Thanks for the insightful piece Sir. Indeed Ireland, and European countries in general, are very critical with the truth. Welcome to Ireland.
ExpressBooking:
Good afternoon everyone on this thread.

I guess u all know my story here. Well it all ended in praises after 14 months of visa application. We applied for Employment and Join family visas since July xxth, 2019. Visa was approved by the 2nd week of March 2020,but the Abuja embassy made a turn around and said they were investigating a TZ visa, entry and exit stamps on my passport and they don't know how long it will take. Thankfully the verification was successful after a very long time and we received the visas after 14 months of visa application.

There were frustrations and lessons learnt but I will summarize all in few sentences.

1. Thou shalt never show desperation to Irish Embassy.

2. Thou shalt not present any questionable or unverifiable documents for your visa application

3. Thou shalt not lie in any manner in ur application or in the build up to it

4. Thou shalt wear patience as a cloth and have faith as a virtue.

5. Thou shalt go to ur God in prayers. (Against the village people, cos truly they are at work)

6. Please and please if you are going to come with ur family, and have an adopted child, please exclude the child in the application or try to register the adoption with the adoption authority of Ireland before ur visa application, else you are in for a long thing. This made the Irish embassy Abuja request a DNA test from my family and myself. And it's not just a regular DNA test, it's at a designated laboratory by the embassy and in our case a lab in the UK and sample collection took place at IOM Lagos with an embassy representative present.

7. Never accept any visa or stamps to be placed on ur passport by proxy whether it is to disvirgin the passport or not, no matter how much u trust the person. It will ruin your application and a visa ban will follow.

8. Because Ireland pays child support for children and free education for every child, they are very critical when it comes to children and applications with children.

Thanks be to God that it all ended in praise for us. We have arrived Ireland safely and look forward to our next adventure of life. The weather is very cold here.

For all those still hopeful, God will help you all as we will join you all in prayers.

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you, it was really a long wait. Don't worry international flights should resume soon, we are in stage 2 of the lockdown reopening and the reopening calender has been moved forward by a month from mid August to mid July. Flights across Europe are scheduled to resume from 1st of July I'm sure Africa and Nigeria will plan based on that. It's so good to finally know that you will be reunited with your wife soon, it's only a matter of time. Congratulations once again and welcome to Ireland.

All you people haven't been as patient as me oooh. My visa application has been since 24th July 2019, Just the week in which visa was approved in March 2020, Lockdown due to Covid-19 took over and I have been here since patiently waiting

Experienced people here greetings.

Remember our Irish visa Application case since July 24th 2019, the emabssy in Abuja contacted us on 20th January 2020 and requested for a DNA confirmation test for my family, which was done and submitted by 17th February 2020. They acknowledged the receipt of the test results on 18th February 2020 and said the decision on the visa application will come by end of next week(the week ended today 28th February 2020), But as I type this email there has been no response whatsoever

Applying to any of the EU 27 is almost 100% guaranteed, including schengen nations as a student visitor. UK visit is quite straightforward well, as a student. I'm not sure about work but think you can work in any of the EU countries with a stamp 4 Ireland Visa (someone else might want to shed more light in this as I've not personally researched on it). Visiting other counteies as a student here is easy though, it's all about money.

Good course.... I'm actually surprised. I'll advice he jeeps applying. These things are not automatic anywhere in the world, even back home in Nigeria you need to struggle to get jobs. Good day everyone. It's good to see the goods news of visa issued have started rolling in. To those that were denied, please appeal ASAP (cost of your first appeal is covered by the visa payment). I've been offline for a while, I had to Take time off to finish up my assignments and write my exams. Thank God first semester has ended, unto the next one. For those yet to arrive here is a list of stuffs i think would be helpful

1. First thing to buy when you land is a good jacket. I'll suggest you buy here since it's their weather and they know what needs to be done to keep you warm.
2. Hold enough money. Yes you'll get a job if you plan to, but it's not immediate. There are documentations you need to do before you can be allowed to work. Meanwhile you'll need money to run your daily life. It's no longer news that Dublin is expensive, you do not want to be stranded here. In my case it took two months before I started work (it's just a guideline, yours could be earlier or later)
3. Apply for your GNIB and PPS appointments ASAP
4. When you finally start working make sure you put your academics first. I see lots of people, especially Indians, miss classes because of work. They tend to struggle during the course and end up with bad grades, except you're a genius sha. Bad grades leads to difficulty in getting a good job after. Studies first.
5. When you resume classes pay attention. Trust me the attention you give in the first few classes will determine how well you'll be settled in the course. It would help you get a good understanding of what the course is about. Trust me, you need this
6. Try to come with plenty food stuffs. Like I said, Ireland is expensive especially Dublin. You do not want to add eating out to your bills. If you don't know how to cook, learn now. Lol
7. Houses are expensive but are available. Contrary to the popular believe that houses are difficult to find, they are not. You only need to look at the right places. I agree it may be difficult for first timers though. In the mean time, you can book a temporary accommodation like an hostel while you search for something permanent.
8. Ask questions. There are loads if stuffs that can make your life easier but you would not know unless you ask. Don't be shy, they say "who ask direction for road no dey miss road".

If any other thing comes to mind I'll had it. I wish everybody a safe trip and best of luck to the ones still expecting the good news . Cheers

Can I use my naija card to pay for gnib registration
TravelRe: GENERAL Irish (student)visa & Work Permit-New THREAD*** by olajimii: 1:03am On Dec 05, 2019
You can carry as much as equivalent of 10k dollars cash. You can then open a bank account here once you're done settling down. To open a bank account you need a residential address and a letter of introduction from your school. In most cases you would not get the letter of introduction until you can prove you have a permanent home address. You can't just walk into most banks to open an account (Them no even plenty), especially in Dublin, you need to book an appointment and it takes at least a week after your appointment to get your account opened. The good news though,
In my case, my gt bank master card still works on pos systems here. I use it to pay bills and get charged at standard Nigeria rate.
Chiggsglover:
For those of us that's going this January, how do you intend to go, personally, I'm thinking of qatar airline, on the 7th Jan, love their fare and rating.

And how do we take cash there? The Gt Dom account is funny, it can't be operated outside naira, they said I have to withdraw dollars over the counter. Though I have a mastercard. I feel there must be a cheaper way, in my experiences with Canada thread, those guys carry almost their entire fund by cash then they open their account.

I've read this thread from the beginning and this issue wasn't clear.
Pls I need your input for those with experiences

Icasng, olajimi, and rest of you guys that conquered this feat.

Bros people just use that word 'research' loosely these days. Both countries are good and that's the truth. Your preferences could make you pick either yes. But whichever one you decide to go for has the 'enabling environment' to help you achieve your dreams. I know first hand that there are loads of jobs in Ireland and even more companies are coming in daily. The country has the lowest cooperate tax in Europe, has a department in charge of grants for entrepreneurs and start ups. Yes it's expensive but that's only in Dublin, same as it's expensive to live in London, New York or any developed country's capital. Ireland has a buoyant and diverse economy, for a country of about 4.7M people to be competing with countries like UK, Germany, France tells you all you need to know. But like I said even if nah Poland you decide to go just make good use of the opportunities available to you. Cheers.
wealthmiq:
Researcher Yeah? What was your research methodology? Who where your sample population? and what was your sampling method? What technique did you use for data collection? And what technique of data analysis did you use to interpret your data and arrive at your findings to prove your hypothesis right or wrong? How did you make this selection? What procedures did you take to ensure your findings where void of 5% error? Don't throw that verifiable fact thing at me cause nothing is verifiable there as far as i am concerned and i will not dogmatically accept your claims.

The school does not need your Visa page for anything. They already have a way of knowing when visa is granted to a student that applied to them. She needs it for the obvious reason you stated. I'll say, if you decide to send it, cover your details yourself. You could also tell her the reason you did so, that would help her with future clients. It's important to protect the privacy of her clients and she needs to start doing that. Congratulations.
Amiablekeezy:
Hello everyone. My name is kayode. I got visa to study in TCD last month. School starts in January.

Pls I need help. After getting visa, will the school request for a copy? My agent said I should send a copy to her since last month that the school wants to see it. I don't want to give her cos she sends other clients documents and visa page to me without covering their details.

She doesn't protect the privacy of her clients. I feel she only needs a copy to include in her portfolio.

Pls advice me, have been posting her since November but she's not letting me to rest.

Pls kindly give an advice. Thanks

The edu bond covers your proof of living expenses, the additional 1M transferred to your account is a big plus too. Your sponsor's bank statement is ok as long as there is steady flow of income to show it will be replenished with time. I think you're on track. All the best.

It only mean you can travel between January and February. Your stay will be extended by 3 months at the port of entry and you get the full year permission to stay in Ireland when you register with GNIB. I'll suggest you start looking for GNIB appointment dates in January. It's not easy getting close dates.

I absolutely agree with ICASng advise. I don't know how deep your pocket is but I know you cannot survive with €1000 a month with your family. Your wife would need to get a supporting job which is possible based on the type of visa you'll get. There are things you need to take care of when you arrive and they are not automatic.
You need to get accommodation, apply for IRP and PPS appointments and generally get to understand the system (and it's very structured). Doing all those while studying with the stress of settling your family would be difficult. I would suggest you come down, understand the system and then bring your family over. That way you'd have checked out schools that your children would attend, jobs that your wife can apply for and gotten a good family accommodation. All the best Sir.
akaraelepo:
Dear all,

I need some information. I have been awarded a scholarship to undergo a 4-year structured PhD at NUIG. I have also received my acceptance letter from the admission office stating clearly that the scholarship will take care of my tution fees and I will still have an excess of €1000pm all through the four years. It was indicated in the conditional mail sent to me that they are expecting me with my family. I would like to know in applying for join family visa for my 2kids ( aged 2 and 4) and my spouse, how much do I need to have in my account?
TravelRe: GENERAL Irish (student)visa & Work Permit-New THREAD*** by olajimii: 5:44pm On Nov 17, 2019
It all depends on how direct your case is. Everyone's case is different.
Chiggsglover:
Chineke! Why did yours take 13 weeks, that's super long o and far cry from the 5-8wks. This study visa is real scary ooo. I hear sometimes, they release it very early but they forgot to send it to the applicant. Abeg explain oo.
TravelRe: GENERAL Irish (student)visa & Work Permit-New THREAD*** by olajimii: 10:11am On Nov 17, 2019
Average wait time for study visa is 8 weeks,I waited 13 weeks for mine. Check the Irish embassy site for the average wait time for a tourist visa. I'd suggest you wait for the decision though. From my experience, if they wanted to deny you they would have..... you've waited this long already, stay positive.

Concerning the weather, it's cold all year round. The sun is lazy, rises late and sets early. I'm not sure you'll get a jacket thick enough for the cold in Nigeria, I'll advice you buy here, a good jacket costs between €50-€70 ( if you don't care about designer). In my opinion, food is relatively cheap, at least the normal stuffs like rice, potatoes and stew stuffs, you'll get good prices at Lidl and Tesco (yam is a no go area, I would not advice you bring from nigeria due to the weight though)Chicken is the cheapest protein and in abundance. Pack lots of indomie when coming, it's expensive here. If you don't know how to cook, go and start learning. Eating out is a bad idea for saving, especially in Dublin. And yes DBS is a good school. I like the fact that they understand students need free time to work and have structured classes to allow for that. All the best in your application, we hope to hear good news from you soon. Cheers.
Chiggsglover:
I want to thank you for all your posts, comments and Encouragement, I used an Agent for my application and I got great service, was on this Canada craze and the Agent pointed my attention to Ireland. I submitted 10th of October. First application tho. First time I'll be commenting on a travel section. ICASNG and others have been so helpful and all.

I applied to study in Dublin Business school, would have preferred a less busy city due to my personality and the cheaper option, but it's already in motion.

Been watching lots of YouTube and I can't place my finger on the weather in Ireland, some say it's always raining, barely snows, little sun.... So I don't know how to gear up when it's time to pack.
Unlike Canada, UK and Germany threads, you'll know that January snow is not a laughing matter. I also heard you can't use an umbrella cos of the wind. So I thought of waterproof shoes and jacket.
We need more survival tips here. Seriously we do.
What food do I bring? I already decided on bringing just indomie. I love my potatoes lol, fresh stuff, not a fan of dried fish and the rest. Not keen on yam, I also Love my beans.

Just so you know, I have consumed this thread from the page 1 to now that I'm typing and it has offered lots of assistance in application but very little on survival.

My thoughts exactly. With an internationally recognised masters degree, you have a very good chance of migrating to other countries. Especially Canada and Australia with their Permanent Residency program, you'll definitely get a high point. You could be lucky to even be offered a job before you get there.
CastedDude:
Bro, congratulations to u for graduating in flying colours... its not easy at all to make a First class degree. With ur complaints and dissatisfaction about ur present condition, why not try to migrate to other countries such as Canada and Australia through Permanent Residency. Having a Masters degree from a recognized country will help to smoothen the process. U can become a permanent resident in Canada with ur Masters degree. U don't need to put all ur eggs in one basket. U can port to another country with ur degree if u don't like Ireland anymore. Wish u all the best in your endeavors.
