Do you want to survive or thrive? The only thing that keeps the Mullahs in power in Iran is that the people can't kick them out. Same with North Korea and Venezuela.

I know the pain that my inability to use PayPal is causing me due to PMB's forex controls. Talk less of the damage sanctions such as those heaped on Russia!

If Iran was a democracy, do you think the Mullahs would be in power? Or the rocket man in North Korea or Maduro in Venezuela? They are only interested in holding on to piwer. The welfare of their cotizens comes a distant second.

Putin is a dictator. He has hold on to power for 22 years or so. Under a true democracy, he should have been out after 2 terms.
How many mullahs are in power in iran?they are just supreme leaders in decision making process

The primary reason why the country imports refined oils boils down to the existence of price controls and the refusal to privatize the government owned refineries. The solution is simple but unpalatable.

Solution is to end petrol subsidies and deregulate the price of petrol. The price of diesel has long been deregulated.

With deregulation, the private sector will have the incentive to set up refineries. The few private refineries in Nigeria only produce diesel because the price is deregulated, that means set by market forces. Nobody will want to refine petrol as long as government fixes the price, especially below market value.

Dangote has already said he would be selling his products at the international price. He also fought for the deregulation of the price of petrol in the recently passed oil and gas bill. The price was supposed to have been deregulated in July this year but because 2023 is an election year, this has been postponed till next year.

However, once Dangotes refinery is up and going, it should satisfy the country's need.
This are textbook theories ,nigeria is not the only oil producing countryn, but the only opec memeber that imports refined products from europe. All this theories applies onlly to Nigeriia right.i dont believe in all what you have written.we have crude ans inport refined products ,we have coacoa and import chocolates ,etc.Same template ,all this theories are not true. You want to create a monoploy from a single producer and refinery and you are writing market economy theories.

Homegrown solutions and poverty can not be divorced. They are "make-do" schemes and usually a poor replacement for the real thing.

International trade is based on a win/win. Basically, I cook the food, you do the dishes. Export your strengths to others, and import their strengths into yours. I'm talking here about comparative advantage.

Some years back, the governor of Ondo state, was miffed when the North stopped shipment of food products to the South. This angered the then governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko, who decided to start the planting of peppers and other ingredients in Ondo state.

I laughed at the idea. I knew it was going to fail. Why? Because it is not our strength. I'm not doubting Ondo can produce these crops but not to the degree up North. The scheme failed. Ondo is good in Cocoa, Kola nuts and plantain for instance. The states "exports" several trailers of these products to the North almost on a daily basis.

Home grown solutions rarely ever match what it replaces. And even when it does, it's in economies that are still wide open for business and not one under heavy sanctions like Russia. The home grown solution is instituted through protectionist policies. For instance, China limited the use of foreign credit card providers like Visa and Mastercard. It now has homegrown giants like Union pay.

No matter how smart a people are, you need the right economic environment to succeed. Look at Nigerians: the same Nigerians, who are failing here, when they emigrate to the US, they excel.

Russia is largely dependent on commodities. This is a shame considering the wealth of education it had when the Soviet Union collapsed. I am sure it still has a massive pool.

Unfortunately for the economy, Putin has focused more in keeping himself in power for life, and supporting his corrupt cronies and himself has made Russia a rent seeker paradise and a commodity exporter. If at the best of times, it could not harness the power of its education pool, is it under chronic sanctions it will achieve that? Please perish the thought.
crashing Russian markets, ending foreign investment, destroying the ruble, a full trade embargo, expelling Russia from the community of nations, and many more are normal excercies ,Iran has been dealing with the same thing for four decades, and survived.

ultimate game changer. Why is nigeria doing swap deals ?crude for refined oil ,with no refineries for more than 25 years? And you dont see anything wrong and you think its the leadership?we are victims of colonization.

Have you heard about the euro asia economic forum, the shangai coporation ,Brics ,BRI etc. This are new markets and alliances that will cushion effects of sanctions on Russia. The sanctions will empower russia and its citizens the more. You are writing about international trade, russia became a memeber of the WTO just recently few tears back it has home grown cosumers ,that can consume what is produced.just watch the new world envolve.Russia pumps 7million barrels per day,no country can replace that output easily.Higher oil and gas prices in europe will lead to protest with effects on election outcomes.

Splitting of India and creating Pakistan and Bangladesh as sperate counties was actually part of the destruction of original India. They never asked for it but Britain had to do it for selfish reasons.

Secondly, India actually undeveloped scientifically and technologically as a result of Western invasion. India was already shipping steel and textile around the world before Britain got there. In fact, British consumers preferred Indian textile before Britain arrived India. Britain was a struggling country then known for low quality fake products. But the capacity for local production in India had to be destroyed so that India could get their supply from Britain instead. So, Indians unfortunately, went from using high quality textile manufactured by themselves to importing low quality textile from Britain at exorbitant price. This was a common colonial strategy to destroy the natives, including here in Africa.

For anybody who needs more information, everything I've said here is contained in the book: inglorious empire- what the British did to India. Author: Sashi Tharor.
For the African part, read: How Europe underdeveloped Africa. Author: Walter Rodney.

No country would have been as powerful as India if colonialism didn't happen.
I appreciate you ,you even quoted books unlike some people using emotions to analyse issues.

Iran did not survive the sanctions! Its governments did. The Mullahs did. Its people are suffering

Putin will survive the sanctions but life for the average Russian will be much harder. As long as Putin is determined to stay in power, the masses be damned. There will be lots of emigration from Russia to other parts of the world, seeking a better life

It is the Russian people that will pay the heaviest price, and not Putin
The government simply means the people or large percentage of the people because they have home grown democracies. How ever ,Russia has a smart population ,and they will develop home grown solutions. But other emerging powers already see these sanctions and will protect themselves in the future. And lastly ,most european airlines make more profit from long distance journey,s to Asia and the route path is russia ,so some airline will close shop ,also because the alternative route is far and will be more expensive for the travelling public.so nobody is immune. If he decides to close the pipe of Gas next winter, there are no alternatives to russian gas .

Whether India buys or does not buy Russian oil, the Russian economy is already in trouble. Half of those sanctions are enough to cripple any country. Do you know what it means when commercial airlines can not fly to your country?

Biden has said the sanctions will not be permanent but will depend on Russia putting an end to its invasion of Ukraine. That, however, won't stop Putin.

Innoson has no reason to fail again.

IVM has enjoyed massive patronage by government at different levels at different times. Peter obi paid upfront for hundreds of IVM products, Rochas purchased a lot of IVM vehicles. Many governors and even the federal government have given priority to IVM both in the past and in the present.

This gesture of governor Soludo will go a long way to boost demand for IVM by members of Anambra top echelon who would do it simply to curry favor from the governor. This reminds me of the increased demand for green cap during the brief reign of former governor Ihedioha of Imo.

I want to commend IVM for their steadfastness so far. I equally want to remind them that government patronage alone will not sustain them in business in the long run. They should also give attention to the needs of their non government customers. They can achieve this by bringing the specifications and price of their products to the public domain. Currently there are little or no information about their vehicles in public domain
But what are the continuity plans if anything happens to the owners
