Obinna Metu granted as many interview after running 10.11. I knew it wont last. He cannot repeat it. 10.35 on a world stage. I honestly feel the AFN should stop sponsoring these old men. We can spend the money better on a 16 year old running 10.50. |
10.38 for Nigerian man at Olympics! These guys are really bringing shame on the likes of Ezenwa brothers and Adeniken. Why bother coming to London anyway? |
After months of training for Egwero, he manages to produce this poor start! Nigerian men are very disappointing. Same way Stanley Gbadeke was jumping 5m at an olympics yesterday. Poor. |
oge4real: The most annoying thing is that even if she doesnt win, this will be the last time she will be competing at the Olympics due to old age.You are not talking according to facts. Blessing is the youngest of the sub-11 runners. She's just 23. Amaechi Morton is around 23 max too. So they will be back at the next olympics. |
Amaechi Morton is not injured. Good news. He says the hurdle he hit made him lose momemtum, he is fine and ready for tomorrow. I expect Amaechi to go into the final at least. |
Blessing surely in toughest heat. She's favourite to win the heat. If all goes well, I expect Ahoure to also qualify as well as Madison. Which means Keron Stewart will not make the final. It will be fast tomorrow! |
proudly9ja: The women don't seem to have a dominant athlete in the 100m. We might just sneak a medal (or twoI think it will be tough for Gloria Asumnu to enter the final. But Blessing will win her semi-final tomorrow evening and win a medal. |
OK. Damola not so fit. 11.36 and she's out of the 100m. She can run the relay qualifiers but not the main race. I think Christy Udoh should take Damola's space. Damola is a star, but her training has been skewed by over-preparation. She pushed herself too hard. |
The time run by Damola Osayomi in the next heat will go a long way in determining the fate of our 4x100 relay team. I hope Damola can run around 11.20 |
African record is going to be smashed in the semi-final. This Blessing is a real blessing for Nigeria |
10.93!!! People are you seeing what I'm SAWWW |
Up Next...Nigeria's queen of track. Blessing Okagbare!! Asumnu ran 11.13. Fast! |
Gloria Asumnu takes 3rd and qualifies. All these heats turning out sub 11. Okagbare too will go sub 11. Oya |
Gloria Asumnu about to run. She should take this |
regina George wins her heat. She gets a good lane for the semi-final. She means business. Her heat was fast, so Lara Omotosho is out! Good for Nigeria with Regina. @hollandis, lets meet tomorrow at the stadium... |
100m heat lane is out. Gloria Asumnu goes first in heat 3 at 7:21 pm . She's running beside Veronica Campbell brown. I expect Gloria to go through. Blessing Okagbare squares up to Tiana Madison 8 minutes later in heat 4. A tough heat, but Blessing will run 11.10 to win it. Then Damola Osayomi in the final heat. A tough one, but Damola can go through if she is fully fit. I still doubt her fitness though. |
hollandis: Yes I am here live ,its been confirmed omotosho is out ,Regina is our only option ,she is about to startAre you coming for the evening session? |
akintun: Disappointing 4 Omotosho, I dont think she would qualify after a 52.11She's just unlucky to be running in the rain. I doubt if she can make it through. She's as good as out. She goes to prepare for the relays. |
hollandis: Her heat was the fastest ,Ennis in position 1 overall so far was also in her heat .I wonder what omotosho's strength because we have javelin and long jump later todayI just want her to surpass the 6,100 points barrier. She can do it. hollandis, are you in London?? |
So far so OK for Nigeria. Uhunoma Osazuwa ranks 14th after 1 event in the heptathlon, while Amaechi Morton has qualified easily into the semi-final. he can go home now to rest. Coming up...Blessing okagbare, Gloria Asumnu and more of Uhunoma Osazuwa. |
I expect better olympics news for team Nigeria from Today onwards. Athletics starts in about 8 hours and Nigerians should forget this shameful basketball defeat. Meanwhile, D Tigers are not out, they still have 2 games to play. If they manage to win 1 of them, they can go through. |
Nigeria simply didnt turn up! |
They clearly lack the Nigerian zeal! |
Americans practising shooting, we're stretching our legs! We should not set out to chase now |
The time is nigh! |
So what happens if Nigeria ACTUALLY beats USA tonight? Will all of you come back here to apologise to our players for insulting their ability and desire? |
honeric01: Any Nigerian by name representing another country is NOT a Nigerian whether you like it or not.I agree with you. Out of sheer curiousity, I will try to compile the number of medals won by Nigerians at this Olympics. By Nigerians, I mean those who bear 9ja names but represent other countries. In the Team GB, they're many: Andrew Osagie(800m), Christine Ohurogu(400), Tiffany Porter(100mH), Anthony Ogogo (Boxing)...etc. |
Almost forgot Uhunoma Osazuwa in the heptathlon. I wish her luck. She's in at 10:37 friday Morning for the 100m Hurdles. I expect a PB from her here. |
Athletics update. Startlists now released. Amaechi Morton is first Nigeria to go out on Friday morning. He goes out at 11:15 in heat 1, he is in lane 5 and his PB is 2nd best in the line-up. Top 3 go through. It will be a nice sweat breaker for him. Should win or come 2nd if he relaxes to save energy. Young Lara Omotosho goes out in at 12:15 in the 400m women. She is in a relatively tough line-up, but she should qualify as 3rd. I am sure Lara will set a new PB in this olympics. No shakings there. At 12:48, Regina George comes in heat 7. I expect her to come in 2nd or 3rd at least. First round should be comfortable for Nigerian gals. The draws for round 1 of women's 100m is not yet out. I am waiting to confirm that Damola Osayomi has been allowed to compete. She is such a fine athlete. |
Nigeria places 8th in weightlifting after Felix Ekpo managed 331Kg in the 77Kg men. |
She should be happy to win her 1st fight, talk less of winning gold. She's not Nigeria's best boxer. She was only lucky at the qualification in China. A younger boxer in weight class than her, Kehinde Obareh always spars her well. Please expect nothing from this lady. She's all talks. Our first medal contender is Mariam Usman in Weightlifting +77kg women. |
Echoes of 1996....No comments till midnight tomorrow. Most of you were not there when these guys came from almost 20 down against Greece to beat them ooo. Anyways Olympics just got serious. Watch out for AL-FAROUK AMINU! and IKE DIOGU. Those boys are Killers. NOt to mention the 'dagger' himself. DAGUNDURO. The meaning of his name is to stop the war. He will do just that tomorrow. |
