POLITICSNIGERIA.COM The Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar is a 'Tribal Jingoist'. Tinubu's comment is coming a day after footage of Atiku campaigning in the North went viral on social media. The Adamawa born politician was heard telling Party faithful that the North does not need a Yoruba or an Igbo President only a Northern one. The video has drawn widespread condemnation. Tinubu, in a statement on Sunday, signed by his Director, Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, added that Atiku's 'Tribalism' was the reason why the PDP was in crisis. He stated that Atiku has refused to persuade the national chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu to resign because he is also from the North. The PDP's zoning arrangement stipulates that if the Party chairman is from the North, the Presidential candidate will come from the South. This is the reason why Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike alongside 4 other governors have refused to participate in Atiku's campaign. The statement read; "The statement of Peoples Democratic Party's presidential candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku to the effect that Northerners don't need a Yoruba or Igbo president is the worst expression of ethnocentric opportunism ever uttered by a former Nigerian Vice President." "This clearly demonstrates how low a man honoured with the second highest office of the Nigerian Constitution is willing to sink in search of a perennial wild goose chase after the highest office in the land. It confirms the argument that Atiku has feasted on such base, cheap, primordial sentiments to use the masses and the elite of the North as the ladder to ascend to power since 1989 without any dividends to show." "Doubling down in his now infamous speech, Atiku said: “What the average Northerner needs is somebody who is from the north and also understands that part of the country and has been able to build bridges across the country." “This is what the Northerner needs, it doesn’t need a Yoruba or Igbo candidate. I stand before you as a Pan-Nigerian of northern origin.” "In clear terms, Atiku who stole the PDP ticket, by a similar mindset, has cast himself as a northern candidate, who should solely be supported by the people from his region. He also lived in his personal house and drove his personal car throughout his 9.Built the Lagos State House of Assembly complex. 10.Built the Lagos State Television 11.Established General Hospital in zones all over the state with assurance of free health care. 12.Established Teacher Training College and the College of Education. 13.Built low cost houses in Ijaiye, Dolphin, Oke-Afa, Ije, Abesan, Iponri, Ipaja, Abule Nla, Epe, Amuwo-Odofin, Anikantamo, Surulere, Iba, Ikorodu, Badagry, Isheri/Olowu, Orisigun etc. 14.Established the Water Management Board and Waste Disposal Board on the 18th of August, 1980. 15.Constructed the Adiyan Water Works to increase water supply in the state to 18.16 million litres per day. 16.Modernized and expanded the Iju Water Works which was first commissioned in 1915. This increased daily capacity from 159 million to 204 million litres per day. 17.Purchased and commissioned the giant car crusher equipment. The equipment was designed specifically to crush derelict vehicles in Lagos State. It had the capacity to crush 45 vehicles per day. 18.Constructed, rehabilitated and resurfaced Epe/Ijebu-Ode Road, Oba Akran Avenue, Toyin Street, Town Planning Way, Alimosho-Idimu-Egbe Road, Idimu-Iba-LASU Road, the new secretariat road and several others. 19.Constructed Victoria Island/Epe Road . 20.Established an Asphalt Plant for the Department of Public Works. 21.Established the Electricity Board for Rural Electrification with provision of street lights. 22.Modernized, expanded and commissioned Onikan Stadium 23.Raised the primary school numbers in Lagos State to 812 with 533,001 pupils (against 605 primary schools with 434,545 pupils he met in 1979) and secondary schools to 223 with 167,629 students (against 105 schools with 107,835 students in 1979). 24.Constructed 11, 729 classrooms with the maximum of 40 children per class between March and August 1980, by 1983, he had constructed over 22,000 classrooms. 25. In July 1983, two commercial passenger boats christened “Baba Kekere and Itafaji” to run the Mile 2 – Marina (CMS) route via the lagoons were inaugurated by his government to mark the official launch of the Lagos State ferry services. 26.Took over the ownership and financing of Lagos State Printing Corporation in July 1980 . 27.Established the first State Traffic Management Authority (Road Marshals). 28.Established the small scale Industries Credit Scheme which preceded the EKO bank. 29.Established LASACO Insurance. 30.Expanded existing markets and built new ones. 31Established the Traditional Medicine Board. 32.Plus Mini Water works that had neighbourhoods like Solu and Bariga enjoying pipe-bourne water for the first time. 33.
