There are two ways to which power comes in through you inverter

1. Solar
2. Nepa/grid

Your protection for surge needs to come into play at these two areas.

Example here is if you're using a 500Vdc charge controller
You need something close enough to this
E.g. a 500Vdc/550 Vdc clamping protector
Or a 275Vac protector for NEPA

If going for premium SPD e.g. Midnite best to have over 200k for both
If average ones like explained above e.g. from china

My 5kva/48v inverter suffered lightning damage a few weeks ago. I’ve spent some reasonable amount of money in the course of the repair, and I wouldn’t want to have a similar experience again.

Please I need a help on how best I can protect the inverter from lightning damage. I would appreciate any device (with price) that can help me achieve this protection.

This 23.4V is based on while loaded right?

Also I believe your electrolyte mixture is the reason for your quick sag.

But since it delivers, then fine.

But if not satisfied, then take them to the company to demand for replacement

The lowest i have seen it go is 23.4V after 26hrs usage

As we speak, its on 24.1V as attached

The voltage drop is normal for tubular but yours seems kinda peculiar

There could be a chance that the water level is too high or the wrong electrolyte is used.

I recently got a pure sine wave inverter 2.5KVA with 2 220ah Tubular Batteries

When fully charged it displays on the inverter 27.7v, but immediately i start using it, it drops to 25.4v and within 30mins, it drops to 24.3v then to 24.1v within an hour. Now, it lasts for 24hours on same load which is, 2,55w standing fans, 90w tv and lightnings 30w

My installer is saying there's nothing wrong with it as long as it doesn't beep low battery, also i noticed that water drips out from one of the batteries

I want to know why the voltage drops so low on less than 300watts

There is a huge stock of these panels at alaba, I have seen them stacked up in a warehouse, the man told me they are yellow face panels and that is thier factory colour, I laughed and left 😹

The need to be well educated and informed when it comes to investing or own solar can not be emphasized enough.

To know the type and potency of your equipment via taking time to research saves you a lot of stress in many ways.

We were at a site recently to add extra panels due to business expansion and the panels installed by an installer was just not it.

To give to your client that kind of panels without their knowledge will be the biggest scam ever, except it was chosen by they themselves.

Picture 1-4 showing the levels of colouration to aging and also to mismatched panels.

You can try Daikin, LG, Panasonic and a few other local ones ..... be sure to use a space calculator to know the type of AC will best fit your needs, so you don't oversize

The indicator are not exactly a pointer to watch out for for Addo, you will noticed that the indicator goes up and down with grid power, you should watch out for the the 3 stages of charging right by the battery bars you described.

Assuming your setup is only planned to be used at night while it charge solely with solar and no load during the day time, then i can say

you need 800 - 900W of solar

@all How many solar panels do I need to charge up a 24V 100amps battery assuming I want to go off-grid completely.

Strongly suggest that you first figure these out
1. Hours you plan to run the ac at daytime and at night time
2. will the inverter be grid connected
3. will any other load be attached.

if you can answer these questions, then you are gradually building up a case to your solution.

The output of a MSW inverter is square like in nature meaning it transmit noise together with it, making your appliances to burn more energy and converting the not so good part of the sine wave to heat and noise of Frequency which is noticeable with fans.

Good evening House, why would same load consume different energy/power when using different brands of inverters?

I have a PSW inverter and a MSW inverter which I alternate. I discovered that the consumption of my battery using the PSW is more efficient. Initially, I thought it was the MSW inverter using up the excess energy but I was surprised when I measured the (output) energy usage while connecting the same load while using the modified sine wave inverter the energy used by the same LOAD (output) on the PSW. The energy used by the load while on the MSW is twice of the energy used when on the PSW.

for inverter there is a choice to go for all in one system AKA Hybrid DEYE, GROWATT, AXPERT, SRNE or a normal separate inverter VICTRON, ANY OTHER INVERTER with torodial transformers and match it up with other necessary accessories

your estimated energy is in the range of 53KWh and above with matching panels that can pump that battery up daily in good sunlight.

I urgently need to set up 10Kva solar system and I need your advice abeg.

My needs are simple: power 2 inverter AC at least for 24 hours. Lights and TV, occasional water pump use.

I have narrowed things down to using LiFePo4 batteries due to have a longer use life, but picking a reputable brand seem to be a minefield. I'm leaning towards Felicity but I am not even sure anymore due to all I have read about them etc. Please advice.

It depends on what your preferences is
1. if you own a prepaid meter with a stable power predictable grid supply then you might want to maximize you solar production to squeeze more from your solar panels. so any deficient during the day you refill at peak time of grid supply

2. if without prepaid then maximize grid usage as this will ensure that battery is in constant close to being full daily without worry of downtime as the sun is there to backup.

While these test may look authentic, it is important to know that the sun do not give out 1000W/m2 except in rare cases

when this test was performed, if the solar irradiance was confirmed and then used for said calculation can we then decide what fate the panels really are in.

Based on our weather conditions, you can not do 100% of your nameplate.

someone bought felicity 175w panel and after a perfect tilt, was only able to get 101w at peak of sun.

Reason for almost half of your generation is based on a few things
1. your charge controller max. output at 12V
2. What condition is your panel installed in? if all boxes are ticked then averagely you will get a 560 - 500W production from the sun.

Your own is even better, This is the highest I have generated sofar from a two 400watt panel, total of 800watt panel, just a mere 416watt in a very sunny day

One of major setback that i can see from this your panel installation is there is no spacing between the roof and the panel.

To fix this, there is a need for removal to have an profile placed under the panels of at least 1 inch for air flow under the panel.

Honestly I didn’t check the panels individually.
The panels are positioned East-West and facing due north. I couldn’t get it to face due south because of the roof orientation.

There is no shading at all. In fact the panel receives quality sunlight between about 7:30am - 5:30pm.

I have been running a experiment to confirm if truly fridges run at 8 - 10 hours daily, energy wish.

this statement is confirmed to be true.

Test equipment
204L Midea fridge 2 door fridge of 80 - 110W power
220Vac up time 99.97%
full stocked freezer compartment
half filled fridge compartment

Result
Full power draw for 5 hours straight - with doors completely shut off.
compressor then shuts off between 30, 45, and 1hr interval
the pattern is not regular

but i am sure if a system is designed to run a fridge for 24 hrs, a fridge operating this way will fit just right.

3.450M, These is with lithium battery and a tier 2 solar panel with a normal hybrid inverter with no special feature and other carefully selected protective equipments.

Hello Bosses, I am looking to set up a system enough to power 1 1.5 hp inverter AC, Fridge/Freezer, 10 bulbs , 2 55inch led tv , 2 laptops, wifi router and two fans for at least 10-12hours, How much would a setup like this (Solar panels, Power Inverter, Batteries, Monitors/meters, Cables/wires) cost me?, Just a rough estimate, I am not looking for the cheapest brands out there but i am also not going for the costlier ones, just something in between that will work for the above and will last long, I appreciate your inputs.
