PoliticsNo Sacred Cow In The War Against Corruption - Osinbajo by olokfor(op): 10:26am On Oct 15, 2015

VP Yemi Osinbajo yesterday said that the fight against corruption in Nigeria by this present administration will have no sacred cow. Osinbajo said this at the ongoing Nigeria Economic Summit holding in Abuja. Osinbajo said the law that drives anti-corruption must be applied to everyone.

"If we pick up somebody here and want to try him, I know how many calls I will get from people in this room. I’ve had the experience in public service and I don’t mind being the tough guy.
I’ve sacked people that needed to be sacked. So there are no sacred cows, the rules will be applied anyway. I find that everybody will like the rules to be applied so long as it will not apply to himself. We can’t apply the rules except we apply the rules to all of us; there should be no sacred cows.”he said

Some suspected Fulani cattlemen who allegedly kidnapped Pastor Japheth Obafemi of The Apostolic Faith Mission in Ondo State have released him.

The victim was kidnapped last month on Auga Akunu Road in Akoko N-E LGA of Ondo State.

The cleric regained freedom after his family reportedly paid an undisclosed amount of money as ransom.

The kidnappers had demanded for a ransom of N60 million from the family. It was gathered that the 70-year-old pastor was seen at Ise-Akoko, a few kilometres from where he was kidnapped last Monday.

Obafemi, who sustained injury on his head, said he trekked over six kilometres from the bush where he was released to Ise-Akoko.

This is the second high profile abduction carried out by Fulanis in Ondo state within a month.

Few days ago ex-SGF Olu Falae was kidnapped on his farm in Akure.

The suspected Fulani gunmen took N2million ransom from his family members before releasing him.

Something must be done urgently to curb this emerging threat.

PoliticsMy Husband Never Supported My Re-election To The National Assembly - Remi Tinubu by olokfor(op): 11:13am On Sep 30, 2015

The Lawmaker representing Lagos Central Senatorial District, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has revealed that her re-election into the Senate did not get the backing of her husband, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. She made this revelation on Tuesday September 29th during the "Women in Government’ conference organised by the South-West Region of the Department For International Development, DFID in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State.

"Tinubu likes his wife to be at home and what is more confusing to me is that most Muslim men do not want their wives to work, but I am a hard worker.

The former Lagos State First Lady noted that it was her district leaders who got the form for her and talked her husband into allowing her to run for the position.

“People have been saying that I got to this position because I am Asiwaju’s wife. What they did not realise is that in the past election, my husband asked me not to go for a second term. It was the leaders in my district that got me the form and talked to him that they wanted me to go back. You can go to my district, the elites might not know me but the grassroots are the ones supporting and voting massively for me. I think that is enough for me and that is how you can get elected, you have to really identify with your people; if really know your people, they will stand up for you,’’ she stated.

Tinubu noted that she worked hard in order to win the support of her constituency.

"When I got the bill to run for primaries, I told my husband that I needed money and he said no money. I fought with the people in my constituency because they said I have to give them more money and I said no, what about the ones I have been giving to you before? If you are not going to vote, so be it. They said that they were just voting for me because of Asiwaju and I responded that Asiwaju is not even supporting me, then, you can go and vote for him." She is however appreciative of their massive support.

"But I’m grateful they voted for me. I have realised that when you are elected, you have to go back and work with your constituency because that is where your support and vote rests,’’ she stated

Contrary to the official report by the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board that no casualty was recorded among the pilgrims from the state in the stampede that occurred in Mina, on the way to Jamarat, where many pilgrims died, Classic International Magazine has reliably gathered that one of the pilgrims from the state, Hon. Adeola Maurufudeen Adefolabi is still missing.

Hon. Adefolabi is a one term honourable member representing Ifako Ijaiye in the lower chamber of the National Assembly and former chairman of Ifako Ijaiye and Ojokoro Local Government Areas.

The magazine further learnt that Hon. Adefolabi was last communicated before the unfortunate disaster that claimed hundreds of lives and all efforts made by family, friends and fellow pilgrims to locate the grass root political titan has proved abortive.

PoliticsNorth Korea Warns Nigeria Against Encouraging Material Inciting Assasination by olokfor(op): 6:48pm On Sep 14, 2015
The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) said on Tuesday that the North Korean Mission in Nigeria has made a formal complaint to it over illegal distribution of a film which the mission regarded as provocative.

Mike Ekunno, the Head, Corporate Affairs of NFVCB, in a statement, said that the North Korean mission viewed the movie as not only provocative but also targeted at inciting the assassination of the North Korean Supreme Leader, Kim Jong-Il.

According to the statement, the North Korean Ambassador in Nigeria, Jong Choi, expressed displeasure with the movie during a courtesy call to the NFVCB.

Choi said in the statement that the movie did not only misrepresent the developments achieved by his country but sought to portray and instigate negative global opinion against its leadership. He pleaded with the NFVCB to initiate action to mop the movie out of the Nigerian market, and also cut the supply source.

The ambassador also underscored the long-standing friendly relations between Nigeria and North Korea, and emphasised the need to deepen the ties.

The statement quoted the Director General of NFVCB, Patricia Bala, as informing the envoy that the agency had carried out due diligence in investigating the matter. Bala said that the movie in question was never submitted to be considered for distribution in Nigeria and that its illegal sale was within underground markets in breach of the law.

“The rules and regulations guiding distribution and exhibition of movies in Nigeria frown at any content capable of causing a breach of public order or subjecting any individual or nation to ridicule,” the statement said. “The agency has already swung into action against the illegal distribution of the said movie. The monitoring and enforcement operatives of the board are under clear directives to track and bring those involved to face the full weight of the law.”

In 2014, North Korea reacted angrily to the controversial Hollywood movie – The Interview – which chronicled a comic attempt to assassinate the country’s leader, Kim Jong-un.

Politics5 APC Chieftains That Could Emerge The Party’s BOT Chairman by olokfor(op): 6:38pm On Sep 14, 2015
Political analysts in Nigeria have been keenly observing the internal squabbles in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), that has interestingly been under-reported by the media.

This is because much focus has been on the activities of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration since it came into power, coupled with the crisis that engulfed the National Assembly following the election of principal officers in both chambers.

But it is clear to watchful observers that all is not well with the party especially as regards the position of the party’s Board of Trustees Chairman.

The position had been put at the back burner by the party leadership as they prepared for the general election earlier this year. Immediately after the election of its presidential candidate, President Buhari, some elements within the party started canvassing for the election of a BOT Chairman.

Naij.com has been monitoring the situation in the ruling party, and now brings to you, 5 chieftains of the APC who might emerge as the BOT Chairman.

Read below:

1. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar: The country’s former vice president has never hidden his ambition to fill the position. After his loss to Buhari at the party’s presidential primary election in Lagos before the general elections, Atiku has been positioning himself for a key role in the affairs of the party as many say he is still eyeing the position of the presidency come 2019 and could use the BOT chairmanship as a platform to launch his next presidential bid.

2. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu: A political colossus, Tinubu reportedly threw his hat into the ring for the position after he observed that some elements in the party are hell bent on reducing his influence in the APC. Not one to vie for positions as he is used to running the show from behind the scenes, insiders say the ‘Jagaban’ as Tinubu is fondly called, is already gearing up for the political battle ahead.

3. Chief Bisi Akande: Said to be the second option for the Tinubu camp, Akande is responsible for bringing to the public’s domain, the party’s crisis, when he released a statement about two months ago, chronicling what he then described as ‘schisms ongoing in the APC.’ A known ally of Tinubu since their days in the Alliance For Democracy (AD), Akande is one man who could emerge the BOT leader, given his experience as a former party chairman, his known stand on party supremacy and of course his political ties with Tinubu.

4. Chief Audu Ogbeh: Unarguably, one of Nigeria’s decent politicians, Ogbeh’s candidature is been promoted by neutrals in the APC who believe that the Benue-born politician is the most qualified to occupy the position. Those rooting for Ogbeh say his unflinching loyalty to the party since he joined their fold, his role in the party’s merger talks, his outspokenness and strong-will are qualities that a BOT leader should possess. A former chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from 2001 until January 2005, Ogbeh was forced to resign after he criticised then President Olusegun Obasanjo for his handling of the Anambra political crisis.

5. Chief Ogbonnaya Onu: One of the pillars of the APC in the South east, Onu is known for his ability to carry people along in all his decisions and also reputed to be a loyal party man. He has been in the opposition for over a decade and he has not jumped ship ever since. A close ally of President Muhammadu Buhari, as both men relationship dates back to their days in the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), observers say Onu might be backed by Buhari to fill the position as a way to persuade the Igbos in the party who have been silently grumbling over being overlooked by the president for the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Party chieftains with an outside chance:

1. Prince Tony Momoh

2. Senator Omar Hambagda

3. Alhaji Buba Galadima

PoliticsAPC Is In Love With Corruption- Wike Replies APC by olokfor(op): 5:40pm On Sep 14, 2015
Our attention has been drawn to the press statement issued by the embattled leadership of Rivers State APC wherein they tried desperately to blame Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for the woes of former Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

It is embarrassing that the leadership and membership of Rivers State APC continue to embrace and encourage corruption despite the glaring cases of looting, mismanagement of resources and the diversion of Rivers State funds to sponsor political activities traced to the former governor and their sponsor .

The former governor had the opportunity to defend himself before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry investigating the sale of valued assets of the state, but chose to stay away.

Contrary to the claims by the Rivers State APC in their ridiculous press statement, immediate past governor Amaechi ran a failed administration that promoted unbridled corruption, blatant theft of state funds and the unfortunate looting of government facilities across the state. Despite getting over N3 trillion during his ill-fated administration, former governor Amaechi left a vast number of abandoned projects, unpaid salaries and pensions and a state crippled by insecurity.

Former governor Amaechi at present is sponsoring a criminal network of propaganda merchants domiciled in leading pro-APC media organisations to distract the Rivers State Government and also mislead Nigerians on happenings at the Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal. All the media organisations on Amaechi’s payroll are merely enjoying wealth corruptly acquired by the former governor.

Mr Davies Ikanya, Rivers State APC Chairman is busy churning out press statements in defence of his failed principal, because he played a key role in the diversion of the resources of Rivers State by the failed Amaechi administration.

For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has no hand in the political woes of former governor Amaechi. Governor Wike has no hand in the appointment of Federal Government officials. The Rivers State APC should therefore stop dropping his name anytime the encounter difficult on their way to bribe Amaechi into an undeserved post.

Governor Wike is busy in Rivers State reviving the state. His job is quite challenging because his predecessor made things difficult by crippling the state through bare-faced stealing. Governor Wike is working and he does not need distraction. Since the Rivers APC cannot cooperate with Governor Wike, the least they can do is keep quiet.

Rivers State is in safe hands. The people have chased away the Rivers State APC politicians who thrived in corruption through the ballot. Today, they are enjoying good governance under Governor Wike.

Simeon Nwakaudu,
Special Assistant ( Media ) to the Rivers State Governor.

CareerJosephine, Airport woman who returned money gets her first salary (Photo) by olokfor(op): 5:30pm On Sep 14, 2015

This article was sent in by Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, a PR consultant and Nigerian Lawyer. Read below

"You remember a few weeks ago when I posted the picture I took with that honest lady who returned N17 million she found at the toilet of the Lagos International Airport? You remember I had said someone had asked me to go fish her out for a reward? You remember this person promised to pay her salary every month for one year?

Well, upon his return from his trip, this man (he has chosen to remain anonymous) sent me the sum of N50,000 which represents the amount he has committed to pay Josephine every month for the next one year.

But interestingly, just as we were driving with her from the airport, a lady working at the toll plaza got interested when Josephine insisted I was not going to pay the toll fee. She showed her ID card which the lady at the gate claimed did not prove she was a staff.

When I mentioned she was the lady that returned those millions, the Toll Plaza girl lit up and informed her someone had been looking for her to give her a scholarship that will enable her improve her education.

You see? Josephine de Honest. In the pics is Ikem Okuhu and the honest woman Josephine
