BusinessRe: Where Is The 'naira' Note Printed? In Nigeria or Abroad? by Olaone1: 11:18am On May 27, 2012
naptu2: Naira notes and coins are printed/minted by the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc (NSPM) Plc and other overseas printing/minting companies and issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). At the currency printing works of the NSPM Plc, quality is meticulously controlled throughout every process of currency production. This guarantees that every note issued meets the required standard. The CBN maintains an office called Mint Inspectorate in the premises of the NSPM Plc to maintain security and quality of Naira notes and coins.

Currency is issued to deposit money banks through the branches of the CBN, and old notes retrieved through the same channel. Currency deposited in the CBN by the banks are processed and sorted to fit and unfit notes in line with the clean note policy. The clean notes are re-issued while the dirty notes are destroyed.

That local retailers will go belly up because of Walmart is simply alarmist and devoid of rational analysis.

AjanleKoko: I need advice too.
I miss home.
grin

More like "I need more money."

You're mocking us oo

tanimola22: Yes, we need your skills. We need more oil bunkers. The ones we had, they have now been granted amnesty by the FG of Nigeria. Many of them are now pilots, doctors, lawyers, architects. We are saddened by this fact, and we now wish to strengthen our current workforce to global standards.

Yours skills are needed in kidnapping and bunkering. You will help us perform covert research on fecund oil wells so that we can increase our accrued income from fraudulent and illegal crude oil transactions.

You may send your CV to t.d.bunkerresearch@naijoilabunkering.ng.com. I promise to have your CV forwarded to our HR manager who is in charge of recruiting covert research analysts. Our salaries are competitive and about the best in the bunkering industry. In fact, we offer a pay of $450,000 per year to people with good knowledge and professional experience in covert operations in the Middle East. We believe that such people can withstand the toughest of conditions in Africa.

Conclusively, we would like to sincerely thank you very much for your interest in our bunkering business, and we ecstatically look forward to receiving your CV and cover letter soon.

With sincere regards,
Shoemaker Tompolo Polofiyai

AjanleKoko: Far from it bro. I'm not totally exempt, as my better half is very active in that industry. But the rot in there, as far as Naija is concerned, is worth a think, fat salary or not.
These guys know about the said rot in the industry. They just don't care. Their main concern is the huge pay. That tells you there are limits to the so-called 'conscience.' In fact, guys don't care about the teachings in their Holy books. Religion ke when dollars full ground. Ola wanna be like them oooo grin grin .No one wants to miss out on the the tear-up. That's human nature. You are very right, though.

Naaah. That's not possible. She has no water nor electricity to give Nigerians. That would be an aberration.

Those are for you as individuals to provide. In Nigeria, everybody is a municipal. smiley

The last i checked i think minimum wage in Nigeria is about 25000 naira right?

It is 18,000 Naira. And, most states can't pay it. Civil servants are being owed by their governments grin

This is similar to saying NO to GSM because MTN an Etisalat are exploitative? You can imagine things without MTN and their trail-blazing effort in telecom.

How do you go about this? Let me in on this please.

Now, let me say this: nothing we change the way things are in Naija in the next 50 years. As individuals, we will get richer and more informed.

Collectively though, expect nothing. We will continue to dig our boreholes and soak-away.

Fact!

cap28: nigeria is just a dumping grd where the goods r sold and where cheap labour is used to run the shops.
Will it stop being a dumping ground without Walmart? What do you expect in a country that cannot generate electricity in the 21st century.

Even established companies that thought they could brazen it out are relocating.

It seems you just don't get the whole picture of things
BusinessRe: Walmart Nigeria: Good Or Bad Idea? (Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala) by Olaone1: 12:24am On May 23, 2012
cap28: I stated in an earlier post tht walmart is facing one of americas biggst class action lawsuits and ur still singing their praises, china uses child labourers to make walmart products and ur still singing their praises wen will it dawn on I tht the same fate awaits afrcn workrs? R u sayng its bettr to work for a foreign corporation on starvation wages rathr thn get rid of the root of the prblm ?
So, what is the root of this hydra-headed problem? Walmart or Western imperialism? Your main beef about Walmart is that the company pays 'starvation wages.' In a country where graduates are roaming the streets with no work let alone a gainful one?

So, they use child labourers in China? And, what are we using at present in Naija? Surely, it is worse than child labour. So, what exactly do you proffer as the way out? Let me in on it, please. I simply can't fathom this.

In a country where ordinary India men behave like kings yet you guys are saying no to an American company? In a country where teachers and other civil servants are being owed salaries? At least Walmart would pay wages promptly.

If what Walmart offers is 'starvation wages', then nothing less than 85 per cent of Nigerian workers are already in that bracket

cap28: Oh portage did I mention that wen they set up businesse abroad they get massive tax rebates and they r allowed to repartriate all their wealth back to america wth no obligation to investc in the cntry they r ra.png? Cn u now see they r interested in nigeria?
Well, if they pulled the aforementioned off in China and other countries where they operate why not Naija? Even the UK now offers something similar if you are ready to come in with massive investments.

I guess you all want only the Chevrons of this world in Naija? Even with zero amenities?

Walmart in Naija? You guys should applaud the move. In fact, their entry deserves a national knees-up.

I tell ya.
BusinessRe: Walmart Nigeria: Good Or Bad Idea? (Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala) by Olaone1: 11:34pm On May 22, 2012
cap28: Its not a question of wht u want to make ur final destination I dnt knw if u knw this but unemploymnt is rising steadily in the west , most ppl who work in walmart r not there because they love the job , its because thts all they cn get and walmart is xploiting their vulnerbl situation. In nigeria unemplymnt is a whoppng forty eight percent this is ideal for an xploitative cmpany like walmart as they can take advantage of the desperation in nigeria and pay workrs starvation wages like they do in haiti, bettr still they cld evn use child labour like they do in china -this will result in a race to the bottom of wages and pls stopcomparng americn workrs to nigerian workrs as low paid americn workrs cn get food stamps and they cn get medicare while nigerian workrs are totally at the mercy of predatory corporations like walmart

Nigerians r the only oppressd ppl I knw who argue in defence of their oppressors -so because businesses r out to make profit does tht justify them payng u a wage u cannt survive on ? Why r those americn walmart workers taking walmart to court why dnt they adopt ur stance and put up wth the abusivve practices of walmart? No wonder walmart is rushng to set up business in nigeria, the avrge nigerian is just like u clueless and easy to xploit.
Isn't this counter-intuitive? Starvation wages or no wages? Which do you prefer?

LOL at Nigerians saying no to a company that is good enough to operate in the US and China where labour laws are potent enough. I mean a country that can not even guarantee its populace 5 hours/day uninterrupted power supply? Is that how loving of your country you are? Is this how to be protective of your country from exploitation? By being unable to run anything on your own?

A country with abundant crude oil deposit but blessed with incompetent and deficient people to the extent that they import crude oil products? A country where everybody lives and reasons like deficient men on Zimmer frame?

They have nothing yet they are saying no to something.

Most of the guys saying NO here live abroad. They are ready to say no here but they will walk into Walmart/Tesco later in the evening for their weekly hunt for Walmart/Tesco grocery bargains. Funny people

Sentiments apart, Walmart will be great for Nigeria.

Beggars can't be choosers. The economy is struggling. They can take the cash back to America, but the know-how stays with us.

Any retailer is good enough at this stage. We simply don't have the know-how to operate businesses of Walmart's size and reach. Why not welcome all and learn from them? This is what changed China.

In economics terms, this is very good!
