Family / 85 Years Old Grand Mother Abandoned By Her Children by olaoreawofele: 10:01am On Mar 02, 2017
http://punchng.com/i-want-to-die-85-year-old-woman-rejected-by-children-cries/

Eighty-five-year-old grandmother, Mrs. Bolaji Isaac, says anytime she dies, she will be going to the grave with sorrow and bitterness.

Bolaji told PUNCH Metro that she had nothing to live for and preferred death because all her five children rejected her and efforts to see them had been abortive.

The Ikare, Ondo State indigene, said an apartment rented for her by a Pentecostal church in Lagos, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, had been forcefully taken by her second son, identified as Sola, who chased her out.

The octogenarian told our correspondents that she was in dire need of another accommodation, appealing to Nigerians to prevail on her children to meet with her before her death.

She said, “I had 10 children. While five of them died, five survived. My husband died about 20 years ago and I started selling paper bags to hospitals and clinics. When I didn’t have money to continue the work, I stopped.

“I was formerly living in the Alagbado area of Lagos State, but my son, Sola, chased me out. He came from Ondo State to live with me.

“His wife called me that I should send him back, but I ignored her. Later, I agreed when the pressure became too much. When I asked him to return, he refused and started fighting me.”

She added that anytime she called her fourth child, Samuel, a lawyer, he always gave excuses of being in court, promising to call back, without doing so.

Bolaji, who explained that Samuel prevented her from knowing his address, said other children also gave excuses instead of catering to her.

When our correspondent asked about her siblings, she lamented that they had equally forsaken her.

“When I had money, my mother advised me to take care of them that they would help my children in the future. I sponsored their education, but now, they don’t care about me. I don’t know what I did to deserve the treatment. I want to die. This suffering is unbearable,” she added, as she burst into tears.

Bolaji told PUNCH Metro that she later moved to the Ladipo area of Oshodi where an old friend, Mrs. Sadatu Ahmed, had been sheltering her for the past eight months.

Our correspondent learnt that Bolaji survived on a weekly N2,000 stipend she received from the MFM every Monday.

Her friend, Ahmed, who claimed to have known her for 25 years, said Bolaji used to visit her during their youthful days.

The 52-year-old added that she could not send her away when she came to her house.

“She was sleeping in the verandah of our compound, exposing herself to cold and mosquito bites. When I couldn’t bear it, I begged my son to allow us to accommodate her and he agreed.

“She cannot go to toilet on her own and she does not sleep well. I bathe her and keep vigils over her. She cries every day. She complains of pains in her legs, stomachs and other body parts. She is really suffering.

“Anytime I call any of her children, they do not pick the call. When they do, they are quick in cutting off the call. One said he was a family man and if he had to choose between his mother and wife, he would choose his wife.

“I am being forced to send her out of my house. My neighbours said if she died, I would be in trouble. I don’t want to go to jail for helping someone in need,” she added.

However, Samuel, on the telephone, said his mother was troublesome, adding that he kept her away from his family to avoid having issues with his marriage.

He said, “She was formerly living with my elder brother, Tope. She was always quarrelling with his wife to the extent that they would engage in fisticuffs. And it was regular. I witnessed the fights while I was in the university and that was why I decided never to allow any family member live with me.

“She cannot live with any of her sons without having issues with their wives, so we are trying to make enquiries about old people’s home for her because that is the next step. Just last week, we all contributed N25,000 to give her; so I wonder where the issue of neglect is coming from.

“My wife and I are too busy and if she stays with us, she will still complain of neglect. It is not important that she knows where I stay; the most important thing is that she is taken care of.”

Samuel, who confirmed that Sola stayed with the mother at a time, said he could not say if he sent her out.

He said although he didn’t know who she stayed with in Lagos, he sometime sent her money through his wife.

Crime / 3-yr-old Girl Kidnapped In Lagos Sold Thrice Before Rescue by olaoreawofele: 11:37am On Mar 01, 2017
Just wondering what is going on in this country. Has human life become such a cheap merchandise?

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/03/3-yr-old-kidnapped-lagos-sold-thrice-rescued-aba/

LAGOS—The three-year-old girl kidnapped by her mother’s apprentice, Grace John, who had resumed five days earlier at their Alagbado shop in Lagos two months ago, was found in Abia State, weekend. The little girl, as reliably gathered, had been sold to three different buyers in the eastern part of the country for prices ranging from N500,000 to N600,000. Vanguard gathered that after her abduction, she was taken to the kidnappers’ den, a forest in Badagry area of Lagos, from where her abductors proceeded to Onitsha, Anambra State, where she was sold to a woman for N500,000. Dissatisfied with the choice of a baby girl, the first buyer, with an undisclosed identity, was said to have sold the girl to another buyer for N500,000 in Awka, Anambra State capital. The second buyer, in turn, sold the child to another man in Umuahia, Abia State capital for N600,000. The hunt Information at Vanguard’s disposal revealed that operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS, Lagos State Police Command, traced Grace to Badagry area of Lagos, where she was arrested. Her arrest led the operatives to the eastern part of the country, where the missing child was found on Sunday. Vanguard gathered that some gunmen, who intended to sell the child to a fourth buyer, dropped her close to a Catholic Church, amidst gunshots, unknown to them that FSARS operatives had cordoned off the area. However, the operatives, as gathered, could not respond for fear of hurting the toddler. Police sources hinted that “we used Grace as bait to get the first buyer in Onitsha. She called the buyer on phone and told her that she had a ‘trouser,’ which is a codename for a male victim. “The woman came to meet her at a bus stop, where she was apprehended. She led us to the second buyer, who in turn, led us to the third, who was also about to sell her. So far three persons have been arrested.” Parents thank Vanguard, police As at 5p.m. yesterday, the baby’s elated parents were still at the Abia State Police Command. Speaking with Vanguard, her father, Mr. Elesh Adebiyi, said: “We give God praise and also thank Vanguard for the assistance rendered. “Our daughter is hale and hearty. We are grateful to FSARS and the Nigeria Police in general. This feat has further re-affirmed my confidence in the Force.” Recall that the baby’s unsuspecting mother, Mrs Oluwatobiloba Adebiyi, allowed her daughter to follow Grace, who was going to buy snacks, after efforts to pacify the child, who was crying then, failed. However, apprehension set in moments later, after an endless wait for Grace and the baby to return. Grace could not be reached on her phone as it was switched off. Since her abduction, the parents were not contacted for any ransom, suggesting that it was not a case of kidnapping, until the arrest of Grace, who was said to be planning for another operation elsewhere.

Politicians steal public funds and deprive you of good hospitals, quality education, pipe borne water, good roads and security. And they run to religion to hide to avoid paying the price of corruption. They even shout in the papers to hoodwink you they are fighting your course. And you swallow the bait, shouting their praise to high heavens as your heroes. This gimmick has been used by Nigerian politicians for ages yet our people continue to fall for it especially the religion cards. It is more baffling because it is the youth, who should have mostly been denied opportunities by the corruption that call the looters heroes the most. And, I ask, what is the hope for the country? What is this talk about generation power shift to the youth? Are we going to import good citizens too to make this country better?
They wreck your lives by stealing the country dry, yet you praise them just for kneeling down in the open before Pastors who also go about currying favours from Politithiefians. When are Nigerians going to call a spade a spade?

The Senate President and the leadership of the National Assembly should review downwards their wages and allowances to reflect the economic realities of the day to start with. Thereafter, the Senate President should institute an amendment to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that reduces the National Assembly to only one arm and ensures only one Senator represents a State. Let all those polithiprenuers go and find work to do. Don't trust this SP, he doesn't mean well.

They have for a long time been killing anybody whether Muslims or Christians. More Muslims may have died from Boko Haram than Christians. Just that more noise is made when Christians are the target, unlike the silence that greets the killing of Muslims. Politics / Is The North Of Nigeria Deliberately Decimating Its' Minorities? by olaoreawofele: 10:21am On Dec 30, 2016
I read the stories about the number of deaths from the Southern Kaduna crisis (see link below) and I wonder why crisis appear to be prevalent in the minority areas such as the North Central Benue, Nassarawa, Plateau, Southern Kaduna and the North East minorities such as Chibok etc. Can these killings be deliberate and systematic ethnic and religion motivated in truth? Please, this topic is not for people who want to insult but those who may have genuine information to share.

http://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/12/30/808-killed-in-southern-kaduna-attacks-says-catholic-church/

808 Killed in Southern Kaduna Attacks, Says Catholic Church
December 30, 2016

John Shiklam in Kaduna

The leadership of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan in Kaduna State has disclosed that a total of 808 people were killed in 53 villages across the four local governments areas in the state ridden by crisis.

Giving a statistics of the killings and destruction in a statement in Kafanchan, the church leaders said 57 people were injured while farm produce estimated at N5.5 billion were also destroyed.

The statement disclosed further that a total of 1,422 houses and 16 churches were burnt during the attacks. The affected communities are spread across Kaura, Sanga, Jama’a and Kauru Local Government Areas where there had been persistent attacks on communities by gunmen believed to be Fulani herdsmen.

The Catholic church also rejected the N100 million donated a couple of months ago by the state Governor, Nasir el-Rufaim for the reconstruction of worship places destroyed in the affected areas, saying the money should be used in compensating those who have been rendered homeless.

A 24-hour curfew had been imposed on the affected areas by the state government following the frequent attacks.

A combine team of soldiers and anti-riot policemen had been deployed on the area to maintaine law and order following recent protest by people of the area over the killings.

According to the church leaders, “The herdsmen and their ilk turned the towns into killing fields and killed mostly women, children and the elderly who couldn’t run for cover.

“The level of barbarity was such that pregnant women got their wombs blown out and massacred before their children. And these innocent children were not spared either.

“This level of viciousness was never witnessed even in the brutal tyranny and regime of Adolf Hitler. What is most intriguing is the level of sophistication of weapons likeAK 47, machine guns and many other deadly instruments of death which were freel used.

“The viciousness of these self styled Jihadists sends shivers into the spines of our traumatised people. In the Godogodo and Pasakori attacks for example, the military merely watched and supervised the burning of our homes. When the youths mobilised to repel the attackers, the soldiers deliberately blocked them from entering the town.”

The statement was signed by the Vicar General of the Diocese, Rev. Fr. Ibrahim Yakubu; Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Okolo, Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Aaron Tanko Rev. Fr. Williams Abba and President, Laity Council, Mr. Joseph Bayei (KSJ).

The statement noted: “It didn’t take the government of el-Rufai time to figure out what to do to tackle armed robbery and cattle rustling in the Birnin Gwari area.

“Within the shortest possible time, soldiers were deployed and many of the cattle rustlers and bandits were either killed or arrested and cows in their hundreds were rescued.

“This is commendable and we are happy that the Fulanis in Birnin Gwari have been rescued from these bandits. If the government can deploy helicopters and soldiers to Birnin Gwari to help in tracking down the terrorists, why is the same government unwilling to deploy the same soldiers and helicopters to Southern Kaduna to help flush out the Fulani herdsmen terrorising indigenes of Southern Kaduna?”

The church leaders called for the setting up of a commission of inquiry to look into the remote and proximate causes of this crisis, with members evenly drawn between both parties.

They urged security agencies to fish out all perpetrators and sponsors of the killings and bring them to justice.
“We demand immediate release of Southern Kaduna youths and leaders unjustly detained by various security agencies for trumped up charges.

“Provision of relief materials to victims of the attacks in Southern Kaduna be made a priority.
“Compensation to all families that suffered losses of dear ones and property
“Communities overrun by Fulani herdsmen and now under occupation by same must be vacated and their owners returned to their homes and farmlands immediately,” the statement added.
