PoliticsRe: What Has Martin Elechi Achieved in Ebonyi state? by omamokta: 12:08pm On Feb 16, 2012
Amacaco is just one of those eating from the crumbs that fall from the table of the governor and his families. Even the politicians there are complaining seriously. If you see them, you will hunger running on their faces. The man Elechi has taken Ebonyi state ten years backwards, the white elephant projects he is embarking on cannot even be finished in the next twenty years. You can see that the statistics of national bureau that was released recently shows that of the five states in the SE, Ebonyi, has the highest number of poor people. Its unfortunate, we have Yam, Rice and other food more than other states in the SE, yet we are hungry. WHY? Because we have are very wicked and selfish governor that wants every body to be poor. What is happening in the state is capital flight between the governor and his family and the so called foriegn expartriates (Lebanese) that help them to launder the monies. He is lucky cos we are very timid, nobody can summon the courage to report him to EFCC or ICPC but i know GOD of the defenceless will fight for us.

He has not achieved anything and will not achieve any as long as his tenure lasts. He is just there brewing acrimony and communal conflicts so that the populace will be busy fighting for their lives while his family and friends devour our collective wealth. For the past five years, what you hear there is how much Elechi Elechi (his son) spends on hotel rooms in a month. His plans to relocate (extinguish) Abakaliki rice mill is the one in offing now. He is busy relocating and dispersing people from the native lands so that they will share the lands amongst themselves. I learnt he did not have enough land in Abakaliki, so he is using the opportunity to acquire them now. But my question is WHEN IS HE GOING TO ENJOY THE LOOT WHEN HE IS IN HIS NINETIES?

PoliticsAbu Qaqa: Boko Haram Members Marry Wives Of Suicide Bombers by omamokta(op): 12:21pm On Feb 14, 2012
Further insight into the activities of the dreaded Islamic sect Boko Haram continued to emerge from the interrogation room of the State Security Service (SSS), where the captured spokesman of the group Abu Qaqa has been on a roll on his revelations on the operations of the group.

Qaqa revealed that leaders of the group usually get married to the wives of their members who die on suicide missions under the pretext that they are protecting them from attacks.

Also, the disbursement of money to the families of dead members and uneven sharing of funds, especially loot acquired from armed robbery operations have helped to cause disharmony in the group.

According to an insider source, who has kept abreast of Qaqa’s confessions to his interrogators, he disclosed that a major source of distrust and acrimony in the group was the sum of N41 million stolen from a bank but was not accounted for by those who had custody of the loot.

Normally, Qaqa, was said to have informed his interrogators, the money was supposed to have been shared among five groups: the less privileged; widows of those that died in the Jihad; some was meant for Zakat (giving of alms to the poor and needy); another portion was meant for those that stole in the money; and the balance is kept by the leadership of the group for the prosecution of the Jihad.

“We don't know how this money was spent and nobody dared ask questions for fear of death. Even those that took part in the robberies were also always compelled to pay Zakat from their share to the leadership.”

The group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, Qaqa disclosed, appropriates what goes to the widows, less privileged, for Zakat, and the leadership.

“The leadership also shares out the wives of those killed the way he wants and marries some in the name of giving them protection. For instance, he is said to be married to one of Mohammed Yusuf’s wives.

“Everyone lives in fear, more of the leadership of the group, than security agencies. For instance, I never for once believed I would be arrested. I thought I was invincible. But now I have realised that if I could be arrested, if Abdullahi Damasak, the spiritual adviser, could disappear (arrested), then it’s a matter of time before everyone is caught,” Qaqa is reported to have said.

Qaqa was one of the high profile arrests made by the SSS over a fortnight ago in Kaduna. He was in the city as part of the advance team to launch attacks on the state and others in North-west Nigeria.

His arrest has since revealed some of the operational tactics of the dreaded group, leading to the re-arrest last Friday of Kabiru Abubakar Dikko, alias Kabiru Sokoto, the escapee bomber suspected to have masterminded the Christmas Day bomb blasts in St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla in Niger State, where about 44 worshipers died.

Sokoto was found hiding behind a clothes rack in Mutum-Biu in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

RomanceAre Nigerian Marriages In America On The Brink Of Extinction? by omamokta(op): 1:23pm On Feb 10, 2012
It has been a puzzle to me as I watch the rate families are disintegrating among Nigerians living here in Houston lately. And I can wager that what is happening in Houston, Texas (where I live) is typical of the rest of America. As I attribute this unfortunate trend to the environment and stress associated with living in America, my thoughts and research have shown that there are many other variables that have been affecting our lives here, which most of us have not accepted as reality, therefore, triggering the ripple effect of high divorce rate.

There is resistance among Nigerians to accept the fact that we live in a system that is more sympathetic to women and what is a norm in an African oriented/Nigerian family maybe viewed as unconventional. The role of husbands in America is totally and mutually exclusive when it is compared to that in Nigerian context.

While America has been so receptive to the influx of immigrants from every part of the world, the assimilation and transition challenges have been traumatic to these cultures. The dramatic culture clash, values, norms and open society pose the biggest challenge to most foreigners who have been assimilated and grounded in their ethnic culture in contrast to the host culture. It will sound illogical if the blame is solely attributed to the American culture; we, as the visitors have our role to play in order to bridge this disparity gap. Based on our slow pace of assimilation, the culture shock blossoms, leading to family cracks and sometimes ending in divorce or worse, death.

How do most Nigerians marry?
A typical marriage between two Nigerians usually starts from home. There is a myth that most marriages between Africans and Americans are usually faked. An assumption which has and continues to hunt true and candid marriage relationships between the two cultures. Therefore, the gamble to marry from Nigeria, especially those who have the potential to make money, instigates the rush to nursing and medical schools in Nigeria to engage and marry, not a soul mate, but a potential money making nurse, doctor or pharmacist. This expensive and tedious adventure has become a game of chance. Majority of these men go home to seek a wife they have never known, while others decide to fetch a sweet heart that will come over to America and become a wonderful soul mate or a nightmare.

The brewing of the problem starts from the approach of the suitors from the great US of A, where dollars speaks load and clear. Diaspora Nigerians will use their hard earned money to travel and impress these wives to be without minding the perception and ramifications of their actions. It is acceptable to lie to a girl friend to win her over for dating pleasures, however, it is suicidal to lie to a life partner of your lavish wealth in America; the one you have decided to spend the rest of your life with; while in reality, you are finding it hard to pay your rent in an efficiency apartment.

After the lavish expenses involved, the spouse finally gets to America to find out the reality. She is very excited and at the same time disappointed to be here, feeling stuck, she opts for plan B because A has faltered. The opportunities, rights and liberties accorded to women will impress her new plan. She will start to realize that her husband does not live up to whom he projected while at home. He does not have a good job, big car, a mansion and other expectations he projected during the courting period; he is not settled!

On her arrival, his rich friends pulled in all kinds of expensive vehicles while checking her out, flaunting their money, titles and class. Remember, some of these wives already planned on leaving as soon as they have gotten situated. While they have their plans going, the men are toiling to train these wives since the system is more favorable to women. The first line of action is to put her through school and at the same time making her pregnant. The wife goes to school and carries the pregnancy. Everything is going great because the man plays the African male figure and head of house hold while the poor wife dances to the tune on a borrowed time. Despite the burden of going to school, being pregnant and working, the woman continues to perform her chores as a wife. The man also continues to play the role, praying for her graduation and eventual self actualization. In some situations, there maybe family issues that may prop up and the woman is frequently reminded of her role and how she was brought to America, the greatest country in the world. Some may involve abuse, humiliation and sometimes physical abuse. While all these are going on, information and communication are flying from friends, relatives and associates who directly or indirectly influence the outcome of this marriage. While some will caution dialog, others will instigate different measures to resolve the issue, including but not limited to contacting the authorities.

The degeneration of the marriage continues and leads to more suspicious issues: infidelity, rumors of leaving, unsatisfactory sexual performance and other innuendos. Both parties are suspicious of each other and the crack in the marriage continues to widen. The complications that arise will destabilize the marriage to the core; these may include: sexual starvation, threatening to call the law in order to label the man with felony, assault and battery, child abuse, or any accusation that will incriminate him. As the problem reaches the boiling point, the wife, knowing full well that she is covered, files for divorce and child support.

Having graduated with a professional degree and a good job, the wife collects child support and ends up living lavishly while the man struggles to make ends meet with his meager earning. The woman who has been raised to her current professional level sees her sponsor, the husband, as unworthy to have her as a wife because she is now making a six figure income. In an effort to control this money, our men make the most horrendous blunder which usually leads to violence or even murder. While most break ups are associated with the wives, men also play the devils' advocate, thinking they can still have multple patners while they are married. Nigerian men should weigh in their options before getting into marriage here in Houston/America. The time has changed and yesterday is gone. There must be a dramatic change to sustain out marriages here because, there are many distractions and the victims are the poor Nigerian children that are caught in the middle.

Nigerians, especially Igbos have a very inflexible culture engraved in marriage and family. This stoic culture is inert in most men of African descent. As a black man in America, you are guilty till proven innocent, therefore, if you insist on living like a husband in Africa, please save your marriage till you relocate back home. Otherwise, you may find yourself in jail, probation or even dead. If you are one of the lucky ones with an understanding wife, count your blessing; but please, do not seek her pay check because they do not come handy anymore.

PoliticsEbonyi Inaugurates 50-man Inter-religious Council Committee by omamokta(op): 11:18am On Feb 08, 2012
Desirous of enhancing peaceful co-existence among the religious groups in the state, the Ebonyi State government has inaugurated a 50-man Nigeria Inter-religious Council Committee (NIREC), with a charge to faithful to tolerate the ideals and organisational framework of the two main religions: Christianity and Islam, practised in the country.

Addressing a large gathering of Muslim and Christian faithful, on Tuesday, at the Women Development Centre, Abakaliki, Governor Martin Elechi, shortly after the inauguration of the committee, enjoined the members to be at the vanguard of educating and teaching their followers on tolerance and accommodation of other religions.

According to him, “if we must co-exist as a nation, we must know and understand our differences, live and let live, should be our watchword.

“We need to respect our religion to have inter-religious dialogue,” restating that the two ideologies needed to be critically analysed to enhance the peace and unity of the country.

Earlier in his address, the Anglican Bishop of Enugu, Emmanuel Chukwuma, who is equally the co- chairman of the South -East chapter of the Nigeria Inter-religious Council, attributed the prevalence of violence in the nation to the selfishness and ignorance of individuals in the society, who failed to understand the tenets of the religion they professed.

Bishop Chukwuma advocated for the inclusion of cooperative religious studies in universities’ curriculum in the country, in addition to more teachings on religious tolerance through seminars and workshops in the country.

Speaking against the backdrop of the menace of the Boko Haram sect, and the loss of life and property in recent times, due to the activities of the sect, the cleric described the sect as satanic, and enjoined all well meaning citizens to condemn the sect in its entirety.

He said “Boko Haram is not Islamic, it is satanical, every Muslim must condemn it in its entirety. It is a compounded satanism, every Muslim must disown it. What Boko Haram is doing is the work of the devil.”

The cleric restated that there was no alternative to peace, stressing that for the nation to attain its desire of being one of the leading industrial and viable economic nations of the world, peace and tolerance must be inculcated in the teachings and ideologies of followers of Islam and Christianity.

In his presentation, the vicar of the Catholic ChurchAbakaliki, and a resource person at the occasion, Rev Father Abraham Nwali, blamed the elites and religious fundamentalists for the extremism being exhibited by some adherents of both religion.

The occasion had in its attendance a large turn out of different faithful comprising the Christian community and its counterpart from the Moslem worshipers.

The governor and his clique wants to acquire the land of Agbaja people because they are in the heart of the town. They have shared it amongst themselves leaving the poor masses to suffer for their brutish and anti people policies that have bedevilled this state since the advent of this government. How can you reconcile a situation where the governor has not settled the Ezillo/ Ezza crisis and he is courting another crisis that might consume and paralise business activities in the town. How is he going to relocate rice mill? Does he think the position of rice mill has anything to do with rice production. This old governor should do something about increasing rice production not rice mill relocation. I have seen in this government that the wisdom of solomon has nothing to do with his age.

2,000 Protest Against Demolition Of Houses In Ebonyi

A group of protesters numbering over 2,000, on Tuesday, staged a peaceful demonstration in major streets of Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, against the state government’s alleged demolition of their houses in Agbaja community of Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state.

The protesters, comprising the aged, men, women, youths and children, marched through the popular Ogoja road, to the Government House, before they were accosted by a combined team of security agents that prevented them from reaching the state seat of power.

They carried placards with various inscriptions, “Govt we need peace”, “Provide us Accommodation,” “Save us from this hardship of demolition of our houses,” among others.

They decried the alleged demolition of their houses by agents of government laying pipes across the community for the water reticulation of the state capital.

A spokesperson of the group, Mr Kelvin Uguru, disclosed that their grievances stemmed from the fact that their community was yet to be paid compensation by the government for the acquisition of their land used for the construction of the new secretariat of the state.

He said they were also protesting against the state government’s directive to relocate the rice mill from Abakaliki to Ikwo.

In his reaction, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Chike Onwe, said that the protesters were not sincere in their alleged grievances, stating that the state government had put machineries in place to ensure adequate payment of compensation for lands it acquired.

He said the state government was committed to the enthronement of clean and environmentally decent capital city.

PoliticsTurai In Multi- Billion Naira Contract Mess by omamokta(op): 11:43am On Jan 13, 2012
FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed in dilemma

THE maxim which admonishes: ‘be kind to the people you meet on your way up because you may meet them on your way down,’ is true after all. Hajia Turai Umaru Yar'Adua might have started reaping the fruits of her (mis) conduct when her husband, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua who was the President of Nigeria took ill necessitating her being the most powerful individual in Presidential Villa, Asokoro, Abuja. During the over twelve months of her husband's last struggle with the ailment that eventually killed him, Turai was purported to be in charge of giving the final authority or any official matter or contract award which ordinarily is the prerogative of President Umaru Yar'Adua.

National Daily learned that the former first lady is seriously worried about the consequences of incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan's decision to review some of the multi-billion naira contract awarded during the last month of Yar'Adua's life particularly those awarded when he had been incapacitated and was unable to personally discharge his official responsibility. The president's intentions has received the backing of the senate.

- Usurpation

Competent sources affirmed that as was demanded by the constitution Jonathan was not allowed to take over the President's responsibility when he could no longer be effective for a long period until the senate intervened and pronounced Jonathan the acting president.

Turai was said to be at the head of the Cabal who seized the apparatus of government and took vital decision which in most cases served only selfish and parochial interest.

Following intense pressure from concerned groups and individuals, the senate resolved to probe into certain projects that touches on the infrastructural development and welfare of Nigerian's in the project area.

Among the progress currently under review is the Zuba-Mpape Road, Abuja, new residences for the Senate President, his Deputy, Speaker of the House of Representatives and his Deputy. The issue of 7 hectares of premium land she acquired on Airport Road, Lugbe, Abuja and the N10billion she raised purportedly to build her cancer centre is causing some furor between her and the new FCT minister who sources said is bent of retrieving the land.

- Retribution

National Daily learned that the current persistent effort to review inflated contracts and uncover abandoned ones said to be awarded under the influences of the former first lady was not only sanctioned by President Jonathan but was given a more sharpened teeth by the incumbent first lady, Patience Jonathan who is said not to have forgotten How Turai humiliated her husband when she was “Mama Excellency” of Aso Rock.

“The first lady is still recriminating the ordeal Jonathan was made to face by Turai when Yar'Adua was incapacitated instead of being made to hold brief for the former President, Jonathan was sidelined on the instructions of Turai. Jonathan spent hours in the office reading newspapers” an inside source said, adding: “the first lady is unhappy that Turai seized the opportunity to enrich herself through dubious projects and inflated contracts. She wants future first ladies to learn a lesson about humility”

The Senate in its determination to encourage prudent management of public funds, accountability and to drive the federal government's anti-corruption crusade empowered its committee on Federal Capital Territory headed by senator Smart Adeyemi to review some contracts awarded in the last days of Yar'Adua's administration. Among the contracts include Zuba-Mpape road dualisation which was awarded to CGC at the whooping cost of over N50 billion.

The committee reviewed the contract down ward and demanded that the contractors refund N30, billion paid as mobilization fee to the federal government.

- Sordid details

Competent sources disclosed that Turai and Adamu Aliero who was Minister of Federal Capital Territory were those that directly influenced the award of contract to CGC, a company said to represent Turai's interest.

The senator Adeyemi committee has so far made startling revelation of abandoned contracts in the FCT. “There's a case of four contractors that had been mobilized to build new residences for the Senate president, his deputy, speaker of the House of Representatives and his deputy for N3,044,675,974.54. The contract was awarded to Bussdor and company Limited, Persons Science Engineering Co. Limited, Shelter Development Limited. And Independent service Nigeria Limited but there was no visible progress on the contract execution.

Another dubious contract is the design and construction of the official residence of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which was originally awarded in October, 2009 at the cost of N7billion and reviewed upward to N16 billion. The senate committee discovered that the sites for the construction of these projects are non-existence.

“It is judgment day for Turai. It is time for her to account for her deeds as de facto president of Nigeria for the 12 months her husband was indisposed. She was absolutely in charge of decision making process and this affected appointments, contract and oil lifting license. During this period, the vice president (Goodluck Jonathan) was shut out. She was very hostile to the vice president, his staff and his wife, Patience. The incumbent first lady who was the wife of the vice president then, has not forgotten that experience. Now that her husband has become the president, she wants to cut the former first lady down to seize that is why she is influencing her husband's supporters in the senate to uncover Turai's fraudulent contract awards “our source said.

National Daily learned that the specific target of the probe are the contracts awarded by the FCT while the late President was either away in Saudi Arabia for treatment and when he was invalid in the presidential Villa.

Senator Smart Adeyemi, Senate Committee Chairman on the FCT is said to be vested with the responsibility to coordinate other “friends” of the first lady the senate to galvanize support for the senate to pass a resolution to review all contracts awarded by the FCT administration during the entire Yar'Adua years.

The executive arm of the “contract Review Project” is said be under the coordination of Senator Bala Mohammed, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Mohammed according to sources, has began moves to retrieve the land by cancelling the previous documents concerning the 7 hectares of land awarded to Turai by his predecessors, Adamu Aliero.

- Dilemma

However, when Information filtered into her, Turai was said to have made desperate effort to show that “there is work in progress at the site” and that the project has not been abandoned. It sources said that Mohammed is under pressure to confiscate the huge expanse of land a situation which is said to have turned a dilemma for the FCT minister whose appointment into office was said to have been influenced by the incumbent first lady. Mohammed's dilemma is allegedly heightened by the fact that he desires to run as governor of Bauchi State which he had the support of his state godfather, Governor Isa Yuguda. However, Yuguda is Yar'Adua's son in-law being married to one of his daughters, Nafsat, Yuguda will not support Mohammed to undo his mother in-law, Turai, so, Mohammed is in torn between loyalty to his Aso Rock benefactor and to his future ambition.

For some time now, Nigerian football has been in ruins. This is caused by the Football administrators we have in the country, who out of their ineptitude or sheer greed has made nigerians to groan in pain because of our football woes.
I supported Siasia to be given a chance to prove himself because of the sentiments the football pundits in this part of the world have raised about an indigenous coach but i always preferred a foreign technical adviser.
Now that Siasia has been tried and it did not work out, let us look at a foreign TA that knows this country like back of his palm, somebody who knows the temperament of an average Nigerian. Somebody that know the nooks and crannies of this country and can discover talents.
That person can be found in Maurice Cooreman, he has been here for more than a decade and knows our football. I know he can not rely on the foreign based footballers to achieve his aim.
SportsEriksson Enters Race For Eagles’ Job •i Can Coach Super Eagles -cooreman by omamokta(op): 1:39pm On Nov 01, 2011
A new twist has emerged in the search for a new technical adviser for the Super Eagles as former England and Manchester City Manager, Sven Goran Eriksson has been named as a new inclusion into the list of awaiting technical experts to be screened by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical committee members.

The NFF technical committee members are expected to meet today and nominate a successor to former gaffer, samson Siasia who was sacked last Friday.

The decision of the wise men which include ex-footballers and past soccer adminsitration will be announced on Wednesday to a waiting and apprehensive soccer fans.

Although four names have been touted to step into the technical adviser role of the Super Eagles viz: Stephen Keshi, Sunday Oliseh, Daniel Amokachi and Bruno Metsu however, Tribunesports realiably gathered in London yesterday through Erickson agent that the Swede has been contacted by the NFF.

Efforts by Tribunesports to get reactions from Nigeria prove abortive as the Chairman of the NFF technical committee Barrister Chris Green, merely said that it was an internal matter for the committee to decide who handles the national team.

Also speaking on Monday Night Football of the DSTV Cable Television, a member of the technical committee, Victor Nosa Ikpeba said that if there was a need for a foreign technical adviser, nothing would stop the NFF from going for an experienced and knowledgeable coach.

Meanwhile, KADUNA United head coach, Maurice Cooreman has joined the list of potential coaches to have signified interest in managing the Super Eagles.

Cooreman said "I have lived in Nigeria for more than a decade. I know the people and I know their football very well even though I am a foreigner. And I know what the people think concerning football too.

"But I no longer see myself as a foreigner in this country because I am part and parcel of their football now. I have managed several clubs and people know what I have achieved with them."

According to supersport, the Belgian coach believes he is capable of managing the Super Eagles' stars.

Cooreman also said his experience of travelling around the country on a weekly basis as an NPL coach gives him an edge of discovering new talents for the Super Eagles.

"I know over the years that the problem has been managing the national team players. That is why I said I know the players well and I can manage them well. I have seen a lot of players in the league who can turn out to be big players for Nigeria if they are properly groomed.

"And I know I can scout round the country and look for players that will complement the efforts of the foreign-based players. I have worked with some of the players now in the national team. Taye Taiwo was my player at Lobi, Austin Ejide worked with me at Gabros and others," Cooreman said.

On Stephen Keshi and Sunday Oliseh as probable Super Eagles' head coach, Cooreman believes both men have towering pedigrees in the game.

But the Kaduna United coach fears that both men might lack man-manage citing Keshi's row with Togo star, Emmanuel Adebayor.

"I have big, big respect for Keshi and Oliseh. They were very good players. Keshi has a very good pedigree and same for Oliseh. But coaching and managing go together and I don't know if they are ready to do this because the Super Eagles is a very different team.

"Remember Keshi had problems with Adebayor, who is Togo's biggest player. Keshi achieved the World Cup ticket with Togo but still he didn't show he can manage his players well," Cooreman told SuperSport.com.

Cooreman has won the NPL title with Ocean Boys and Enyimba while he led Kaduna United to win the Federation Cup in 2010.

He was also head coach at Gabros International FC and Lobi Stars.

Ghanaians who came to London for the botched August 9 international friendlyagainst Nigeria left London writhing in pains as they were confident the Super Eagles would have fallen for the umpteenth time had both countries taken to the pitch at the Vicarage Road Stadium, Watford.

Few hours after it was confirmed that the game had been called off by the policefor security reasons, no thanks to the riots that engulfed England, some members of the Ghana National Supporters Union (GNSU) stormed the Watford Hilton hotel abode of the Eagles, where they exchanged pleasantries with their Nigerian counterparts led by Dr Rauf Ladipo.

One of the GNSU members, who simply gave his name as Koffi told Daily Sunsports that Nigeria was the biggest beneficiary of the events that led to the cancellation of the big game.
In Koffi's words: “We came to bury the Super Eagles in Watford. We “killed” your team way back in Brendford in 2007 when we beat you 4-1. We would have buried the Eagles today (Tuesday) in Watford.”
Koffi pointed out that the Black Stars were battle ready for Nigeria and would not have allowed the Eagles to win the game.

“We know Nigeria came here on a revenge mission, I tell you it would not have been possible today. We take every game against Nigeria very serious and we want to continue the dominance.” It would be noted that organisers of the friendly have fixed October 11 as new date for the botched friendly.

SportsEneramo Regrets Playing For Nigeria by omamokta(op): 11:36am On Aug 04, 2011
Sivasspor striker, Michael Eneramo, has expressed disappointment that he featured for Nigeria’s Super Eagles as an international player.

Eneramo has made 10 appearances for the Super Eagles and has scored thrice. The 25-year-old said after playing during the eras of Amodu Shuaibu and Austin Eguavoen as Nigeria’s head coaches he expects to figure in the plans of Samson Siasia.

“I’m not happy that after playing for Nigeria that I’m getting no chance at all again because I had the chance to play for Tunisia.

“I played for Nigeria when coach Amodu Shuaibu was in charge but I don’t know why I’m not being considered now,” lamented the big forward.

Eneramo had considered taking up Tunisian citizenship two years ago while on the books of Esperance in a bid to be eligible to play for their men’s national team.

But the former Lobi Stars man was convinced to join the Nigerian setup and made his debut for the Super Eagles in February 2009.

Since Siasia became Nigeria head coach, Eneramo like other strikers have not been considered for recent games of the Super Eagles.
PoliticsRe: Al-mustapha: Ige, Adesanya Used After Abiola’s Death by omamokta(op): 11:14am On Aug 04, 2011
This guy should substantiate his claims with enough evidence, it is good we are witnessing something like this so that our leaders of the past, whom we presumed holy could be really ascertained. With a video clip like he claimed, everything will be bare.
PoliticsAl-mustapha: Ige, Adesanya Used After Abiola’s Death by omamokta(op): 11:01am On Aug 04, 2011
Former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, Wednesday continued his testimonies before a Lagos High Court in Igbosere, alleging that the late Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige, and former Afenifere leader, Pa Abraham Adesanya, were “used” after the death of the acclaimed winner of the 1993 presidential election, Bashorun MKO Abiola.

Al-Mustapha, in his evidence-in-chief before Justice Mojisola Dada, also said Adesanya led Yoruba leaders to the Presidential Villa to meet the then Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, in order to douse the tension generated by Abiola’s death.
Al-Mustapha, who is standing trial for alleged complicity in the murder of Abiola’s wife, Kudirat, added that though the Yoruba leaders were unconsciously used in the alleged murder of Abiola, they however kept quiet when they realised that they had been used.
He tendered a VHS video tape labelled “Abraham Adesanya’s Visit to the Villa” and requested through his lawyer, Olalekan Ojo, that it be played in the court but the judge objected on the ground that the court room was too stuffy and that she could hardly breathe as a result of lack of air conditioner.

The judge however said the video tape would be played Thursday at the continuation of the trial.
Al-Mustapha, in his testimony, also told the court that shortly after the sitting of the Human Rights Violations Investigation Commission Report (aka Oputa Panel) in Abuja, he wrote an 11-page letter to Ige entitled “How You (Chief Bola Ige) Were Used in the Murder of Abiola”.

He said: “I was separated from Abiola and the late Chief Bola Ige was brought to the Presidency as a liaison to the South-west leaders and to bring people against our collective agreement which was to allow Abiola to go home. At this material time, monies were disbursed to a number of people negotiating on Abiola rather than allowing him to go home.
“I have two tapes which recorded both their (Yoruba leaders) coming into the Villa and their departure. When they came into the Villa to see Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, there are two cameras used, one for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the second was operated by my body guard attached to the Villa.

“When they arrived, they appeared angry and refused to grant interview. But when they were leaving, their countenances and statements changed. It was no longer about June 12 and Abiola’s matter; it was now the issue of state security and the need for the country to forge ahead.

“I was in the Presidency and was in the process of handing over to the new Chief Security Officer on the one hand and Abdulsalami on the other hand. I was briefing General Abdulsalami on issues of national security. I also drafted a 16-point agenda with Abdulsalami. Part of the agenda was Chief Abiola’s release from detention and short transition programme.
“Along the line, I was asked to hand over issues about Chief Abiola to late Chief Bola Ige. He (Ige) was appointed as a liaison officer between the Presidency and the South-west. Chief Ige continued to bring South-west leaders to the Presidency against our initial plan to let M.K.O Abiola go home or to be given his mandate within a short time.

“After the death of Abiola and during one of the visits by the Yoruba leaders to Aso Rock, this particular visit was led by Chief Abraham Adesanya. When they got to the Villa, they were visibly angry, annoyed and mad and refused to speak to the press men within the Villa.
“But when they were leaving, their comments were totally the reversal from the situation on ground in the country. They were very happy while leaving! The reaction and comments by late Pa Abraham Adesanya on the situation in the country at that particular time clearly put June 12 issue as secondary and they were saying that no matter what, the country must forge ahead.
“There were two cameras that captured the visit; one was for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), while the other one was for me. I stationed and instructed my bodyguard to capture the whole thing.

“That was one of the major reasons why Abdulsalami had to seize everything I had including documents, tapes and even my shoes.
“Whether Chief Bola Ige knew that he was used to murder Chief Abiola is another matter entirely because I wrote him an 11-page letter between June and July, 2001.”
Absolving himself of complicity in Kudirat’s death, Al-Mustapha told the court that his plight was due to the fact that he knew a lot about what happened at the time.

He said in order to nail him at all costs, soldiers who served under him as members of his body guards and Strike Force including his personal orderly were induced to give evidence against him at the Special Investigation Panel (SIP) set up to investigate the alleged crime.

The former CSO also tendered a letter with reference number NSA/320/5 dated July 8, 1998 (a day after Abiola’s death) allegedly written by Major-General Abdullahi Mohammed, the then National Security Adviser (NSA) and approved by Abubakar directing the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to release $200 million, £75 million and N500 million in cash.

The letter, which was read in the open court, stated that the money was needed following the sudden event of July 7, 1998 (Abiola death) in the country and due to influx of visitors from within and outside the country as well as for administrative purposes.
On how he got the letter, he said: “I was still at the Presidential Villa handing over property of the Presidency to the new Head of State. The secretariat where photocopy of the letter was made was the same secretariat that I headed as CSO to Gen. Abacha. I got copies from the memory of the photocopier machine.”

He said he was still in the Villa at that particular time and was in the process of handing over to the new CSO, adding that by virtue of his presence in the Villa, he was able to retrieve a memo from counter espionage photocopier machine signed by Abdusalami and the then NSA.

In the memo, Al-Mustapha said the CBN governor (then Mr. Paul Ogwumah) was directed to withdraw funds from the treasury. The memo was with reference number NSA/A/320/5 and was dated July 8, 1998 and was tendered and admitted as exhibit D12.
He said the publisher of Abuja Mirror and elder brother to the former Inspector General of Police (IG), Abadina Coomassie, also got the memo through a source in the CBN. He alleged that unfortunately, Coomassie was poisoned while planning to publish the memo.

Giving background to the massive withdrawal of money from the CBN, Al-Mustapha alleged that Abdusalami instructed the then NSA to raise a memo requesting funds and disguised as if the funds were meant to take care of visitors to the Presidency both internationally and within the country; to service presidential aircraft fleet and to take care of logistics of the soldiers in Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Part of the money, according to Al-Mustapha, was used to appease South-west leaders and douse the tension that trailed Abiola’s death.
He added that after the approval of the memo, the CBN governor was specifically instructed on phone to bring the cash to Aso Rock.
The case continues Thursday.

PoliticsRe: Tokunbo Prisoners: 16,400 Nigerians In Uk Jails by omamokta(op): 11:32am On Jul 28, 2011
If these Nigerian convicts know what these senators are planning for them, they should go for dry fasting. The prison inmates in UK are far better than most Nigerians that are not in prison in Nigeria. They are well taken care of, with good tattoos and good physique gotten from body building to while away time. In Nigerian prisons, how many of them are well fed to pump iron.
PoliticsTokunbo Prisoners: 16,400 Nigerians In Uk Jails by omamokta(op): 11:25am On Jul 28, 2011
Senators yesterday sang discordant tunes over the fate of about 16,400 Nigerians languishing in prisons across the United Kingdom (UK).

Some Senators wanted the National Assembly to pass a resolution which would compel the Federal Government to bring the prisoners back home as the UK Government spend £1.6m to feed the prisoners per day. Others countered that the nation’s economy cannot accomodate such influx.

This came up during the debate on a bill for an Act to repatriate Nigerian convicted prisoners serving various jail terms in the Common Wealth countries sponsored by Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN).

Senator Benedict Ayade told the Senate that “in the United Kingdom alone, Nigerians serving various prison term are 16, 4000 in number and it cost the UK government about 1.6 million pounds per day to feed them.”
Senate President David Mark expressed unhappiness at the number of Nigerians serving jail terms in the UK alone.

He said: “There are safeguards in the bill, but I am shocked to hear that there are 16,400 Nigerians in various prisons abroad, this is a thing not to be proud of, we don’t know the authenticity of the figure, but it calls for concern. The lesson is that we should improve our prisons for the purpose of reformation, it is not right to transfer the responsibility of reformation to other nations.”

Leading debate on the bill, which seeks to amend the transfer of convicted offenders (Enactment and Enforcement) Act, Senator Ndoma-Egba who sponsored the bill which was read for the first time on July 20, 2011 stated that the bill was to give effect to the Common Wealth scheme on convicted offenders between Common Wealth countries.

He added that the bill was seeking to amend the provisions of the extant Act by removing the consent and verification procedure of returning convicted prisoners to serve their term in Nigeria.
Ndome-Egba noted that the present Act is replete with some deficiencies that if not adequately addressed would jeopardize its execution, adding that it was the recognition of the inherent shortcomings in the extant Act that necessitated the need to amend it.

To effectively streamline the law, the Senate Leader insisted that Sub-section 5(1)(d) and Section 8 of the Nigeria Constitution, seeking the consent of the convicted offender and which has to do with the consent and verification of the convicted offender of the principal Act were to be amended respectively.

Senators opposed to the bill insisted that the financial implication of transferring prisoners back home would be too much for the country to shoulder. They also said that apart from the action being an infringement of fundamental human right of an individual, they also said that nobody would be convicted abroad especially the UK and would like to serve his jail term in Nigeria even if it was just a week.

The bill was however referred to Committee on Judiciary, Human Right and Legal Matter when constituted.

SportsNigeria Vs Argentina: Nigeria To Pay $1m For Withdrawal by omamokta(op): 11:28am On Jul 01, 2011
Organisers of the friendly international between Nigeria and Argentina on September 6, who are considering providing a chartered aircraft to fly the Super Eagles from Madagascar to Dhaka, have warned that Nigeria risk paying a compensation of around a million dollars if they withdraw from the game.

NFF secretary general, Musa Amadu had signed a contract with the organisers, but executive committee members are unhappy with the timing of the match, which comes just three days after the Super Eagles play Madagascar in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. “The contract provides for a compensation of around one million dollars if we fail to honour the game,” a top NFF official told KickOffNigeria.com.

“But they have informed us that they are willing to provide a chartered aircraft to help ease the discomfort of flying over such a long way to Asia.”
Nigeria coach Samson Siasia remains unhappy about the game, as are the majority of his squad.
