obailala: Oh yes!.. Nigeria has a larger population, a louder voice, greater exposure and strong global influence but must we always be bullies? Gosh!.. why must there be some sentimental bias in all our judgements?

The other day some Kenyans 'politely' complained about the treatment of their football players in Nigeria by the NFF and the next thing we saw was foul mouthed teenagers _{(I'm assuming those comments on NL were by teenagers)} insulting and yabbing Kenya. Why can't we just act as mature as we think we are?

mikeapollo: Go and do an analysis of Nigerian and Ghanaian music. Most Nigerian musicians are now playing the 'Hiplife' style of music that originated from Ghana. It is the fast, uptempo Highlife mixed with rap, and it was originated by Reggie Rockstone in the early 90s and modernised by younger musicians by Sarkodie, Praye, Obour etc

What most young Nigerian musicians have been playing in the last 3-years are imitation of the Ghana Hiplife music...from Iyanya, Olamide, May-D, Davido, Wizkid, Ruggedman, Terry G, Timaya, J.Martins, Duncan Mighty, Omawumi, etc and virtually all the young new Nigerian artistes.
If you would be sincere, you would realise that the trend of music/beats/rhythms we hear now is different from what we used to hear in about 5-10 years back. Take Iyanya for instance. Compare the style of music he released after the winning the Project Fame about 5-6 years ago, and the kind of music he plays now.....He is now playing the 'HipLife' style of Ghana.....because of the up tempo danceable effects which is more appealing in parties and dancehalls
We are copying Ghana's highly danceable Hiplife music beats...that is the truth.
Can you cast your mind back to about 5-10 years ago and remember how dull our local music used to be at party dance halls? But now, with the adoption of the Ghana Hiplife style, which fuses fast highlife/rap, virtually all Nigerian musicians and dance halls are now rocking with 'Azonto' beats..... Any Nigerian musician that wants to remain relevant in dance halls now play Azonto/Hiplife beats...Even PSquare had to steal the concept but shamelessly put a another name 'Alingo' on it.

Go listen to many Nigerian musicians who are playing Sarkodie's style....e.g. Olamide's Bend Down Low, Ruggedman, and even PSquare's new song for Glo(Unlimited)....they are all imitations of Ghana's Sarkodie and Guru's style of music


If you do not know, Ghana taught Nigeria our first classical music....Highlife. Even Fela had to go learn and master professional music in Ghana before he became a success in music!

londoner: Azonto was popular way before Wizkid's song. However, Nigerian artists have helped to take the exposure to a higher level in their own small way.

The exposure was not due to Nigerian artists in totality, either. But, Naija artists have helped to sustain and expose it in Nigeria and elsewhere.

D'banj in Oliver Twist, it was taught to Keri Hilson when she came to Naija, JJC in African Skank etc

If Chris mistakenly thought it was Nigerian, its because he did not understand or listen to the track he was dancing to. It states in the song, that he is talking about and to a Ghana girl, he even mentions Ghanaian food (banku) in the song.

Wiz tought him the dance, that is where the mistake came in. Everyone and their mama knows Azonto is and will forever be a Ghanaian dance.

Although the best azonto dancers I have seen are not all Ghanaian.


The funniest thing about the youtube Ghanaian complaining about Alingo, is that in his video title, he could not even spell his own country's name properly.....he must have been really angry....lol

Anyone who is angry about CB's mistake, should direct their animousity to him and not Nigerians generally. We all know Wiz kid did not tell him it is a Nigerian dance......it was CB's assumption. Nigerians here should give credit where due, even though Ghanaian posters here are irrational and throw insults at our dear country at every turn.

honestly, from your English construction you seem to be a born n raised nigerian. in the US there are many yoruba ppl. they shoulda told u more about here. even oyibo man go tell u more about 9ja. and i'd prefer u tell us the way you were viewed "when u visited". you have been here, as u said.

we are all humans and we act differently. nigerians are social and hospitable even to strangers. and we live a communual lifestyle. is easy to blend and find your way around. you got nothing to worry as your skin aint any different. if u were white or mixed-race, then u will surely get attention from the average man. the only difference in u is your accent. need not worry, cos a lot of nigerians fake it. we no no/care who trully be jandon again. in the south, u will have a hard time communicating, cos your accent will sound intimidating to them and they dont accept intimidation. dont go bragging about america, cos u will be expected to back it up with dollar-spending.
