The Muslim group is MUSWEN, not MURIC. Find the link and the relevant excerpt below.

https://www.nairaland.com/4444760/watch-statements-south-west-muslims-caution#66588953

''The religious body, however, expressed displeasure over the continued abduction of Leah Sharibu by members of the Book Haram group.

“We, therefore, call on members of the Boko Haram group to release the girl forthwith without any further delay. It is unimaginable how far the group could go in its acts of the mindless disservice to Islam and Muslims. Islam stands for humanity, not against it” MUSWEN appealed.

The religious body added that: “We want to reiterate the fact that Islam forbids forceful conversion of non-Muslims to Islam and enjoins respect for People of the Book – Jews and Christians. Indeed, Allah explicitly directs Muslims to provide refuge to even idol-worshippers who seek shelter in our abodes and grant them protection to safety!”

MUSWEN expressed surprise that some Christian leaders and elder have allegedly politicised the matter, insisting that “we declare for the umpteenth time that the Boko Haram group does not represent Islam and the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria”.

The group urged Nigerians to continue to live together in peace and harmony, irrespective of religious and political differences.''

Hmmm. Lies? Well, I will explain. Boko boys don't regard ''Muslims'' as being part of them. Did you watch the video of a Nigerian Army pilot captured by Boko boys during GEJ govt and who happened to be a Muslim? He was slaughtered by the Boko boys. There was communique issued by MURIC asking that govt should rescue Leah Sharibu. The govt have the responsibility to protect all Nigerians be it Christians or Muslims. Noise making doesn't release a captive from Boko boys. You certainly would not believe all Muslims sit in a conference and ask Boko boys to go kidnap Christians when the same Boko boys kill more Muslims than Christians. If you still don't get the point and think Muslims are the enemies, then I can't help ......

CodeTemplar:
Lies. Then why is Leah Sharibu in their custody and Muslim aren't speaking against it?
Celebrities / Re: This Is Nigeria’: MURIC Takes Battle Against Falz To CAN by olaoreawofele: 3:18pm On Jun 20, 2018
Boko Haram ideology is not Islamic. They have killed more Muslims than Christians. They have bombed more Mosques than Churches. As for MURIC and other bodies, I don't speak for them. They can speak for themselves. However, virtually all Imams condemn terrorism, especially on Jumaat prayers. I understand you won't know because you don't belong in a Jumaat service.

CodeTemplar:
If Muslims refuse to condemn the evil of a single Muslim or group of Muslims then they are in support of it. For example had MURIC or any other Islamic body condemned Boko Haram or The killing of Christians by Muslims? No,. That means they support it.

Your post also shows the bias and hypocrisy of Christians who equate the deeds of a single Muslim to all Muslims or their faith, Islam. We all need to learn tolerance.

It only highlights the inferiority of Muslims who see anything not Muslim as Christian. What a load of crap!

Politics / Re: Buhari: MURIC Blames Saraki For Impeachment Threat by olaoreawofele: 5:36pm On Jun 06, 2018
Another blunder from MURIC. Absolutely unnecessary. Mixing politics and religion will never end well. CAN and MURIC deserved to be banned.

ugo4u:
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has condemned the National Assembly’s threat to impeach President Muammadu Buhari.

It also fingered Senate President, Bukola Saraki as the one who instigated his colleagues.

Prof Ishaq Akintola, in a statement on Wednesday, said the group was irked by the constant propensity of Nigerian lawmakers to armtwist the executive.

“We condemn acts of legislative brigandage and parliamentary subjugation of the executive. It is a rape on the democratic principle of separation of powers”, MURIC noted.

“We are inclined to believe that the latest threat of impeachment is not unconnected with the current travails of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

“This attempt to turn the heat on Buhari particularly at this material time is nothing short of armtwisting, blackmail and parliamentary terrorism. Senate should remain neutral in a criminal case and allow the law to take its due course.

“The rule of law necessitates equality before the law. This means no Nigerian citizen is above the law. Even those who have immunity today may have to answer for any misdemeanor after leaving office. Nigerian lawmakers have a duty to respect the rule of law if indeed they are conscious of their status and committed to their parliamentary duties.

“The NASS will further ridicule the hallowed chambers if it should go ahead with this ignoble idea of impeaching the Nigerian president. Already, the whole world knows the true story particularly as it relates to the war against corruption.

“MURIC alerts Nigerians to brace up for the last struggle to liberate the masses from the clutches of capitalist compradore bourgeoisie in the NASS who are bent on frustrating the efforts of the current administration to make life more abundant for the common man. The Nigerian people must tighten their seat belts. We cannot afford to watch in silence while identified oppressors seek to eliminate our liberator.

“While MURIC will not play politics with the Saraki-police saga, we must stand up for the truth. Neither must we be afraid to say it as it is. Though not as graphic, we may have a similitude of the S. T. Oredein tragedy in the Bacita robbery of 1971 in the days of Kam Salem as the Inspector General of Police. Is history repeating itself this time around as a farce or as a tragedy? Time will tell.

”We contend that participation in crime cannot be limited to activities at the scene of crime. Neither can we extenuate or totally write off the offence of those who facilitate the empowerment of criminals to the extent that the latter is able to use the proceeds of empowerment to commit a crime.

“Nobody in his right senses will dismiss the confessions of criminals who provide both historical and pictorial evidence of long association with high profile politicians particularly crimes in which several lives have been lost over decades.”

Saddening. Not surprised they have looked the other way for the killings to go on unabated. Animal farm indeed. 1400 AD thinking in 2018.

They control the arm forces, and other security agencies and they are using them to protect their own. Clearer now that the grazing thing is truly beyond breeding cattle. It is a scheme to settle their people on other ethnic groups land having realised they have no claim to anywhere since they have been an itinerant tribe for centuries.

Defence Minister of Nigeria herdmen has spoken.
ugo4u:
Abuja – Against the backdrop of severe security challenges facing the nation particularly herdsmen killings and kidnapping by bandits, Defence Minister, Mansur Muhammad Dan Ali has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to approve the establishment of a Special Security Task Force for Zamfara and Birnin Gwari axis.

Mansur Dan Ali also said there was to reduce tension in Benue and Taraba States by suspending the implementation of the Anti-Open Grazing Law while also negotiating safe routes for the herders.

The minister who made the recommendations at the Security Council meeting held at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday disclosed that the special security outfit will be similar to Operation Safe Haven in Jos.
The minister also disclosed that in continuation of military operations to clear Boko Haram insurgents from the Lake Chad Basin area, the Multinational Joint Task Force has rescued 296 hostages from the terrorists hideouts in Lake Chad fringes.

A statement by Colonel Tukur Gusau, Spokesman of the Defence Minister entitled ‘Minister of Defence Intervention at the Security Council Meeting held at the state House, Abuja on 5th June 2018’ said, “The minister drew the attention of the council to the incessant killings and kidnappings by armed bandits and criminal activities across the North West which is becoming alarming and worrisome

“He mentioned the Abuja-Kaduna expressway as a source of concern as there were still recorded incidences of kidnappings within the period under review.

“He also stated that the upsurge in incidents of security concern in Zamfara state is quite disturbing and calls for more robust approach to tackling the threat.
“The situation is characterized with killings and kidnappings by armed bandits and criminal elements predominantly in Anka, Maru, Kaura Namoda and Talata Mafara LGAs of the state.

“In the North Central, the incidents of herdsmen-farmers clashes in Benue and Taraba states have reduced considerably. Several arrests have been made in connection with the killings and destruction of properties by own troops in conjunction with other security agencies.

“While in the North East, the Boko Haram terrorist’s activities have been contained as there is significant improvement in security situation in the zone.

“The Nigerian Army has launched ‘Operation Last Hold’ to flush out the insurgents from their hideouts in the Lake Child Basin and free the communities to enable IDPs to return to their homes. The operation is to last till end of August 20, 2018.

“Similarly, the MNJTF is currently engaged in Operation to dislodge Boko Haram terrorists in the fringes between Niger Republic and Nigeria. The Task Force has so far dislodged the insurgents from Arege, Kangarwa, Metele and few other Islands on the Lake Chad.

“So far, 296 persons have been rescued and are undergoing profiling. The number is envisaged to increase as troops intensify clearance operations.
“In the South-South and South West, the situation of illegal oil bunkering, militancy, pipeline vandalism is on a decline in Niger delta following the effort of the federal government to engage stakeholders in dialogue.
“Similarly, Operation Awatse has continued to dislodge militants and pipeline vandals from Arepo and other areas in Lagos and Ogun states.

“The council was also informed by the minister that the United States conveyed to the government of Nigeria information about the implementation of countering America’s Adversaries through sanctions Acts Section 231.

“It is pertinent to state that the award of contract for the procurement of the Mi-35 helicopters was completed before the act was signed into law in August 2017.
“In conclusion, the minister suggested to the council the need for Defence Headquarters to launch a Joint Task Force operation similar to Operation Safe Haven in Jos to cover Zamfara and Birnin Gwari axis of Kaduna state with headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara state.

“The need to employ other channels with the affected states to reduce tension by suspending the implementation of the anti-open grazing law while also negotiating safe routes for the herders.
“The urgent need for the Nigerian Police and DSS to prosecute all the suspects arrested in the states.
“The need to hasten the establishment of a National Commission on the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons in Nigeria.

“The need to engage diplomatic channels to ensure US sanctions does not affect Nigeria.”

Politics / Re: Stop Buhari's Impeachment Process Now Or Else..... - MURIC Threatens NASS by olaoreawofele: 5:07pm On May 07, 2018
MURIC is beginning to evolve to be the exact replica of CAN, and especially the CAN under GEJ. What has Muslim rights got to do with parliamentary duties of lawmakers?

This country just has many citizens unworthy of its citizenship.

stephanie11:
@POLITICSNGR

The Muslim Rights Concern Group, MURIC has warned the National Assembly to put a halt to any plans to Impeach President Muhammadu Buhari over the Withdrawal of $462 million for the Purchase of Super Tuscano helicopters.

In a statement made available to PoliticsNGR, the group said the National assembly should stand with the people of Nigeria and stop every move to remove president Buhari. Read the full statement below;

"The National Assembly (NASS) is currently plotting to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari. This followed a motion moved on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday 24th April, 2018 by Senator Matthew Urhoghide. The senator asked his colleagues in the Red Chamber to invoke Section 143 of the Nigerian Constitution to remove the president because the latter approved the sum of $496 million for the purpose of purchasing 12 Super Tucano war planes without recourse to the NASS.

Urhogide, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senator representing Edo South Senatorial District, insists that the president violated Section 80 of the Constitution with the approval.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) is stupefied by the attitude of members of the NASS. It is bellicose and extremely hostile. The body language of Nigeria’s current legislators manifests an acute desertification of parliamentary acumen.

It would have been a different story if Buhari had approved such an amount to buy more jets for the presidential fleet or for members of his family. But this is to increase the combat readiness of our own military for crying out loud! Our legislators are standing logic on its head.

Boko Haram insurgents occupied seventeen local governments in Borno State and threatened two other states in the North East: Adamawa and Yobe because the Jonathan administration adopted a lackadaisical attitude to insecurity in the region. Money meant for the purchase of arms for the military to fight the insurgents was fraudulently shared among party faithful.

What did the NASS do for former President Goodluck Jonathan in 1914when Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor’s private jet which was stuffed with $9.3 million by Jonathan was smuggled out of Nigeria to South Africa for ‘procurement of arms’? Why was Jonathan’s unprincipled procedure overlooked while Buhari’s transparent, standard and conventional global process must be castigated? What manner of legislating is this? Who gave us these legislators? Who did this to Nigeria?

Who appropriated the $9.3 million for Jonathan for the procurement of arms in South Africa? Did he even write to the National Assembly to merely notify them about his intention to procure those arms? Can anyone compare that to Buhari’s transparent gesture? Is it not a mark of moral jaundice to demonise a noble deal while a crooked transaction is idolised? Or what did the NASS dominated by the PDP at the time do after the Jonathan-Oritsejafor dollar smuggling scandal burst?

By the way, who appropriated the $2.1 billion arms funds that President Jonathan carted away and shared to his campaigners? Money meant for fighting insecurity converted to campaign fund for Jonathan’s second term and the NASS turned a blind eye.

This should have been the focus of those organizing or instigating demonstrations over the current general insecurity. This is where the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) got it wrong. They should have asked Jonathan certain pertinent questions. They should have reminded him of what he did to this country. The hard fact is that Jonathan paralysed Nigeria’s security apparatus.

Which NASS appropriated for Jonathan all the billions of dollars he took from the Excess Crude Account with nothing to show for the billions? Did the PDP dominated NASS ever say anything about those illegalities? So why is the current NASS taking on Buhari for doing the needful?

Is it because they want Buhari to fail in his determination to fight insurgency? Is it because the war against corruption is succeeding? Are our legislators unhappy because the looting tap is now dry? Must they vent their spleen on a frugal president, a president who has refused to waste public funds? Is it because they are scared of a second term presidency for Buhari? Or is it because there is no under-the-table cut in the Super Tucano agreement for some interests in the NASS? Sorry, but it is not in Buhari’s character. The party is over.

Are the British Commons and the Lords listening? Is the American Congress paying any attention to this bastardisation of parliamentary values and degradation of legislative norms in Nigeria? Insecurity has reached a scandalizing peak in Nigeria but our legislators want to remove the president for striking a neat deal to purchase arms in order to effectively combat terrorism.

Demonstrations are being staged around the country over insecurity but our legislators care less. We are already in the month of May but our legislators are yet to pass a budget submitted to them about eight months ago. NASS owes Nigerians an explanation. Is it because their palms have not been greased as usual? It is just a question. No wonder foreign governments refer to Nigeria as ‘fantastically corrupt’.

We assure members of the NASS that no matter what they do, Nigerians are proud of Buhari: this is a president who is still using his predecessor’s old cars three years after. Unlike most Nigerian politicians, although he has been a former military head of state, a former military governor, a garrison commander, chairman of the defunct Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), he has no private jet, no foreign account, no fleet of cars and no hilltop palatial houses.

Unlike his predecessor, Buhari’s wife uses commercial planes when travelling outside Nigeria and his ministers are not even allowed to fly first class either within or outside the country. This is why Nigerians are passionate about Buhari.

Members of the NASS must tell Nigerians: are you with us or are you with the enemies of Nigeria? If you are with us you must leave Buhari alone. If you are with us you must drop that irrational, odious and insidious move to impeach the people’s president. It is preposterous and highly reprehensible for anyone to contemplate impeaching the most transparent president Nigeria ever had. It is a big shame that the NASS tolerated thieves for 16 years but find it difficult to tolerate a honest man for three years! We can understand. We know Buhari is a pain in the ass for looters.

In a nutshell, we warn the NASS to stop Buhari’s impeachment process or face the wrath of Nigerians and the anger of the civilized world. Many receive advice, but only the wise profit by it."

Religion / Re: First Baptist Church, Abuja Protests Killings By Terrorists In Nigeria (Photos) by olaoreawofele: 5:54pm On May 02, 2018
Muslims protest against terrorism and the killings. Many Imams and Muslims condemn the killings of innocent people. That, they do not gather to carry placards does not mean they support terrorism. After all, not all Christians who abhor the killings participated in the placards protest called by CAN. It is also a fact that terrorism has killed more Muslims than any other religion or groups. The 20 people killed in Mubi were killed inside a Mosque. The mere coincidence that some terrorist share religious identity with Muslims does not equate to same belief and faith. Our experiences and views to life do affect the way we interpret even the religious books and the way we use it.

Am not sure you are a Muslim though. But whatever you are, this post is ill-thought. As much as the message was warning the government against civil war, they have not declared war on Muslims. They have only warned the government of the serious consequences of government inaction in the face of grave crimes against humanity. We can't continue to fan the embers of war and especially religious war and intolerance on both sides and expect the country to move forward. In fact, am tired of the way ordinary Nigerians who are at the receiving end of the problems of this country go about instigating more problems for all. The country has a major problem with leaders and followers.

Purewatermeji:
angry When GEJ provoked Muslims by removing the Islamic inscriptions on the centenary notes, did we go to war? When MURIC complained about the favoritism like xmas and new year holidays which Christians enjoy in the country did we go to war? Prince Tony Momoh rose with the system of padi padi and will do anything to protect it. Truth be told, Nigeria has not changed in 3 yrs of Buhari's government. There have been no true efforts made to create opportunities for all. Only those connected still pull the strings for benefits even employment.
The Nigeria we want is that where regardless of your background, you have equal opportunities at education, employment, justice, politics and security for all; not one where criminals pay to have mobile policemen protection at the expense of law-abiding citizens.

I guess Buhari and his foot soldiers like Prince Tony Momoh do not understand what I explained here or are desperate to keep the system that places them above their more capable colleagues.

Whenever you believe you have done well but the people you provide service to think otherwise, there is a need for re-calibration. This government needs just that. They are doing same olds and not doing what the electorates expect them to do.
Electorates expect a decisive and progressive solutions to cattle herding to end the unnecessary bloodshed without other tribes losing their land, this government going the opposite direction.
The people expect a government to fight corruption with institutions and government structures that will expeditiously try and convict guilty ones and to do so holistically without party affiliation, this government is doing the opposite.
The electorates expect power and fuel, this government is clinging to sabotaged refineries and awarding TAM contract like previous governments for refineries that will never work. Food for the boys. They think we don't see it?
The power sector is ever in comatose because the government is not thinking out of the box. By enacting laws to open up power generation to private sectors investment, by doing cluster power generation for industries, by investing in solar and alternative energy for households and free national grid for industries, this economy will be jump-started. What are they doing? All actions no motion. I can go on and on. Someone who knows these government should let them know they are not performing. If you have to beg the press to report what you do, then you are doing things not worth the while of the people.

They rarely tell themselves the truth. Otherwise, they would have boldly tell Buhari to go rest finally in Daura. The misfortune of a nation playing out before our very eyes.

Please stop this ------. This is a serious issue. Just to commute to work only and get my kids to school will cost my small family above N30, 000 per month. What kind of extortion is that? Upon the shoddy epileptic service, they render that causes traffic.

Majority of those complaining are igbos. They are not used to infrastructural development because they vote in useless leaders. Left to the Yorubas who own Lagos, the new tarrif is chicken change cos Yoruba's are wealthy people

No need wondering why Nigerians find it very tough to get visas to any country. You can't be exporting this trash and expects people to want you. If not for human rights concerns, these people should be given the Gestapo treatment as prescribed by Hitler.
