According to the Aburi Accord if implemented, every region would be a country of it own in a larger country which meant that you would not have others from other regions infringing on your "sovereignty", you can create your laws unique to your people and effectively manage your resources without outside intervention. What this meant was that,

1. We would not have a Quota system where, the less educated folks are more at an advantaged position against the hard-working other.
2. We would be totally autonomous, each region would have its own police (which would equate to better security), laws, governance, manage its own resources.
3. We would have been a true federating unit.
4. If nothing, the accord would prove that no single man absolutely represents the claims and whims of any group in Nigeria.

One thing about history is that, once a mistake is made at some point, it has consequences moving forward. For example, the Nepotism you are suffering today in not being able to secure a federal position based on merit is a historical consequence of this "coward rebel's" idea not being implemented as it was agreed at Aburi. One "chest-beating, coward rebel's" region was able to say no! and stand up against the north's continuous grasp on federal power and a system of institutional tribalism.
