@ verse 18 of the same chapter we read:

"No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him"

So is the word GOD or someone beside GOD?

This verse simply refers to the only begotten son of God which is JESUS CHRIST..the WORD simply is JESUS CHRIST..He has been in existence even before the world was created..
