EducationRe: Civil Servants Sending Their Children To Private Universities Are Corrupt – ASUU by OlaSammie: 9:21am On Aug 23, 2017
majekdom2:
It baffles me when Nigerians cannot comprehend a simple post. If you check well, the structures that don't work well in Nigeria are those Nigerians created alternatives to themselves but when one looks at it thoroughly it's a case of enriching the ruling class in the midst of this decadence. I ll give 3 instances.
1. Our Educational Institutions: We started with overseas travelling as alternative, then the rise of private universities. The man just said there are 200 private universities waiting to be licensed. It's not like the quality of education in these private university is even world class. Pls don't get me wrong, I am not against private universities. What happens in the end. These private institutions pay tax. Isn't it good business for a government that perhaps care less.
2. Our electricity and power system: we had Generators as alternatives. So the government makes money from import quota's and tax paid by companies that sell generators.
3. Health care: same as educational system.
So, how can a poor man leave his poverty state. Is this really sustainable??
I love this thread! Thank God we still have people that think like this in Nigeria. Maybe there is still hope for this country afterall.

faceURfront:
After reading some comments here and several other comments in different fora, I realised we have a serious problem

1. The only person that speaks for ASUU are national officials, especially the National President. Any other person talking is expressing his personal opinion.

2. There is so much ignorance in this country.
And the most annoying thing is people make conclusive statements without any facts. Imagine somebody here saying the Dr earns nothing less than 400k per month. Well let that fellow know that you can have a PhD and still earn below 150k (which is an improved pay package as a result of several strikes someone called useless). Pay is dependent on rank not academic qualification. Yes academic qualification is a major factor in rank determination, depending on mode of entry into the system and some discipline, a PhD holder can earn less than 150k and a non PhD holder can earn way above 150k.

3. Before you go calling ASUU strikes useless, please note that ALL ETF projects you see on our university campuses are results of ASUU struggles. When was the last time you saw any new project in any university that is not an ETF project? From lecture halls to offices, labs to ICT centres, libraries to sports facilities and school clinics. Imagine if ASUU folded her hands and kept mute, public universities would have long gone extinct and let's see how many people can send their children to private universities...on how much that workers are being paid in this sorry country? Which brings me to the issue of civil servants sending their children to private universities.

4. Besides high ranking civil servants, majority of civil servants earn less than 150k per month. And we are talking about the Federal level. State civil servants earn less. But let's even assume a civil servant earns 300k per month. He has to feed, transport, pay for medical care, fuel his car(s), take care of family members every now and then ( remember we are in africa) fuel his generator and save some to either pay his annual rent, or save towards building his house or payoff loans he took to build his house or buy a car. Which money will he use in sending his children to private universities? Remember if he has just a child in the universities, most likely others are in the secondary school where fees are already sky rocketing. I can confidently say a civil servant who sends his children to private universities must be making money besides his salary, and given the level of corruption in this country, the probability that he is stealing that money is high.
God bless you for seeing this differently. I was also surprised with most of the comments. Like they took it personal...lol
EducationRe: Civil Servants Sending Their Children To Private Universities Are Corrupt – ASUU by OlaSammie:
Statsocial:
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has noted that civil servants who send their children to Nigeria’s private universities are corrupt.

ASUU chairman, University of Ibadan chapter, Dr Deji Omole, who spoke in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Sunday pointed out that civil servant with children in private universities in Nigeria must be stealing.

The ASUU chairman spoke when he received a delegation of labour movement led by the Chairman NLC Oyo State, Waheed Olojede who paid a solidarity visit to ASUU in UI on the ongoing strike.

He said, “It is unfortunate that we have to go on strike again, for as long as we continue have bandits in government, we shall continue to struggle. It is sad that in Nigeria that we pay lip service to public education.

“They do not want us to have functional education so that they can continue to exploit us. Our presidents will first visit international communities for endorsement after their election and come back. The only problem they have is ASUU.

“There are about 200 applicants for private universities that they want to give license.

“They had wanted to sell public universities to themselves but ASUU resisted. How many of us can legitimately send our children to private universities?

Our parents have served them, we are serving them now and they are already planning so that our children will serve them.

“The ruling class are united against the masses. All these ethnic jingoists are being sponsored by those who have lost out of the equation.

“Where is the place of the masses in the restructuring? Our oppressors are united. God loves the poor, he created them more than the rich, and it is left to the poor to use their size to chase away oppressors.”

The policy of producing our own food and reducing imports for now is not a bad idea if you ask me.
But l wish to see a new party separate from PDP and APC.
I agree with you but that statement he made about Nigerians comparing bag of rice etc is very annoying. So because we want to start local production,80% of us should starve to death abi.

It's the government responsibility to make life better for the citizens. We can produce locally and still have food to eat na. It's just that we love to make excuses for our government.

AnonyNymous:
Maybe if Jonathan had won in 2015 we would have appreciated Buhari more. Not to say that his govt hasn't messed up but people aren't seeing the positive side. They're only comparing bag of rice, beans, price of fuel, etc. In a country of so called eduacted people. The ones that even know refuse to educate the uneducated. Do you know how expensive Kerosene is in other countries? Kerosene is jet fuel, and its very expensive, the government has just been wasting money to be able to provide it his cheap it is. But I know that if all these useless subsidies we don't deserve get removed, Nigerians will wake up and figure out alternative ways. Just like how we're figuring out how to grow our own rice because imported rice is expensive. I don't see any serious challenger for 2019. All the politicians I see are just campaigning based on the 'surface conditions' and not telling Nigerians the truth. They're not campaigning because they actually want to serve us, they're campaigning because they want power. We don't have democracy in Africa yet, instead we just 'elect kings'. I might likely still vote for Buhari or Osibanjo in 2019 unless I see another candidate with a well laid out plan and specifics on how they intend to achieve it.
Like seriously?? undecided

So because we're educated we should not have access to the most essential thing of life(food)huh

Waka pass!
Lol...Uncle calm down!

The truth is that the water-logged pitch isn't the main problem but the fact that a lot of things isn't right with our local league(e.g not paying players salaries etc).

Maybe the pictures the OP posted might be shallow and probably didn't depict the wrongs in our local league, but the truth is that players are looking for greener pastures in those same places you compared Nigeria to.

So if our local league is near the standard of those places, why are our players struggling to go there? Besides, who said our local league can't be better.

It's very important for us(citizens) to start clamouring for better things across all spheres of our life in this country,we have settled too much for mediocrity so we think it's okay if things continue to go on like this.

Sir,look beyond the water-logged picture. We all know it's actually way beyond that.

This is bad press.

Nigeria isn't the only country where torrential rains disrupts sports schedule due to the inability to deploy state of the art facilities. Even in Europe, many countries suffer the same fate. Not all countries are wealthy like UK, Germany, Spain etc. And even in these countries, when you go down their leagues to the 3rd and 4th tier, you meet facilities like ours which are easily affected by weather conditions.

If Nigeria is not as rich as the UK, how do you expect our facilities to meet their standards?

The NPFL can improve a whole lot but not with cheap and needless attack as this.
Here they go again! Defending shameful things.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Why Majority Of Nigerian University Graduates Are Un-employed by OlaSammie: 1:32pm On Jul 23, 2017
Threebear:
huh
Most senseless post I've ever come across.
A real country does not wait for her citizens to create the right aptitude to be employable. It makes her citizens employable by fitting them in, in whichever level their skill sets permits.
People like you are the reason why our leaders keeps taking us for granted, you give them flimsy excuses. Nigeria has failed her youths and people and someone like you turn around to blame the people for not being able to secure Jobs which were not really there to begin with.
You must have drank ogorogo this morning.
God bless you sir for this post. The government feel they can get away with anything(which they do) because they know some people somewhere will still find a way to defend their actions.

I don't just know why we(citizens) can't stand up against our government that has failed us on all levels. At times when some people come up with this type of plan, they get shut down by others who will always have a reason why the government isn't performing well. A good example is the 2face protest that eventually didn't go as planned.

I don't think there is anything wrong if the OP decides to get a degree abroad(from a reputable school sha).

Don't mind those saying you should go to UI or UNILAG o. If you can get a good school that you are VERY SURE of,please go o.

In some years to come, computer related courses will dominate everywhere so I don't think the OP is will have any cause to regret as long as he studies in a good school abroad.

And as for those saying he should not work for someone, those working for Apple,Microsoft,Facebook nko.

I also want to study abroad o(computer engineering),please I need help(scholarships and the likes).

I scored 284 in my UTME and I want to study Computer Engineering in UNILORIN.

My SSCE:

Maths: B3
Eng: C4
Chem: B3
Phy: B2
F.maths: B2

I think I should change to OAU because they use 8 subjects in O'level which favours me well and I am scared of UNILORIN because I am not from the catchment areas and I don't know how they do their screening.

Anyone who knows how UNILORIN does their screening should please let me know.
