Christianity EtcCatholic Warns Priests To Stop Competing With Vision-seeing Trendy Pastors by olokfor(op): 8:43am On Feb 15, 2016
The Catholic Bishop’s Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), has asked its priests to stop competing with Vision-seeing trendy Pastors that abound in Nigeria presently. President of the conference, Ignatius Kaigama, gave the admonition during the Catholic Bishop’s Conference at Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral in Abuja yesterday February 14th.

“We must not be frightened into believing in God of ‘now, now’, cajoled by mouth watering material attractions or ostentatious living of some ministers of God. We should emphasise the need for sober Christianity without tricks, rhetoric, fanfare and the craze for social media publicity. All priests must not compete with trendy pastors to see visions and utter prophecies because they sometimes cause psychological disposition. We should help people to interior conversion and attitudinal change.”he said

SportsOnigbinde Blasts Sunday Oliseh And NFF by olokfor(op): 4:21pm On Feb 11, 2016
Former Super Eagles coach and technical committee member Chief Adegboye Onigbinde has blasted Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh in yet another interview, saying Oliseh is using his tenure as Super Eagles coach to learn the job of coaching as he hasn't coached a big club or country before.

Onigbinde also talked about the duties of the technical committee especially as news filtered through social media today that some members of the committee had resigned from their post due to the NFF President's perceived favoritism towards Sunday Oliseh.

"This is the foundation of our football problems; the position of our Technical Committee. Whether we like it or not, football is a prime matter and so the technical committee is supposed to be the central committee." Onigbindetold www.metronaija.com

"The President, the Clerk, the messenger are all there to service the product of the Technical Committee and if the technical committee is not given the right of position, we will never get it right [sic].”

"The right of position starts from the composition of the committee itself. We knew the behaviour of this young man even when he was just the captain of the national team.

"Remember Mali (2002 Afcon), he came down as the leadership of the team and was insulting the Minister (Sports), is this not a continuation? You (NFF) didn’t consider that when you (Nff) were employing him; that’s number one.

"Number two, what was the depth of his experience? He has not coached a major club, he has not coached any national team and you now want him to perform experiment, to learn using the Nigerian national team; that is why I feel hurt. So these are the reasons why I asked – should he have been appointed at all from the beginning?”

CrimePHOTOS: Two Indian Youths Arrested For Assaulting A Nigerian Student by olokfor(op): 12:00pm On Feb 09, 2016
Two Indian youths have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a Nigerian student on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016 and hurling racist comments at him. The youths, Shoaib Ali and Faizal Ali were arrested following the complaint lodged by the student, Orolabe Ibidola.

However, with regard to the allegation that the local youths passed racial comments against the Nigerian student has not been established," Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone) A Venkateshwera Rao told PTI.

The DCP said it was a road-side brawl between the Nigerian student Orolabe Ibidola and local youths on Thursday night after the Nigerian student "put" his face inside the window of a woman's car when she was in conversation with the locals for an address.

"The local youths said that after the lady raised objection then only they asked the Nigerian student on why he was interfering," the DCP said quoting the local youths.

However, Orolabe Ibidola, said when he was returning home from a religious place on Thursday night around 10 local youths allegedly passed "racist" comments against him and beat him up along with two other Nigerian nationals after which he lodged a complaint with Banjara Hills Police, who registered a case under IPC Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 341 (wrongful restraint) against the local youth.

"After beating me up, the locals then beat up two other Nigerian youths" Ibidola said.

“After beating me up, the locals then beat up two other Nigerian youths,” he claimed.
He also said one of the attackers was carrying a knife. However, Banjara Hills Police Station Inspector P Murali Krishna said there was a “minor brawl” between a Nigerian and a local youth following arguments over a road accident.
“We have registered a case under IPC Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 341 (wrongful restraint) against the local youth following a complaint by the Nigerian youth,” he told PTI. "counter complaint from local residents was lodged against the Nigerian, alleging assault by the latter, the senior police officer said adding, "we are inquiring into the complaint."
Expressing solidarity with the Nigerian student and seeking justice for a Tanzanian girl student who was allegedly attacked in Bengaluru, a group of around 70 students under the banner of African Students Association and other organisations held a peaceful protest at Indira Park here, holding banners demanding "to stop discrimination and humiliation of African students" in Indian cities.(photos from the protest)

Mohd Ahmed, a leader of World Organisation of Students and Youths, who was among those who participated in the sit-in demonstration said:
"It was peaceful. We just wanted to convey not to humiliate African students. Accept us...we have come here for studies. Those who are violating rules then punish them but don't humiliate and discriminate the innocent."

Alleging that "racist comments" were passed against the Nigerian, students from around 15 different countries demanded for ending racism and also sought for taking action against all those responsible in connection with the assault on the Tanzanian female student assaulted in Bengaluru.

PoliticsPHOTO: Angry Virgins Protests Topless In South Africa by olokfor(op): 7:49pm On Feb 08, 2016
Angry maidens took to the streets of Ladysmith, KZN, South Africa on Friday, February 5, 2016, in support of the controversial virginity bursary. They have vowed to continue supporting the Uthukela mayor, Dudu Mazibukomayor who introduced the bursary scheme.

"If the government can give young, unemployed mothers child support grants, why shouldn’t the mayor help virgins for preserving their culture?" they asked.

Many groups have criticised the mayor. Higher education and social development departments have called on the mayor to cancel the bursary scheme for maidens. The Gender for Equality Commission said the awards encourage inequalities and must be stopped immediately.

People Opposing Women Abuse (Powa) has slammed an alleged bursary programme that funds studies for young women, but only if they can prove they’re virgins.

The Maidens Bursary was created by the KwaZulu-Natal municipality to fund higher education for young women. It’s been reported that 16 young South African women are the beneficiaries of the scholarship, which funds their higher education. It’s believed the girls are regularly examined, allegedly to ascertain if they’re still virgins.

Powa’s Palesa Mpapa said, "The fact that we are align it to the right to education is not making sense. It’s also discriminating in that within the girls being lured into bursaries on the basis of virginity and what are we saying about boys."

Mpapa added that the practice of virginity testing is unconstitutional.

"If anyone wants to keep their virginity, it’s their right to do it in their individual capacity. It’s a personal issue, which is not supposed to be done in public and it’s also not good that the agencies are using it in order for the girls to get bursaries."

The UThukela District Municipality says it created the so called “virgin bursaries” to deter young women from getting involved with older men. Mayor Dudu Mazibuko says the program is meant to encourage young girls to abstain from sex and focus of education.

"There was a study by the health department that "found that" young girls are more vulnerable than boys. There is no pressure at all, in fact this is an incentive because we are talking girls that have taken the decision to keep their virginity. Young girls are more vulnerable, they are the ones that fall in love with sugar daddies, get diseases and fall pregnant and then their lives are messed up."

Dudu Zwane, 50 a virginity tester and leader of Izimbali zoThukela where virgins are registered, said the maidens and parents are calling on groups to leave the mayor alone.

She said they were disturbed that government was criticising the awards while it was spending billions on child support grants. She said they expected government to support the awards because it was part of the campaign to fight HIV/Aids.

"We encourage abstinence but there are people telling our kids they have rights to sleep with men," said Dudu.

The mayor said she was not part of the march and told the SunTeam to speak to the maidens’ matrons.

A 32-year-old virgin and recipient of the award, Bongiwe Sithole said she came from the Free State University to march. She said if it wasn’t for the awards, she would still be at home because her dad didn’t have money to send her to university.

For one groom in South Asia, his wedding day will always be remembered with an accompanying chuckle and for a very humorous reason. In what could be described as anyone's worst nightmare, his traditional skirt fell down leaving him exposed in front of wedding guests.

The man was filmed wearing a veshti skirt, a traditional men's garment, worn in South Asia wrapped around the waist and secured only by a knot. The groom is walking with the bride behind him holding hands when it suddenly falls down exposing his underwear and legs. And it was his wife's inadvertent doing after she accidentally stepped on his skirt. The man quickly bent down to retrieve what remained of his dignity but not before footage of the incident had been captured.

PoliticsKwara Teachers To Begin Strike Today by olokfor(op): 9:43am On Jan 04, 2016
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Kwara says primary school teachers in the state will embark on strike on Monday to protest the non-payment of their four months’ salary arrears.

The Chairman of the union, Comrade Musa Abubakar, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Kaiama, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara .

NAN reports that the strike action will begin just when schools are expected to resume from their first term holiday.

Abubakar said that the union could no longer guarantee industrial harmony in the state following the non-payment of their four months’ salary arrears.

He said that the primary school teachers in the state had been loyal and dedicated to duty in spite of the failure of the government to pay them salaries for months.

"I want to believe they have tried. If the members of the National Assembly are not paid for four months, I doubt if you will see anybody in the red or green chambers.

"I recall in Oyo state; they were not paid for just two months and some House of Assembly members did not going to work.

"So for us to have worked for four months without pay, I think the teachers have tried and that is why we told the government that we cannot guarantee any industrial harmony again.

"We cannot guarantee any teacher going to class on Monday to teach with an empty stomach except the problem is addressed,’’ he said.

He explained that the union would start a sit-at-home strike action beginning on Monday to press home its demand.

PoliticsFayose Has Reduced Governance To Comedy - Fayemi by olokfor(op): 4:59pm On Dec 28, 2015
Former Governor of Ekiti, Dr. Kayode Fayemi on Saturday evening, in Akure, said that Governor Fayose’ has reduced governance to comedy.

Fayemi who was ousted as Ekiti state No 1 by Fayose accused the Governor of running a “trial-and-error government”.

“Fayose is running a government of lottery” and has reduced what should be the serious business of governance to comedy”, Fayemi added.

Not done yet; Fayemi added: “Fayose’s allegation that President Buhari is planning to unseat him with the military probe as an “eruption of an infantile mind.”

Speaking on a special interview program on the ADABA 88.9 FM radio station in Akure, the former governor also said the decision to probe the conduct of soldiers conduct during the Ekiti election was taken by the military high command and not by Buhari as alleged by Governor Ayo Fayose during a recent press briefing.

“The Fayose’s allegation is rubbish and so typical of him to reduce everything to his own imagination. To the best of my knowledge, President Buhari is no longer a military ruler.

“But if the military in its wisdom decides to investigate the role of soldiers in elections in Osun, Ekiti, Rivers and Abia, what has that got to do with President Buhari or the Federal Executive Council?

“He (Fayose) is only trying to draw attention to himself. He wants a response and nobody has responded to him either at party level or governmental level.

“This is an eruption of an infantile mind, we don’t want to dignify him with any response on what he has been saying about President Buhari.”

A press statement by the spokesman for the command, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the Police operatives acted on a tip-off which led to the arrest of one of the vandals named Elochukwu Byron. However, other suspects escaped.

According to Mr. Adejobi, the suspect and the exhibits would be transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, in Eleweran Abeokuta, for further investigation on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, Abdulmajid Ali.

Mr Ali has also put all officers and men of the command on their toes to make sure that pipelines and installations are adequately protected, particularly during a period of fuel crisis like the one being witnessed across Nigeria.

The Commissioner warned that many of the hoodlums would want to seize the opportunity to perpetrate their criminal act of economic sabotage.

PoliticsJonathan Is Not To Blame, Reno Omokri Replies Lai Mohammed by olokfor(op): 10:28am On Dec 22, 2015
Former presidential aide Reno Omokri writes open letter to the minister of Information. Read below

Dear Honourable Minister Lai Mohammed, Greetings and congratulations on your recent and well deserved appointment as Nigeria's Minister of Information. You may recall that we met on the set of 'Politics Today' in May of 2011 soon after I was interviewed by Deji Bademosi and just before you were interviewed.

The purpose of my letter to you today is in response to your statement made on Monday the 21st of December, 2015 in which you accused former President Goodluck Jonathan, whom I served as one of three spokesmen, of being responsible for the current excruciating fuel scarcity now subsisting in Nigeria.

Your exact words were "What I will be telling Nigerians is that what we met on ground is such that we are paying for the sins of the last administration.....One of the reasons for the fuel scarcity was the inability of the last government to make adequate provision for fuel subsidy". My candid take on your message to Nigerians is that it is an abdication of responsibility on your part and does not project you and the government you represent as being responsible. Government, as you very well know, is a continuum. One government takes over from where the other stopped and to say that an action in December of 2015 (six months after ex President Jonathan handed over to the incumbent on May 29th, 2015, ) is the fault of the last President, is to confer super human powers on Jonathan.

To prove to you that it is wrong to blame the former President, I will quote the words of the incumbent President. A month ago, President Buhari, while speaking to the Nigerian community in the Iranian capital, Tehran, said “I believe if you are in touch back at home, you would have been told that already there is some improvement in power". Those were the words of President Muhammadu Buhari in Tehran on November 25th, 2015. You, Honourable Minister, also boasted about the improvement in power back in August 2015, when you attributed the improvement to the 'body language' of the 'new sheriff' in town. You may recall that you said "I say it anywhere I go that even though we have not added one single megawatt to power, there has been improvement.

My colleagues in the PDP will say no; that’s not true. But I maintain that this improvement is as a result of the kind of integrity that President Buhari has brought to leadership." Now, you and I know that despite what you said about the President's "body language", there is absolutely no way that any action or inaction of President Muhammadu Buhari could have led to an improvement in power.

All the new power stations that have come on stream this year were either built or completed by Jonathan. Absolutely all of them were conceived, funded, built and commissioned by Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidents, the same party that you said had destroyed Nigeria. On October 19th, 2013, then President Jonathan completed and commissioned the 530 Megawatts Omotosho Power station Phase 2 begun by his predecessor.

On February 20th, 2015, he commissioned the 750 MW Olorunsogo II Power Station in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State. On March 24th, 2015, Jonathan also commissioned the Phase I 504MW (Simple Cycle Gas) Alaoji Power Plant at Umuobasi-Ukwu, Abia State. Former President Jonathan was also the leader who successfully privatized major chunks of our power generation and distribution infrastructure. He also created the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading PLC.

So concerned was President Jonathan to know the state of electricity provision that I had to do regular, sometimes weekly, polls and surveys on Twitter to get the public's feedback on the state of power in their locales. Yet, despite all these, President Buhari and you, Honourable Minister, were not shy at taking credit for the improvement in electricity in far away Tehran and Lagos at various times this year. One wonders why the same "integrity" you credited for automatically improving power cannot provide fuel?

Don't you think it is a bit rich to blame ex President Jonathan for the current fuel subsidy especially given the fact that leading lights of your party resisted and rejected the ex President's move to do away with fuel subsidy by deregulating the down stream sector of the petroleum sector? Indeed Honourable Minister, you may recall that as the National Publicity Secretary of the then Action Congress of Nigeria, you released a statement condemning the then government's plans to deregulate the petroleum industry and remove fuel subsidy and also said that the removal of fuel subsidy was "a threat to Nigeria's unity".

Sir, you would agree with me that it is only honourable to take the bitter with the sweet. I am reminded of my 10 year old daughter's comments to me every time I accuse her of watching too much television. She quotes a line from the Disney movie, 'A Bug's Life' in which Hopper says to Atta "First rule of leadership: Everything is your fault". If my daughter at 10 is aware of this rule, shouldn't a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who also happens to be over 60 years of age, and who also happens to be the official spokesperson of the current administration know this rule?

A bad workman may blame his tools, but it takes an irresponsible workman to blame his predecessor! When Jonathan became President on May 6th, 2010, he met a comatose railway network. He did not blame his predecessors. Rather, he went to work. Within two years, he successfully rehabilitated a significant portion of our national railway infrastructure and had restored intra and inter city routes for the first time decades.

He made it possible for Nigerians to travel from Lagos to Kano for less than $10 (₦1600). There were services from Port Harcourt to Enugu, Makurdi to Port Harcourt and Gombe-Kafanchan-Kaduna to mention but a few. For the first time in decades, there was a direct rail transport from Tin Can Island Port in Lagos all the way to Kano with stops along the way. Jonathan successfully built the brand new standard gauge 187 kilometer Abuja-Kaduna railway which will make it possible to live in Kaduna and work in Abuja.

Within Lagos, he introduced air conditioned fast Diesel Multiple Unit trains, the first of its type in Nigeria. I quite remember that when I wrote about these accomplishments, members and sympathizes of your party publicly labeled me a liar. I remained a liar in the eyes of the Nigerian public until my recent surprise vindication by the new Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, who said while on a familiarization tour of the Nigerian Railway Corporation as follows “in fact, I think we have a problem; most people don’t believe that the railway transport is functioning in Nigeria. I didn’t even know, until I started this tour, I never knew that the railway was functioning, it was even from his (MD’s) speech that I learnt that there are some coaches or services that go to Kano or Port Harcourt or elsewhere. So we need to make people become more aware that the narrow gauge is working, and that people can still use it to travel around that country."

Now, Honourable Minister Lai Mohammed, who do we blame for this remarkable progress in our rail sector? Let me end this letter to you with a quote from best selling author, Dr. Steve Maraboli: "It’s time to care; it’s time to take responsibility; it’s time to lead; it’s time for a change; it’s time to be true to our greatest self; it’s time to stop blaming others."

Thank you and be assured of my continued loyalty and support to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

PoliticsOnline Publishers Visit Saraki by olokfor(op): 8:37am On Dec 12, 2015

The president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, on Friday assured that the senate would not censor the media. This is contained in a statement by his Media Assistant, Bamikole Omishore, made available to the newsmen in Abuja.

The statement said that Mr. Saraki gave the assurance when members of the Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN) led by its president, Olufemi Awoyemi, visited him.

It said the group’s visit was in connection with the widely criticized ‘’Frivolous Petitions Prohibition Bill 2015’’ popularly tagged ‘’Anti-Social Media Bill’’.

Mr. Saraki told the group that he would not support any form of censorship of the media, saying that the 8th Senate remained committed to the principles of fair, responsible and open engagement.

“The Senate has no intention to pass any legislation to control or gag the press,” the statement quoted him as saying.

He, however, charged the group to do its part to ensure that international best practices were adopted, while also abiding by the ethics of journalism.

Earlier, Mr. Owoyemi, according to the statement, said that a section of the Bill aimed at criminalizing false statements and use of unsupported petitions on social media.
The group assured the president of the senate that the association comprised credible publishers of online platforms and newspapers with online presence.

“In OPAN’s assessment, the legislature remains critical to how Nigeria quickly harnesses the potentials of online technology and use of social media as a critical component of citizen engagement.

“To achieve this, OPAN Nigeria sees a link between constitutionally provided freedom of expression and responsible conduct and engagement by users and publishers.

“We aim to ensure responsible conduct across digital platforms which in some cases were as simple as recognizing the variants in existing laws around newspaper, radio, television and digital publishing and broadcast,’’ Mr. Owoyemi said.

CrimeMan Swallows $115,000 At The Lagos Airport by olokfor(op): 8:13am On Dec 09, 2015
One Onwuasonya Augustine was charged to court on Tuesday by the EFCC for allegedly swallowing $115,000 to avoid declaring it to officials of the Nigeria Customs Service at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

He was arraigned along with five other alleged accomplices, Christian Okoli, Kingsley Nwokenta, aka Buchito, Nwokenta Emmanuel, Ezenwa Ikenna and Ezenwa Uzoma for the offence of money laundering

The six were charged with four counts before Justice C.J. Aneke of a Federal High Court in Lagos.

The agency alleged that Onwuasonya and the 5 others committed the offence on August 25, 2015, and were apprehended at Room 303 of a five-star hotel in Lagos.

The sixth accused, Uzoma, was singularly charged with the offence of obstructing an NDLEA official, Bello Tsanya, in the discharge of his duty.

However, when the charges were read to the six accused in court, they all pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor said:

“In view of the plea of the accused, I respectfully pray the honourable court for a trial date to enable us bring our witnesses. However, I will also be praying that the accused persons be remanded in prison pending trial.”

But the counsel for the 1st to 5th accused, Mr. Victor Opara, told the court that he had filed bail applications on their behalf stating that the 2nd defendant had health challenges, which were being treated while he was in the custody of the EFCC.

He asked the court to remand all the accused in EFCC custody so that they could have easy access to treatment and lawyers.

Justice Aneke adjourned till December 11, 2015, to take the bail applications of the accused and ordered their remand at the Ikoyi Prison.

This is how thousands of classrooms look like in Kano state but he is still building bridges that has more commission rather than humanity. Building new classes is not the matter what matters fix the old schools and give more priority to social auditing and biogenic needs . What is the secrets in bridge building and motor parks while women a dying at child birth , unqualified teachers, insufficient female teachers poor infrastructure , poor health facilities , poor road networks , public school moving in reverse gear and private schools encouraging sodomy .
