u knw d saying dat gose"u can take a girl out of the barracks, but u cannot take d barracks out of her" thats wats happaening to nigerians every wia but we seriously need a change of attitude every wia u go almost the same thing.
My question is, why do they have to send staffs with moronic attitude down here, why cant they hire the Nigerians down in England than to bring down someone who would be acting like a real "LOKI" or should I say "LOCOTARIAN"

Awww, I feel sorry for everyone who has had a bad, and terrible experiences with Nigerian Embassies, however, I must say I can see their rudeness and incompetence is everywhere. They are no different here in DC. As for the guy who had his passport lost and found from no where, did you file a report with the Department of State? I mean you couldn't have been the only victim of such crime, just that you took it a little bit serious. As for Nigeria, we have a long way ahead of us.
I wasnt the guy, but I was present on that day, the guy in question was infront me, but he was told to get out! in a dismissive way! I frooze at that point, they said they couldnt find his passport and he should go and apply for another one, I was thinking this was a joke! They guy walked out slowly, I first thought that this guy has been mugged off that his passport has gone, but when the police arrived, you know what the police were prepared turn the embassy inside out until they find the PPT

Am telling you, yesterday I got there and my heart sank, it was so hot in the basement, no order, no lines, no control, i saw the person in charge he looked like a character from planet of the ape, with his weird looking beard,

i just turned back because I wasnt mentally prepared for "SIn City" you need half of bottle of brandy before you walk inside the embassy

Charity normally begins at home. U cant expect less from our embassy
The shocking part was that the way the passport appeared from nowhere

Was it not 2 years ago when one of the top diplomat threw a punch at a member of the public after a demonstration about the guy who died on a Spanish airline,

It was a disgrace of the highest order, the luck that man had was the guy didnt press charges!!!

I went there yesterday because I paid on line for my visa,  thats when I was told that the online service is a no no, i said whats the point of having it on the home page of the high commission's website!!! I looked inside the place it looked like a meat market, I turned back and went back to work because I thought I got get things sorted during break, but I thought wrong,

sometime between 2004 - 2005, I think the guy submitted his passport for a visa and came back 2 days later, they told the guy that they couldnt find his passport and theirs nothing they could do about it. The guy turned away, you would think that the case is closed but no, 20 minutes later the Police arrived, they gave the admin workers 30 minutes to produce the guys passport, but after 30 minutes the still didnt produced the passport, so they ordered everyone to step outside that they are going to search the whole building, by this time more policemen arrived! 5 minutes later they produced the guys passport from nowhere!!!!

I was so ashamed, people hurled abuses at them, they had to close early!!!

IMHO if anyone can't properly write a CV or cover letter in English, then they don't deserve a job.
Ermmmmmmmm they are people (even Companies) who could take care of your CV,

Omar22,
Without going into too much details;
English language has more than one part, fluent speech is just one!

Grammatical correctness is another. Tenses, Nuances, Pronunciation, e.t.c. are just some other parts!

The "ability" to master the various parts, is what constitutes "A SKILL".

You can be fluent (like most of those "Aje-butter", many of them actually fail use of English at WAEC level, so you see?  ) and still be woeful when it comes to English language skills.

My humble contribution.
Lastpage
Having a distinction in English Language doesn’t mean you are more equipped to be a speaker in the house of parliament, and then you mentioned pronunciation; well,so practically you’re saying that an Indian with an Indian accent would be at disadvantage because he/she couldn’t pronounce a word with the queens accent. This is another draw back on the Nigerian economy and an increase of unemployment. Tell me which role does English language play when securing an engineering position, or an analyst or an accountant?

I live in England, the best person gets the Job and not the person who could waffle his way through a job interview, they are so many people working in Europe, in high powered roles but their English is hideous, but as time goes on, they learn or improve, but these people are valuable to their organisation because of their skills to carry out their job is more important to them, other than how good their English is. Indians, Asians, Eastern Europeans etc. all have very good jobs despite the fact that their ability to speak fluent English is below the acceptable level, but its not an issue.

Samparian, I am pleased to inform you that as at the time, i started this thread, i had contacted a top indian producer and he mentioned exactly what you said about studios, presently, am aware of a northerner and at least one serious foreigner who want to come and build production studios in Nigeria.
Forums between india and nigeria, (indian having passed though all most of our current problems) might just be a solution to some of theissues everyone is raising.

One thing i can confidently say right now is that india is interested in the nigerian market, the question now remains if nigeria is willing to work with them or we want continue to pretend to compete where there is really no competition
Most foreigners / foreign film-makers are looking for a cheap site to shoot their films, the Americans were not happy with Peter Jackson because he decided to shoot the blockbuster movie Lords of the Ring in newzealand, Wesley Snipe's films are being shot in Eastern Europe, It would be a great Idea if they invest in Nigeria

Is English language a skill?
NO NO NO

Its an ability,  far from a Skill

An ability to speak it fluently
An ability to read it,

So if English Language is a skill, then Hausa language is also a skill.

1. India (1091) to the Cinema worldwide

2. Nigeria (872) to Home videos

Knowing that 99% of Nigerian films would have a part 2, 3, 4 if possible

This is an unfair comparison, putting an Actress up against a singer is so unfair, we all know singers somethings could look hideous (amy winehouse)

Let put Genevieve up against a Halle Berry, Megan Fox, Jlo, A Rai, Gisele Bündchen, Eva Mendez or Longoria or J Esposito

May i have your attention please.

i'm not here to compare Nollywood and Bollywood, because there's no comparison. Till date, we cannot make or match Bollywood movies of 1980 or even 1975.
Like Hollywood, Bollywood recovers its investments from Cinemas. Nollywood has no cinema tradition because of insecurity, So we only get back our money from direct sales of DVDs.
Some producers dont get back their investments after shooting a movie.
I've supervised a movie production a couple of years back and i've also featured in a movie so i know what i'm talking about.

I've also witnessed movie productions in Asia so i know we are in two different worlds. they shoot their movies on celluliod while we recently graduated from Betacam to HDVCAM. Even the HDVCAM is hired by our producers. 90% of our producers do not own any equipment because those equipments are very expensive and that is why we produce movies faster than akara balls so as to reduce cost of production.

Nollywood and Bollywood can work together if:
1. There is a good story that can bring them together
2. Real investors from Nigeria willing to finance/ co produce such a story
3. Patience of the Nigerian investor ie willingness to wait for like 6 months minimum for production.

when we have this, we can work together. Bollywood doesnt need us to progress, we need them to move ahead.
SPOT ON

Enough said!!! I mentioned something along the same line, but people showed their level of ignorance, I saw Kuch Kuch Hota hai (one of Shah Ruhk Khan first movies in 19987/cool when it came out, when you compare it with Nigerian's Oscar winning film called "Jenifer" that recently came out, Then you would realise that the journey has just started for us!

Inferiority complex too dey worry una 4 Naija
Its got nothing to do with complexity, its a business venture, trying to merge 2 brand products its like 2 + 2 = 3 and not 5

And in the Music industry its easy for a nigerian singer to collabo with any singer in the world because the music industry have moved leap and bounds to improve the quality of their music, but the film industry they stood still churning out rubbish on a daily basis (approx 6 to 7 movies a day)

I was once in a restuarant in South London, and I realised that 3 tables away from me they were shooting a scene for a nollywood movie and I gasp that WTF is going on here,

Atleast they should've acted like normal customers who came into a resturant, but no they had to over do it,

"That contract of a project worth £2m" was signed in a resturant,(Part of the movie storyline)  the guy given it all large, he would do this do that,  and everyone was looking at them, they should have asked the people in the restuarant to act normal and continue with their food and drinks but NO NO NO,   A year later my mother called to say I could have dressed more decent if I was going to appear in a movie, I said to her that I just finished playing football and I was starving,  I couldnt careless whether the guy with the camera man was a local or Martin Scorsese. I was so hungary to be bother about what they were doing,  Another day in Thamesmead around 10am I heard someone shouting outside so I looked out of the window, guess what it was Jide Kosoko on the mobile bragging giving it large, calling £m as if he was Bill Gates, I thought it was a joke until realised that they were shooting a movie,  I felt ashamed at that moment, because I have walked past a Bolywood movie setting around East London! the difference is like a gulf in size,

Let some artists from Portugal with its small population say they want to “collabo” with Bollywood, I bet you, they would simulcast in their nationwide.
Well Freida Pinto (slum dog millionaire) is from a GOA an area in India owned or colonized by Portugal

Why not!! The indians will jump at it. Nigeria is a big country to them irrespective of the present condition of things. These guys think of nigeria like the US.
Tell me how it would benefit the indians? Nigeria is big but India is almost 10 times bigger in both economy and in population, Nollywood brand! how would you attract a collaboration with Bollywood when it wont benefit them,
TV/Movies › Re: Jenifa the. blockbuster by omar22(m): 6:57pm On Jun 23, 2009
I saw the film, it was very funny but when I had the time to digest it,

I realised that
(1) The Storyline was poor
(2) Poor arrangement (no head, no body, no tail) it was thrown together like a meat market
(3) too much shouting
(4) Over-cooking their act
(5) too fictional and unrealistic (we have a university class of 4-5 students looking over 40 years and rest look like toddlers)

Am sorry if this is the best Nigeria could produce, then we havent moved forward from the days of Fadeyi Oloro and Abija, Oyiboyi and Co.
TV/Movies › Re: Can Nollywood And Bollywood Ever Work Together? by omar22(m): 6:42pm On Jun 23, 2009
or should I say Congowood!!!

In all honestly, theirs an issue with Indians about discrimination in the country, have you seen a black indian play a major role in an Hindu movie? no!! so what makes you think they would mix with Africans? I know it would benefit Nigeria but theirs no benefit for Bollywood
TV/Movies › Re: Can Nollywood And Bollywood Ever Work Together? by omar22(m): 3:35pm On Jun 23, 2009
Before i continue, can someone define what working together means?
Cos most of the things you guys harp on are largely production issues!!

Hmmm Brash!! I doubt it but have you seen Slumdog Millonaire?
If you haven't, It walked away with eight Oscar!!
Made up totally of all Indian/Bollywood cast but mostly British/American/Hollywood crew!!

There is nothing wanted of Nigeria in terms of HR and creativity that won't be found
We may pick holes with out distribution network, quality of movies, technology and finance
But i must tell you that most of these issues can and are already being surmounted.

I don't see why Nollywood characters can't interprete a Hollywood or Bollowood Script. . . .we are our own problems
We rile and fail to appreciate ours while congratulating others (yes they deserve it). If we are able to dominate the African Movie and entertainment , we can also dominate the world scene. I don't see a lot of Nollywood movies but we just need to surmount little challenges and we are there. As for the finances, lets fight and defeat the Alaba boys. After that we can measure the level of success.

We'll surely get there.
If Akon, Wyclef and Tuface have done Collabos with why not Jim Iyke, Stella Damasus and tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie and Eddie Murphy.
Its not about whether we appreciate our own or not, the reality is if you look at the Hindu films we saw back in the 70’s compared with the ones of today, you could see the progress and the improvement, But that cannot be said about Nigerian movies! The storylines are all the same, it’s like reading a Mill and Boon novel! They all end the same way. Am not staying that we wont reach but may be the problem is us Nigerians… last someone talked about an actress rejecting a nude scene! And everyone said it’s not our culture!!! Well that’s it, theirs no short cut! to catch a monkey you need to act like a gorilla,
TV/Movies › Re: Can Nollywood And Bollywood Ever Work Together? by omar22(m): 1:27pm On Jun 23, 2009
The reason it wont work is because, financially it wont suite the Bollywood actors/actresses they have professional actors that could easily cross over to Hollywood! Nollywood actors are a joke, theirs a major difference in acting a role and becoming the character being played…honestly theirs still a gulf between the industries and with Nollywood churning out over 200 movies a month leaves no room for improvement, to me the main concern is their pay cheque.

Ok we have Hollywood stars thinking about using Nollywood to shoot their films due to low cost in resources and production probably low tax rate. But at the end of the day the director, producer and main actors would all be foreigners and 99.5% of the revenue of the film would be going abroad.
TV/Movies › Re: Can Nollywood And Bollywood Ever Work Together? by omar22(m): 1:17pm On Jun 23, 2009
For an interesting comparison of Hollywood and Bollywood financial figures, see chart. It shows tickets sold in a year and total revenue estimates. Bollywood sold 3.6 billion tickets and had total revenues (theatre tickets, DVDs, television etc.) of US$1.3 billion, whereas Hollywood films sold 2.6 billion tickets and generated total revenues (again from all formats) of US$51 billion.

Nigeria has a US$250 million movie industry, churning out some 200 videos for the home video market every month

(200 videos gaddamit a month)

It is no more news that Nollywood and Bollywood have given HollyWood a run for thier money
May be Bollywood, but Nollywood, no chance

May be in the quantity of movies produced

But quality
storyline
production

Not even close!!!
Bollywood has moved leap and bounds whereas Nigerian films are no different to the one they produced in the 80's
