Arsenal Football Club vs Stoke City RUGBY club. A game of two styles.
Sports › Re: Nigeria Vs Italy: U-20 Women's World Cup (4 - 0) On Sunday August-26-2012 by olapluto(m): 1:50am On Aug 26, 2012
Nigeria can afford to lose the match by 1-0. We will still qualify with 4 points and a better goals difference. The coach should start looking at group A and our likely opponents in the quarters.
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Issues In Dangote’s Graduate Drivers Scheme By Jarus by olapluto(m): 5:42pm On Aug 22, 2012
Someone tell me the difference between Dangote's program and a billionaire looking for a phd holder to help him mow his lawn for a big pay. The only thing good about it is the paltry pay. If a billionaire comes tomorrow to employ phd holders to help him cut bush for 1m naira monthly, folks will apply because it puts food on table. But what happens when money becomes less important?
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Issues In Dangote’s Graduate Drivers Scheme By Jarus by olapluto(m): 1:01pm On Aug 22, 2012
Dangote is not helping Nigeria with this program, he is rather compunding our brain drain to brain flush. Even if we all admit that our universities are not producing 'dandawi' graduates who cannot propose advancement in their individual fields, it still doesnt warrant them going to drive trailer.
If we take our eyes off the 'providing employment' and 'feeding family' rhetorics, we will see that this doesnt bode well for our country. Today, it is Dangote employing our JOBLESS graduates to drive trucks. Tomorrow, it may be an Indian businessman putting BSc as minimum requirement for toilet-washing or cleaning his office.
Over time, the term 'graduate' will mean nothing in Nigeria because we're actively destroying everything needed to rebuild Nigeria. We need someone to help harness the large human resources and channel it into proper use, not someone who will harness it destructively.
Families will be fed, yes. Employment created, yes. But individual and national advancement, NO.
Travel › Re: Nigerians have good jobs in UK (enough Of Sad Stories) by olapluto(m): 2:39pm On Aug 12, 2012
UK still rewards merit. I do not know any Nigerian who graduated with a 1st class in a UK university and is jobless for a long time. 3 of my friends got offers within 2 months of graduation. Some of these companies help them sort out visa issues, but not all.
Having said that, things are changing a lot. UK is going broke, and that is obviously having its toll on foreigners, no matter how intelligent you are. Just last month, an advert for job was put up by the coy I work for. We needed 4 grads and got over 200 applications. This is a specialised field and the requirements were strict in the first instance. I was highly surprised by the number of applications. It used to be that once you get a 2:1, you're safe. Now 1st class is no longer safe, so I think folks must be ready to go extra mile.
Sports › Re: London 2012: Nigeria Was Disqualified In 4x400 Women's Relay by olapluto(m): 9:11pm On Aug 11, 2012
Nigeria was disqualified for what Regina George did (I think). I love what she did, but it wasnt legal. She jumped places rather than wait for the baton. I think she also clashed with Sherry Drayton. I think she has shown enough zeal. Three of the gals who ran for us will be peaking around the next olympics, I believe we have hope for then, if only our administrators are ready.

Sports › Re: Nigeria Olympic Thread...to Be Updated Regularly by olapluto(op): 12:34pm On Aug 10, 2012
As the olympics rounds up, I can only pray for that single medal! 2 more days, 2 more days! Nigeria willbe disgraced if no medal shows face. I am afraid of the pressure this puts on the remaining contenders. We have hope. We have 2 of our best medal hopes still left in wrestling and taekwando. Lets keep hoping. If Nigeria does not win a medal at this olympics, I will be sad. Sad not because we're poor, bur sad because luck deserted us. Blessing Okagbare's performance is still fresh in my mind. I hope she can redeem herself tonight and anchor the gals home. But she is injured. I think the relay team was disrupted by the drugs scandal of Lawretta Ozoh. Christy Udoh is really young and the stage is challenging her. I think the olympics might be her 1st big appearance after the African champs.

semid4lyfe: No be na wa, na real wa!

Do these athletes have coaches at all huh
And to think of all the months of training and preparation, qualification tournaments and all that. All that for just 48 seconds in the olympics? Na real shame. I think Goodluck is not with us

Thats what they call knock-out in boxing. She came aggresively, but took a counter-punch. Too easy
Sports › Re: Nigeria Olympic Thread...to Be Updated Regularly by olapluto(op): 2:13pm On Aug 09, 2012
They shake hands and start. Amarachi pouncing and attacking. Chinese just sempe. Amarachi down by 1 point as she tries to be too clever.
Match over!!! Nigeria out. Counter attack to bad. Shame

I'm still watching it on my phone. My team members are not yet back. Amarachi in with 2 coaches all wearing green. She will fight from the blue corner. She takes on a chinese. Coach Igali ringside!

onyxo76: can someone tell me if there is a difference between us and the jamaican athletes? they seem to be getting better with every olympic year while we are getting poorer with regards to performance.
we used to be very good in boxing, weight lifting etc but nowadays even the those events have been taken over by other countries.
We can beat the Jamaicans strenght for strength. We have what it takes to produce 10 Usain Bolts, but I doubt we're ready to do so. We do not have the structures. The rot that has eaten into Nigeria has affected the sports really badly. We are saving face with football, but it wont last. I know that we have boys that can run 10.50 at 15 years. SOme can run 10.20 if properly trained. If a 15 year old runs 10.20, he will run below 10 seconds by the time he's 17/18. Thats how Jamaica did it. they have their national secondary schools competition. It is like the biggest thing in Jamaica. They know their next stars from 16 yr old. Imagine if every state in Nigeria is to produce 3 boys running 10.30s at 16 yrs.
Things are really bad on the administration side too. Corruption! All the money meant for the athletes are being swallowed by the federation presidents and secretaries. I know of the last Judo trials when athletes had to sleep on the floor in Abuja stadium. The athletes are short-changed, they are neglected during injury, and only expected to perform at olympics.
If tomorrow, the minister sets up a National secondary school track and field meet, you will be surprised to find that some raw talents will perform better than our olympians.
