This fear was in part due to our performances in the Olympics in the USA (Bonfere Joe), the under-aged competitions we have won (fielding over-aged players?) and the last Olympics in China (Sia Sia).
What fear!!!!

A game 12 years ago, knowing that they beat us in 2002 and also in the last Olympics, ,

It was really great, the world of football felt the power of Nigeria.
Unfortunately we couldn't go past the round of 16, but we made a height which no other African team has matched, becoming 5th best footballing country in the world.
A GREAT ACHIEVEMENT
What game are we talking about again

I could remember when Steve Mclaren failed to get England to Euro 2008, he was sacked , blow to his ego or confidence but he didnt create pity party, he moved on, he spent some time at the Arsenal training camp and watch how Arsene wenger trains, he asked questions, he went to italy and spend some time with Mourinho at inter, he developed himself and he applied for a job in Holland (William II) guess what he won the dutch league with a team no one would dream of doing, then he is the new manager of Wolfsburg the 2009 Bundeliga champion,

Like i said earlier on Those who know more than you are more likely to earn more than you Nigerian coaches could go out acquire knowledge, failure is something Nigerian are scared of thats why they accept the status quo!

You always struggle with logic.

So it had nothing to do with their poor start to the league campaign (one of their worst)?

And AT THE SAME TIME the fact that a lower league club knocked them out of the Cup (something that was imaginable as it had never happen before)?

Do you ever use your brain at all?
you could read wiki all day long,  despite the fact that Ranger had a poor start the club owner still backed the French man, until le Guen dropped Fergie! the clubs favourite son from the team, I was in Glasgow the day Le Guen walked away from Rangers

Amodu, Chukwu and Oningbide must attend
Why? Amodu wants a 4th term in power? what does he think this is? Onigbinde and Chuckwu

They should retire!!!! its not for dinosaur, let the young players go and update their knowledge Nigeria doesnt need cob webs

Are you really serious?

You think that was the reason he resigned?
Le Guen dropped Barry Ferguson,  and Barry Ferguson put in a transfer request, this was when the fans turned on Le Guen so he resigned ,  dont come here and feed us poo,

This was the same reason why Newcastle sacked Ruud Gullit

Le Guen in Rangers - SACKED after clashes with team captain and extremely poor results. This made him the club's shortest-serving manager, and the only one to leave the club without completing a full season in charge.
He resigned due to a dispute with Barry Ferguson he was not sacked

Why didn't largerback do the same? or Beti Volts or Bonfereejo, or many of the coaches we have employed before Amodu.

I refer u to this post. summed up my take on the whole amodu issue.

"""Truth be told, this issue about the national team's performance at the World Cup is drilling deep into my bones. Not because our team's performance was unexpected, frankly I expected them to do badly, but because of the reaction of Nigerians to the whole fiasco.

Why do we have this terrible inferiority complex?

Truth is this: Amodu was not the best man for the Eagles' job, and he did not even top the interview. However, when the decision to sack him was stupidly made after the Nations Cup, why were the three guys who trumped him in the initial selection process not called? Why did all of the new people who were called have to be white?

I am no racist, however from a financial point of view, I am more interested in the Return on Investment yardstick. If you take what happened to us in this World Cup, the return has been ZERO. I say build from the bottom up. Engaging foreign coaches is a lazy way out of reaping where we've not sown.

Let's gather the most intelligent of our ex-players - I suggest Siasia/Oliseh - and get them to mould a team that fits into the character of the nation. If we need a qualified coach, look no further than Kadiri Ikhana. The man has won the CAF Champions League back to back, has won Nigerian titles with different clubs! He is the one who in charge of the Nigerien team got them to beat our home based Eagles. A feat that I would never have dreamed of in my worst nightmares!

Look at Argentina and Germany today, their teams are not coached by geniuses like Capello or Lippi but their teams are exciting to watch and add a spontaneity to the game we haven't seen with the overblown and over-coached European teams.

Let's take a risk on our futures and in my opinion, the results wouldn't be any worse than we have now.""
Look I agree with everything you say, but how much experience does Oliseh / Siasia have? Judging from the contract the NFF gave out, is a short one…. I was extremely disappointed with how we played during qualification, and that’s when I wanted Amodu to be sacked but no they didn’t learnt from the 2002 saga, watching Nigeria having over 50 players in a training camp, Onigbinde invited non league players…… every FA in the world wants someone they could control this includes most top nations, I know what Brazil went through when Scolari was in charge, the English FA refuses to give the job to Brian Clough, the Italian couldn’t stand Capello and with Nigeria the FA do not like Siasia because he is not a poster boy like Amodu…

Le Guen that has failed with Rangers and that just failed miserably with Cameroun with useless team selection, is already being linked to Australia job.
He was FANTASTIC with LYON,

@oisehumen

Spot on

Theirs an arrogance that’s been killing Nigeria slowly they have the same thinking as the English people…. Sven Goran Ericksson got England to 3 quarter finals but people felt an Englishman would do better but he was replaced with an Englishman and they failed to qualify for Euro 2008. Now they have Capello… The same with Nigeria they think they are better than everyone…. Am sorry 7 days is long enough it’s a “crash course” its not a university degree, a lot could be learnt in 7 days, every summer they are coaching course being organised by top coaches around Europe, but our coaches are LAZY the NFF should require all the club managers to go for a course or a refresher course every 2 years…
Sports › Re: Wenger Agrees To Educate Nigerian Coaches by omar22(m): 2:31pm On Jun 25, 2010
Rubbish! 'Coach' is not our problem.
Arsense eagle or whatever he call himself knows nothing about African football. Isn't it obvious that all the foreign coaches that led african teams to south africa messed up. We Nigerians understand ourselves than any foreigner.
The same people that invited Wenger will criticize and abuse him by the time he picks 10 players from the south and may be 1 player from either west or north. Our problem is tribalism!!!
Tell me the last thing our Eagles won under a Loki (local coach)
Sports › Re: Sacking Amodu Was A Mistake - Odemwingie by omar22(m): 2:21pm On Jun 25, 2010
Amodu is not responsible for the rot in nigerian football ask the people administering it. Where are the U17 U21 boys? who is coaching them were are they camped? There whole NFF federation every single one of them took themselves to south africa even though we have a league going on here.  What is the faith of our league. where are the boys who won the U17 with Yemi Tela? where are the boys who got to the finals some months ago? what happened to them? or u want to blame amodu for that too? You have an FA that can not even tell you who the highest goal scorer in the league is. or is that Amodu's fault too?
Agree but African players are bought through the basis of exposure, what's wrong with Amodu looking for a replacement for Kanu in the local league……. In reality Amodu was only concern about the 15k – 20k him and Ogunjobi would get from each player joining the squad…. Knowing that player has to achieve a certain criteria before their work permit was renewed, I know why a certain Charlton Athletic player was called to the squad in a friendly under Amodu… a Charlton playerhuh?
Sports › Re: Did Lars Lagerback Did Well Or Poor by omar22(m): 1:56pm On Jun 25, 2010
Ronaldo is an example of a winger who has been converted to an attacker and he does well in that position.
Crisianto Ronaldo is 6”2 in height very powerful in the air, has the speed and technically gifted and is never been used as a lone striker, but as the middle striker of a front 3, this mean he is not upfront alone…. A lone striker is physically demanding.

@mikeansy

The lone strikers is an extremely hard role, Osaze would be eaten up and chewed out, cant you see how Drogba acts as a battling ram!!! the ball to you has to be precise and your first touch has to be perfect, now moving a winger to play as lone striker sounds a bit looney,

Even 1 week was enough to know that the problem we had was need to learn how to defend set pieces. We did not defend set piece and yet we did not deliver ours very well when we had some. Danny Shittu did not even know where and when not to foul players. sometimes we gave away cheap free kicks to the South Koreans that led to goals even the the intial situation would have resulted in nothing if our players were disciplined.
That sounds like Ayila to me and the free that led to a goal, thats was the goal keepers fault all day long, it's the basic of goal keeping,

We are talking about the same Afolabi who couldnt trap a bag of cement he looked scared stiff, I saw the colombia game, Shittu is the only player who is prepared to put his body on the line to block a shot, last minute tackles to deny the S Koreans

Amodu and Keshi would have done better.Lars Lagerback may be a good coach but we saw how he displayed is lack of understanding of our players………
Amodu had the job since 2008……, can you show me any sign that the players showed some understanding … e.g Passing the ball from A => B, in reference to Keshi Tell how did Mali performed at the last Nations cup? and we are talking a team that had far better players than Nigera
Sports › Re: Sacking Amodu Was A Mistake - Odemwingie by omar22(m): 11:05am On Jun 25, 2010
and for you omar22 i hope your not in any way defending lars playing keita at right wing, there is absolutely no excuse even against colombia he was totally useless in that position he never played any good game in that position, he is not good enough to clean osaze boots, and there is no way on earth that a real nigerian would put a silly mallam keita in right wing ahead of osaze absolutely no reason
I couldnt careless who Lagerback drops,  a manager lives or dies by his decision if Nigeria had qualified for the next round the same people who knocking the manager would be praising him,  but Osaze is a disgrace,   Theirs reason why the Russian manager who managed Cameroun at Italia 90, had to go and beg Thomas Nkono out of retirement despite Cameroun having Antonio Bell a very good keeper,  if your attitude sucks you wont get far,  Osaze showed his true colour after things didnt go his way, , I have seen both Alex Ferguson, Fabio Capello and Van Gaal boot out very good player from their clubs dues to poor attitude or character,  Osaze thinks he is the don of the team
Sports › Re: Did Lars Lagerback Did Well Or Poor by omar22(m): 10:55am On Jun 25, 2010
1 day is enough to know that Danny Shittu is not good enough to play in our National team let alone being a first choice Central Defender.
Well it seems like he was the best we had since Ghana 2008

If I had to choose between Shittu and the spineless yobo, Shittu all day long,
