The EFCCon has arraigned the duo of James Edwin Ehiaghe and Aimienmwona Osahon before Justice O.O Tokode of the Federal High Court Benin, Edo State on four counts bordering on ATM fraud, forgery, Impersonation, conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretences; possession of scam documents contrary to section 1, 2 and 6 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006. Ehiaghe and Osahon are alleged to belong to a syndicate of fraudsters who specialize in defrauding their victims through text messages.

They were separately charged with two counts each by the Commission. According to the complainant, on 18th January 2016, she received an SMS on her MTN line purported to have emanated from Central Bank of Nigeria’s Customer Care Department, claiming that her ATM Card will be deactivated unless she called the ‘CBN Customer Care Phone Number 01342233’ to update her bank details. Operatives of the commission found various incriminating items including a laptop containing some scam documents, various fake driver’s licenses, internet modems and ATM cards of different banks, in a search conducted on the suspects.

The abducted Laragunsin of Ode-Iyasan community in Irele Council Area, Oba Abiodun Oyewunmi, has regained his freedom.

The foremeost monarch who was abducted by a 10-man armed gang at his palace during the week was rescued in Edo state by a combined team of marine police men and Police anti-kidnapping squad following an intelligence report that he was being kept at Gbelegun village.

The Ondo state police image maker, Femi joseph, who confirmed the rescue said no ransom was paid to the kidnappers who fled on sighting security agents.

Joseph thanked the people of Gbelegun community for their cooperation as well as residents of Irele for their understanding and patience all through their monarch's captivity

He assured that efforts are on to apprehend and bring to book the fleeing kidnappers.

Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the assasination of a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Gideon Aremu.

The lawmaker representing Orelope State Constituency was killed on Friday evening at the front of his house by yet to be identified gunmen.

Reports indicated that the gunmen on a motorcycle had followed Aremu as he was returning his home in Alakia area of Ibadan before killing him in front of his house.

The Oyo State Police Command said it has deployed its men in search of the killers of the lawmaker.

The peaceful ambience prevailing in Oyo State was fouled up on Friday night when a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Gideon Aremu was brutally assassinated.

www.metronaija.com was reliably informed by our source that the assailants who were three in number trailed him on a motorbike otherwise called ‘okada’ to his Alakia, Egbeda Local Government Area of the state.

Recounted our source “they trailed him home around 11 p.m. on Friday night and immediately he got down from his car, they jumped down from their okada and shot him several times. He had money with him, but they did not take the money. They only took his telephone handset and disappeared into thin air.”

We gathered that he had accompanied other Honourable members of the House to the Bodija, Ibadan home of former Governor Adebayo Alao Akala to break fast. We were also told that Governor Abiola Ajimobi was also there to break his fast there.

After being shot, Hon Gideon, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress,APC, who represented Oorelope State Constituency was taken to the nearby Toun Hospital on Iwo Road, Ibadan, where he was confirmed dead.

Honourable Aremu, before his untimely demise was the Chairman, Oyo State House of Assembly’s Committee on Information, Public Relations and Security.

His words “It is true that the Honourable Gentleman was killed. It is a suspected case of murder. The Commissioner of Police in charge of Oyo State Command, CP Leye Oyebade has ordered as discreet investigation into the matter. The culprits will be arrested. We assure all residents of Oyo State that we will get the culprits arrested”.

Contrary to claims by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that they did not receive any Notice of Appeal from Governor Okezie Ikpeazu or an injunction stopping the Commission from issuing a Certificate of Return to Dr. Uche Ugah, the Attorney General of Abia State, Mr. Umeh Kalu, has said that INEC lied in its claims.

A proof service has shown that the Commission did indeed receive the two important documents and it was signed for by Saleh N. Ibrahim, Senior Clerical Officer at the Legal Services Department of the Commission's Headquarters, Abuja, who stamped the Notice of Appeal and Injunction with the Commission's official stamp by 12.50pm on Wednesday, June 29, 2016.

"It's unfortunate that INEC said that it was not served. But the truth is that they were served. I have a proof to that. Saleh N. Ibrahim, Senior Clerical Officer at the Legal Services Department of the Commission's Headquarters, Abuja, who stamped the Notice of Appeal and Injunction with the Commission's official stamp by 12.50pm on Wednesday, June 29, 2016.

"With the foregoing, it is now clear that the Commission had no reason or cause to proceed with their dangerous action of issuing a Certificate of Return to Dr. Uche Ogah when it was clearly in receipt of a Notice of Appeal and Stay of Execution expressly forbidding them from taking any further action on the Judgment of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court pending the determination of the Appeal in the case.

"It is rather surprising that the Commission could lend itself to be used for an act capable of destabilizing a State in Nigeria with the attendant consequences for anarchy and breakdown of law and order." Kalu said.

The Abia State Government wishes to reiterate for the umpteenth time that Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu remains the Governor of Abia State irrespective of whatever order was issued by the Federal High Court and the consequential actions of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) pending the full exhaustion of all judicial avenues of seeking redress.

Abia State is a peaceful State consisting of law-abiding citizens but their patience should not be stretched and their civility taken for granted. The citizens of Abia State will resist any attempt to subvert their will which they freely expressed at the polls and which was affirmed by the Supreme Court.

The government of Abia State has declared tomorrow, July 1 and Monday, July 4, 2016 work-free days in honour of our late elder statesman, late Hon. Ojo Maduekwe who passed on yesterday. The governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, through his Information Commissioner made this announcement while addressing the newsmen in Government, Umuahia.

The governor reiterated the milestone achievements of the elder statesman to include insuring peace, order and development of the state and asked Abians to pray for the family he left behind.

An Abuja High Court has dismissed a suit filed by the former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode. In his ruling, Justice Adeboyega Adeniyi said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) acted within its statutory power. Adeniyi said the EFCC acted in line with the commission’s Act.



Fani Kayode Fani Kayode He also said the remand order obtained from a Lagos Magistrate Court by the EFCC is guided by the provisions of chapter 4 of the 1999 Constitution which allows it to question anyone during the course of an investigation.



He added that the remand order obtained by the commission was yet to be exhausted before the commission applied for a renewal which was appropriate. Fani-Kayode had sued the Nigerian government and the EFCC over his prolonged detention by the commission. The former minister is currently facing a 17-count charge bordering on money laundering among others to the tune of N840 alongside three others.

Idowu hung out with friends on Thursday night and heard that they had planned to go swimming in a lake 40 miles northeast of Columbus on Friday. That was the last his friend Jensen, a fellow Ohio State University player, heard of him.

The following day, a Saturday, Jensen, while picking up another friend, got a call that Idowu died the night before; he drowned while swimming with friends.

“I knew a few people had been invited,” Jensen, told the press. “I just figured I’d stay home. I had to lift, I had to practice. We kind of hung up the phone, and we kind of just looked at each other wondering if it was real.”

“I didn’t believe it at first,” another teammate Tyler Kidwell said. “He was one of my best friends on the team.”

According to reports:

“Idowu was a defender on the Buckeyes team who had played since 2014. He was a junior enrolled in a premed program. Friends said he wanted to be a surgeon.

Idowu was from Madison, Mississippi, and was majoring in health and rehabilitation sciences while planning to attend medical school. He was an Ohio State Prominence Scholar and a two-time OSU Scholar-Athlete.”

His teammates have since been mourning him, but the Knox County sheriff’s office has refused to release details of the 19-year-old’s death.

“As I understand it, they just went up for the end of the day after classes,” John Bluem, his coach, told Columbus Dispatch. “They just went up to go for a swim.”

Idowu was born to Nigerian parents who are currently based in the United States.
