PoliticsElechi Hails Supreme Court Verdict, Pledges More Work by omamokta(op): 10:49am On Mar 07, 2012
Ebonyi State Governor Martin Elechi, has pledged more dedicated service to the people of the state now that the final judicial huddle over his mandate has been set aside by the Supreme Court. Elechi promised not to disappoint the people of the state as he runs the last lap of his administration. The Supreme Court had dismissed the petition brought by the governorship candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, in the April 26 general elections, Senator Julius Ali Ucha, challenging the election of Governor Elechi.

But, Elechi, who was in a joyful mood as he addressed Government House workers and other well wishers that thronged the governor's lodge to congratulate him on his final victory at the apex court, said he would do anything, in so far as it is within his powers, to ensure the happiness and welfare of the people.

The governor said his victory at the tribunal, appeal court and finally the Supreme Court has shown that no amount of violence can thwart the will of the people. He said the time of banditry and brigandage in elections are over as no amount of terrorism will win election for anybody. Elechi expressed gratitude to the electorate, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and the judiciary for their various roles in consolidating his mandate.

Meanwhile, Ucha has expressed gratitude to his teeming supporters and those that voted for him during the election. He said that their hope in God should not be dampened by the judgment that dismissed his application to upturn the election of Governor Elechi. In a statement by his media aide, Emmanuel Uzor and made available to journalists in Abakaliki yesterday, Ucha said they should not despair because their prayers and supplications to God were not in vain.

He said God at His appointed time will hear them and save them. Ucha said however that the apex court's judgment marked the end of the human judgment against the injustice meted to me and indeed the entire Ebonyi people when the mandate they overwhelmingly gave to me was snatched by some political elements but, it is just the beginning, he declared

RomanceCan Marriage Work Where The Woman Earns More Than Her Husband? by omamokta(op): 1:35pm On Mar 05, 2012
Husbands used to be the sole providers for their families while the women stayed at home to take care of children and the house, and the few women who worked did so for a few hours. But in recent times, many women go to work, working their way right to the top, putting in long hours and choosing careers that would give them more money and an edge in life. As such, an increasing number of women earn as much as their spouses or even more. According to statistics, about20 per cent of wives out-earn their spouses.

A curse or a blessing?

A situation where the woman works and earns a good salary is supposed to be a blessing as more money is available to the family, but quite a number of men are still uncomfortable about this. Her better income means that she will have to do more financially such as paying school fees, bills, taking care of the family's needs and holiday trips. In some families, this big shift in responsibilities has created serious problems. It appears that quite a number of people still prefer the traditional role where the man supports and provides for the family and the woman takes care of the home front.

There have been cases of wives who had become disrespectful and uncontrollable because they earned more incomes than their husbands. Of course, not all women are like this because what people do is a matter of who they are and what they believe.

There are women who feel very uncomfortable or guilty for earning more, while some others have the attitude that says, ˜I am the main bread winner, why must I do any other thing in the house? There are instances where husbands no longer eat at home simply because their wives insult them every time they give them food. There are husbands who go to people outside to borrow money because they dare not ask their wives for loans or grants.

A man in such a situation would go out to borrow in order to avoid insults from his wife, who sees her money as solely belonging to her. You would often hear such a wife refer to her personal belongings as ˜my money, ˜my car,˜my house. One of the women I spoke to about this issue said earning more would make the woman lose all respect for her husband which would eventually affect the marriage as a whole. I immediately asked her,˜Why should she lose respect for her husband? The word of God reads, Who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?

(1Corinthians 4:7) (NIV) Indeed, what do we have which has not been given to us by God? Whenever the wife earns more than her husband, it is by God's grace! And who knows, maybe for this reason she has been put in that position: to complement the efforts of her husband in her God-given role as a ˜help meet, that is, a helper that is suitable for her husband. In Esther 4:14, the Scripture says, “For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise¦ from another place ¦ Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

(NKJV) A wife who has more money should support her husband and family. At the time my husband and I were starting out, I sponsored and bought most of the things we had. And I am sure many people before me have done likewise, and many more will still support their husbands. Why do you need to support him? Because marriage is a union of two people. You are married to him to provide that part of him that may not be there at present, realising too that no condition is permanent, as positions could be reversed as God wishes! You married him as the solution to that God-observed gap of loneliness which could be financial, physical or emotional. You should be friends, and friends support each other.

Don't let money destroy your marriage; rather utilise money and other resources to save it. Remind yourself regularly that money should not be an issue. Let it make no difference to your marriage; if something needs to be done, let it get done without looking around or thinking of what your husband is doing or bringing into the family. A wife who is in a better financial position should watch her attitude and manners because it is possible to begin to react negatively (and hence, seemingly proudly) each time her husband or her family makes demands on her. She should not think that her husband is trying to take advantage of her. Instead, she should see what she can do to better empower her husband.

While she's at it, she should also encourage and let him know he is still loved and appreciated for what he does for the family. Additionally, the woman should try to keep things balanced in her family. She should not allow her job to take precedence over her family and if her husband is doing things that upset or discourage her, then it's time for them to talk.

For husbands

Don't feel bad, threatened, insecure or resentful towards your wife if she earns more than you. Some men feel threatened to the extent that they suspect or even accuse their wives of having extra marital affairs, and whenever she returns home late, she's in trouble.

There was an instance of a wife who kept telling her husband that she could never cheat on him but he didn't believe her, and he beat her up several times simply because he was jealous of her success. Such reaction is both demeaning and absolutely wrong! He should see her achievement as a good thing and be happy for her, support her and enjoy what they have together. If she hasn't changed, there is no reason for you to change.

But if you think she's behaving in a way you don't like, then talk to her about it.

For couples

Couples in this situation should embrace dialogue. They should talk, talk and talk! They should discuss and agree on how they can work together to improve their lot and keep the family happy and running smoothly. Some of the issues to be discussed should include first, whether or not he needs to get a better job, and second, what should be the areas of responsibility of each party, in regard to meeting the financial needs of the family? Third, how can they have a good relationship? And fourth, has either of them changed since she began to earn more than the man?

They should also focus on their marriage, loving each other and doing things that would make them happy. If they can't agree, they should go for counselling because there is no reason for the marriage to end in divorce or not work

If they can implement it, it will be very good. This INNOSON man is a genius that needs to be complemented if Nigeria is to move foward. His buses can compete favourably with FOTON and some of these Chinese cars and buses that ply our ways for some years now, if some government agencies can patronise BINJEI and co, why not INNOSON. Kudos INNOSON!
PoliticsBuy Nigeria: Law Makers Approve Innoson Vehicles For Official Use by omamokta(op): 12:14pm On Mar 01, 2012
THE House of Representatives Committee on local content has approved the use of Innoson vehicles for its official activities. The approval was endorsed by the law makers after visiting the motor plant at Nnewi, Anambra State.

Chairman of the House Committee on local content, Asita Honourable said they came to verify the level of local input in Innoson vehicles which is part of their official responsibilities. He said that they were happy to discover that more than half of the auto components were locally produced and urged Nigerians to patronise the company.

“The Innoson Motor Plant at Nnewi is a huge honour to Nigeria. What is going on at Nnewi is an amazing feat which needs to be encouraged. This is not an assembly plant, but a full production site where Nigerian auto engineers are exhibiting their skills. We saw them and felt extremely impressed that such marvelous feat is exsisting in the country.”

He, therefore, stated that the committee would support Innoson by using its buses in carrying out official activities. “The high standard of Innoson vehicles has made us to endorse it for our jobs. We have resolved to make it an official vehicle for the assembly.”

The Chairman also praised the vision of the company chairman Chief, Dr. Innocent Chukwuma, saying that his ingenuity has added value to the manufacturing sector.

PoliticsRe: Ebonyi Massacre:2 Months After, Victims’ Families Still Cry For Justice by omamokta(op): 12:00pm On Mar 01, 2012
Since this man became the governor of the state about five years ago, the only things we hear of in Ebonyi state are horrible stories. Killings maimings, are the order of the day because a bad man is on the throne. God please help Ebonyi State.
PoliticsEbonyi Massacre:2 Months After, Victims’ Families Still Cry For Justice by omamokta(op): 11:56am On Mar 01, 2012
It is over two months now that some armed men from Ezza, Ebonyi State, allegedly invaded a neigbouring town, Ezillo, and massacred over 80 persons. The governments (federal, state and local), and security agencies are treatting the suspects with kid gloves. At least, this is the thinking of the grieving community. The mass murder occurred on December 31, 2011.

As far as Ezillo is concerned, the authorities concerned are lukewarm and indifferent to their plight, a development they said, that has even worsened the condition of those, who survived the senseless killings.
Property worth millions of naira, including houses, were destroyed by the invaders. The survivors of the massacre have vowed not to rest on their oars until those behind the dastardly act are made to bear the full weight of the law.

As part of the efforts to achieve the objective, a body representing the embattled community, Federated Ezillo General Assembly (FEGA), has written petitions to President Goodluck Jonathan, the Inspector General of Police, the Senate, House of Representatives, International Criminal Court, Hague, and Amnesty International, Geneva, Switzerland. All the petitions were jointly signed by the president of the assembly, Enyi Innocent, Secretary, Igwe’s cabinet, Chief Umoke Raphael, Abba James. Others are, Igboke Samuel, Ikechukwu Eze, Okonwada Onwe and Abel Ebenyi.

In the petition, the Assembly narrated how people from Ezza invaded the community on the New Year’s eve and gruesomely murdered men, women (including pregnant women) youths (boys and girls) and little children.
According to the town, the December 2011, attack was not the first to be carried out against Ezillo in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state by people from Ezza.
“In the face of these premeditated but unwarranted attacks, we have always kept our cool, and maintained peace, law and order. We have never attempted reprisal attacks on our assailants, the Ezzas,” the petition to President Jonathan said.

The petition continued: “These attacks, however, came to the climax on 31st December, 2011. While our people were busy, celebrating Christmas like others, worldwide, the Ezza people invaded our community in their hundreds, with guns, machetes, bows, arrows and other dangerous weapons. They killed, raped and maimed our people. They destroyed houses and other property belonging to our people. At the end of the mindless killing, looting, mayhem and brigandage, hundreds of our people, particularly, children and women, lay dead. Countless houses were razed, many Ezillo people rendered homeless. They have become refugees even in their own town.”
“We are particularly pained, your Excellency, by the docile attitude of policemen, to this genocide and mass murder of our people. This is because, we got wind of the plan by Ezza, to attack our community and accordingly, we passed the information to the police. But the police failed woefully to take any proactive steps or action, to prevent the mayhem and vandalism.”

Alleging that the state government and the police command have failed to take steps to arrest and bring the perpetrators of the heinous act to book, the community appealed for the president’s intervention.
The petition further said: “We implore you, Mr. President, to kindly institute a high-powered Commissions of Enquiries into the incident, to unearth the reason for the massacre. This type of mayhem needs to be nipped in the bud in Ebonyi State, before it is too late. But, Mr. President, you should act now, you are our last hope, haven been betrayed by the police and Ebonyi State government. The only tribute we can pay to our fallen kinsmen and women is to guard against the recurrence of the massacre, which sent them to their untimely graves. The federal government under your Excellency holds the ace.”

The tone and content of the petition to the Inspector General of police are not too different from the one to the president. Ezillo urged the number one cop to commence full investigation into the matter without delay, adding that the suspects are still around and well known to members of the public. The Assembly appealed to the police boss to establish a mobile police base in the town, to check incessant killings, arson and armed robbery in future. In the petition to the International Criminal Court, the community also alleged that some government officials and prominent politicians in the state prevailed on the police and law enforcement agents to keep away, in order to pave way for the annihilation of the people of Ezillo.

It said: “There appears to be a grand conspiracy to wipe us out from the surface of the earth. Government, law enforcement agencies and the Nigerian people, appeared to have abandoned and left us to our fate. Please, save us from this planned and orchestrated extermination.”
In the petition to the Amnesty International, the community recounted the tale of woes, and how the Nigerian government has refused to act, after the unprovoked attacks.

“No efforts have been made to fish out the perpetrators of the mayhem, their sponsors and collaborators. The Nigerian nation talks about terrorist attacks, by the dreaded Boko Haram in churches, streets and hamlets.
Nobody has said anything about the senseless killings and massacre of our people.”
Following the apathy of the Nigerian government to come to our aid, we have no other alternative but to make this Macedonian call on your organization, to come to our aid. There is conspiracy to eliminate and annihilate our community.

We have a right to live and to own our lands. We are at a loss, as to why we are being discriminated against and marginalized by our neighbours. We cannot continue to live in fear and trepidation. We cannot guarantee that there will not be further attacks, which will consume innocent lives. We are now living in mortal fears and apprehension,” the petition further stated.

The one, addressed to the Senate President, Chief David Mark, was more of a repeat of what the community claimed in other petitions. But recalled that hundreds of bodies of victims are still in the mortuaries.
“As we write to your Excellency, hundreds of Ezillo people are lying dead in various mortuaries.
In a separate statement issued by the Assembly recently, it said members of the community are law-abiding and have faith in the laws of the land, which guarantee protection of citizens and punishment of those who are lawless.
