The GUI of these BMS with parameters display is quite easy to understand and yet detailed.

NiyiOmoIyunade:
I have used both JBD and JK BMS - JBD BMS were originally targeted at medical devices so quite rugged build quality and plenty fail safe features built in.

If you want a pro product with plenty flexibility, ability to talk to inverters via RS485, up to 2A active balancing then choose the JK BMS - if you have multiple BMSs in your battery bank the JK also switches between BMSs far better and smoother than JBD.

I say the JK BMS is a pro product because it does not forgive wiring mistakes and also needs a special procedure to wake up the BMS - once you can handle these two aspects you are set to go forever.

Seplos too is a good BMS with active balancer and comms but very failure prone in real life use (we are told there is a bad batch with defective parts released into the market)

I would rank the Dalys and ANTs of this world behind all these BMSs above - typically these cost more and are more quirky but I have yet to see any reason to choose them over a JK or JBD BMS for example.

I have attached screenshots from my JK BMS (current favorite) and JBD BMS respectively - as you can see they each achieve good results and keep your pack happy - the JK is the better value product of the two in my opinion.

Let's assume you are to work or using this device as the owner designed it i.e. laptop, phone charging, DC fans, lights then you can get it for a solar journey but anything more than then it is not a good buy, because the storage is small i.e. looking like a 30Ah battery

and YES! the 200W panel if used together with this will serve you in the future when used with a 100Ah lead battery

felaliveson:
Hello gurus, I’m planning on getting a lithium battery powerbank 500watt inverter with 120,000mah lithium battery inbuilt … i was told it can be charged via 18v 200watt solar panel

My question is that, will it be a good buy Also does it mean a 12v solar panel can not charge it…. Also if I decide to switch my solar panel to lead acid battery with 12v inverter, can the 18v solar panel charge the lead acid 12v battery ??

Seplos works great, its features are quite astounding, especially the parallel features and the comms and was planning to implement and see it work with a member but lost his contacts months ago due to phone theft .....

Hello,

Please what is the best DIY BMS to buy, I have been researching JBD and also Seplos for the 16S 280Ah lifepo4 battery bank I am planning to build.

What has worked for most people here and which is the best to go for?

Let's assume your budget no dey shift and again your looking to make your equipments future upgradeable and expandable

1. A 3KVA 24V Hybrid Inverter - @Iygeal has one at dirty cheap price, being a season member, i am sure some months of performance can be guaranteed 180,000 ....... Future expansion compactible

2. 300W solar panels x 4 pieces for basic, 1800W is needed ideally while considering efficiency of solar panels and your loads been active 232,000 ... Or you can try the Tokunbo panels, if you into it. ....... Future expansion compactible

3. Flooded lead 12V 220Ah battery with 2 year warranty (Different varieties abound) - 240,000

At this stage now, you approximately have 48,000 or less

4. Battery rack, Solar PV cables, AC cable (shorter distance <5 yards, roof sealant, aluminum profile, mounting accessories all should finish the balance

5. With no "balance of system" i.e. SPD, circuit breaker, et. cetera needed are not yet considered

6. With a service charge for your installer and transport from your seller to your abode.

IMHO, you will need more than 700k to complete this job, but then again if you can mount or do it all yourself ......... then you save at lot of cash.

BTW a more cheaper option is to swap the inverter to hybrids like schneider electric 1500VA with PWM inbuilt controller, it will free up some cash for you, but it is not really future load expandable but you will at least have power at the needed time which is now.

Mykeolinks:
Good day to all the bosses in the house. I really want to appreciate the selfless contributions on this page thus far. I've gotten to a point where I need to delve into DIY solar power generation. Please I'd like to be guided with what my 700k budget can get for me for starters...I intend to go into solar fully but I want to start with this budget. Like for starters I'd be needing it to power 2 ceiling fans, charging of phones, a decoder, charging of a laptop. TVs and others can come in in subsequent upgrades.
Thanks as I eargerly anticipate responses

It is important that the load side is looped

I.e. L-L, N-N, so that if grid or inverter is present ...only the active side switched to the device feeds out.

Good morning forum,

Please i need your brilliant ideas, a recently installed inverter doesn't have bypass when switched off making some circuit to have impartial voltage.

Please anyone with an idea of a DIY auto changeover of 10-16A that can be use to bridge the gap of Grid/Inverter when in off state?

I'd appreciate every input. Thanks

What's the average lifespan of a solar panel pls?
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by olopan(m): 11:04am On Apr 07, 2022
Since all loads are DC, going for those Lithium mini packages is your best bet ....... this way you get the provided solar panel accessories thehy will provide and also the AC charger packages too ...... and your loads will still be taken care off

if need be for AC extension then adding a 120W mini inverter could light up your bulbs.

Good evening house. I need a solar setup quote for the following load.

I might add extra loads in the future. But, the are all going to be light loads. Thanks in advance.

Personal opinion it should be an alternative with low wattage single water heater at other locations

Kingdemu:
Good day House. Pls, how reliable is a solar water heater as a central source for hot water in a house? And would you advise someone starting a new building to design his plumbing in such a way that a single solar water heater is the central and sole source for hot water for all bathrooms and kitchen in the house?

Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by olopan(m): 8:01am On Mar 12, 2022
The solar panels are little to charge your batteries effectively, you will need a 600W panel to do the job right but then, if you have a steady grid supply then go for it, as price is fair.

Also to note is absence of circuit breaker & SPD, but it is expected for such price margin.

@Terrymason what are you looking to get?

karferguso:
Good day bosses.

I intend to purchase a Solar inverter system to carry my TV, DSTV, lightning, fans and charge my laptop.

I found this quote online from a company in Abuja, is this fair enough?

I'm not going completely off the grid. So, my other appliances will be on the grid.

Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by olopan(m): 4:13pm On Mar 03, 2022
A quick wade into your scenario,

your AC - use only with grid power

your freezer - 270W x 6 hrs = 1,620Wh [ day time]

your fridge - 180W x 6 hrs = 1,080Wh [ day time]

only one TV at a time - 120W x 8 hrs =960Wh [ 360Wh/day time & 600Wh/night]

OX FAN replaced by 20W Dc fans x 2 pieces ........ 40W x 18hr = 720Wh [240Wh/day time & 480Wh night]

your laptop - 70W x 6hrs = 420Whr

light and phone charging 7 hours - 70W x 7Wh = 490Whr

night usage = 1,990Whr

Inverter size & battery - 1.5KVA 24V 200Ah

solar panel size - 2400Wp of PV panels

if you work within this sphere of calculations and with grid power supply, you can have 247 power supply & also your fridge and freezer are governed by a timer plug/switch

oliverwrites:
Found this thread via Google. I need a solar system in my house.

I wonder how much it will cost me to get a solar system that will power 1. One 2 hp AC, a deep freezer, one fridge, three TVs, one ox fan, one laptop for at least 16 hours per day.

I have a budget of 750k will this suffice? And with solar do I still need to charge it with nepa or generator? I need a quick answer.

Good evening @ GeorgeD1 & Bigrovar

I couldn't quote the lengthy message

Many of the arguments made earlier are true, I have had so many discussion with my roofers friends and people with homes or looking to build their homes that having a flat roof is best in case you plan solar to be used in the future but their response has always been in line of "send down the rain" roof types will always keep the inside of a house cool in hot days.

While their is always a win-lose situation to life ... Going with gives more win is a win-win in my book especially when ot comes to flat roofs.

Like a an esteem member here planned for such a scenario like this and his enjoying his setup.

A quick insight to your project

To lay it bare, your appliances are not efficient even if you try to manage it, they won't help at the long run & a quote will look bogus for these little setup

Proffered solutions, if possible when choosing to go solar

1. If a 12V TV with adapter can be used ... It will be a great alternative

2. Forget the fridge use it only with Grid supply

3. Use only TV speaker, forget the speaker too

4. Don't have idea of the bulbs but since it is a room, changing them to 5 or 3 watts and using only two at a go will go a long way to minimize yoir setup

5. If you can get them DC fan of 30W max. That will be good for your setup

6. Say your neighbor have 3 lamps to charge i.e. 9W x 3 and phone charging say 12W x 4 phones. That's 18W + 48W =66W for say three(3) hour period - 198Wh
( when you decide to go solar then only a device per person is best allowed) else your battery go hear am.

Conclusion

With a TV - 60W+ bulbs 10W+ decoder 20W + fan 30W = 120W for 5 hours is a 50% Dod for 100Ah battery

So a 1kva 200Ah Solar system with these new aforementioned suggestions, & your 10 hours of GRID supply should keep your going for 24 hours of power with no interruption. (Your neighbor charging wasn't included)

hooryo:
.
TV 145w
Fridge 90w
Speaker 60w
I have 4 bulb
Not sure of my fan’s watt rating..
And also my neighbors use to charge at my side.

As a contribution to the ongoing solar panel energy production debate, which many with monitoring system can attest to is.

For us a rule of thumb,

1. Tier 2 panels are calculated with 0.55% of nameplate or total PV capacity for period of 4 Hours.

2. Tier 1 panels are calculated with 0.65% of nameplate pr total PV capacity for period of 4 Hours

If the system is loaded I.e. energy storage and loads then it is expected to see energy production in line with above.

This proven true by remote monitoring.

I see your angle now and I totally support the idea.
Prepaid meter is the way to go

rottennaija:

The communities have zero to no power because discos are not expanding. Discos cannot expand because they don't have the money to, discos cannot even provide the meters to generate the money to expand. The FG should just change their policies. If you check well, discos sell single phase meters at 63k but this meters actually should cost 14k. Sohow many people can afford 63k? But millions can get a 14k meters (or 20k for the gprs meters).

I can confidently tell you that if NERC allows meters to be imported into the country, the price ranges between 14-16k, many people wil buy these meters, install them, estimated billings which people are not happy to pay stops. The discos will see the money to expand, the rural communities will see the energy as they pay what they consume.
Politics / Re: FG Increases CBN’s ₦140 Billion Solar Intervention Fund by olopan(m): 9:04am On Feb 17, 2022
You've made very valid points, but it's important to note that even with meters some community have zero to little power in weeks because of abysmal grid supply for such solar minigrid is the way to go.

But this is Naija you've got to know someone high up to meet with the job criteria

rottennaija:
These are wrong interventions and maybe they don't have the right idea. The FG needs to provide the interventions in metering. They need allow gprs smart prepared meters into the market by allowing imports of these. If the market is saturated with energy meters and consumers can get them off the shelf, the price will come down and the discos will see money to expand their capacity. The whole value chain in the energy sector benefits.
Politics / Re: FG Increases CBN’s ₦140 Billion Solar Intervention Fund by olopan(m): 9:00am On Feb 17, 2022
While this is good, means to which small to large business can benefit it to work on their model to help underserving communities is left out.

What help would a fund you hear about but cant apply for do for an average solar company owner with no big and deep ppcket to lobby it. Sigh! Naija

@ajabani4allah & @dollarnaira

A quick contribution to your conversation

LiFePO4 @ nominal voltage is @3.2V while fully charge at 3.6V - so a 3s/4s is 9.6V/12.8V charging to full voltage will be 10.8V/14.4V

While Li-ion @ nominal is 3.7V while fully charged is 4.2V - so a 3s is 11.1V charging to full voltage is 12.6V

LiFePO4 is closely related to Lb based batteries when been used with conventional inverters

Popular place will be solarshop

We also sell them too at a fair price through our partnership with the main distributors locally.

About the price, you will have to be specific I.e. knowing information like
* Depth of well
* Water level in well
* Height you looking to pump water to et. Cetera will be a factor to suggest which will work for you ...
