Young man, this is not about how you feel things should be done but about what the law says.

Doctor patient confidentiality isn't voided by marriage. That is why a doctor would ask the patients consent for the spouse to be there during consultation. HIV does not fall into the same disease category under the law as HIV. Ebola, Lassa Fever, Dengue Fever, H5N1 virus, etc is are a higher class of illness because of the way it spreads and the potential for it to become an epidemic if not checked. And the doctor is required by law to inform the authorities not another person per se.

A doctor does not have the right to disclose a patients medical case to the spouse without proper consent. The spouse can agree to a joint medical checkup with the other partner and disclose their finding to each other with consent. This doctor is in big trouble should the patient sue.

Better go ask a doctor about this and learn some manners whilst at it.

I speak from a professional standpoint, as a doctor. I have no business in people's personal lives. And should I choose to have a business with them, I get sued and lose chunks of money and possible means of livelihood for it. I do not become emotional, nor should I.

I have had similar experience. The wife hid her HIV positive status from the husband till her death, and we as doctors learnt that at the point of her death. She still insisted no one should tell him. She died few hours after.

As a doctor, you should always ask an HIV positive person the people she has confided in regarding her status, and whom she would want you to disclose to. Whenever possible, this should be in writing.

No doctor has a right or duty to divulge any patient's information to another person, no matter how "close", even when the patient is dead. Unless in a case where non-disclosure of such information poses danger to the community...eg Ebola, lassa fever, etc.

You said the symptoms - painful burns/sensations in the vagina- appear immediately after sex? It may be related to the act of sex rather than to an infection, as there is no infection whose symptoms appear immediately after sex.

It may be bruises, due to lack of adequate lubrication before sex or later on after penetration, or excessively forceful thrusting, or any combination of the above.

The penile skin provides more friction than the latex condom, hence why it is more felt following unprotected sex.

normal cycles last between 21days to 35 days. Those that have cycles of 31 or above will have less than 12 cycles per year. Similarly, those with cycles less than 30 days could have more than 12 cycles a year. It's all normal.

Cervical adhesions were broken during uterine sounding.
A moderate capacity uterus was opacified following retrograde injection of 24mls urografin.
Both fallopian tubes were opacified & appear normal with evidence of free intra-peritoneal spillage of contrast DAT partially cleared on a delayed film.
CONCLUSION:Bilateral patent fallopian tube with cervical adhesions & a fundal filling defect dat suggests BICORNUATE UTERUS.
Pls any one ve idea about wat bicornuate uterus means.will there be issues with implantation?pls help me with answers.thanks in advance

It is a congenital (from birth) abnormality whereby the uterus was not well formed, having 2 "horns" instead of one.

It does not affect implantation or fertility but may pose problems such as recurrent miscarriages, preterm labour (labour before 9 months), and malpresentations (babies not positioned well), among others.

When you get pregnant, make sure you register at a Tertiary hospital as early as possible, and let the hospital know of this.

You may go back to the clinic if your symptoms have not abated. You must be able to see a doctor.

Meanwhile, your upper abdominal symptoms are not likely to be related directly to your ttc

What stage are you in your ttc? Have you done any diagnostic workups? How are they? Your dh nko? It's easier to advise when there are specific problems to tackle.

Ok. Well, enlarged liver is not a clinical diagnosis. Doctors treat you as a whole, not in pieces.

Possible causes of your symptoms include, peptic ulcer disease, hepatitis, gastritis, cholycystitis, even pancreatitis.

You are not advised to commence any medications until you obtain a clinical diagnosis from your doctor.

How long has this been on? Are you sexually active? Do you have any discomfort or pain while urinating?

You should see a doctor. The doctor will ask you these questions and more, examine you, and use the white stuff to do test and prescribe appropriate drugs.

And the normal colour of urine is yellowish (amber), so there is no problem with that, unless you meant to say the urine is cloudy.

Were you meant to see it on 26th March or 26th April?

If the former is the case, please do a pregnancy test if you have been sexually active and get back to me.

If the latter is the case, then the advice is to remain calm, and see it as a one-off experience. If it remains markedly irregular for another 2 cycles, it should then require investigations especially if you are ttc.

How do you mean an "enlarged liver"? What symptoms do you have?

No. Candidiasis is not linked to miscarriages.

Bacterial vaginosis (BV), which resembles candiadiasis in symptoms, is what is linked to miscarriages.

Your test result does not support the diagnosis of BV.

Unfortunately, drugs used in curing typhoid fever are prescription medicines. It is unethical for a doctor to prescribe such drugs for a patient whom the doctor has not seen, and abuse of antibiotics makes them less effective or ineffective in curing infections.

First, as a male, it is unlikely your doctor asked you to see a gynaecologist.

Second, I cannot recall any test called ECT in gynaecology. ECT is most commonly used in psychiatry, where it means Electro-convulsive Therapy.

I advise that you check with your doctor to comfirm that you understood exactly what he recommended.

folic acid is highly recommended before and during pregnancy. It helps to prevent brain and spinal malformations (Neural Tube Defects) in the developing foetus. The chance of this occuring if folic acid is not taken is very very small, but when it does occur, it is devastating for baby and family.

Try taking the folic acid WITH food to minimise the stomach upset.

Ask your doctor about enteric-coated folic acid. These are formulated to eliminate stomach upset.

Hello doc, I have a family member who has been married for a year and six months now with no pregnancy. She and her husband decided to go for medical checkup this past December to find out what was wrong. After all tests have been done, she was certified ok but her husband was diagnosed of low sperm count and given drugs to treat it. In February this year, they went to another hospital and the doctor after going through the tests they did in the other hospital, complained that some of the tests carried out by the first place they went to was unnecessary. He conducted some tests on them and said they are ok. Fast forward to 3 weeks ago, she said she is not going to any other hospital that she is tired of all the tests. Her period is regular, the thing is nobody knows what the issue is. She is unhappy. My question is what could be wrong and since tests have been conducted and both of them certified ok, is there any other thing they need to do that is not been done?. Sorry for the long post. In about 33% percent of couples having delays in conception, no identifiable cause is found. Your friend may belong with this group. If tests for both man and wife showed no problems for the parameters normally tested, then they should relax, and pray, and avoid stress.

However, before it can be said that everything has been done, they must have seen a specialist. In this case, a gynaecologist esp one who sub-specialised in fertility/infertility.

In a regular 26-day cycle, the ovulation day would be on the 12th day of the cycle.

For your LMP of 6th April, the 12th day of this cycle would be 17th April (the 1st day of menses is Day 1).

Since the sperm can survive 5 days after coiitus and the egg can survive 24 hours after ovulation, it means coituus as early as 5 days before ovulation day and as late as a day after ovulation may result in pregnancy.

Therefore, for this cycle, coiitus from 13th through 18th April could result in conception. Alternate day coituss is advised, instead of everyday.

As soon as your period returns (sometimes even before) you can get pregnant again.

To calculate your fertile period, one would need to know how long your cycle lasts and if you have regular cycle.

Based on your 30-day cycle and the history you gave, you should have ovulated by the 10th to 11th of March. The sex on the 15th ordinarily should not have made you pregnant, considering that the egg dies about 24hours after ovulation.

None of the drugs you took have any direct effect on the menstrual cycle esp for the duration you took them. I hope you did not take emergency contraception?

It is unlikely that you are pregnant, but not impossible. Do a proper serum pregnancy test plus an ultrasound scan to confirm the presence or absence of pregnancy, first of all.

From experience, the psychological stress occasioned by the fear of pregnancy was apparently responsible for the disruption of menstruation in many ladies.

Mind you also that you may be ovulating without menstruation and the slippery, wet feeling you have are (? Concidentally) common signs of ovulation, of which -other things being equal- you should have had around this time.

hi doc pls help, my hubby did sfa and was told heavy coliform present in the culture. he took ciproflox which he had highest sensitivity to for more than 2weeks and after 1month the repeat of the test says heavy coliform present. should we disregard d test or what. we have no symptoms cos after d initial result, we both treated ourselves for baterial infections. pls help

The most likely explanation is that this is a spurious result, from an external contaminant peculiar to the lab. You should disregard it. As a check however, you may repeat the sf m\c\s at another facility. If you get any result different from the first, pls disregard all.

There are normal discharges too, and not every itching is an infection.

A lot of them have no infection. Infection appears to be "trending" becos of the labs and quacks who attribute anything to infections.

Always visit a proper hospital if you have any need to, not a lab, not a pharmacy.

Most infections will give you symptoms. But many women are "aymptomatic carriers" of many infections esp Chlamydia. This means that they will not show any symptoms whatsoever, but will habour the infection-causing agents, and can pass them on.

I hope you are not asking fron the common experience of the lab saying you have an infection when you have no symptoms?

Great leaders have always emerged since 1999, irrespective of political parties, leaders with vision and loved by all -The Donald Dukes, the Fasholas, the Chimes, The Obis, the Kwankwasos. Are they made by the Party or do they make the Party.

A look into the APC of today reminds me of the PDP of 1999 - The Atikus, the Obasanjos, the Masaris, the Tambuwals, the Ortoms, the Sarikis, the Okorochas....

Are we really back to square one? Are we doing a 180 or the 360? A food for thought for all. The citizens must eschew party fanatism and hold their leaders accountable irrespective of the party they may belong. The leaders must separate governance from politics too.

Respect to Buhari and Tinubu, by the way. One would think they are the only ones driven by anything with a semblance of 'change'. I admire their political self-esteem since 1999 till date. Since both are unarguably the most important persons of the 'changed' government, I sincerely hope Nigeria will truly witness the desired positive changes and by so doing actualise her immeasurble potentials.
