South west Agberos i hail thee, its only in the south western part of Nigeria that these never do wells have liberty to hack and kill innocent Nigerians. Its not funny, in the north, south south, southeast, one hardly hears of any problem within the NURTW. Is it only in Yoruba land that NURTW exists. I still remember in the university days, when the NURTW are conducting their elections, its the hard men from the universities that these agberos use. They dare not try being political thugs because even the poliiticians dread the students more, i know when one state chairman of NURTW had some misunderstanding with some students, walahi, this man shit for trouser when the students came for him, he gave them a lot of money to pacify them . Anyway, different strokes for different folks. South west Agberos please let there be peace in the southwest. |
Did i hear you say Bank Ole? |
The former speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dimeji Bankole, spent his first day in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday without taking meals given to him by operatives of the commission. Bankole whose arrest on Sunday attracted mixed reactions on Monday, was said to have relied only on meals brought to him by people believed to be his relatives An EFCC source, who made this known to our correspondent, also claimed that the anti-graft agency had obtained court orders to execute search warrants at the former speaker’s homes in Lagos and Abeokuta. “He (Bankole) has not been eating the meals that we gave to him. He prefers the ones brought to him from people from outside. But that is not of serious concern to us. The good news is that we have court orders to search his apartments in Lagos and his home state,” he said. When asked to name the court(s) that gave the orders, the source, who did not want his name in print because he was not permitted to make comments on Bankole’s arrest declined, citing ‘confidentiality.’ He, however, disclosed that the former speaker’s lawyers had visited the commission’s headquarters to discuss bail conditions for him , but were told that investigations were ongoing. The source added that the outcome of Bankole’s interrogation would determine the commission’s next line of action, particularly as it affected other lawmakers who had been linked to the N10bn loan scam that partly led to the former speaker’s arrest. “Nobody will dictate to us what we will do. When we get to that point we shall decide,” the source said. When contacted, the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Babafemi, said Bankole, had an option to eat the food provided by the commission or brought to him by any of his family members or friends. The commission is also investigating petitions against the former speaker for his role in the N2.3bn car scandal that rocked the House as well as the management of the N9bn capital budget of the House for 2008/2009. Meanwhile, some Nigerians have urged the EFCC to arrest and investigate other lawmakers while others described Bankole’s arrest as a charade. In his reaction, Human Rights Lawyer, Mr. Bamidele Aturu, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the EFCC should ensure thorough investigation of the scandals in the sixth National Assembly. “The arrest should not stop with the former Speaker, every member of the National Assembly in the last dispensation should be investigated and those found culpable must be brought to book’’ Aturu said. He described Bankole’s arrest as “embarrassing to the nation, morally indefensible and legally untenable.” “Bankole occupied a moral position in Nigeria. He was morally and legally bound to submit himself to the EFCC for questioning rather than trying to resist it,’’ Aturu said. The Human Rights Lawyer, however, commended the EFCC for once again showing that nobody was above the law in Nigeria. The Chairman of the National Action Council , Dr. Olapade Agoro, urged the EFCC “to ensure that a good job was made of Bankole’s arrest.’’ According to him that “the conduct of the Speaker prior to the arrest was a disgrace to the youths of Nigeria.” He added “It is more saddening that a young man who got over N100m per quarter should have his name mentioned in any form of financial allegations. “Even the allegations against Mrs. Patricia Etteh who was disgraced out of office as Speaker was a child’s play, compared to the current allegations emanating from the House.’’ Also, the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties in the South-West said that the arrest should not end as a mere fanfare. It said through its Secretary , Mr Austin Nnorom, t that justice must be seen to have been carried out by the EFCC on the allegations. “If the former Speaker is to be acquitted of the allegations, Nigerians must be shown proof of his innocence and vice-versa,’’ the conference said. However, the Coalition of Oodua Self-Determination Groups through its Director of Strategy, Razaq Oladosu , said the EFCC was playing on the emotions of Nigerians with the arrest. It said “The commission was quoted in the media to have set up two committees on Sunday that would investigate the Speaker after giving impressions to Nigerians that investigations had been concluded. “The former speaker or anyone else, would be a fool not to have tied up loose ends because there was adequate time since the EFCC started harping on the arrest to cover any such tracks.’’ The group added that a sincere war on corruption must start with a change in the leadership of the EFCC that had “indicted more persons on the pages of newspapers than in actuality.” http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201106075174732 |

"Don't kill me!" were the first words that Ivory Coast strongman Laurent Gbagbo shouted when forces loyal to internationally recognised president Alassane Ouattara captured him, a witness says. Ouattara used his troops and French tanks and air power to oust Gbagbo this morning, ending their four-month standoff by pulling him from his burning residence. Gbagbo's capture came a week after attackers wielding machetes and guns killed more than 1,000 civilians in the neighbourhood of an Ivory Coast town controlled by forces fighting to install the internationally recognised president. More than a million civilians fled their homes and untold numbers were killed over the course of the power struggle that threatened to re-ignite a civil war in the world's largest cocoa producer. Images of Gbagbo being led into a room in a white undershirt were broadcast on television as proof of his capture even as he refused to sign a statement formally ceding power after losing November's election. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a fighter with Ouattara's Republican Forces (FRCI) told AFP on Monday of Gbagbo's dramatic capture at the presidential residence in Abidjan. The fighter said the yard outside the presidential residence had been teeming with landmines and that several FRCI fighters were injured when they stepped on the explosives. He said the fighters threw tear gas into the residence before a commander entered in search of Gbagbo, who had been sheltering in there with his wife Simone. "When he found himself face to face with Gbagbo, in front of his desk, the first thing Gbagbo said was `Don't kill me!'," the witness said. He said Ouattara's forces put a bullet-proof vest on Gbagbo and the FRCI's commanders surrounded him "to protect him because some of our fighters wanted to finish him off right away." Gbagbo was then put into a 4x4 and taken directly to Ouattara's headquarters at the Golf Hotel, he said. Another witness at the hotel said Gbagbo was brought in under guard by pro-Ouattara fighters and UN police. "I saw (his wife) Simone arrive in the hall, she was wearing a long dress. The FRCI security guys were trying to protect her from the crowd, which was trying to hit her," the hotel witness said. "Despite this, there were a few people who managed to give her a couple of hits, to pull her hair. We could hear people insulting her, calling her a witch," he said. Public still fearful Residents of the commercial capital of Abidjan refrained from celebrating in public, still fearful of the hundreds of armed fighters that continued to prowl the streets, refusing to believe their leader had been arrested. Sporadic gunfire echoed across the city Monday night. Gbagbo could be forced to answer for his soldiers' crimes, but an international trial threatens to stoke the divisions that Ouattara will now have to heal. Gbagbo's dramatic arrest came after days of heavy fighting during which French and UN helicopters fired rockets at arms depots around the city and targets within the presidential compound. Ouattara's final push began just after French airstrikes ceased at around 3 a.m. Monday. A simultaneous French armored advance secured large parts of the city and pro-Ouattara troops entered the presidential compound just after midday. "We attacked and forced in a part of the bunker," Issard Soumahro, a pro-Ouattara fighter at the scene, told The Associated Press. He added that Gbagbo was tired and had been slapped by a soldier, but was not otherwise hurt. Witnesses at the nearby Golf Hotel said Gbagbo was brought in with his wife, son and about 50 members of his entourage. "The nightmare is over for the people of Ivory Coast," Ivory Coast's UN ambassador said. Youssoufou Bamba, who was appointed UN ambassador by Ouattara, said Gbagbo will be delivered to justice. But it will be very difficult for Ivory Coast to mount a domestic court to try Gbagbo, said Richard Downie, an Africa expert at the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies, adding that it would "probably be a lightning rod for more unrest." "(Ouattara) didn't want to come to power this way, through the barrel of a gun," Downie said. "He was elected fairly and freely. But this is the situation he was dealt. It's going to be incredibly difficult for him to bring the country together." In western Ivory Coast, rebels fired into the air in jubilation in Duekoue, causing a panic among refugees who fled in all directions or dropped to the ground in terror. In villages going east from Duekoue people danced in the streets, waving tree branches. In one village, young men paraded with the orange, white and green Ivorian flag. "It's a victory , considering all the evil that Laurent Gbagbo inflicted on Ivory Coast," Ouattara's ambassador to France, Ali Coulibaly, told France-Info radio. He emphasized that the man in power for a decade would be "treated with humanity." "We must not in any way make a royal gift to Laurent Gbagbo in making him a martyr," Coulibaly said. "He must be alive and he must answer for the crimes against humanity that he committed." Gbagbo a popular rival Ivory Coast was divided into a rebel-controlled north and a loyalist south by a 2002-2003 civil war. The country was officially reunited in a 2007 peace deal. The long-delayed presidential election was intended to help reunify the nation but instead unleashed months of violence. Gbagbo, who won 46 per cent of the vote, held power for a decade and already had overstayed his mandate by five years when the November election took place. When the country's election commission and international observers declared he lost the election after it was finally held, he refused to step down. The former history professor defied near-universal pressure to cede power to Ouattara. The two set up parallel administrations that vied for control of the West African economic powerhouse. Ouattara drew his support from the UN and world powers. Gbagbo maintained his hold over the country's military and security forces who carried out a campaign of terror, kidnapping, killing and raping his opponents. Gbagbo wrapped himself in the country's flag as he took the oath of office at his shotgun inauguration. "No one has the right to call on foreign armies to invade his country," Gbagbo, still taking a nationalistic stance, declared in a televised address on New Year's Eve. "Our greatest duty to our country is to defend it from foreign attack." Ivory Coast gained independence from France in 1960, and some 20,000 French citizens still lived there when the civil war broke out. peated Ouattara's initials over and over, chanting "ADO is our president." - AP, AFP http://www.nigeriamasterweb.com/paperfrmes.html |

Sometime last year, one nairalander named Nwora Uzo declared for the House of reps online. We as committed nairalanders advised him to go to the grassroot and seek for votes. The other day, INEC published the names of the contenders. Did anybody see NUZO's name or has he chickened out? Inshort where is NUZO? |

When i read i saw the topic, i suspected its Olisa Metu they were talking about without even reading the whole story. This guy is turning himself to a gangster. At his age and status he should have acting better, in the estate where he lives at prince and princess in Abuja, he is a thug and beats the occupants of the estate at the slightest provocation. He does the beating personally with his aides and policemen watching their boss demonstrating how cruel he could be. I am sorry for this country if the likes of Barr Olisa Metu is allowed to control its affair. |
For parents, teachers and students of British Nigerian Academy, Abuja, February 19th this year was an unforgettable day. It was the day the National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South East, Olisa Metu invaded the school in a convoy and allegedly beat up the school’s Vice Principal, Mr Kola Pele for seizing his son’s telephone handset. National Life gathered that Metu’s son, Derrick, an ex-student of the school, had turned up in the school to see his friends. Being a former student of the institution, the younger Metu was well aware that students are forbidden from using phones while in the school, yet he reportedly gave a phone to one of his friends during the visit. The development was reported to the Vice Principal who seized the phone. Derrick’s mother, who accompanied her son during the visit, was said to have pleaded with the Vice Principal to release her son’s phone without success. Determined to retrieve the handset at all costs, Mrs Metu reportedly placed a call to her husband, who drove to the school in company of his aides. It is claimed that he drove in a convoy of three Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), rousing the curiosity of parents who were around to visit their wards. The PDP chieftain allegedly made straight for the Vice Principal’s office, screaming on top of his voice and demanded for the seized handset. The VP, it was gathered, said the seized handset was with the proprietress of the school. Not satisfied with the response, Metu was said to have called the proprietress, threatening to pull down the roof of the institution if they failed to produce his son’s handset. It was gathered that Chief Metu then dragged the hapless Vice Principal upstairs to the Proprietress’ office. “There, the man was given the beating of his life as he resisted the release of the phone”, an eyewitness informed National Life. Metu was allegedly joined by his aides in beating the Vice Principal, who despite the beating insisted on respecting the school’s written rules. But unable to withstand further beatings, the 67-year-old educationist acceded to his request and took them to his office where he kept the phone. The ugly episode, according to our source, took place in the presence of students and parents, which further humiliated the Vice Principal. But Metu’s version of what transpired was quite different from this. When National Life first called him on his mobile phone, he categorically denied being at the school on the said day. He said he was in the East for the President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign and that there was no way he could have been at the school. Not once or twice did he state that he was not there and that it was his aides who were there. He also stated that the 67-year old man was not beaten but that they tried to show him that “there was difference between discipline and cruelty.” He called our reporter for a meeting to clarify the issue, agreeing to be recorded. He changed his story, claiming that he did not want to talk and that his friend owns the school and the proprietress of the school was his friend’s wife and that he would not say anything that would bring down the school. After a lot of exchanges, he lost his cool and revealed how his wife was allegedly abused by the school’s Vice Principal who, according to him, had no right to seize his son’s phone. He also changed his earlier statement where he denied visiting the school on the day of the incident. While denying beating the 67-year-old teacher, Metu disclosed that he was swimming when his wife called him to inform him of what happened. He immediate called the Proprietress who promised to speak with the Vice Principal. He confirmed that he indeed led the old man upstairs to the proprietress’ office after he had directed that his orderly seize the man’s phone and keys. Metu swore he did not touch the man. http://www.thenationallifeonline.com |

Libyan leader, Col Muammar Gaddafi has refused to stand down amid widespread anti-government protests which he said had tarnished the image of the country, the British Broadcasting Corporation reports. In his first major speech since unrest began last week, Col Gaddafi said the whole world looked up to Libya and that protests were “serving the devil”. Reading from the country’s constitution, he said enemies of Libya would be executed. Rights groups say nearly 300 have been killed in the violence so far. A defiant and angry Col Gaddafi said that he had brought glory to Libya. As he had no official position in Libya from which to resign, he would remain the head of the revolution, he said. He blamed the unrest on “cowards and traitors” who were seeking to portray Libya as a place of chaos and to “humiliate” Libyans. At other points he referred to them as cockroaches or “rats and mercenaries”. State TV had said Col Gaddafi was going to announce “major reforms” in his speech, but the only such reference was to some devolution of power to local authorities. The protesters had been given drink and drugs, he said, frequently shouting and banging his fist on the table as the address continued. He called on “those who love Muammar Gaddafi” to come on to the streets in support of him, telling them not to be afraid of the “gangs”. “Come out of your homes, attack them in their dens. Withdraw your children from the streets. They are drugging your children, they are making your children drunk and sending them to hell,” he said. He urged young people to form committees “for the defence of the revolution and the defence of Gaddafi”. He said they would “cleanse Libya house by house”. “If matters require, we will use force, according to international law and the Libyan constitution,” he said, and warned that the country could descend into civil war or be occupied by the United States if protests continued. Anyone who played games with the country’s unity would be executed, he said, referring to the Chinese authorities’ crushing of the student protests in Tiananmen Square among other historical events. He also railed against western countries, in particular the US and Britain, which he accused of trying to destabilise Libya. It was unclear whether the speech, which lasted about an hour, was live or had been pre-recorded. But it was apparently filmed at his Bab al-Azizia barracks in Tripoli, which still shows damage from a US bombing in 1986. The cameras occasionally cut away to an image of a giant fist crushing a US war plane. The BBC reports say that even by Col Gaddafi’s usual standards it was an extraordinary speech, full of theatrical defiance against almost everyone. He appears completely divorced from reality, says our correspondent, saying that he had not authorised the army to use force, despite opposition statements that more than 500 people have been killed and more than 1,000 are missing. The Libyan authorities have reacted fiercely to the outbreak of protests in the country, which have come amid anti-government unrest in many other countries in the region. Foreign journalists work under tight restriction in Libya, and much of the information coming from the country is impossible to verify. But witnesses say foreign mercenaries have been attacking civilians in the streets and that fighter planes have been shooting down protesters. Tens of thousands of foreigners are trying to leave the country and many oil companies are attempting to remove their expatriate staff. According to reports, there is a heavy police presence in the capital but that, the second city, Benghazi - where there has been intensive fighting - is now in opposition control and there is no sign of security forces. Many Libyan diplomats, including the country’s ambassador to the US, have turned their backs on Col Gaddafi and are urging the international community to take action. The UN Security Council and Arab League have both called emergency meetings over the crisis. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has said he is “outraged” by the violence Human Rights Watch said at least 62 bodies had been taken to hospital morgues since Sunday, in addition to the 233 people it said had been killed outside the capital previously. The violence has helped to push up oil prices to their highest levels since the global financial crisis of 2008. www.punchng.com |

The word “wife”, seems to be losing its dictionary meaning. Divorce is on the increase while many husbands now substitute female robots for wives and for sexual satisfaction. This has been seen as an allegory of male chauvinism of the period, by representing marriage as a master-slave relationship. Science Reporter STANLEY CHIBUIHEM AMALAHA, takes a look at this ugly incidence By mere looking, you will not believe that these beautiful ‘females’ you are looking at, are not real humans. It will take more than the oratorial prowess of Socrates, the famous Greek philosopher, to convince you that they are not human beings. The truth in the matter is that, those objects are not human beings, they are artificial women, otherwise known as robots. When robots were first made, the importance of sex, was a minnor. However, as technology improves, female robots, were created. Ever since then, much importance have been paid to sex. The primary aim of robots then was to carry out domestic, household, and industrial activities efficiently and perform difficult tasks which are lethal to human. For example, robots can dissect the human body perfectly without mistakes when programmed, unlike a medical doctor who quarreled with his wife at home before coming to dissect a patient, may be prone to mistakes because of psychological trauma. However, recent studies show that female robots are now used by men for sexual satisfaction instead of its industrial activities. Beware! Artificial wives on the increase. Artificial women have been a common trope in fiction and mythology since the writings of the ancient Greeks. This has continued with modern fiction, particularly in the genre of science fiction. In science fiction, female-appearing robots are often produced for use as domestic servants and sexual slaves, as seen in the film Westworld, Paul McAuley’s novel Fairyland (1995). Female-appearing robots have also appeared in real-life, with female robot early constructions being crude. The first gynoid, was produced by Sex Objects Ltd, a British company, for use as a “sex-aid”. It was called simply “36C”, from her chest measurement, and had a 16-bit microprocessor and voice synthesiser that allowed primitive responses to speech and push button inputs. Later, other female robots produced include: • Project Aiko which can speaks Japanese and English languages which sells for 13,000 euro. • Actroid designed by Hiroshi Ishiguro to be “a perfect secretary who smiles and flutters her eyelids”. Female-appearing robots have also generated. According to Dr Kingsley Abhulimen, Senior Lecturer Dept of Chemical Engineering University of Lagos, in 1983, a busty female robot named “Sweetheart” was removed from a display at Berkeley college USA after a petition was presented claiming it was insulting to women. The robot’s creator, Clayton Bailey, a professor of art at California State University, USA called this “censorship” and “next to book burning. The term has been applied to a humanoid robot designed to look like a human female; it has been derived from the word android in response to its linguistically masculine lexical element andro which is perceived as implying a male-styled robot according to some cultural readings. Gynoid has not gained popularity, however, with the term android being used almost universally to refer to robotic humanoids regardless of apparent gender. The term gynoid was used by Gwyneth Jones in her 1985 novel Divine Endurance to describe a robot slave character in a futuristic China, that is judged by her beauty. Since then, different types of artificial women have been on the increase with different names and applications. Today there are Actroid, sweetheart, project Aiko, Dead girls, Fembot, Gynoids, Sexy robots, machine human, Plastic woman, Sex object’s, Robotrix, Female robot, wifedom, Robotess, among others with Robotess, as the oldest gender-specific term, originating in 1924 from the same source as robot. Gynoids may be “eroticized”, and some examples such as Aiko include sensitivity sensors in their breats and genitals to facilitate sexual response. The fetishization of gynoids in real life has been attributed to male desires for custom-made passive women, and has been compared to life-size sex dolls. The reaction of people to robots that appeared female to different degrees has been studied. The reaction of people to such robots has been attributed in part to gender stereotypes. This research has been used to elucidate gender clues, clarifying which behaviors and aesthetics elicit a stronger, gender-induced response. Experts, however, have condemned human beings having sex with robots saying that sterotypes and societal attitudes should not be attered by technological process irrespective that technological bodies of gynoids depict sexism in an unnatural context. They also highlighted its negative impact. The sexualized images of gynoids have also been interpreted as fetishisation of the female body, racial differences, and technology. Many artificial women are produced yearly that recently a femininely shaped robot was clothed with human skin so that she is not known to be robot. Such female robots are designed according to patriarchal stereotypes of a perfect woman, being sexy, dumb and obedient, and reflects the emotional frustrations of their creators. Modern gynoids are often unique products made to fit a partial man’s desire and the creators are often male “mad scientists”. Gynoids have been described as the ultimate geek fantasy: a metat and plastic woman of your own. Abhulimen further highlighted that gynoids are inextricably linked to men’s lust. They are mainly designed as sex-objects, having no use beyond, pleasing men’s violent sexual desires. Their character has been described as “a literal sex bomb”. They are produced as toy for men with an “implicate fantasy of a fully compliant sex machine in US and other countries” says the Unilag distinguished don. Sex with gynoids has been compared to necrophilia. Sexual interest in gynoids and fembots has been attributed to fetishisation of technology, and compared to Sadomasochism in that it reorganizes the social risk of sex. The depiction of female robots minimizes the threat felt by men from female sexuality and allow the “erasure of any social interference in the spectator’s erotic enjoyment of the image”. Gynoid fantasies are produced and collected by on-line communities centered around chat rooms and web-site galleries. http://www.compassnewspaper.com |

BEFORE handing over to his successor, the outgoing Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Marvel Akpoyibo, carried out what could be termed as his last official assignment in the state yesterday. He presented 46-year-old Adedeji Idowu, who allegedly paid a gang of robbers to kill his United States (U.S.)-based mother. Currently in police custody are Idowu, his wife Adebimpe Nusira, and three others named for their alleged role in the murder of the victim, Alhaja Sakirat Idowu, 65. Akpoyibo explained that a chain of events led to the eventual robbing, shooting and killing of the late Alhaja Idowu, which he said started on November 5, 2010, when Adedeji, a graduate of Texas Southern University, U.S., allegedly went to members of a gang, said to be led by one Olusoji, and asked them to rob his mother. Incidentally, the late Alhaja Idowu was billed to return to Nigeria from U.S. in December, last year. Akpoyibo said: “Apparently to demonstrate his seriousness, Adedeji once again went to the gang for the second time on December 20, 2010, reconfirming the arrival date and time of his mum. Our investigations revealed that Adedeji took his wife, Adebimpe, a graduate of English Language, Lagos State University (LASU) and mother of one, into confidence, concerning the planned robbery attack, but the wife did nothing to dissuade, prevent, or avert the crime. “By the time Sakirat returned to the country on December 1, 2010, the stage was set for her execution. On the day of her arrival, Adedeji, whose car shop is located along International Airport Road, and thus familiar with the airport environs, drove to the airport in company of one Alfa, to pick Sakirat. She was picked up about 9.30p.m. and driven to her residence at18, Akiti Avenue, Okota, Isolo, Lagos.” The Nigerian Compass gathered that as soon as the late Alhaja arrived home, Adedeji allegedly excused himself from the welcome party, signaling the gang members to strike. “They struck as prearranged, robbing the old woman of laptops, assorted jewelry, phones and cash in U.S. denomination. She was shot in the chest and died instantly,” narrated Akpoyibo. Investigation had shown that the attack was allegedly carried out by Olusoji, Irabor, Owolowo and Ambali. The suspects were said to have arrived the victim’s residence in a BMW salon car, belonging to Ambali. They also escaped in the same car after killing the woman. Akpoyibo continued: “Investigation has also shown that Adedeji and Adebimpe participated in the sharing of the proceeds of the robbery. Adedeji got two laptops, a Blackberry phone and cash of $200. Adebimpe got assorted jewelry, all belonging to the deceased. “Most of these items had been sold to receivers. One of the laptop was sold to one Mujib at the Computer Village for undisclosed amount. The Blackberry phone was sold to another buyer at the Computer Village for N15, 000 and some of the jewelry sold to a street buyer in Yaba for N50, 000. The police have recovered one of the victim’s laptops and jewelry from Adedeji and Adebimpe.” According to Akpoyibo, when a search was carried out on the home of Olusoji, two live cartridges and a huge collection of charms were found. He said the police are, however, hunting for other gang members still at large, including the armourer, who allegedly shot and killed the business woman. http://www.compassnewspape.com |
A word is enough for the wise. |
As the zoning controversy continues to cause a deep crack in the North, the governor of Jigawa State and a strong supporter of President Goodluck Jonathan, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has said that unless Northerners, who are against President Jonathan, see reason and allow him to continue in office, the corporate existence of Nigeria might be threatened. He spoke on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hausa service, monitored in Kaduna, on Saturday, even as Vice President Namadi Sambo, PDP governors and other PDP chieftains from the Northwest zone met in Kaduna to discuss current political developments that affect the zone. According to Sule Lamido, those saying a Christian or Southerner should not become Nigeria’s president were uncivilized and had forgotten the past, noting that if that should be the case, Nigeria should split. “The point is that they are using sentiments to destroy the North. What is politics all about? Following your opinion, but for someone to say one must abide by his opinion no matter how is wrong. People should be allowed to do what they want. If that is the case, we should divide the country so that we could have a section for Christians and another for Muslims,” he said. He said though zoning was in the constitution of the PDP, the decision of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party superceded any other consideration. He said the issue of zoning started before the death of late President Yar’Adua, adding that PDP was the only party, out of about 60 others in the country that had the clause in its constitution, saying it did not concern “those in the ANPP, CPC or ANC. But because of the circumstances we found ourselves, it has become a general issue. Now they are denouncing PDP, but the fact is that they cannot change anything.” Commenting on the allegation that delegates were forced to vote for Jonathan, he said those saying delegates were forced were “those who in the previous years, used force in their various parties during elections.“ Look at what happened in Kano ANPP, there was this boy called Ibrahim Little. For many years, he was the only major figure in the ANPP, but in the end, they rejected him. Look at how Abacha’s son joined a party within two months and seized everything. What they are doing is what they think everybody is doing. “Jonathan is not the governor of Abia, he is not the governor of Borno or Kastina, it is, therefore, wrong for anybody to listen to the sermons of a gossiper. It is similarly wrong for someone from another party to come and be saying all sorts of things against PDP and me. They are saying the party is against Islam, that Lamido does not like Muslims, he has gone astray by following non believers, okay, let’s see,”he said. Explaining why some states did not wholly vote for Jonathan, he said, “Some were afraid, others were frightened. But for us, we have been in it for over 30 years. We were frightened, we were made to be afraid, they said we don’t like Islam, that we are anti North, any person who says his fellow man does not like Islam, look at him and watch his relationship with others. They are ignorant by saying someone has deviated from his faith. We are still in the North and we see them. What is it that they have not said? Forget about such people. The electorate should go and vote for their choice, it is election period and people know the right people to elect.” On demonstrations in some Northern states against the ruling party, he said that “any member of PDP, wherever he might be, is known. The party has followers everywhere, in all the local governments in Nigeria and everywhere. He said those demonstrating against the party were not PDP members, adding that there were some lazy politicians in the zone who knew they had lost and were ready to use any strategy to destabilise the zone and discredit the party. ”We know their antecedents, they cannot be trusted. They are Muslims but they don’t know what the religion demands. They are those making allegation that the North has been marginalized. They are the people causing problem, inducing youths and unemployed people to foment trouble. Poverty is unlimited here. These burnings, humiliations and abuses will not wipe out poverty in the North. They should choose to live in peace so that we can work for their development,” he declared. Lamido also said those who defected from the party were not true members of the PDP. “ I heard what Ribadu, Buhari and Shekarau were saying, that they would provide good leadership devoid of ethnic or religious sentiment. Those who did not win election in PDP are now alleging foul play, perhaps the other time they won nobody heard them say anything. To them, PDP was the best at that time,” Lamido added. http://www.nigeriamasterweb.com/paperfrmes.html |
I learnt some of our women go to Dubai to hustle in pretence that they there to buy things to sell in Nigeria. They go without money and come back with a lot of goods. Does prostitution thrive there? |
DUBAI // A man and a woman accused of luring two Nigerian women to Dubai with promises of work, then forcing them into prostitution, were sentenced to five years in prison each, a Dubai court ruled this morning. Both the female defendant, JA, 32, from Ghana, and her Nigerian co-defendant, AG, 32, have held without bail. JA is accused of approaching the two victims in Nigeria. They told police she offered work in Dubai as waitresses in an African-themed restaurant. They said JA organised their passports and bought them clothes and makeup before flying them to Dubai. When they arrived, the victims said, their passports were taken and they were forced into prostitution. They said they were sent to Dubai and Abu Dhabi nightclubs to solicit customers to pay JA US$20,000 (Dh73,000) in exchange for their freedom. Records show one of the women also accused AG of raping her. Both defendants had denied the charges when they first appeared in Dubai's Criminal Court of First Instance in August 2010. AG was sentenced to an additional three years in prison for rape. http://www.thenational.ae/news/uae-news/courts/two-convicted-of-trafficking-prostitution Both will be deported after serving their terms. |
I found it rather astonishing, i ve not seen anywhere in Nigeria that NURTW (Agbero) is reverred like in Sothwest Nigeria and Ibadan in particular. Is their own Agbero differrent from those of the South-South, South East, North Central, etc. I still remember when we were in the University, student cultists are recruited as body guards to the Agbero aspiring to be a state chairman. Inshort if the these student cultists sneeze, the Agberos catch cold. |
