swiz123:
write us a short note on history of political parties in Nigeria
There was a point in political history of Nigeria that Nigerians were not allowed to have a say in the government of their country.
This ugly phenomenon was not only peculiar to Nigeria but to other British west African colonies of Ghana,Gambia, sierra Leone.
In other to put an end to this, educated elites from these four states came together and formed National congress for British west Africa(NCBWA) in Ivory coast in the present day Ghana, 1920.
This movement provided avenue through which these educated elites aired their views through one voice.
Among its many objectives, was introduction of elective principle into British west Africa colonies.
They actually sent delegation to London to the then secretary of the state in the person of lord Miner.
They demanded for many things including the introduction of elective principle to the various colonies of Britain.

Though, their requests were not granted them, sir Hugh Clifford later in his constitution introduced elective principle into Nigeria political system. Three posts were allotted Nigerians in the legislative council prior manned by the whites.
In other to elect people to man the posts, sir Herbert Macaulay formed first political party in the history of Nigeria politics called Nigerian national Democratic party in year 1923.
The party was later followed by NYM,NCNC,AG,NPC and soon
