“We want to pass this message to the all international oil companies operating in the Niger Delta that the Nigeria Military cant protect your facilities. They should talk to the federal government to meet our demands else more mishaps will befall their installations.

PoliticsLagos To Begin Construction Of N49b First Medical Park In Nigeria by olokfor(op): 6:37pm On May 04, 2016
The Lagos State Government has approved approved the construction of the first Medical Park in Nigeria at a cost of N49 billion.

This is in line with government’s efforts to improve healthcare experience and promote medical tourism and excellent healthcare services of international standard.

At a news conference addressed by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris at the State House, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on Wednesday, he said that the development was awarded to MEDIPARK International Limited Consortium which comprises MEDIPARK International Limited, Cleveland Clinics Ohio USA, St. Barnabas Healthcare System New Jersey and American Hospital Management Company Washington DC.

The commissioner pointed out that the Lagos State Government was not putting any money on the project as it was purely a Public-Private Partnership, PPP project, but that it is providing the land, which is the old Nursing School in Ikoyi, measuring two acres of land.

Idris recalled that the state government had last year placed adverts in national dailies for Expressions of Interest for development of a Medical Park aimed at ensuring qualitative healthcare delivery to Lagosians.

He said 16 companies/consortiums responded to the advertisement, after which an Evaluation Committee was set up in line with State procurement guidelines with individuals comprising both statutorily mandated members and officers invited to lend technical depth to the exercise.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce that after the receipt of a Certificate of Compliance from the State Public Procurement Agency and a final presentation today to the Executive Council of Lagos State, approval has been given to MEDIPARK International Limited Consortium which comprises MEDIPARK International Limited, Cleveland Clinics Ohio USA, St. Barnabas Healthcare System New Jersey and American Hospital Management Company Washington DC to be the developer to construct manage and operate a Medical Park. It is a joint venture arrangement with Ibile Holdings Ltd,” Idris said.

He said the Medical Park would be sited at the former Lagos State School of Nursing site, spanning over two hectares expanse of land along Awolowo Road, Ikoyi. It would serve as a one stop shopping medical experience offering spaces to primary care physicians alongside in house specialists as well as ancillary services. It will provide a full spectrum of excellent quality high technology cutting – edge medical and diagnostic services to cater for general and specialty medical services tailored to meet the medical needs of Lagosians and Nigerians at large.

The facility, Idris said would comprise a central management area, clinic complex, theatre complex and procedure rooms, ward complex, conference and seminar complex, medical goods and lifestyle shopping centre, stress management and lifestyle improvement unit, data cabling/integrated IT system, structured landscaping, residential accommodation, staff quarters, hotel, emergency and ambulance service, trauma unit, helipad amongst other things.

The commissioner added that the facility would be completed in 20 months.

“We as a government believe that health is wealth and there is no amount of investment in the healthcare sector, that can be too much for the good people of this State, because Itesiwaju Ilu Eko Lo Je Wa Logun,” he said.

PoliticsAPC, Northern Governors Visit Enugu State Government After Nimbo Attack by olokfor(op): 9:45am On May 04, 2016
APC Governors and members of the Northern Governors Forum yesterday, paid a condolence visit to Enugu state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, following the recent attack by some herdsmen in Nimbo community in the state on April 25th. The governors were led by their chairman, Owelle Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and chairman of Northern Governors’ Forum, Kashim Shettima.

Speaking at the meeting, Governor Shettima likened the trauma being faced by Nimbo people and indeed the entire Enugu State to that of victims of Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State. He applauded the people of Enugu State for their peaceful conduct since the attack happened.

"In this kind of situation, it is easy to play to the gallery; it is easier to call for revenge, but Enugu people remained calm. We have to find these killers who should be treated as criminals; they are criminals; they need to be treated as such. The Igbos are very industrious, very accommodating, very enterprising; we must build this nation together. We must build this nation as brothers". he said

PoliticsNLC Blast Doyin Okupe by olokfor(op): 9:37am On May 04, 2016
The leadership of the Nigeria Labor Congress NLC have blasted former media aide of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe, for calling on state governors to downsize their civil servants so they can have enough funds to pay salaries and stop the habit of seeking bailout from the Federal government. Reacting to Okupe's suggestion, the chairman of NLC, Ayuba Wabba, described his suggestion as a jaundiced argument. He questioned Okupe's degree as a medical doctor. The statement in part reads..

“Ordinarily, we would not have responded to Doyin Okupe when he urged governors, in a statement few days ago, to retrench civil servants as a panacea to irregular payment of salaries, because we know him. In his jaundiced argument, very much unlike one who is truly deserving of his certificate from a medical school, Okupe said, ‘virtually all state governments in the country have over-bloated civil service’.

To underscore this point, he said between ‘2008 and 2009, Ogun State received N2 billion monthly from the federation account and paid out N1.8billion as staff salaries, wages and overhead costs’ to civil servants not more than 50,000 in a state with a population of 5,000,000.

In his view therefore it was ‘an obvious socio-economic absurdity and incongruity where 10 per cent of the population was consuming 90 per cent of the wealth of the state. Okupe is bandying political statistics and this is neither good for his health nor the health of those with whom he seeks to ingratiate himself. We at the Nigeria Labour Congress believe in the equitable distribution of the nation’s resources.

We will not subscribe to a situation whereby 10 per cent corner 90 per cent of the resources of the state. It is in furtherance of this that we urge Okupe to do a forensic audit of what Ogun got, what it paid to civil servants, contractors and politicians and what it used in running the Government House!”

PoliticsICPC Never Said I Stole Bailout Funds - Aregbesola by olokfor(op): 10:43am On May 02, 2016
Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state told newsmen that reports in the media saying the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) indicted him of diverting bailout funds are false.

Aregbesola said the reports were cooked up by members of the opposition and a section of the media.

The Governor also commended the workers for their patience with his administration.

Aregbesola said “The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission never indicted us. Other media agencies reported what the ICPC published on the disbursement of bailout funds by states was as at October last year and this was given to them by us. How could we then have indicted ourselves?

“I am happy that ICPC has cleared the air. The anti-corruption body has written to us affirming again that the information it gave out covered only October 2015, saying that it never indicted us since there was no evidence that showed we applied the funds to any other matter outside of workers’ salaries.”

“We demanded for N64.3 billion to cover outstanding salaries, pension and gratuities up till June 2015 for the state workers and N23.8 billion to cover the salaries, pension and gratuities for the local government workers for the same period.

“However, we got N25.8 billion for state and N9.1 billion for local government, totaling N34.9 billion. So, we can all see that this is a far cry from what we needed and asked for. We got this far only because of exceptional financial engineering, extreme prudence and commendable cooperation of labour,” Aregbesola said.

The Governor came under fire from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly asking for more bailout funds.

CelebritiesThings You MUST NEVER SAY During Sex by olokfor(op): 8:14am On Apr 26, 2016
Communication is an integral part of sex that should not be ignored.

It gives you an opportunity to give and get feedbacks and will optimize the sexual experience – two way traffic.

However, some people now take the talking thing to a new level and even turn it to a negative thing by saying the wrong things at the wrong times.

Here are some of the most terrible things some women say that should not be heard during sex.

Here are 9 of them:

“Are you done?” If he is, you would know for God’s sake.
“Is it inside?” WTF, it is inside, do you need telling?
“Is this your first time.” Do you have to tell him he’s inexperienced.
“I’m not in the mood.” Why wait until he’s charged and ready?
“Just get it over with!” Come on, if you don't want sex, say it, but don't be so callous.
“I’ve had better sex.” Jeez, are you so wicked?
“Is it erect?” Why not feel it? Does it feel soft?
“Have you come?” No, he had gone. Trust me, if he orgasms, you should know.
“Are you shy?” Isn’t it obvious?

These kinds of statements can kill the sex vibe and even lead to fights.

Never say it, please o!

CrimeMan Kills Friend Over 'suya In Lagos by olokfor(op): 7:50pm On Apr 25, 2016
he Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates' Court in Lagos on Monday ordered that Abiodun Taiwo, 46, charged with killing his friend over grilled meat, a.k.a 'Suya', be remanded in Ikoyi Prisons custody.

The chief magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, who gave the order, refused to take the plea of the accused saying the charge preferred against him was a capital offence.

Adelaja said that the court would require legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs) before it could proceed on the case.

"The accused is hereby ordered to be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons, pending legal advice from the DPP. The case file should also be duplicated and forwarded to them,’’ she said.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Simon Njue, had told t court that the accused, whose address was not disclosed, committed the offence on March 4.

The accused is facing a charge of attempted murder.
Njue said the accused committed the charge leveled against him at 2.30 a.m., in front of the African Shrine in Agidingbi, Ikeja.

The prosecutor said the accused pushed the deceased as well as his friend, Ayodeji Ogunleye, because the later (Ogunleye) had taken out of the `suya’ belonging to the former.

"The accused was still nursing a grudge against the deceased whom he accused of taking part of his suya.

"The accused angered by Ogunleye’s action pushed the latter, who in the process, fell and hit his head on the floor," he said.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravenes Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 221 prescribes life imprisonment for offenders.

The court adjourned the case till June 1, when it would have received the legal advice from the DPPs.

EducationUnilag Students Slam The Suspension Of Their Student Union by olokfor(op): 8:10am On Apr 25, 2016
The University of Lagos Student Union (ULSU) has been suspended with it's executives and legislative council dissolved by the University's Senate after they considered the report from the Investigative Panel as well as recommendations from the Committee of Provost and Deans in view of the violent & disruptive nature of the April 2016's students protest.

The Senate which has given the directive for the institution to be reopened on the 2nd of May also promised to review the ULSU Constitution and to include conflict resolution mechanisms, such as establishment of Judicial Arm and Financial Guidelines, which shall be the prelude for subsequent elections into ULSU offices.

The Senate further warned the students that locking of the School Gate or Invasion of any facility during any protest (which had become the norm) is now prohibited and students who violate this rule would be expelled.

This however doesn't sound right to some students as they are protesting on Social Media that the school is trying to trample on their rights. They feel the Undertaking and Indemnity Form that the school demanded they fill and get notarized will prevent them from demanding for what is supposed to be right.

According to some, even Parents and Guardians who are to complete the Parents Indemnity Form for their child/Ward complained about the situation. Raed some of the tweets below...

PoliticsChange Is Irrevocable – Osinbajo by olokfor(op): 7:37pm On Apr 24, 2016
Vice President of Nigeria,Professor Yemi Osinbajo(SAN) has assured Nigerians that the change promised Nigerians by the present administration will surely come to pass no matter the country may be passing through now.
Speaking on Saturday,April 23,2016 at the Town Hall Meeting convened by Dr Muiz Banire(SAN) of United Action for Change(UAC),held at the Oranmiyan Hall of Lagos Airport Hotel,Ikeja,Lagos, the Vice president reiterated the present administration’s commitment to deliver on its campaign promises, appealing to Nigerians home and abroad not lose hope on the change agenda as there is surely going to be light at the end of the tunnel.

“We must not lose hope on the change agenda. This is the best opportunity we have to change this country. Today,we have a leader who is honest,a leader who is not interested in making money for himself or his family. There is determination by this government to ensure we deliver on our change promises, irrespective of whatever we may be going through at the moment.

“We will make sure the country changes for the better. We don’t have a choice,Nigeria must work. We don’t have any other agenda. And at the end of our tenure, you will look at the number of houses we have built and the cars we have acquired to know if we have embezzled the money entrusted in our hands.

“We acknowledge the fact that Nigerians are going through a lot of difficulties now, including fuel scarcity, poor power supply and others, but that’s not the end of the story. The end point is going to be the change we all voted for.”

Speaking confidently, the vice president assured Nigerians that in the next few weeks, the issue of fuel scarcity will be a thing of the past as concerted efforts are already being geared towards that.

“We’re not relenting on our efforts to ensure we have enough fuel that will go round the whole country, and that’s exactly what we’re working on now.

“As of the moment,it’s only the NNPC is importing refined fuel. We’re in the process of a final solution to the fuel scarcity.

Noting one of the major problems of the sector,Osinbajo said,”Public refineries are a big problem. Private refineries run better. Now,we’re seeking private investment in co-managing the country’s refineries. We all know the attitude of many Nigerians when it comes to public utility. So,we’re so much concerned about what will alleviate the pains Nigerians are going through concerning access to fuel.”

On the entertainment industry, the vice president assured the stakeholders that piracy which is the major menace killing the sector will soon be fought to a stand still, through government’s concerted efforts. He,however, enjoined the practitioners to improve on their contributions to the national pulse by paying their tax regularly.

“The government is working relentlessly to ensure piracy is curbed, especially using technology options. But stakeholders should also help the government by paying their tax as at when due.”

PropertiesFire Destroys Filling Station And Houses In Ondo by olokfor(op): 7:29pm On Apr 24, 2016
No fewer than six houses were razed in an inferno that gutted a Mobil petrol station on Saturday evening in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The fire which began at 7.30p.m. was as a result of a spark which emanated from a house beside the Mobil filling station.

NAN also learnt that no life was lost in the inferno, but the absence of a fire service station in the town worsened the situation.

A witness, Prince Ayoola Odidiomo, told NAN that no life was lost in the fire outbreak, but that six houses were razed by the inferno.

“It was through the efforts of residents that the fire was put off to stop further wreckage.

“We saw the fire this evening burning the Mobil petrol station before we later discovered that the fire started from a house beside it, which was loaded with diesel.

“It was so sad that there is no fire service station here in Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC).

“We, the residents tried our best to put off the fire to stop further damage,” Odidiomo said.

EducationWAEC Stop Amendment On Certificates by olokfor(op): 6:31pm On Apr 23, 2016
The West African Examinations Council says it will discontinue the process of amending the date of birth and other entries on the certificate of candidates from January 1, 2017.

In a statement on Thursday, the council’s Public Affairs Officer in Nigeria, Mr. Demianus Ojijeogu, said the development was part of measures to curb examination malpractice.

He added that all requests for amendment of any information on bio-data could only be considered during and after registration.

The council, therefore, advised candidates to take advantage of the opportunity to review their entries while registering for the West African Senior Secondary School Examination on the council’s portal or obtain affidavits from the courts of law.

“We have observed with chagrin the volume of requests for amendments by candidates as well as the fact that it could be an opening for examination malpractice hence the need to stop the ugly trend. Moreover, where a candidate detects any error in his/her date of birth after the certificate has been printed, he/she will be advised to obtain an affidavit from a court of law as a support to the certificate.

CrimeBus Driver Gets Death Penalty For Stealing N68,000 In Benue by olokfor(op): 10:35am On Apr 23, 2016
An High Court in Makurdi, Benue State has sentenced a a bus driver, Tanko Inalegwu, who robbed passengers of N68,000, to death by hanging.

In his ruling, Justice Hwande held that the prosecution proved before the court that the convict conspired with others, now at large to rob their victims of various sums of money totalling N68,000, on October 10, 2013.

He said that the convict and his gang had pretended to be passengers in the commercial vehicles in which they dispossessed the unsuspecting victims of cash at the old Customs House, North Bank, Makurdi - after which they pushed out the three victims from the moving vehicle.

The Judge stated that contrary to the victim's claim, evidence tendered before the court showed clearly that the convict was a key player in the robbery.

Report said the convict had confessed to the police that he committed the offence, but later made a U-turn, claiming that he made the confessional statement after being tortured by the Police.

Justice Hwande said that the confessional statement provided enough ground for the verdict of the court and his conviction.

PoliticsLawyers To Sue NASS On CCB/CCT Amendment Bill by olokfor(op): 8:23pm On Apr 18, 2016
Some lawyers in Lagos on Monday threatened to sue the Senate on the ongoing moves to amend the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act 2004.

The lawyers said embarking on such an amendment at a time when the Senate President was being tried by the tribunal was in bad faith.

Mr Tope Alabi, a human rights lawyer, said the Upper Chamber has the constitutional duty to legislate for the country, but that the motive for making the law must be right.

“The Senate has the constitutional power to amend any law but the motive must be right and for the good of the country,’’ he said

The bill to amend the CCT Act tabled on April 14 by Senator Peter Nwoaboshi scaled a second reading at the Upper Chamber.

Senate President Bukola Saraki was docked at the tribunal on a 13-count charge bordering false declaration of assets and money laundering to which he pleaded not guilty.

He challenged his trial at both Federal High Court and the Supreme Court which ruled that he had a case to answer at the CCT.

Alabi:“The intention of the Upper Chamber to amend the CCT Act when Saraki is standing trial before the CCT is clearly in bad faith.

“Nigerians must rise to oppose it, I will proceed to challenge them (senators) in court.”

He advised the senators to join President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-graft war, instead of giving themselves out as aiding corruption.

Mr U.P.E. Nnaji, said the Senate was trying to make retroactive laws as it was done under the military era.

“They should focus on legislations that are beneficial to the citizens rather than wasting our lean resources to legislate on irrelevancies.

“They should stop the amendment or face court action,’’ he also told NAN.

For Mr Chris Ayiyi, the amendment was nothing to worry about for as long as it was not retroactive.

According to him, Senate is empowered to repeal or amend any law, but that it should be done with sense of responsibility.

Ayiyi urged Nigerians to have faith in the lawmakers and believe that the amendment of the CCT Act was for the future.

Corroborating Ayiyi’s position, Mr Chibuikem Opara, said:“Although the Senate has the powers to amend any law, such amendment must be done for the common good.

“It is not to favour or persecute any person no matter his or her class.”
