That drug ought to have been banned by now

That drug can't be banned because it is a good analgesic. What we usually prescribe though is 50mg in the morning and 50mg at night. These "science students" go as high as 1400mg at once. That is what causes the drug induced psychosis, over-excitation and delirium that they usually experience.

A better recommendation is to make tell our Pharmacists to make sure it is a strict prescription drug. If possible, we should not prescribe more than 3 days dose which the person will come and be collecting on daily basis for the 3 days.
If those businessmen that own pharmaceutical shops don't compromise, the drug will never get to the streets.

Sports / Re: Joel Obi Set For Eagles Return, Stars For Torino Vs Juve by OlamideOkadigbo(m): 7:35am On Feb 20, 2018
gbosaa:

Joel Obi played his first game for the Eagles against Sierra Leone in 2011. That was 7 years ago. I remember someone like Segun Odegbami giving him some good reviews after the match. The Obi i saw then isn’t the same Obi I’m seeing today. I saw a player that was much lighter, good mobility, good passes and shootings. He took on his opponents, muscled his way through.

Obi of 2011-2012 Inter Milan isn’t the same person playing for Torino today. Injuries are not the only reasons for that. First time I saw him back in the days, I saw hunger and passion. I don’t see those anymore. If he has been limited by injuries or still suffering either the physical or psychological effects of his injuries, then I think this present Eagles isn’t a place for him.

The present squad need players who can move, fight, run and wear down the opponents. We saw that against Zambia, Algeria, Cameroon and Argentina. There is a magic in being young, fit and injury free. It lets you win difficult tackles without getting cards, you move and cover spaces easily without much stress, you dribble and shoot at the goal post even at difficult and awkward angles and beat the keeper, you score undeserved goals like chicaritto when balls fall at your feet while you are minding your business away from the action area or even not involved in goal mouth scramble. Ndidi, Ebuehi, Iwobi, Iheanacho have all benefitted from the above. It’s their time and anyone coming in to join the party should blend in with similar qualities.

Obi’s issues are not down to injuries alone. He need some spark to bring himself to at least 70% of what he used to be. If he can’t ignite that passion enough, he should remain in Torino and mind his club football.

I agree he is not the same player we saw 7 years ago. He had potentials to develop into a world class midfielder then. Injuries have obviously slowed him down and he might never reach a world class level again, but he has had sustained football since last season. This season, he has shone like a million stars. There is still no one in that Super Eagles midfield that can create space and move the ball as he does. Ndidi is a world class defensive midfielder, not a creative midfielder. Mikel is creative but he is not very mobile and he can be choked against opponents that play the ghen ghen pressing. The likes of Moses and Iwobi will play from the wings, not the middle of the pack. Iheanacho is a striker and Ebuehi is a right back.
Hence, we absolutely need his talent, mobility and creativity especially against stubborn defenses and high pressing teams.
Sports / Re: Joel Obi Set For Eagles Return, Stars For Torino Vs Juve by OlamideOkadigbo(m): 11:46pm On Feb 19, 2018
Majority of the guys criticizing Joel Obi have not seen him play. The dude is a good and skillful creative midfielder, which the Super Eagles badly need in the world cup(you can check out his highlight against Juventus if you don't believe me) . Injuries have just been extremely cruel to him. More so, those guys sarcastically calling for the recall of Taribo West and Mutiu Adepoju do not know that Joel is actually younger than Mikel Obi. He is probably 26 or 27.
If anything happens to Mikel at the world cup, maybe injury or if he is tightly marked in a match, there is no other genuine creator in that midfield. That's why we badly need Joel and just pray he doesn't get injured because, like Diaby, he is made of glass.

Family / Akwa Ibom Dethroned Teen Queen Tenders Unreserved Apology by OlamideOkadigbo(m): 7:51am On Jan 18, 2018
https://www.newsheadlines.com.ng/linda-ikeji-blog/2018/01/17/quotfrom-the-deepest-recesses-of-my-heart-i-plead-for-forgivenessquot-dethroned-miss-akwa-ibom-teen-tenders-apology-to-organisers-shares-covered-up-photos/

MODS, PLS HELP MOVE TO APPROPRIATE SECTION
The winner of the 2017 Queen of Akwa Ibom Teenagers Forum, Abasiodiong Eno Inyang, has tendered an apology after she was dethroned for releasing 'semi-nude' photos to mark her birthday.
In the apology letter posted on her Facebook page hours ago, the 20-year-old said she had been sad and depressed ever since the incident.

AN APOLOGY LETTER FROM MY SUBCONSCIOUS MIND.
..."In a dilemma such as which i see myself, one would be lost on who to chose between the Devil & Deep Blue Sea.
I CHOSE THE DEEP BLUE SEA".
I, Miss Abasiodiong Eyo Inyang who until my dethronement few days ago was MISS TEENS 2017/18 deeply apologies over my negative behaviour lately.
Few days ago i added another year to my age & i thought it wise to embark on a photoshoot, I decided to post my "Half Nude" pictures taken with the clearest of intentions.
Not knowing I would be misunderstood!
And so, I apologize to organisers of the "Miss Teens Pageant" whose crown I bore...
To teenagers across boards who are victims because of how they dress...
To Akwa Ibomites who I let down...
To parents, family, School & friends...
Please, from the deepest recesses of my heart, i plead for FORGIVENESS.
The past few days have been hell for me, so depressed & so hard on me regarding the fact i was a serving queen & shouldn't indulge on negative trends. It hurts & sincerely, I have never felt this way in my entire life, and I just can not control it.
I never meant to bring disrespect to the world of Pagentry or modelling professions, my intention was not to belittled the crown or insult fellow queens. No... Far from it.
MY REGRETS:
1.) Not being asked WHY but being judged by ALL without an opportunity for fair hearing.
2.) Not being allowed to face a panel on my suitability to continue as a TEEN AMBASSADOR before being banished.
3.) Not being asked the motive behind my actions.
4.) Not given a chance/opportunity to atone & plead for forgiveness.
5.) Being chastised, condemned & treated as an infidel over a mistake i should have been corrected with kid gloves.
Notwithstanding,
I am sorry for what I did yesterday, I am sorry for what I did today and what I'll do .
I know I could apologize for days on end but it may not eliminate your thoughts on me but i take solace on God Almighty & on his grace i continually seek strength to endure the pain i currently face.
Knowing my actions upset many tremendously,
PLEASE I AM DEEPLY SORRY.
My fault, I AM HUMAN & NOT A SAINT WITHOUT BLAME.
Dear Friends,
Help me if you will "Not to drown in this
DEEP BLUE SEA".
We Teens must grow, and Thrive, for a better
.
As a child raised from a christian home, i seek for forgiveness from all who i must have offended, i am not entirely perfect so let me not be crucified over an ignorance i now regret.
It is my fervent supplications to God that my apology over this sad episode of my life be ACCEPTED by all who i offended by this ugly incidence.
Once again, I AM DEEPLY SORRY, PLEASE ACCEPT ME BACK AS I AM.
God bless you all.

I might be wrong , but i dont think there is anythig like distinction or any grade in Medicine .What i have heard is maybe distiction in some of the courses Like Pathology and the rest .Medics in the house , over to you
There could be a distinction on the certificate but the requirement is pretty difficult.
You must have at least 5 distinctions in d 10 courses u took. At least one of d distinction must come in clinical year and all your exams must be cleared at one sitting. If u fulfill all the above, a distinction(Hons) will be on your MBChB certificate.
Education / Re: Meet Olugbenga Alabi: OOU's First Distinction In Medicine by OlamideOkadigbo(m): 7:17am On Feb 10, 2017
I am a medical student in OOU and I can authoritatively tell you there is distinction in medicine. Infact I just had a distinction in pharmacology in the part two MB result released yesterday (the only distinction in d class).
50-59% is pass, 60-69% is credit, 70% and above is distinction.
However it is easier for a bull to pass through the needle's eye than to score the 50% required to pass. After any professional exam(MB), abt half of d class pass and half of d class fail and 95% of those that passed will have btw 50-59%. So usually, we say medicine is all about pass or fail because for u to pass, u would probably av a 1st class in any other course.
However, Dr Alabi Olugbenga Saheed aka Chromo is a special breed. He had distinctions in 7 out of 10 courses. The one I had yesterday was my first out of 5 courses so far.
Again, on the certificate, what is usually wtitten is MBChB OGUN. But for Chromo, they wrote MBChB Hons.(d university senate requested a special certificate for him). A truly outstanding achievement.

Nairaland / General / 10 Phrases That Will Confuse You If You Are Not A Nigerian by OlamideOkadigbo(m): 9:36pm On Jun 22, 2016
When we tell you that Nigerians are interesting set of people, we mean it in every way. There are some phrases we use that will get you confused if you are not a Nigerian. These phrases could sound funny when you hear them but then, only Nigerians can relate with them.
Without wasting much time, let us look at some of the phrases Nigerians use while communicating. Some of these phrases would no doubt leave you confused as you may not be able to decode what they are actually trying to say. Find some of these phrases below:

1. Hear the smell

Nigerians are weird. They would use this phrase when they are trying to call your attention to a smell or odor. They would rather say hear the smell instead of perceive the smell.
It is only in Nigeria that the nose can be confused with the ears. Those who use this phrase speak the Yoruba language a lot. That is the only way you can explain this phrase as it is being relayed the way a typical Yoruba man will say it in his language

2. I’m coming

Now this will leave you feeling totally lost; a Nigerian could tell you he is coming when he is actually on his way out. This is a typical Nigerian’s way of saying I’ll be right back. So the next time you hear this, just make sure you tell them ‘bye’ as it could take a while before they return.

3. Dress for me

If you are not a Nigerian, you may go on and do something totally different upon hearing this phrase. When this phrase is being said by a Nigerian, he wants you to adjust and make space for him.

Thus, it is a typical Nigerian’s way of saying ‘please create a space for me’ or better still ‘let me share your space with you’. If you are not a Nigerian, you may confuse this with putting on accessories and wearing special clothes to impress the speaker.

4. Don’t go and be doing shaky shaky there

Now this is funny, at this point we agree that only Nigerians can understand themselves. Reading the above phrase, you will agree with us that it is meaningless and confusing.
But when you hear this from Nigerians, they are probably trying to encourage somebody by telling him to be brave. Therefore, the above phrase means to be brave and not fidget.

5. Stop lying on me
If you hear a man telling your wife over the phone to stop lying on him, a thousand lethal thoughts could pass through your mind if you are not a Nigerian. You would get the whole thing totally wrong and assume something else is going on.
However, Nigerians say this when they ought to say ‘stop lying against me’. This phrase is quite common in Nigeria with virtually every Nigerian speaking that way.

6. I will show you pepper

When Nigerians say they will show you pepper, do not assume they are talking about showing you tomatoes and green peppers. They are trying to tell you they will deal with you.
Nigerians say this when they are not pleased with someone; this is their own way of being vengeful. Nigerians mean they will get back at you for doing something to them when they use the phrase. You had better watch out when you hear this.

7. I will teach you a lesson

If you think a Nigerian want to teach you something new when you hear this phrase, you are in a big mess. This phrase means you are in for a tough time. Nigerian parents say this a lot when their children are being naughty.

The lesson being talked about here has nothing to do with school; rather it is a life lesson that will teach you how to behave well the next time you are faced with a similar circumstance.

8. Stay in your lane

Nigerians could be dramatic; they say one thing and it would mean a totally different thing. When you are being told to stay in your lane, this means you should mind your business and stop putting your nose in other people’s affairs. But if you are not a Nigerian, you would be left wondering what lane the speaker is talking about.

9. Before nko

Now this is going the Nigerian way. When you hear this, the speaker is indirectly saying ‘what do you expect’. This is a regular phrase in Nigeria as you are bound to hear it in the shortest conversation

10. For your mind

Nigerians use this phrase when they want to mock your opinion or tell you how lame they think your idea is. Most times, this phrase is always said after they might have done the symbolic twitching of the nose which is known as ‘yimu’ or the lifting of the chin as a sign of disbelief. When this phrase is being used, the speaker is throwing it to your face that a particular move will not work.

Feel free to add more and mods should please help me move this to the appropriate section.

OlamideOkadigbo:
By Dele Sobowale

“An excellent plumber is infinitely more admirable than an incompetent philosopher [PHD holder]. A society which scorns excellence in plumbing, because it is humble activity, and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy, because it is an exalted activity, will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water.” John Gardener, US Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare.

I was living and studying, in the USA, in the late 1960s when Gardener rendered this piece of good advice to graduating students at Harvard University. His aim was to warn the students not to think that their degrees made them superior to others who might not have university education but who were contributing greatly to society.

I also worked at Polaroid Corporation, founded by Dr(Honorary) Edwin Land, the university drop-out who started the revolution in photography by inventing the first instant camera – which all professors of Physics said could not be done. Dr Land eventually employed nothing less than 345 Ph.D holders in various departments of Polaroid Corporation. Some of those who came in with B.Sc received doctorate degrees based on experience and research they conducted at Polaroid.

This is important because Professor Wale Oladipo, National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party had been wasting everybody’s time comparing Jonathan, a Ph.D holder with Buhari – who he described as a semi-illiterate. Oladipo, naturally, failed to define semi-illiteracy in his bid to score cheap political points. That is standard practice for Nigerian professors once they enter the murky waters of politics – they invariably fail the minimum test of scholarship which calls for the definition of terms used in their presentations.

But, let me now take Oladipo up on his own terms by acknowledging that Jonathan holds a doctorate in Zoology. To begin with few, if any applicants for admission to university apply for Botany or Zoology. Their first preferences are often Medicine or Pharmacy. It is when their cut-off marks fall below the requirements for those two highly exalted professions that they are offered Zoology or Botany as a condition for admission to university. It would be interesting to know if Jonathan, ab initio, opted for Zoology or was shunted into that course.

More to the point, my questions are: what had he done with it? In what way had the Nigerian society benefited from his work as a Zoologist? How many papers had he got published in reputable academic journals of Zoology? In what ways had he advanced knowledge in Zoology? Those are the minimum requirements for excellence in academic work and not just the mere possession of a degree – which is a personal thing. There are millions of people all over the world with doctorate degrees who do nothing with them; they are just contented to hold the certificates. Meanwhile, there are technicians who have invented millions of useful equipment, household items, medical and diagnostic materials without the benefit of doctorate degrees. Professor Oladipo will surely agree with me, if he is not too far gone for redemption, that a Bill Gates or Edwin Land, both without Ph.Ds, had benefited the world far more than a million Jonathans and Oladipos who have nothing comparative to their credit but their certificates.

CONTINUITY – FROM THOSE WHO MADE YOUR CHRISTMAS MISERABLE

“Continuity” Jonathan’s adverts lining Abuja Airport.

Nigerians had the worst Christmas since I was born. There was no money. Even Federal Government staff were not paid. There was even black out for several hours on the 25th. Lean pickings at dinning tables and thread-bare clothes rounded up the dreary occasion.

Still PDP wants continuity. Among other horrors and atrocities implied in that request, consider these — continuity of bleak Yuletides; continuity of excuses for not generating more than 4000MW of electricity in 16 years; continuity of frequent ASUU strikes; continuity of mass failure in WASC and, now, Law School; continuity of Ministers purchasing bullet-proof cars and spending billions chartering jets; continuity of Ministry of Interior and other services collecting money from young job applicants and killing some of them and nobody got punished for it; continuity of pensioners dying on queues; continuity of missing Chibok Girls and kidnapped women; continuity of 400,000 barrels of crude stolen everyday in the Niger Delta; continuity of an unelected woman going about disrupting the lives of people everywhere she goes; continuity of NNPC not accounting fully for revenue generated; continuity of depleting External Reserves; continuity of depleted Excess Crude Oil….Need I continue?

In short CONTINUITY at your own peril. You will have a choice in February – to decide if that is what you want.

POWER SECTOR VERSUS NIGERIANS: WAR DECLARED.

“A man [or group] cannot be too careful in its choice of enemies.”

Oscar Wilde, 1854-1900

I spent the whole of last year persuading people in my community that Power Distributors were slow in providing metres because they didn’t have the funds. I pleaded they be given more time. After that stupid N500m donation, I will lead the attack on DISCOS from now on.
