In a newspaper interview, Awo was asked to compare Zik and Sardauna. Awo had this to say about the two of them. *"If Zik gives you an appointment for 7, ask him if it is 7pm or 7 am. If Sardauna gives you an appointment he will accompany it with the appropriate a.m or p.m. By this simple statement, Sardauna defined Igbo politics .

As for Northerners, they keep their words. And there is history to prove such. In 1959 and 1979, Zik while negotiating with Action Group in 1959, he was also negotiating with NPC at the same time. While Awolowo was at Asaba waiting for Zik, Zik in kaduna cut a deal with Ahmadu Bello that secured him the nebulous position of Governor General to replace James Robertson in 1960.

This position allow Zik to inspect and take salutes at military parades on independence day. It later became president in 1963 when Nigeria became a Republic. Awo offered Zik the position of Prime Minister while he will be the minister of finance. Zik went with the Sardauna. Two years later, the agreement between Zik NCNC and Sardauna NPC broke down and NCNC now led by Michael Okpara ran back to AWO'S Action Group to form an alliance. The ink on the alliance had not dried up before ZIK/ OKPARA tore it into shreds. There was an agreement that both the NCNC led by Okpara and the Action Group led by Mrs Dideolu Awolowo ( Awo was in prison) will boycott the 1964 general election in both the Western region and the Eastern region. While the Action Group boycotted the Election in the Western and Midwestern regions, the NCNC led by Zik/Okpara breached the agreement by allowing Election to take place in the Eastern region. Prior to the 1979 Election , Zik announced to the world that he was quitting politics for good. On the strength of that, Waziri Ibrahim, a wealthy Borno business man set up Nigeria People Party. The party was popular in the east with the presence of the likes of Jim Nwobodo and Sam Mbakwe.

Immediately Awolowo launched UPN, Zik breached his own decision of no further participation in politics combined with Mbakwe and Nwobodo, drove Waziri Ibrahim out of NPP and adopted the NPP as an Igbo party, the same way the Igbos adopted NCNC ( National council of Nigeria and the Cameroun )as an Igbo party.

In frustration, Waziri set up GNPP (Great Nigeria People Party) and won 2 states. Zik contested on the platform of NPP and won 3 states. Awo contested on the platform of UPN and won 5 states while NPN with Shagari as presidential candidate and Ekwueme as VP, won 7 states.

Then arose a constitutional crisis as there was no clear winner. UPN, GNPP, NPP AND PRP formed an alliance called UPGA. Zik went behind and reached a separate agreement that enabled Igbos to be vice president (Ekwueme) and Anakwe or Ume Ezeoke to be speaker of the house of Representatives. Awo went to court on the interpretation of 2/3 of 19. He lost and the rest is history. As a reward of the betrayal of an agreement voluntarily reached in forming the UPGA coalition, many Igbos were given appointments in Shagari governnent. As in the past, the agreement or alliance between the north( NPN) and the NPP( IGBOS) didn't last two years before igbos became the worst critic of Shagari and NPN.

And when Buhari struck in 1983, the first person to hail and claim ownership of the coup was Samuel Goomsu Ikokwu from Arochukwu and member of Shagari government. A similar thing was repeated in 2007 when Ume Ezeoke as running mate to Buhari abandoned Buhari at the election tribunal in exchange for a job for his son in Yar'adua government as a special assistant.

In 1979, Philip Umeadi an Igbo lawyer was the running mate to Awolowo in the 1979 presidential election. He abandoned Awo as Ezeoke abandoned Buhari. It was philip Umeadi that prosecuted the Ogoni 10 led by Ken Saro wiwa on behalf of Abacha federal government while the Ogoni 10 were defended by the Yorubas and ijaws led by Gani Fawehinmi and assisted by Femi Falana and Oronto Douglas an Ijaw environmental lawyer.

During the Action Group crisis of 1962 to 1966, the first person to abandon the party and Awo and became the first ever Nigerian to seek Political asylum anywhere was Sam Ikokwu. He first sought it in Ghana and later UK. Sam Ikokwu was the secretary general of the Action Group. In 2011, Goodluck Jonathan, a man with Igbo names of Ebele Azikwe sought the Presidency of Nigeria on certain conditions given to him and which he agreed to. The first condition is that he will not run for a second term having utilised the rest of Yardua presidential term. To give credence to this, Jonathan made two statements, one in Ankara Turkey and one in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia that he will serve only one term. Jonathan broke the agreement and wanted a second term and was punished.

The second agreement he reached with Tinubu when he Jonathan went to meet Tinubu in his Bourdillon residence. The agreement reached enabled the Yorubas vote for Jonathan instead of Ribadu and secured Jonathan the presidency. It was the Yoruba votes that tilted the scale for jonathan in 2011.

El' Rufai described Jonathan as a man incapable of keeping any agreement. In 2013 Tinubu and others facilitated the formation of APC and Jonathan was punished.

There is a good side to the story. It led to the cementing of a relationship between the North and the Yorubas which has kept the Igbos boiling. Asp Alamesiagha saw it coming and made a prediction on it. The Igbos believe they are the natural allies of the North and domineeringly, a friend of the SS and SW. The Igbos totally dominated JONATHAN's govt ( 2011 - 2015).

The IGBOs lack the capacity to sustain Political marriages and so both the Yorubas and the North are very wary of the Igbo overtures. This narrative is painful but it is the truth. Even as at today, Peter Obi has breached the agreement he reached with the Labor party before securing the ticket. The North had always wanted a political arrangement with the Yorubas. But based on wars fought in the past and the annexation of Yorubaland to the North from near Ogbomosho to Jebba( Bode Saadu)and Lokoja( Katunga)by the British made such arrangement impossible.

Both Lokoja in Kogi and Jebba in Kwara are Yoruba towns. Bringing the political establishments of the North and the West together by Tinubu was the marvel of the century. In fairness, it was the North that took the first step when the Kaduna mafia led by the late Shehu Yardua took the first step in 1983 by nominating a running mate for Awo. His name was Mohammed KURA from Bauchi. The second step the North took was ensuring Obasanjo became the presidential candidate of the PDP in 1999 at the PDP Jos convention against Ekwueme and also rebuffed Atiku entreaties in 2003. The Yorubas rewarded Yardua in 1991 by giving their votes in one of IBB transition programs instead of giving it to Jakande. Obasanjo, Yoruba, PRESIDENT of Nigeria ensured that Sunday Awoniyi , Yoruba from Kogi never became the chairman of PDP. Like Coker who turned down the position of the Secretary general of the NCNC because Herbert Macaulay was Yoruba and it is unfair for Yorubas to hold the two topmost positions, Obasanjo did same to Awoniyi on the claim that a Yoruba cannot be the president another Yoruba the chair of the PDP.

The Yoruba and the Northern Political establishments have been very consistent both in opposition to each other and now as friends. Igbo Political establishment if there is any, is not built to respect any Political agreement. Though painful it is a political truth. And this inconsistency that drives Igbo politics has turned the Igbo politics into a bane.

Before I proceed further, let me briefly dwell on the civil war where IGBO claimed that Awo reached an agreement to secede the West out of Nigeria. There was nothing like that. At the meeting in Enugu (Awo was accompanied to the meeting by Professor Sam Aluko and Demas Akpore the first and only civilian governor of the Midwest) to persuade Ojukwu not to secede, Ojukwu became rude and Awo had to remind him that he is a contemporary of his father. Awo and Louis Ojukwu were both born in 1909. Odumegwu and Segun Awolowo were born the same year. Ojukwu was bent on secession and even boasted that *"No power in black Africa can defeat Biafra".* Since Ojukwu was bent on seceding and could not be persuaded otherwise, the only statement Awo made was *"If by commission or omission the East is allowed to go, the West will follow".* It was never a statement of support but rather a warning to Gowon governnent not to allow the East to secede.

Madiebo the Biafra chief of Army staff in his book: *Nigeria-biafra civil war* He did not make mention of any support by Awo and by extension the Yorubas to Igbo secession cause, even though he made copious reference to the meeting between Ojukwu and Awo.

The statement of Buhari publicly referring to Tinubu as his friend is deep and goes far back. It is a banker's cheque. THE NORTH AND THE YORUBAS ALWAYS KEEP AGREEMENT.

Believe there is a rift at your own peril, Makinde Controls PDP in Oyo state, it is just a diversionary tactics to make it look like the Leaders are indeed at war with Makinde. Don't expect them to clap for him for his systematic proclamation of Asiwaju. They still have funds to collect at Wadata.

The truth is the Obidient movement started late same as the mass registration of voters. A lot of people that registered at the late rush hour wont even pick it up at Inec nor even go out to vote.

Let me tell you it is only Lagos that have that large presence of non indigenes in South West.

I can't confidently say Tinubu will win but the truth is he won't loose non of the SWestern States as Obidents believe.
