever lobby or jostle for the Deputy Governor slot in ADC, it is not our style."

The statement noted that though  the party's Head of Search Team in the person of the National Chairman, Chief Ralphs Okey Nwosu had reached out to many credible personalities to show accept the offer to run, but Mrs. Nwuneli declined to accept the offer and wished the party well.  The party's image maker observed that the Head of Search Team, and National Chairman,         Chief Okey Nwosu, in expression of his passion for Anambra State and good governance and commitment to pull the best amongst Anambra youths and persons into governance to give the state its best chance for development, had consulted widely to have persons considered of impeccable character in absolute privacy and confidentiality.

But she asserted: "No one has, or will ever lobby or jostle for the Deputy Governor slot in ADC, it is not our style. We have a value-driven protocol that guides our processes."

Ifenla disclosef that, for the forthcoming Anambra Elections, "there are certain parameters needed to balance the team to be presented for the elections, pointing out that consultations are still ongoing in preparation for the final screening of a candidate.       "Whilst it is true that our search team reached out to many persons including Mrs. Ndidi Nwuneli, none of them were or are 'jostling' to be Deputy Governor.

"ADC is known to have transparency and integrity in her DNA as was seen in the emergence of our gubernatorial candidate, Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo, in the most peaceful and credible electoral process.

"The same process will be adopted again, as ADC is 'not for sale' or known for 'money bags' rancorous approach, as is currently being witnessed in other political parties that ought to lead by example. "

On November 6, 2021, electorate in Anambra State would elect a successor to governor Willie Obiano whose tenure ends on March 17, 2022. Obiano who is of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) is surely rooting for his party to retain the seat.

Other political parties are equally working to grab the seat through democratic means. Seventeen out of the eighteen registered political in the country would participate in the November poll having concluded their gubernatorial primary between June 25 to July 1st deadline stated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). They are APGA, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressive Congress (APC), Action Alliance (AA), Young Progressive Party (YPP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord (A) and Action People’s Party (APP).

Others are Nation Rescue Movement (NRM), Action Democratic Party (ADP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Labour Party (LP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and African Action Congress (AAC).

However, the just concluded governorship primary was riddled with issues ranging from court cases, parallel elections, claims and counter claims among different political parties. The ruling APGA, specifically, produced three governorship candidates from its three factional National and States Executives.

Chief Victor Oye led APGA which is where governor Obiano pitched interest, elected the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo as flag bearer. Chief Edozie Njoku emerged gubernatorial candidate of his own faction, while Chief Jude Okeke’s APGA produced the member representing Aguata Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji, as a governorship candidate.

Interestingly, Umeoji and Soludo are from the same Aguata Local Government Area (LGA) in Anambra State, while Njoku is from Imo state although he has was born in Onitsha, and has been playing active politics in Onitsha North and South LGAs. The fate of the three factions are in the hands of court which is where their battles have been shifted as INEC plans to publish names of candidates for the poll.

There are also two other political parties in the same fold; although with two factions each. They are People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Action Alliance (AA). PDP in a parallel gubernatorial primary produced Mr Valentine Ozigbo and Senator Ugochukwu Uba as candidates. Ozigbo emerged in a primary conducted by the National officers of the party led by Prince Uche Secondus, while Uba is the brainchild of Chukwudi Umeaba state faction of PDP loyal to Chief Chris Uba, acclaimed political godfather.

Similarly, AA produced Barr. Mrs Doreen Ifeoma Maduka-Arisa, and Mr John Ikeotuonye as parellel candidates. Maduka-Arisa is the sister of Dr Godwin Maduka, a guber aspirant of the PDP who scored five votes in the election conducted by Secondus faction. The National Chairman of AA, Hon. Adekunle Rufai Omoaje conducted the election where she was pronounced a sole candidate, just as Mr James Vernimbe, who introduced himself as the National Secretary of AA officiated the election of Ikeotuonye.

Other political parties participating in the forthcoming election with one candidate each are All Progressive Congress (APC), Senator Andy Uba; Young Progressive Party (YPP), Senator Ifeanyi Ubah; African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo; Action People’s Party (APP), Mr Azubuike Echetebu; and the National Rescue Movement (NRM), Lady Uchenna Adaobi Okpeke.

There are also Action Democratic Party (ADP), Chief Afam Ume-Ezeoke; the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Arinze Ekelem; the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Chief Nnamdi Nwanwuo; Labour Party (LP), Chief Obiora Agbasimelo; Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Chief Uche Ugwuoji; the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Sir Emeka Ohajimkpo; Accord Party (A), Mr Alex Nwankwo; and African Action Congress (AAC), Mr Obi Sylvester Chukwudozie.

It’s observed that majority of these candidates are from Anambra South, the Senatorial Zone agitating that it was its turn to govern Anambra. Anambra South comprises of seven Council Areas namely Aguata, Ekwusigo, Orumba North, Orumba South, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ihiala. Five of them namely, Aguata, Orumba South, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ihiala LGAs have strong candidates in the gubernatorial poll.

The two factional candidates of APGA are from Aguata LGA, just as the two factional candidates of PDP and that of APC. In fact, Senator Andy Uba of APC, Senator Ugochukwu Uba of PDP, and leader of the faction that produced him, Chief Chris Uba are siblings (brothers from the same mother and father) from Uga, which is close to Amesi town where Valentine Ozigbo hails from. Soludo is son of Isuofia town while Umeoji hails from Ezinifite (Ezinifite-Aguata). This same Aguata LGA produced the first civilian governor of Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife (January 1992 to November 1993), an indigene of Igbo-Ukwu town.

Similarly, Nnewi North has Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of YPP, while the candidate of Labour Party, Obiora Agbasimelo is from Ezinifite (Ezinifite-Nnewi) in Nnewi South LGA. The former Acting governor of Anambra State, Dame Virgy Etiaba who held sway between November 2006 to February 2007 is from Nnewi Town, Nnewi North LGA like Ubah.

Ihiala LGA, Okija town, precisely is home-town of Akachukwu Nwankpo, the ADC standard flag bearer. This council area is also home to the former governor of Anambra state, Dr Chinweoke Mbadinuju (1999 to 2003).

Relatively, Orumba South LGA is most likely to have Dr Godwin Maduka, an American based medical doctor in the ballot. Maduka is from Umuchukwu. Even though he didn’t make it in PDP primary, last week Saturday, he told his teeming supporters in Awka that he would still participate in the election and ‘win’ whether PDP gives him ticket or not. It was gathered that his younger sister, Barr. Doreen Ifeoma Maduka-Arisa is the factional candidate of AA, while his media aide, Mr Alex Nwankwo is the candidate of Accord (A) party. Political analysts believed that one of these two candidates would have their names substituted with Dr Maduka’s name before the election, while the other would collapse structure in his support.

However, despite the agitations by stakeholders from the Anambra South that all political parties should thrown in candidates from the zone, some of the Governorship candidates are from Anambra Central and Anambra North Senatorial zones respectively. Among them are Mr Obi Chukwudozie of AAC, Azubuike Echetebu of APP and Chief Uche Ugwuoji of ZLP (Anambra Central), and Chief Nnamdi Nwawuo of PRP (Anambra North). The candidates would be affected by the clamour for zoning in the main election.

Anambra Central comprising seven LGAs such as Anaocha, Awka North, Awka South, Dunukofia, Idemili North, Idemili South, and Njikoka, had former governors Chris Ngige (2003 to 2006) and Peter Obi (2006 to 2014). Also, Anambra North is where the incumbent governor Willie Obiano hails from. The zone includes Anambra East, Anambra West, Ayamelum, Ogbaru, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, and Oyi Local government areas.

All eyes are in Anambra state as the 2021 gubernatorial poll draws closer. .

Nwankpo emerges ADC guber candidate as party cautions President Buhari on rearrested IPOB leader

The National Chairman, African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, Wednesday, urged President Muhammadu Buhari led federal government to apply international processes and protocols in dealing with the matters of rearrested Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was rearrested and incalcirated to Nigeria after about four years of jumping bail, according to the statement from Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of Federation.

Nwosu made the call at Awka, the Anambra state capital, during the state Governorship primary of the party won by Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo. Nwankpo emerged as sole candidate of ADC after over 7000 delegates of the party voted for him.

Nwosu said "I advise President Muhammadu Buhari to regard this development as a significant milestone in nation and peace building in a diverse country like ours. The government must not fail to show valued act of statecraft that posits Nigeria as a discplined and responsible Democratic nation.

"There are established international processes and protocols for dealing with the matters. In all, the citizen's rights and privileged must be accorded Nnamdi Kanu. Ndigbo, Nigerians and the world are watching. Also, I must say that the adverse performance of the APC and President Buhari government in dealing with our diversity as a country have created deluge of challenges for all.

"The military, police, state securities and intelligence organs are overstretched, depressed and demoralised because of the failings of our political leaders. The president, governors and legislators are all in the same rotten tomato basket. The symptoms are the insecurity, poverty, unemployment, youth restiveness and ethnic militia and agitations rocking the country.

"Our country has become almost irrelevant in international circuit and even to ourselves. Many concerned leaders have been calling for national conversation. Kanu is now in the country. Igboho and others are around. I therefore, call on President Buhari to seize this moment and call for National Dialogue for the sake of our country, now and generations to come."

Earlier, the ADC governorship candidate, Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo, promised to provide robust security in the state, revitalise agriculture, infrastructure development and others.

PoliticsEzeemo: Has PDP Missed An Opportunity To Govern Anambra? by okeychris(op): 2:21pm On Jun 30, 2021
By Okechukwu Nwoyemezie

Has People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State missed an opportunity to govern Anambra on March 17, 2022, when the incumbent Gov. Willie Obiano would expectedly vacate office? Last week Saturday, the opposition party produced two governorship candidates due to a parallel gubernatorial primary held in Awka following counter court injunctions.

In a primary poll organised by the PDP National Executives using Super or automatic delegates lists, Mr Valentine Ozigbo emerged flag bearer, while Chief Chris Uba faction produced his elder brother, Senator Ugochukwu Uba as a candidate. Interestingly, both are from Aguata LGA just as the candidates of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and All Progressive Congress (APC). Aguata is in Anambra South Senatorial zone whose turn it is to govern Anambra in the spirit of zoning.

Obviously, either of the two is qualified and capable of governing Anambra State. But are they the light Anambrarians are yearning for? Do they have the midas touch? Are they with the relevant followership needed by the PDP to defeat candidates of other political parties? In fact, would PDP get it right this time?

The above questions are germane given the calibres of people that participated in the governorship primary. Among them are Mr Godwin Chukwunenye Ezeemo, Dr Godwin Maduka, Dr Obiora Okonkwo, Senator Ugochukwu Uba, and Senator Uche Ekwunife.

Mr Godwin Chukwunenye Ezeemo is one aspirant among these 'great aspirants', all eyes were focusing on. First, he was the first to declare interest for the PDP flag to govern Anambra. Ezeemo marched his words with action by producing basic infrastructure including an Air-conditioning bus worth over 40 million Naira, and other logistics for smooth running of the party affairs from the 326 electoral wards to the state level.

Ezeemo is also a philanthropist, who had touched many lives across the country via his pet project, Charity Ezeemo Foundation. He has been a philanthropist from childhood; not because of politics. This is probably why he is so blessed. He transformed his community, Umuchu to London; having provided them with basic amenities aside bringing the world into it through his companies sited in the town.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Catholic, the Anglicans and penticostals cannot forget how this down-to-earth man provided them with gigantic edifices as Secretariat, and places of worships. What of youth, orphans, widows, the less privileged, schools, and organisations? None of them would ever forget Ezeemo's kind gesture. He entrusted them with skills and other opportunities as they demanded for individually and collectively. So, he does not discriminate. It is this kind of man that Anambra people need to govern them because he would make sure that whoever is qaulified for anything in the state gets it no matter the religion or the organisation such a person belongs. Therefore, all these people would have voted for him if he was allowed to fly PDP ticket.

Again, Ezeemo has all his companies headquarted in Anambra State. These include Orient Farm, Haulage, Orient Printing press, Orient Daily newspapers, Orient Energy Magazine, Orient Mega FM, Life table water, among others; all known as Orient Group of Companies. Some are sited at Awka, the state capital, while others are at his country-home, Umuchu, Aguata LGA. There is no single town in Anambra State whose son or daughter has not worked with these companies. Some towns have up to four of their children still working in these companies comfortably. There are also other staff from across the thirty-six states and capitals, and beyond. These employees who are voters in Anambra State would have mobilised their kits and kins to vote for Ezeemo in the main election if he was handed over with the PDP ticket.

Similarly, Ezeemo, been an entrepreneur and industrialist, has experience in all sectors of the economy. Is it on Agriculture, mass media, manufacturing, arts and culture, or what? He has industries majoring in all these. So, it would be easier for him to attract foreign and local investors to the state in a twinkle of an eye. This is why PDP should have considered him for the number one seat. These skills and connections are what Anambra people need now!!!

Similarly, Ezeemo has good manifestoes and camping strategies. He plays a politics without bitterness. That is why throughout the electioneering campaign and beyond, he did not step on any ones toe. Hence, he was and remains acceptable and accessible to all the aspirants.

Ezeemo meant well for Ndi Anambra. And should have been allowed to change the Anambra state for good. There is still opportunity for the party to make an amend, probably through substitution of candidate. Yes! They can do it to get it right this time if possible! It would even be good in order to reach a consensus candidate to be presented to INEC and Ndi Anambra. They can do it to win the heart of Anambra state again!!!

PoliticsADC Sets To Clinch Anambra 2021 As Nwankpo Got Screened by okeychris(op): 9:06am On Jun 30, 2021
By Okechukwu Onuegbu

All is now set for the 2021 governorship primary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Anambra State chapter.

ADC, a party with difference, has Chief Akachukwu Nwankpo, as a top contender to the primary holding in Awka, today, Wednesday.

The party's National Chairman, Chief Okey Nwosu, has assured that the poll would be free and fair as the party was poised to dislodge APGA from the state helms of affairs.

Nwosu, who appraised the quality of aspirants of the party especially Chief Nwankpo, described his party as the well positioned due to its integrity and general acceptance.
The winner of the primary shall fly the party ticket to face candidates of other political parties.

A governorship aspirant of the party, Chief Akachukwu Nwankpo, while thanking the party for its honesty and thorough, assured that with him as a flag bearer, victory to Agu Awka is sure.

Nwankpo, who stated this in Awka after been screened to participate on the ADC Governorship Primary holding on Wednesday, said that ADC is party that holds to its integrity and sincerity of purpose, which according to him, had endeared it to the hearts of electorate.

According to the erstwhile aid to former President Goodluck Jonathan, the ADC attributes were among the reasons he decided to join the party after been unfairly disqualified by the APGA which paved way for emergence of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo at the primary.

"The national chairman of my party, ADC, Chief Okey Nwosu is a man that has an amazing reputation for being man that holds on those things that I believe is needed in Anambra State which is integrity, purpose, and focus," he added.

On why he believes ADC would win the poll despite been run for APGA for over 16 years, he said that " Anambra is a very unique state. All political parties serve the people of Anambra state."
