Politics › PDP Crises: Bayelsa Governor Appointed As Head Of Reconciliation Committee by omenka(op): 1:23pm On Jul 23, 2013
The committee will reconcile members of the ailing
party.

Nigeria’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has
said it is willing to resolve the various crises
bedevilling it, including the one that has pitched
some governors elected on the party’s platform
against the party and the presidency. To resolve the
crisis, the party has picked a loyalist of President
Goodluck Jonathan and governor of the president’s
home state of Bayelsa, Seriake Dickson, to head a
committee.

The National Working Committee, NWC, of the PDP
on Monday set up a national reconciliation committee headed by Mr. Dickson to, according to the party, harmonise all interests and achieve genuine reconciliation across board.

A statement from PDP’s spokesperson, Tony Okeke,
said the setting up of the committee is to ensure
comprehensive reconciliation among members and
interests in the party. The Deputy Chairman of the Committee is Asheik Jarma, while other members include I. A. Obuzor, Salisu Suleiman, Walid Jibrin, Hope Uzodinma, Bello Matawalle and Niyi Fadimula.
Others are Jerome Eke, Chris Marizu, Tijjani Kiyawa,
Christy Silas, Jangwe Yusuf and Ngozi Olejeme,
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Onyema Ugochukwu, Yakubu
Shehu, Mohammed Kuchazi, Adedeji Olarenwaju,
Dapo Sarumi, Arthur Eze, and Emma Iwuagwu.
A former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu,
was also appointed as member; alongside Umar
Gada, Dosun Fatokun, Harold Eze, Fati Sabo, Wakili
Mohammed and Shitu Mohammed.
Umar Damagun was named as the secretary of the
committee.

The statement added that the committee would be
inaugurated by the National Chairman of the PDP,
Bamanga Tukur, at the National Secretariat of the
party on August 25 by 12 noon.
The ruling party is bedevilled by crisis in several
states including Mr. Tukur’s Adamawa. There have
also been reports that some state governors, elected on the party’s platform, are set to dump the party.

Four Northern governors elected on the party’s
platform had a secret meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday, few hours after Mr. Jonathan met with the former president in Abeokuta. Though details of both meetings were not stated by the participants, there have been reports that the governors may have decided to ditch the PDP to form their own party.
Some of the governors involved are those opposed to Mr. Jonathan’s re-election with one, Sule Lamido of Jigawa, believed to be Mr. Obasanjo’s anointed candidate for the 2015 presidency.

The former president has never hidden his
preference for Mr. Lamido. He boycotted the current president’s widely publicised mid-term report
presentation on May 29 to attend a function
organised by Mr. Lamido in Jigawa.

It is not clear if the disgruntled governors’ would
accept the mediation of Mr. Dickson and his team.
Mr. Dickson, a known loyalist of Mr. Jonathan,
supported Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau as
Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum while the
disgruntled governors all supported Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers. Mr. Amaechi has since been suspended by the PDP and is having a running battle with the presidency and the ruling party.

Bliss4Lyfe: Such a shame. Is their any Yoruba with maturity? All child like adult. shame. huh
What's shameful about insisting 5<27, and 16<19? What is shameful about insisting a city shouldn't be shut down just because a "first lady" is visitinghuh

These might seem but little infringements on fairness, justice and logic. The risk lies in not speaking up against them just like the prof is doing.

Silence in the face of evil is like a tacit nod of approval.

If we don't stand up today against these, as little as they seem, we embolden our oppresors who ought to be out liberators, to trample upon us even more!

Who knows, tomorow, they might insist I'm a woman and with the anti gay law in place, insist I get married to a man; because we agreed "5 is greater than 27"!!!

Think Nigerians, think!

Most of the reasons for the coup still exist today and have taken a more fearful dimension, especially corruption.

Adejoro74: Newt Gingrich was Speaker of the US House during Clinton's regime, and he contested to be president recently.
John McCain has been in the US senate since eon, and still is.

Some US Senators have been there for 30+ years. Hey!!! John Kerry after more than 27 years in the Senate just became the US Secretary of State (minister of foreign affairs).

In Euro, at least mainland Europe that I am very, very familiar with, politicians are recycles like bottled water container

I agree that Nigerian leaders are recycled, but it is not a Nigerian-only thing.

The recycling seems worst in the North of Nigeria as almost all governors and senators and house of rep members from the south, at least SE, were unknown ten years ago.

Even the 80 years old Ebonyi State Gov was unknown before he became a governor.

Young or old, no single Nigerian leader in recent times has been able to impress in a big way. So age has nothing to do with it.
Thank you my brother!!! Leadership is about Ideology, character and wisdom. It has nothing to do with age. But if age is a factor, it ought to be a possitive one with its attendant wisdom and experience.

We've had some youthful leaders in the past and they turned out to be poster children of failure and corruption! Salisu Buhari, Dimeji Bankole, Hembe, Farouk Lawan, Fani Kayode, and many more.

A wholistic attitudinal change towards governance and even followership is what we need to get to where we desire to be.

When she learns to behave right, and conduct herself in a manner beffiting for a first lady, she'd be accorded due respect and proper titles. But for now....

Should there be war, Biafra would be child's play. We would be looking at somthing the scale of Rwanda!!

I pray it never gets to that point! I quiver at the sight of gory pics comming out of Syria. Wouldn't want my country to be cought up in such a situation no matter the reason.

We should do everything possible to avert war, especially that with a religious colouration.
