Mynd44: You know you could have just ignored and not bother to write this right?
I mean all that story just to prove that "Probing and investigating are the same"?
You should know when to look, hiss and walk away while smiling at the ignorance of others and not join in the fúck fess. Like I said in the OP, there are some genuinely ignorant fellas, old and young, that visit this board for info and enlightenment. They tend to ingest and digest just about anything they read without recourse to verification- some because they are too lazy, others because they don't have the financial strength (data) to dig any further. What then happens to such category of people It helps to put things here in an accurate perspective if you ask me. |
Politics › "Before They Tarnish Reverend Father Matthew Hassan Kukah"- A Rejoinder. by omenka(op): 2:44pm On Aug 16, 2015*. Modified: 3:16am On Aug 17, 2015 |
Good afternoon. Much as I don't fancy responding to bare-faced lies and overt distortion of facts, it has become absolutely necessary to every once in a while set records straight for posterity because it is said that evil thrives only when good men remain silent. First off, Reverend Kukah said what he said in plain english and didn't need no one to translate or interpret his message, least of all, the op of the thread being referenced here. It is such a pity some people are totally given to spreading unadulterated falsehood regardless of its effect, just as long as like minds like themselves endorse such inordinate pursuits. First, the op went: 1. Investigation Should Be Done First
What Kukah was saying is that there should be investigation first! Investigation simply means approaching a matter with an open heart with the sole aim of establishing whether or not something has gone amiss. This is what is expected in a democracy And then went on to say: 2. Probe becomes necessary after investigations
You only probe after investigation has given a lead that an offense was committed. Probe is to unravel more facts that may be helpful during prosecution. These have gotta be the worst attempt at twisting established principles and lexicon I'd ever seen my entire life- all borne out of an undue penchant for opposing anything and everything not of one's political leanings. First, regarding the first quote, at no point did the government say or give the impression it wasn't approaching the probes with "an open mind" as the op wants his readers to believe. It is a cheap blackmail using such innuendos in reference to the government's policy of bringing treasury looters to book. Unfortunately, there are lots of gullible and genuinely ignorant readers out there who would likely be sold to the op's antics. That being said, the poster dove even further into the abyss by making the statement in "quote 2". I couldn't just believe what I was reading! What in God's gracious name is meant by " investigating before probing??Dear readers, here are the definitions of both words (investigate & probe) as stated by the English dictionary as they relate to the subject matter: Investigate 1. Carry out a systematic or formal inquiry to discover and examine the facts of (an incident, allegation, etc.) so as to establish the truth.
2. To try to find out the facts about (something, such as a crime or an accident) in order to learn how it happened, who did it, etc.
3. To try to get information about someone who may have done something illegal*.
Probe
1. An exploratory action or expedition, especially one designed to investigate and obtain information on a remote or unknown region.
2. . An investigation into unfamiliar matters or questionable activities* ; a penetrating inquiry. The three words investigate, probe, and inquiry are all synonymous and can be used interchangeably in this regard. Now, note the bolded and the "asterisked" in these definitions and tell me what the difference is. I'm pretty much sure the op of that thread knows this but deliberately made those remarks and endorsed Kukah's due to his fancy for the absurd. That said, it is really unfortunate he tried to justify Kukah's statement as captured in the first quote in his original post, stating that probes have no place in a democracy such as ours. For the benefit of the ignorant, our Bicameral system of democracy is modeled after America's and I can't think of a democracy within which more "probes" have been conducted than America's: so I really have no idea where Kukah and the op are coming from. Next, the op stated: He was simply saying that rather than talking of probe by mere speculation he should do number 1 (above). It is a known fact that NOTHING will be established from any ACTION where the Investigator's sole aim is to see an accused guilty and not really to solve a problem. First, the government isn't working on "mere speculation". The op and the rest of us know less than a billionth of what is contained in the handover notes of the immediate past government, and there is no gainsaying they form the bulk of the reasons behind the ongoing probes. Even the ex-president himself admitted he was oblivious of the extent of sleaze that existed under his watch. Contracts running into billions were awarded, some contractors were paid, in some cases fully, yet projects weren't executed. Just recently, news surfaced about a contractor in who rushed back to site out of fear of being captured in Buhari's anticorruption dragnet- dailyindependentnig.com/2015/08/buhari-phobia-n2-5b-adada-dam-contractor-rushes-back-site/ - and it is our belief a lot other such cases that eluded the eyes of the press exist. The op was being rather tactless saying (agreeing) the probes are a distraction. First, Nigerians from all walks of life who long for a better country are on the same page with the government on this, especially judging from their reactions to Kukah's statements. That aside, the government's purse is thinning due to the crash in the global price of crude and she needs all the monies illegally acquired she can mop up from the past officials to finance developmental projects, as she seeks ways to reduce recurrent expenditure. Furthermore, isn't it mischievous of the op to say the probes are a distraction when the same person holds the opinion they should be extended to cover regimes that precede Jonathan's? When that is done, does it mean they would no longer be "distractions" On the "number 1" thingy, that has already been dealt with- there is no difference between a probe and an investigation. Lastly, to crown his mischief, the op went: Firstly, you should investigate to ascertain whether or not something has gone amiss. Then you subject the indictees to probe (thorough investigation). This is just absolutely laughable! Here's the op saying Buhari should "investigate" them first, then "thoroughly investigate" them afterwards!! I really am at a loss of words to qualify this tomfoolery. Whatever it is, we know the antecedents of the poster and don't expect less from him- today he adorn's kukah with a robe of sainthood, we all know what he would say of the reverend should he make remarks critical of Jonathan's admin tomorrow, but it is incumbent on those with enlightened and discerning minds to speak up when logic and reason appear to be turned on their heads with its devastating consequences. The least we can do is what we do here when we find the time to- defuse and disarm PDP propaganda. Thank you. Cc: Seun, Lalasticlala. |

He said, Shell understood the issues, which President Buhari may yet to find out. So, Shell reacted to a well-informed position taken by Amnesty International, saying “the President’s initiative would fail and the Ogoni people would continue to suffer, as long as Shell fails to change its method of oil spill clean-up.”
Diigbo said the acknowledgment by Shell of potential implementation failure, meant joint review was unavoidable to ensure comprehensive treatment of UNEP recommendations in Ogoni land, which, he pointed out, President Buhari’s unilateral re-writing of the Report, jeopardizes.
[/b]Now the big question is why will Buhari not implement the full UNEP report in Ogoniland??

The Ogoni people on Thursday, August 13, 2015 began the Ogoni Springtime – an unlimited season of resentment to end injustice against the Ogoni people in Nigeria.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 approved several actions to fast-track the long delayed implementation of the United Nations Environmental Programme Report on the environmental restoration of Ogoniland.
He had said the actions approved were based on recommendations to him by the Executive Director of UNEP, the UNEP Special Representative for Ogoniland, permanent secretaries of the Federal Ministries of Environment and Petroleum Resources, and others, include the amendment of the official gazette establishing the Hydrocarbon.
Now, President of Ogoni Central Indigenous Authority, OCIA, Dr. Goodluck Diigbo wants the Buhari administration to show proof by publishing the recommendations and names of the signatories.
Diigbo said “it is dangerous to mask domestic abuse of powers, with emblems of foreign governments, authorities and institutions.”
“I have found out that there were no new recommendations, other than the Ogoni UNEP Report. I challenge President Buhari to publish the new recommendations so that we can see the content and names of the signatories, said Diigbo.
He said this in a statement to mark the “Ogoni Springtime launching, which would involve a series of actions to end the threat against extinction of the Ogoni people in southern Nigeria.
He further revealed: “I sourced for information below and above the UNEP Executive Director. My sources said they were not aware of the involvement of the UNEP Executive Director in a behind the scene recommendations, meant to truncate the official UNEP Mission Report.”
Continuing he said: “Already some form of admission [confession] has been made by certain individuals as off-record for “certain journalists” in Port Harcourt. They claimed that they lobbied the Buhari regime and even drafted the press release that turned into Fast-track actions for the implementation of the Ogoni UNEP Report. According to them, the idea was to counter a suspicion that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State was planning a unilateral implementation to “outsmart Buhari” through integration of some aspects of the UNEP Report into Rivers State administration reconstruction agenda.”
On Sunday, August 9, 2015, he had addressed OCIA Emergency General Leadership Session at Birabi Memorial Grammar School, BMGS. “I made it clear that I had no such understanding with Wike. However, I said, if he had contemplated doing so, it would not have discarded the UNEP report, or shifted responsibility from polluters,” he said.
The Ogoni Springtime has been planned to enforce the Ogoni demand for a joint stakeholders’ review of the Ogoniland UNEP Report, as precondition for its implementation.
In an interview, he referenced a report by Channels Television, updated August 11, 2015, in which “Shell emphasized that in line with the UNEP position, treating the problem of environmental pollution in Ogoni land merely as a technical clean-up exercise is what would result in failure.”
Diigbo said the acknowledgment by Shell of potential implementation failure, meant joint review was unavoidable to ensure comprehensive treatment of UNEP recommendations on Ogoni land, which, he pointed out, President Buhari’s unilateral re-writing of the Report, jeopardizes.
“In a sense, Amnesty International, like others, can easily see through the manipulative tactics; the exploitation of ignorance that undermines justice to achieve ethnic, partisan, and corporate gains,” Diigbo said.
He remarked that, “even though Shell, seems bent upon playing on words; alongside other stakeholders, Shell would want to subscribe to “clarity rules” as an underlying due process requirements, to avoid potential insecurity, conflicts and bloodshed, in course of implementation.”
“Ogoni has sacrificed so much for Nigeria. The continual injustice, dirty ethnic and partisan politics on Ogoni affairs will set the sun on Nigeria,” Diigbo
Signed by: Hon Dum Ade John Budam For Dr. Goodluck Diigbo President, Ogoni Central Indigenous Authority
OGONI SPRINGTIME BEGINS IN NIGERIA The Ogoni Springtime, an indefinite season of resentment and protests to end injustice against the Ogoni people in southern Nigeria. It began today, August 13, 2015 in Bori, the cultural and political capital of the Ogoni people. The resentment and protests will spread throughout the Ogoni Nation, involving civil disobedience and waves of popular actions to occupy and reclaim control over Ogoniland.
The Ogoni Springtime has been provoked by the dirty ethnic and partisan handling of the UNEP Ogoni Report by President Buhari administration. Today’s nonviolent march was led by eight provincial governors, leaders of Ogoni National Legislative Assembly, officers of the Ogoni Customary Court System, and elected leaders of district and village councils. Participants joined from the provinces of Bori, Babbe, Ban Ogoni, Eleme, Gokana, Ken Khana, Nyokhana, and Tai. The Ogoni organized system at all levels will be free to embark on protests from time to time with focus on ending injustice against the people.
In a statement to put Nigeria on Notice, President of the Ogoni Central Indigenous Authority, OCIA, Dr. Goodluck Diigbo has called on President Buhari to reverse his recent unilateral orders meant to override the Ogoniland Environmental Assessment Study that was issued by the United Nations Environmental Programme on August 11, 2011. In order to prevent an aggravation of the situation, he called for immediate dialogue. However, Diigbo said all protests will remain nonviolent, unless the Ogoni people are compelled to act in self-defence within the framework of international law. [/s] This has gotta be the most useless wailer I've ever seen. Please someone should tell the pleb it doesn't matter whether it is to neutralize someone or not- all that matters is that their land would be cleaned up after several years of neglect of the recommendation. Ogoni people themselves are ecstatic about the prospect of implementing the UNEP report and that is all that matters. Whoever doesn't wanna live in a clean environment can go dwell in a pigery in Haiti. |

Surely we need an opposition in our polity but PDP is definitely not the kind of opposition we need- one whose utterances are purely centered on ethnicity and religion. They boasted they are gonna trample on the long suffering masses for 60years, as they fed fat on state resources, but here they are today struggling for survival barely two months after being kicked out. They predicted APC isn't gonna see a day after its formation- that it is an association of strange bed fellows- but here we are waxing stronger by the day as they fight for dear life. May we never witness the kind of governance we witnessed under that evil behemoth ever again. #Welcome APGA/KOWA. |
