The Lagos state police command have arrested 36 years old Imeh Akpan, for allegedly raping his wife's 15 years old sister, for 10 years. Parading Imeh before newsmen at the state police command in Ikeja today April 13th, the state police commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, said "The teenager has been living with him since she was small. He started raping her when she was five-year-old. She lives with him and his wife, who’s her step-sister and he has been defiling her since then. But he was eventually caught at the weekend after the girl ran out of the house and was rescued by some policemen". When interrogated, the victim whose name was not disclosed, said her sister's husband who she refers to as Daddy, raped her last Sunday "My daddy (suspect) raped me because my mummy travelled to Akwa Ibom last Wednesday. I was sleeping on Sunday, around 10pm, my daddy came and removed my clothes and slept with me. He used the towel to cover my eye and my mouth but I was still shouting and crying. He said nobody will come and help me. So, I ran out of the house when i got chance. After I ran out, I begged my neighbour to give me phone to talk to my mummy (half sister) and he said there is no credit in his phone. So, I ran towards the police station at the roundabout. On my way there, I saw one man who asked me where I was going. I told him everything and the man said he will take me to police station and to human right. So, he now took me to hotel that I should come and sleep in hotel till morning before he will take me to the station. I followed the man and I now said I cannot sleep with him inside the hotel. When I wanted to close my eyes, I was now seeing the man as if his hand was touching me in my dream. I could not close my eyes. Around 3am, I told the man I want to go and ease myself and he allowed me. The man now said since I want to go and report everything at police station that he will use his own money and that the money will be N50, 000, that I should do him a favour and enter the room. I did but the man wanted to rape me also and I shouted before the owner of the hotel came and opened the door. That was how I ran outside. As I was walking on the road, policemen saw me and I told them everything and they called one Okada man to take me to Lion Building. He has slept with me two times. The first time was last year. I told my mummy everything when she came back from church because my daddy told her that I ran out of the house. When I told her, she believed me but when my uncle now denied, he claimed that I left the door open and someone entered the house" she said The suspect claimed he was drunk and did not know when he committed the crime "She is like my daughter and it is an abomination for me to sleep with her. I have been the one training her since she was a baby. I was drunk and I did not know anything. It was the police that invited me and told me I raped her. I did not even know. It is only this once I have done it. I do not know what came over me,” he said. The police say he will soon be charged to court. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/04/photo-man-arrested-for-allegedly-raping.html

The Federal Government has said that it is ready to receive Nigerians serving various jail terms in different prisons across the world. This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Francis Enobore, the Spokesperson of the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS). The statement said the decision followed the Prison Transfer Agreement entered with the governments of the various countries involved. A former governor of Delta state, Mr James Ibori, is among some high-profile Nigerians currently serving jail terms in the United Kingdom. According to the statement, Dr Peter Ekpendu, the Comptroller-General of the NPS made the disclosure during an inspection visit to the Kuje Medium Security Prison. The Minister of Interior, retired Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, and officials of the UK Embassy in Nigeria were among dignitaries that paid the inspection visit. “Our prisons are ready. We are ready to receive the prisoners anytime they are brought back,” the statement quoted Ekpendu as saying. Earlier, Dambazau cleared the air on the speculation that government was concentrating on developing the Kuje Prison as it normally hosts high-profile inmates. “Our concentration is not just on Kuje prison but some prisons in other states, including the Kirikiri Prison. “We are hoping that by the time the budget is signed and we get our releases, we are going to embark on renovation of some prisons, capacity building and reinforcement of security. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/04/nigeria-to-receive-ibori-others-from-uk.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 “The prisoners exchange agreement is quiet at an advanced stage, but there are a lot of issues involved. “First of all, we have to clear that, legally, in terms of the rights of the prisoner, so that we do not violate any and there are still other issues that we are considering,” the minister said. |

The Nigerian Senate says it is open to restore the controversial Lagos-Calabar rail project into the 2016 budget if the Federal government sends in a supplementary budget. Spokesperson of the senate, Abdullahi Sabi, stated this while speaking to journalists at the National Assembly today April 12th. The Presidency and the National Assembly members have been at loggerheads in the last 48 hours after a source in the Presidency alleged that the lawmakers fraudulently removed the project from the budget. The senate in a statement it released yesterday, denied the claims and also asked for the resignation of Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi. Read what the senate spokesperson said about the matter below... “What we issued yesterday is our position. What we did today was to confirm. I will definitely remain guided by the tenets of the constitution. That the Lagos-Calabar project was not in the budget does not undermine its importance. The national assembly is open; whenever the executive brings the supplementary budget regarding the project, it will be honoured. But we must remain guided by the constitution. That we pass the budget has not ended our responsibility. We have to move to oversight functions. We know it is an important project and we are ready to honour it. The way forward is that we have passed budget, and we are saying bring a supplementary appropriation bill.” http://www.metronaija.com/2016/04/we-are-open-to-restore-lagos-calabar.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |

There is no result yet for Ife Central State Constituency in Osun State. The Independent National Electoral Commission declared the collated result from 11 wards inconclusive and ordered fresh polls in two polling units, where voting was disrupted by hoodlums on Sarurday. The Returning Officer, Dr Francis Oladimeji, who made the announcement said the result could not be declared because of the violence. According to him, fresh election would be held today in the two affected polling units, Agbedegbede and Moore Ojaja, both in Ward Three in Ife Central State Constituency. He explained that the report of violence recorded at the two polling units led to the cancellation of 872 votes, saying the margin between the two leading candidates was 710, making it imperative to conduct a fresh election, as stipulated in the Electoral Act. Dr Oladimeji further explained that the number of cancelled votes exceeded the difference between the two leading candidates. Suspected political thugs had earlier disrupted voting at the two polling units, with attempts to snatch ballot boxes from INEC ad-hoc staff The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said Saturday’s council elections in the Federal Capital Territory did not hold in two polling units due to card reader failure. National Commissioner in the commission, Prof. Anthonia Simbine, made this known in Abuja on Saturday while briefing newsmen on the election. Simbine, however, announced that arrangement had been made for the exercise to be conducted in the affected units on Sunday. According to her, the polling units involved are Dabi Village Square Unit 002, Pai Ward, Kwali and Dabo Fulani in Gwagwa, AMAC. She said that the card reader stalled the conduct of the election in the units, explaining that at the time the technical challenge would have been resolved, “it would have been too late to begin election in the wards’’. The commissioner charged all voters in the affected areas to come out today as INEC officials were billed to arrive at 7 a.m. to begin the conduct of the election. “As of now, we have just two polling units where election will be repeated. It may be more than that at the end of the day but right now we are sure of two. “In Pai ward, we are going to repeat the exercise by tomorrow, also in Gwagwa (AMAC); the card reader malfunctioned and the voters waited patiently in those places. “They are going to have opportunity to vote tomorrow,” she said. On the general conduct of the election, Simbine said that the process was peaceful except for skirmishes reported in few areas. According to her, slight violence was reported in Wuse but it was taken care of by security operatives. “In Tunga Karshi, we had to evacuate our staff and in that particular place about 150 voters were affected. “We had to completely stop the voting process to ensure safety of our staff. “We would not be repeating elections in Karshi because the voters there have demonstrated that they do not want to vote. “Moreover, there is nothing to show that there would be no violence if we choose to repeat election in that area,” she said. On the possibility of announcing the elections results on Saturday, Simbine said that collation was still ongoing and that the results were expected to start trickling into headquarters from midnight. She expressed satisfaction at the conduct of the election “and the doggedness of the officials and the voters in spite of the heavy rainfall’’. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/04/inec-conducted-fresh-polls-in-2-units.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |
Petrol pump price has risen to between N200 and N250 in Awka, capital of Anambra state, east of Nigeria. The price rose as the product became scarce in the city . NAN reports that most stations were under lock and key as a result of unavailability of the product; while few stations that opened were selling for between N200 and N250 per liter. According to NAN, the only petrol station selling at the official pump price of N86.70 kobo in the city was NNPC mega station with long queue. Some of the transporters who spoke with NAN on conditions of anonymity said that they arrived at the NNPC mega station at 6 a.m. after searching hard for stations selling at official pump price. Mr Kenechukwu Ifemeje, a commuter at one of the fuel stations who purchased the product at N250 said that Nigerians were currently undergoing hardship posed by scarcity of fuel product. Ifemeje expressed optimism that the situation would change for better in few days time, saying that the independent marketers had made the product available at Apapa port, Lagos State. He urged the government to listen to the plea of the masses, adding that cost of living had soared and making lives unbearable, especially for civil servants. NAN reports that transport fare from Arroma to Eke Awka has risen to N70 as against N50 while motor-bikes now charge N150 as against N200 a drop. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/04/filling-station-sells-petrol-for-n250.html |

The candidates of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday differed over the credibility of the council polls in Abaji Area Council. While the PDP candidates alleged some discreet manipulations in favour of the APC, saying it could affect the outcome of the elections, however, the latter expressed confidence in the exercise. The incumbent Chairman of Abaji Area Council and PDP candidate, Alhaji Yahaya Garba alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) manipulated the process in favour of APC. “There is connivance in this election because voters have been denied their franchise in some polling units. “In my polling unit, Janmigbe 003, there is no result sheet and we confirmed that the sheet was given to the presiding officer. “We don’t know what has happened. Where did the sheet go? Somebody had to travel all the way from Gawu to Abaji before the election was allowed to hold,” he said. Garba added: “When voting finally began, after about three or four people voted, they said that the two card readers there had failed. We said they should allow voting to continue manually, but the presiding officer refused. “The same thing is happening in Mawogi 005. So, I see this as connivance between the electoral officer and the APC. We have complained to the INEC electoral officer and he said that some officials were coming to resolve the situation, but up till now, we have not seen anybody. “The turnout is impressive, security arrangement is okay but INEC officials, I can tell you are biased,” he alleged. When NAN contacted the Electoral Officer, Mr Fayor Emmanuel, he confirmed the problem with result sheet and card readers but denied any manipulations. “There was a problem of result sheet but the issue has since been solved; you have to understand that the distance from here to Gawu is far. “I sought permission from my headquarters and I was allowed to appoint some other officials to take the result sheets and conduct the elections there. “They said that the Presiding Officer absconded from duty but I’ve sent other officials to replace him; I’ve not been able to get in touch with him even on phone.” On the issue of card reader, Emmanuel said: “I sent my technical staff there to rectify it and those voters that card readers did not capture, we have Incidence Forms. “These politicians are just too difficult and I am fed up because no matter what you do, they will just make a big issue out of no issue,” he said. On his part, the APC chairmanship candidate, Abdulrahman Ajiya, commended the peaceful nature of the election, saying “the process is credible’’. “So far, the election has been peaceful, the situation is calm as you can see at least for now and we hope it remains like that. On the card reader malfunctioning, we’ve been calling on the electoral officer to quickly respond. For now, most of the complaints have been rectified. “I have confidence in the process because power belongs to God and I believe He will give it to the right person in this election,” he said. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/04/apc-pdp-candidates-fight-over-fairness.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |

Chief Magistrate Omolade Awope had observed that the accused was feeling uncomfortable and jittery in the dock and ordered that a thorough body search be conducted on him. Following the search, assorted objects suspected to be charms were found hidden under the dress of the 41-year-old accused, Ibrahim Umaru. As a result of the shocking discovery, the chief magistrate deferred the trial of the suspected fraudster to June 10. Umaru, who resides at Amodu Faronbi Street, Isolo, Lagos is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining under false pretences. Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde, had told the court that Umaru and his accomplice, Sunday Godwin, on Sept. 25, 2011 hypnotised one Okunola Salau and duped him of cash and jewellery worth N5 million. “The duo also took him home, performed magical acts on him and threatened him not to tell anybody otherwise he will die. “Afterwards they kept on pestering him on phone to give them money and jewellery. “Salau later gave them gold jewellery worth N4 million before he later regained consciousness,” the prosecutor said. The accused had pleaded not guilty to the charge and had been granted bail in the sum of N1million and two sureties. The accused had earlier been arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court before his case was transferred to the Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ogba. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/04/photo-judge-adjourns-case-after-accused.html |
The trial of a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) and four others before Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf of the FCT High Court, Maitama, Abuja, met a brick wall today as Joseph .B. Daudu, SAN, the lead counsel to the first defendant, Dasuki, sought a long adjournment to enable his client prepare for his trial. Dasuki, alongside Shuaibu Salisu, a former Director of Finance and Administration, Office of the National Security Adviser; Aminu Baba kusa, a former General Manager, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation; Acacia Holdings Limited and Reliance Referral Hospital Limited are being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a 19-count charge bordering on money laundering and criminal breach of trust to the tune of N13.57 billion The trial was stalled at the last sitting due to the absence of the first defendant and his counsel. Dasuki, according to the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, had flatly refused to appear in court at the last sitting on the grounds that his counsel won’t attend the day’s proceedings. At the resumed hearing today, Daudu filed an application seeking a long adjournment of the trial on the grounds that he had not had access to the first defendant, thereby preventing him from taking instructions from him and preparing for his trial. “The defendant needs the facilities to enable him have access to his documents in preparation for trial,’’ he said. Daudu also prayed the court for an adjournment to enable the Appeal Court decide on the stay of proceedings before it. However, Jacobs, SAN, who was represented by Adebisi Adeniyi, countered that the application for adjournment lacked merit. “The application lacks merit, as there is no proof before the court that the defendant was denied access to his counsel. “The mere fact that there is an application before the Appeal Court is not enough for my Lord to stay this proceedings, except there is an order from the Appeal Court to do so”, he said. Consequently, Justice Baba-Yusuf ordered the prosecution to provide facilities for the first defendant to have access to his counsel during business hours between Monday and Friday. The matter was adjourned to May 3, 2016 for commencement of trial. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/04/dasukis-trial-suffers-adjournment.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |

Like the popular saying that “failure is an orphan”, Nigeria’s Super Eagles returned from Cairo, Egypt early on Wednesday with no fanfare that usually accompanied their arrival from any international competition. The Eagles disappointed Nigerians for failing to make their ways to Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. They were stopped in the race by the Pharaohs of Egypt in the two legged qualifiers, the first leg which they drew 1-1 in Kaduna on Friday and lost 0-1 in Alexandria, Cairo Tuesday night. The darling teams of the most populous black nation are currently with 2 points on the table trailing Egypt who have 7 points with a match to go. At the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja, nobody was on ground to welcome the country’s ambassadors. They sneaked in like orphans who have no parents or siblings-a great price to pay when the Eagles failed the nation. Alex Iwobi had to hurriedly connect London with the flight already booked by his North London club, Arsenal immediately they arrived in Abuja. Some of the players could not grant press interview as they wore long faces. But Russia-based Moses Simon summoned courage to talk to a reporter of Brila FM who was at the airport to witness their arrival. Simon said the outcome of the race to Gabon was how God wanted it to be, which the players could not do anything about it. He, however, expressed his disappointment for not playing in the match in Alexandria, he said: “If I were to play in the match, there’s no way I won’t score a goal.” The player said there is nothing he is going to do now than to set off to his base in Russia. Meanwhile, former coach of the Eagles, Austin Eguavoen said he was impressed with the performance of the team in the two matches against Egypt, adding that failure to qualify for the Nations Cup was due to ill luck. “The draw in Kaduna was so bad, but the team worked very hard,” he said. Ex international Jonathan Akpoborie blamed Coach Samson Siasia for taking up the job in the first place. He said Siasia supposed to have seen the handwritting on the wall that it would be so hard for Nigeria to scale the hurdles. “This is not about patrotism, Siasia should have rejected the offer. He supposed to have concentrated on his Olympic team,” he said. Akpoborie disclosed that the current Eagles squad are better than Sunday Oliseh’s team, but called on Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to look out for a good foreign coach now. Former African Woman Footballer of the year award winner, Asisat Oshoala, who plays for Arsenal Ladies in London made reference to the Biblical story of Pharaohs and Moses. Though in the Bible, Moses was able to conquer Pharaohs, but Oshoala said on her Facebook page that “These Pharaohs did not allow Moses to go this time oooo ?”http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/super-eagles-arrives-abuja-like-orphans.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |
https://thenewsnigeria.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/yunusa-amusan.jpg The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday said it had intercepted a letter laden with heroin in Lagos. Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, the agency’s spokesman, said the letter was sent from Bangalore, India, via Express Mail Service (EMS). It was addressed to one Mr Yunusa Amusan, 33, in Mushin, Lagos. “Upon interception by the NDLEA, about 480 grammes of powdery substance that tested positive for heroin, was found inside the letter. “The thin parcels of heroin were carefully hidden in the letter in a manner that makes it difficult to detect. “This is the first case of heroin letter discovered by the anti-narcotic agency this year,’’ he said. Chairman of the agency, Mr Muhammad Abdallah, said that the arrest was recorded following the diversification of the agency’s operations. The NDLEA boss added that investigations revealed that the suspect, already in custody, allegedly connived with his uncle, who lives in India, to import heroin disguised as letters to Nigeria. “The operations of the agency have been diversified to cover mail services. Drug control is an intelligence-led operation and the NDLEA, under my dispensation, will spread its tentacles to all possible areas of narcotic smuggling. “We will not relent in taking deliberate and sustained efforts towards preventing drug trafficking under any guise in the country, be it by air, land or water,’’ Abdallah stated. “Their criminal plan did not materialise due to the superior intelligence gathering capacity of the agency. Mr Mabo Olugbenga, NDLEA Director of Operations and General Investigation, explaining that the suspect was apprehended following surveillance report on his illicit drug activities. “The illicit smuggling of narcotic drugs under the guise of letters was reported and closely monitored by the agency. “It was confirmed that Amusan was recruited by his uncle who lives in India, to take delivery of heroin concealed in letters, to avoid arrest by law enforcement agents. “The suspect was arrested after collecting the letter and further investigation is ongoing,’’ he added. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/photo-ndlea-intercepts-letter-with.html |

The unlikeliest thing has happened in a prison in Ogun State, Nigeria, where a 12-man music band are seeking donation for musical equipment. They comprise of inmates of the Federal Prisons in Oba, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area, who are now making good use of their prison time. Visitors of the Latter Rain Assembly, who visited the prison on Easter Friday to donate some items to the prison and encourage the prisoners, were treated to an exciting performance by the band. The band leader while explaining what the group is set out to do said coming together was a way of adding value to themselves, as they complete their prison term. Keeping themselves engaged with music will help them live positively and avoid bad association, while also helping with depression. Their initiative is a good one. It will surely serve as a catalyst for other better things in the future. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/prison-inmates-in-ogun-form-musical-band.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |
The Akwa Ibom Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Sunday said it arrested 13 suspected vandals last Friday. The state Commandant of the Corps, Mr Emmanuel Ojeniyi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Uyo that the suspects would be charged to court immediately the ongoing investigation was completed on the matter. “On Friday, 13 vandals were arrested and brought to this command and we are investigating. As soon as investigations are completed by Tuesday they will be charged to court,” Ojeniyi said. He said that the collaboration of his men with other security agencies had led to reduction in cases of vandalism in the state. The state commandant warned vandals and other criminals that delighted in adulterating petroleum products to desist from the act as the state would not be conducive for their business. He said the command would not relent on its mandate of protecting critical infrastructure belonging to government in any part of the country. Ojeniyi also called on private security companies in the state that had not renewed their licence for 2016 to do so immediately. He said that the command would soon embark on inspection of private guard companies and that those which were yet to renew their licences would be sanctioned. The corps commandant said that oil theft, petroleum products adulteration and vandalism of electricity installations would be eliminated in the state with the cooperation of other security agencies. He appealed to Akwa Ibom residents to regard security agents as their friends and should volunteer useful information on the activities of criminals to the command for prompt action. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/nscdc-arrests-13-vandals-arrested-in.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |

This is even as the revival preacher urged Nigerians to turn to God in repentance for divine intervention that would lead to the revival of economic and political fortunes of the country. Preaching to hundreds of thousands of worshippers that converged on the headquarters of the church at Ijesha, Lagos for the last lap of the two-day crusade, Muoka harped that God is not interested in ill-gotten wealth and riches but want everybody to worship him in truth and in spirit. Hear him: “If you are here and you are an armed robber, a kidnapper, cultist, adulterer, among others and you don’t want to repent, please we urge you not to give offering, tithe or pledge because we are here to lead people to Christ and not money. “The God who called us is always with us and we know that God will supply all our needs including money to finance the church. We urge you to repent from all evil and God will forgive you and give you good business that conforms with the word of God. “We may not know you but God knows you and will judge you if you go against his will.” Speaking on the topic, God has power to do all things, Muoka said the Church would not fail to fore-warn evildoers against giving ill-gotten wealth to God who is the owner of all things. He noted that the crusade, which coincided with Easter celebration, was designed to produce a spiritual rebirth that would bring about restoration, salvation and Holy Ghost baptism. He furthered that “there shall be a fulfilment of God’s good purposes in the life of participants through which they shall experience a total transformation as evident that God can do all things.” The Imo state-born preacher stated that ”God inspired the crusade to draw our attention to the fact that our success does not lie on our ability but on what God can do, for God alone can do this or that vis-à-vis our supplications.” He noted that human problems exist because “we do not recognize the fact that God has the ability to turn-around our situation no matter how bad it may seem to be. You limit God by seeking other means but that is lack of knowledge. The truth is that, God has the power to cause the barren to conceive, the lame to walk, the blind to see and the captives to be freed. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/nigerian-pastor-bar-robbers-prostitutes.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |
