I share this here to gear our people up to stand up against issues like thisTHE IMPUNITY OF EXECUTIVE CONVOYS ON OUR ROADS:
Yesterday my friends Lois Iorvihi, her younger Sister Joi and brother Jerry were at the receiving end of Police brutality at the instance of an Executive convoy.
The trio were on their way from Makurdi to Abuja. The journey from Makurdi through Lafia to Akwanga was smooth until they got to Nasarawa Eggon less than 100km from Abuja.
If you are familiar with the road, just immediately after the bypass on that sharp bend where many souls have perished, a dispatch rider overtook her car and was crisscrossing in front of her instructing her to clear off the road.
Before she knew what was going on she heard a loud siren from behind. As she was trying to veer off the road, a Hilux van loaded with riot Policemen armed to the teeth pushed her car off the road. In her agitated state she managed to bring the car to a halt in front of the valley.
Immediately she brought the car to a stopped four riot Mobile Police men descended on the car using the nozzle of their rifles to perforate and scratch the body of her car.
While this was going on, her brother seated on the passenger seat wind down and pleaded with the Police men thus:
"PLEASE SIR, TAKE IT EASY. CAN'T YOU SEE THAT SHE IS A WOMAN AND ALREADY AGITATED."
Immediately they dragged him out of the car, used the butt of their rifles on his jaw and beat him up to a pulp.
While this was going on her younger sister Joi brought out her phone and took some pictures. They saw her and seized her phones and Ipad, and smashed all their devices.
Meanwhile Lois has gone hysterical and was screaming on the middle of the road shouting, "Is this fair," repeatedly.
At a stage traffic began to build up on both sides of the road. Someone whispered to her, "Madam their Oga dey inside that Jeep, go and beg him."
She then walked towards the heavily tinted SUV bearing the Nigerian Coat of Arm and insignia of a Governor. When she got to a few yards before the car, the heavily tinted widow was brought down. Lo and behold, seated at the owner's corner was Governor Tanko Al Makura of Nasarawa state.
The first thing the Governor said was, "Young girl, you are so rude. Look at how you're dressed like a prostitute."
(She was wearing a short gown that covered up to her knee).
In her agitated state, she fired back at His Excellency, Governor Tanko Al Makura and said:
"How am I rude. Is this fair? Is this why we voted for you? We did not vote for you so that your convoy will run us out of the road. Look at what your security are doing? They are destroying my car, beating my brother to a pulp and smashing all our mobile devices just because we had the misfortune of driving in front of your convoy?"
Governor Al Makura fired back at her thus:
"You can take the case to wherever you wish or go to hell."
He wind up and his ADC who was standing by the car window pushed her away and entered the car.
She saw his name on the tag on his chest. She called out his name, RINGIM!
And he fired back at her saying, "YES, THAT IS MY NAME. I AM THE GOVERNOR'S ADC. YOU CAN GO TO ANY LENGTH YOU WISH, WE ARE EQUAL TO THE TASK. WE WILL HANDLE YOU. RAT!"
And they zoomed off leaving the Hilux van loaded with riot Policemen.
They arrested Lois, Joi and her brother Jerry and took them back to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Lafia at about 5pm yesterday.
On getting to the station in Lafia, she was slammed with two count charges:
1) OBSTRUCTING THE CONVOY OF GOVERNOR TANKO AL MAKURA.
2) BEING RUDE TO GOVERNOR TANKO AL MAKURA.
The were detained until this afternoon and released after forcing her to write a letter of apology addressed to His Excellency, Governor Tanko Al Makura of Nasarawa state for obstructing his convoy and being rude to him.
As we speak Jerry is in pains and presently receiving treatment from Police brutality.
His offense: Asking the Policemen to take it easy with his sister who was driving in front of Governor Al Makura's convoy.
Joi is depressed! Her phones, Ipad were smashed on the road and a Police man attached to the convoy of Al Makura used his jungle boots and jumped repeatedly on the devices so that they are destroyed beyond repairs.
Take a look at the attached photo of Lois's car. That's her Peugeot 407 without a single dent before the encounter with Governor Tanko Al Makura's convoy.
My people, is this fair? Much as we cannot do anything and Tanko Al Makura and his Rottweilers playing God has all the powers and teeth to deal with hapless citizens who obstructs his convoy on a Federal Highway, we must ask the question again and again, IS THIS FAIR?
Today it is the turn of Lois, Joi and Jerry. Tomorrow it may be your turn. Remember injustice to one, is injustice to all.
Let the words go out, share it widely, the convoy of Governor Tanko Al Makura and the Policemen attached to him are a beast oppressing motorists on the road.
Run for dear life when Tanko Al Makura is driving behind you.

The former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Nigerians to repeat last Saturday’s feat at the poll during this weekend’s governorship and State Assembly elections.

He charged them to repeat the March 28 Presidential and National Assembly elections, which produced the president-elect, Major General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ebora Owu as Obasanjo is fondly called gave the charge in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital during his surprise visit to the popular Itoku market in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the State on Saturday.

The former Chairman of the Board of Trustee, (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who our correspondent gathered arrived the popular Adire market at 4:30pm attracted newsmen to the venue within minutes of his arrival.

Obasanjo visited a few adire (local fabric) store and in no time, the entire market was agog. Obasanjo assured the traders that he will address them.

Yet, the traders, who had left their stores followed him as he made a walk to the local herb section and had a brief chat with the attendant.

While addressing the traders in one of the under construction market hall told them that he had not been opportune to visit the market since he returned from Abuja, saying that, “in the spirit of Easter, he felt it was appropriate to do it during the season”.

The Balogun of Owu Kingdom, who spoke in his mother language (Yoruba) said, “since I came back from Abuja, I have not come here to say hello to you. But, it occured to me that I can do it during this Easter period and that is why I have come. How is business, I hope you are all faring well?”.

The traders rented the air with wild jubilation and chant of, “Sai Baba Obasanjo,.. Sai Buhari,..Sai Amosun!!!.

Fielding questions from newsmen on he visited the market which has over 20,000 traders, Obasanjo said, “since I came back, I have not really visited any market. I have come to do two things. I have come to give them Easter greetings and to find out how they are doing.

“This is my community. As a member of the community, I want to know what is going on and what is happening in the community,” he said.

On his advice to the traders ahead of the April 11 election, Obasanjo retorted, “They should do exactly what they did last Saturday,” he declared as he made into his waiting vehicle.

It would be recalled that Obasanjo retired from partisan politics earlier this year when he openly supervised the shredding of his Peoples Democratic Party membership card. He said he had become a statesman.

Facts have emerged on why Awujale of Ijebuland and other Ijebu monarchs failed to take group photograph with President Goodluck Jonathan when he paid a courtesy visit to the Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II, last Thursday.

Royal fathers who spoke to our correspondent revealed that Jonathan and the national chairman of the Adamu Mu’azu made statements that angered the monarch, noting that, Mu’azu’s description of Ijebus as stingy people played a major role in making the Ijebu visit a fiasco.

Jonathan, the presidential candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was also not endorsed by the Awujale because ahead of the presidential election on March 28, 2015 because the Awujale said Ijebu Obas are not allowed to do so.

As part of his efforts to seek for re-election, Jonathan has been visiting several people, including the monarchs, he visited the South-West repeatedly since the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, postponed the general elections.

The President has traversed the geopolitical zone, holding series of meetings with traditional rulers, religious leaders and other groups and individuals.

Analysts have concluded that the Southwest voters might determine the outcome of the presidential election, as a result, both the APC and the PDP are making strenuous efforts to win the votes of the region.

Last week Thursday, when Jonathan paid a private visit to the Awujale in his palace at Ijebu Ode with the expectation of cow-tow him and other Ijebu monarchs to endorse him as it was done for him at Ile-Ife, Osun state.

Our correspondent can exclusively report that the Presidency has remained unsettled since the visit as they were shocked by what happened at the palace.

Earlier before reading the welcome address by the Dagburewe of Idowa, Oba Y.A. Adekoya, he was quoted to have told Mr President that: “His Excellency, the man you are sitting with now, our own Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona is 81 years old and he has spent 55 years on the throne. The man is wearing gold and you know that gold does not rust,” Dagburewe was quoted to have said amid applause.

Our correspondent reliably learnt that the Presidential protocol officers had tried to rush the MC, who is one of the Otunbas, but the compere bluntly told them: “I am acting on the directives of the Awujale and nobody can give another order. That is our tradition here, we don’t rush.”

Later the Master of Ceremony invited the Obiri of Aiyepe to introduce all the members of the Ijebu Traditional Council numbering about 45.

It would be recalled that as the event was rounding up, the Master of Ceremony announced that all the monarchs should move outside of the palace terrace for a group photograph with the President.

The atmosphere at the Lions Hall, venue of the meeting inside the Awujale palace, instantly changed as most of the monarchs declined to go while those who had intended to go for the picture, having read the body language of others, who are mainly old horses, had to retrace their steps. The photo session was called off as the President hurriedly left the palace.

The show signalled serious disappointment and embarrassment to the President, as the protocol hurriedly guided the number one citizen to his vehicle and zoomed out of the palace to catch up with another appointment at the Nigerian Stock Exchange in Lagos.

One of the highly respected monarchs in Ijebuland, who was part of the meeting confided in that they are not hungry monarchs who can be easily bought over with the President’s dollar, thus, decided on their stand before the meeting.

President Goodluck Jonathan has told the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to secretly investigate the personal and official finances of leading opposition party leaders.

In a leaked letter dated February 19, Jonathan through his Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Jones Oladehinde Arogbofa (rtd), told EFCC investigate 20 persons including All Progressives Congress leaders like former Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu, former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers state.

“I have been directed by the C in C to instruct your Agency to clandestinely investigate the personal and official finances of the following present and former government functionaries and report back by 16th of March,” Arogbofa said in the leaked letter with block letters that read: “THE PRESIDENCY: OFFICE OF THE CHIEF OF STAFF”



Others on the list are: Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo; Speaker, House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; Governor Aliyu Wammako of Sokoto; Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano; Former Gombe state governor, Senator Danjuma Goje; Former Kwara state governor, Senator Bukola Saraki.

Farouk Ahmed, Suleiman Barau, Habib Abdullahi, Captain Muktar Usman, Umaru Ibrahim, Abdulfatah Ahmed, Attahiru B. Yusuf, Aisha Abdurrahman, Sen Aisha Alhassan, Ahmed Modibbo (former Chief Registrar FCT Judiciary) Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufai, former Minister of Education make up the list.

Buhari Meets Jonathan’s Loyalists In Paris

The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammadu Buhari, may have held a secret meeting last night with some loyalists of President Goodluck Jonathan in Paris, sources said from the French capital.

Buhari left Nigeria on Thursday morning officially to hold meetings with key members of the British political class and interact with some global institutions.

But sources said he might have gone to Paris first to meet with some close allies of Jonathan who are seeking reassurance that they won’t be jailed by a Buhari presidency.

It was learnt that Bola Tinubu, an APC leader, two Nigerian former heads of state and a wealthy Lebanese family with extensive business interests in Nigeria may have been part of the people brokering the deal in Paris during a meeting on Thursday night.

The meeting was arranged by a foreign power in Nigeria that seems to have written off President Jonathan.

The negotiations, it was learnt, are based on the fear in Jonathan’s circle that Buhari will try and convict all of the top people in the Jonathan administration who are known to have stolen a lot of cash from the nation’s treasury.

It was learnt that Buhari and the top leadership of APC may be considering amnesty for some of them if he is eventually elected on 28 March.

The discussions are referred to as the Brazillian model, a type of deal where the president offers amnesty and asks the thieves to bring home the money stolen and invest it in the economy.
