I got similar call yesterday from a crook who addressed himself as an engr, he used 08053476864 to make the scam call. I played along and wanted to find out who he is and how he got my name and number but he continued to delude himself with talks of how we met somewhere a long time ago, when it dawned on him that i am equally 'street smart' he quickly cut off the line.

Checks on truecalled revealed his name as Danjuma Audu.

The act setting up FRSC (Federal road safety commission) was very explicit on their expectations which among other mandates were the prevention or minimizing of accidents on the highway; clearing obstructions on any part of the highways; educating drivers, motorists and other members of the public generally on the proper use of the highways; the standardization of highway traffic codes; giving prompt attention and care to victims of accidents etc.

But a cursory look at some of their most recent obsessions appears to have betrayed these given statutory duties, in its stead, profit-oriented undertakings seems to have become their pastime.

In 2011, FRSC in conjunction with the joint tax board commenced issuance of new number plates which they claimed was geared towards bringing order and sanity in motor vehicle administration scheme. The corps marshal as at that time, chief Osita Chidoka made us believe that the number plates will further enhance security in the country as the plates are portable and tied to individual motorists who are expected to use them for life, but alas this was not the reality on ground as apart from the juxtapositioning of the plate number prefix and suffix, there were no observable improvements in terms of security as instances where registered vehicles were sold with the new number plates abound. And again, one wonders why there was no order and sanity in the now discarded administration of vehicle registration and number plate licensing when the same group of people (FRSC officials) have been paid to render service in an efficient and effective manner.

Need we say that billions of money were raked in from this apparent profitable venture with all the official and ‘unofficial’ parties smiling to the bank at the detriment of hapless motorists. Thanks to Emmanuel Ofoegbu who put up a spirited legal challenge that saw the relaxation of threats to impound vehicles with the old number plates from October 1 2013.

As if to assert his office and prove that what my predecessor can do, I can do better, FRSC under the current helmsman, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi has thrown up another controversial issue; ‘Speed Limiters’ to, according to him, assist in reducing over speeding and the attendant carnage on our roads. Much as I agree that over speeding plays a major role in most of the accidents on our roads, it leaves much to be desired that FRSC seeks to be the sole provider and regulator of the cost of procurement and fixing of the device.

Now, one may wonder if these speed limiters will also make up for other factors which predispose motorists to accidents on our road, such factors like bad roads with huge craters, poorly constructed roads with high angles of elevation and depression on a supposedly smooth road, drunkenness, unauthorized road blocks at dangerous spots by security agents etc.

If the zeal and passion currently at play in canvassing the merits of the proposed speed limiters are applied in the pursuit of the statutory mandates of the Commission, methinks that the rate of road accidents and the attendant human casualties would have been reduced to the barest minimum.

FRSC should apply itself to the mandates and expectations of their enabling act and desist from embarking on projects that portray them more as revenue generation agencies, it is only by doing this that their men & officers will get more engaged on accident prevention campaigns and play less to the gallery.

For the average graduate, the corporate world is the ultimate dream, what with all the flashy cars, designer suits and blazers laced with perfumes & cologne from the stables of renowned labels, worn & paraded by corporate managers.
The fascination is so strong that immediately after graduation, preparatory for the national youth service scheme, the assistance of uncles, aunties, pastors, imams and whoever has relevant links are solicited to facilitate deployment to corporate offices so as to enhance ones chances of getting retained at the end of the service year.
Unknown to these prospective employees, a lot happens behind the glitz and glamor of these corporate offices that will make one shudder in disbelief that these seeming eldorado is capable of generating such intense intrigues, scheming, blackmail, manipulations & other Machiavellian unscrupulousness as to render what happens in the political arena a child’s play.
As expected in every human organization, there must be leadership to provide strategic direction and focus to enable the realization of corporate aims and objectives. But most times, the processes leading to the emergence of these leaders leaves much to be desired; they are structured in such a way as to make beneficiaries of coveted positions always looking behind their shoulders and seeing everyone as threats.
And so to get into the top management echelon, managers position themselves to enhance their chances of occupying strategic positions. Some might do this through hard work and unparaled dedication to duties while others do so by mere scheming and playing to the gallery. To these later group, everything fair & foul must be thrown into the fray to clinch the desired position. And so one could find that these ‘mafia’ managers often deploys deceptive and ruthless measures in their bid by doing the following;
Recruitment of ‘foot soldiers’
Deliberate efforts are made to recruit or influence the employment of ‘trusted’ relations or people from the same ethnic origin/tribe. The idea is to position them to serve as support base in the execution of hidden personal agenda to get to the top.

Divide and rule tactics
This is the trade mark of these managers, unnecessary dichotomy and frictions are silently created to foster the mentality of ‘them vs us’ in the work environment. The idea here is to generate mutual distrust among staff and engender a corporate culture of secrecy and docility among staff members. For those in the camp of the mafia managers, mouthwatering opportunities by way of promotion and training will be enjoyed while those seen as ‘outsiders’ are treated with disdain.

Playing to the gallery
In a bid to cosmetically outshine others, especially during operational/strategic meetings, the mafia manager always want to be the ‘bride in every wedding and the corpse in every funeral’…… they crave attention and publicity even when points being marshalled during these meetings falls below the average expected. For them, they must be heard and all kinds of drama will be put up to score cheap political points.

Planting of ‘moles’
To underscore their sense of insecurity, moles, from trusted allies will be planted in the imaginary enemy camp to gather and relay ‘sensitive’ information to them. They are always interfering in other department’s work schedules, they want to know every bit of what happens per second in all departments. The idea is to generate enough dossier/arsenal which they aim to unleash against perceived enemies on the day of reckoning.

Back biting/blackmailing
To make others look bad and unacceptable, especially those they considered as imminent threats to whatever positions sought for, campaigns of calumny and deliberate misrepresentations are usually launched and made to get to decision makers. During these periods, falsehoods and distortion of facts becomes their pastime. In the process, bright career prospects of hardworking staff are destroyed, disarticulated and frustrated.

At the end, the shareholders are the ultimate losers as trusts are eroded, hard work, dedication, value creation and addition are sacrificed on the altar of office politics. Staff members are made to go with the belief and impression that what matters in the scheme of things is the camp you belonged to and not necessarily your skills and the latent values you have that would have lifted the company.

To be sure, the prevalence on this misnomer in every corporate office is not a matter for contention, as they do exist, albeit in various degrees and intensity. While the ones with less degree appear progressive & more focused, the ones with higher degree, without any shred of doubt tends to be stagnant as valuable times are wasted abandoning an ‘ozo’ title (read: strategizing & playing in the big league) for a sacrifice at the ‘agwu’ shrine (read: indulging in mere gossips, scheming & plotting for the downfall of imaginary enemies)

I really need your advice on what to do about this.

I have opened a savings account with Resort savings and loans plc following a presentation they made in my office wherein assurances were given to the effect that account holders can withdraw funds from their account when the need arises. It's over 2 months now that i have gone practically through hell trying to get some funds from my account to sort out an urgent issue to no avail.

There has not been any official communication as to what is happening in the place and efforts made to get across to the management have been abortive as the receptionist and other staff members kept telling me & other concerned clients that none of their mgt staff is on seat.

What do i do? I need honest practical advice pls.

How does this affect the price of beans in the market

Really very unfortunate!

My experience in these past few weeks have been everything but palatable with the ongoing tinted glass revalidation exercise. Not only does one need to get up early to be there before 6.30am to be among the chosen few (50 persons) per day that are usually allowed to go in for the biometric capturing but you still need to pray very hard that the only computer and personnel designated to do this job for the over 5 million motorists in need of this revalidation does not break down mid way or get overwhelmed by sheer complaints of inadequate measures put in place by relevant police authorities.

I have just returned from the only centralized venue (Lagos Police command HQ @ Ikeja) for this exercise and this is the 4th time we are being turned back, with the flimsy reasons bordering on capacity and structures in place. I do not understand how an important exercise which already has tomorrow as deadline could be treated with such a levity by the Police high command. It has therefore become imperative, given this obvious lapses, that the deadline be extended to allow for more resources, structures and personnel to be deployed to atleast erase the narrative that Nigerians derive pleasure from stressing themselves unnecessarily.

Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia state is in paralysis due to bad unmotorable roads, poor waste disposal system etc. Those issues need more urgent attention than all these playing to the gallery.

They should be made to bear the full brunt of disobeying lawful directives of legally constituted authority simple..... Law is no respecter of persons/groups.

It's good to stand up to what we believe in.... that is the hallmark of what makes u a principled person.
