This is a non issue. Most of the people commenting here don't know anything about Nigeria. If you do, you won't be talking about "this is a Christian school blah, blah, blah". Most of the Christian schools have changed over many decades to become accessible to both Christians and Muslims alike. Just because a school is called Methodist or St Theresa's doesn't mean it's gates are closed to non Christians. If you don't know, the only thing Christian about these schools are their morning assembly, where they sing and pray in the Christian way. There many non Muslim students at Ansar U Deen school and they don't have any problem. I'm sure the reason why the girl's family were angry was because they weren't told before hand and their daughter was humiliated in school. Hijab has never been an issue. It only covers the hair. I'm not too sure why the school have decided against it but I'm sure we'll soon find out. Nigerians need to wake up and stop all these silliness!

There's nothing wrong with it. Our people have gone too deep into these foreign religions to appreciate it.

The SW isn't worried about all that splitting up business for now. There's nothing to prepare for. But I can tell you without a shadow of doubt that by 2015, we'll still be talking about voting PDP, CPC or ACN. Mark my words!

My take. Yes of course, man can live well without God. We're doing it already! I think like what Haribo said, we should just try & be good for goodness sake. Let's enjoy our time on this planet or somewhere else (ie Moon or Mars, when its habitable & affordable). We only have this lifetime to live. Finito!

Nobody knows what's in that your biblical heaven, my friends. No one even knows if it exist! And even for argument sake, is it the same place as the Muslim heaven? Naija too don dey do American culture since time immemorial. We've always been using American phrases mostly among the youths. But I can't necessary say if we have a takeover. We still write in the British way.

Nigerians! We like to fool ourselves. Let me tell you this. If a young girl in Naija meets a young, successful married man and he takes good care of her, she wont hesitate to marry him. That's the truth! I know christian girls that have said they wont mind being a 2nd wife. In Nigeria, polygamy is in our DNA. You can come on this forum & keep quoting the bible all you like. It wont change that fact. Muslims, Christians & tradtionalist are capable of marrying more than 1 wife. I know many that has done it & they're Christians. Now you can argue they're not true Christians. But to the people that know them, they practice christianity. This same topic could be directed at Christian women & you'll still get the same reaction. Women won't want to share their husbands with any woman regardless of religion. And men will most of the time go after women even when they're married. There are muslim guys that don't like polygamy. Because having one wife sef is enough drama!

Taken over in which country? I don't think it's taken over when it comes to writing, at least in Nigeria. But maybe in speaking & that's mostly with the youths. You can't write American English in Naija, it'll seem incorrect ie taking out the 'U' in 'colour' or writing 'center' (American) instead of 'centre' (British). Unless you live in the US, there's really no reason why anyone in Naija should be writing in American English. That's not what was taught in school.

I think some people are still living in cloud cuckoo land! So, some actually believe marrying a so called 'unbeliever' is going to make them look bad in church? Na wa o! I think the more religiously intoxicated we get in Nigeria, the worse we've become. Our parents and grandparents have had inter faith marriages that has worked very well. Why do we like to complicate things? If you love someone of a different or no faith and you understand the person very well, there's nothing stopping you from settling down together. It's easy to pick and choose when you live abroad but in Naija it's not that easy. Besides, a Yoruba Muslim doesn't operate in the same manner as an Hausa Muslim. That's the reason why we see more inter faith marriages in SW Nigeria than anywhere else in the country. We can't keep lying to ourselves that religion will solve all of our problems. The lack of a simple common sense in the way we handle our affairs has been the reason why we haven't progress as a people and as a nation. We wont be having this discussion if it was simple for a christian or muslim or even a traditional religion practitioner to call their 'Most High', to deliver the perfect husband or wife to their front door.

That's the problem with you religious people, you're quick to propagate separatism. Can't two people just get along without whipping up some religious sentiments? Isn't it time we stop all these backwardness? You think if you're married to someone of the same faith, your life will necessarily be a bed of roses? Love conquers all, people!

IBADAN it is for me o! I've been to Calabar, Abuja & Enugu. And I love them all. I've lived in Lagos too. But my heart still gives it to Ibadan. Spacious, calm and cheap. Oluyole till I qwench!

I think Lagos has been the most constantly developing state in Nigeria. Now, when it comes to enlightenment, it's a bit tricky. I'm saying tricky because of the definition of the word 'enlightened'. Some people are saying it's the most tolerant. Almost every state in Nigeria are tolerant except for certain northern states. And that's a recent development. Almost every state is a melting pot of all tribes. Lagos just has more of it than everywhere else. Lagos has energy & vibe that might not be found in other parts of Naija. People think enlightenment means hustling & trying to pull a fast one. I don't think so. But we can safely say it's the most 'Cosmoplitan State' in Naija.

Ebere1712, I don't think you understand the mentality of that time. You think it was easier for them to just turn against the British? What happened to those that fought against them? Almost got wiped out! And besides, who said those people hadn't fought against the British before? It's 1944! The British have been in Nigeria since the end of the 19th centrury! That's like 60-70 years before the outbreak of WWII. You can't call them cowards. Ebere, I bet you have an English or 'Christian' name. Have you tried to change it? I think it's easier for people to condemn those great men because it seem illogical for someone under colonial rule, waking up and fighting for the same colonial oppressors. But we must not be so quick to judge them. They did what they had to do under an enormously strange circumstance.

What do you mean "If you talk with a Nigerian accent, people cannot understand you."? Who are the people that you're talking to? Trust me, most of the time people don't understand each other. When you first came to the UK, didn't you have a period when you couldn't comprehend what people were saying? People go abroad all the time from Naija and I'm sure they get by quite well with their accent. It's convenient to defend faking accent because we Naija really have low self esteem. A Dutch person wont be speaking with an American accent in Nigeria because he's trying to sound intelligible. The argument for faking accent isn't as strong as you might think. Pronunciation isn't the same thing as faking accent. Accent is sounding like you're from some place. Pronunciation is talking or spelling things clearly. You can pronunce well with an accent. Accent changing while you're living in Nigeria is a tricky phenomenon. Unless you're a 5 year old learning English in an American school, I see no other reason why an adult will be talking in a foreign accent! Chikena!

I think speaking clearly, pronouncing words right etc are usually relevant when say you're dealing with certain non-Nigerian/non-African people. Believe me, a foreigner won't go to Mbaise and expect them to rework their accent for his/her own benefit. Those people don't know how anyway! It's the same thing with someone who has lived in the UK or US for 20years and hasn't been able to shake off their Nigerian accent. These Nigerians have meaningful conversation with these same foreigners in their own country. That's why I don't buy into the faking of accents in Naija. Those people are just silly - end of story! Someone did mentioned maybe those presenters/DJs were trying to appeal to the youth. I seriously doubt that! If that was d case, 9ice's music wont get anywhere because he was singing in Yoruba. I understand our love for the American & British cultures but make we tone it down small small before it gets ridiculous, if it hasn't already sef!

I think the problem with Nigerians is, we tend to want to solve a problem by destroying a whole community. You're advocating for all citizens to carry gun because of the problem in Jos? So, what happens to the rest of the country? Someone was saying it would be hard for anyone to get robbed. Really? You think armed robbers can't come to your house because you've got an AK47? Dream on. That country will be dead in no time! And this CAN that's selling all this rubbish, what do they think they are? People should use their head! We can't solve that country's problem by being irrational.

I was at the premier of The Concubine in abj in march. as Viee as said, that book is a classic and should be treated with respect. what i saw was an eyesore. Pls, i am not a nollywood basher. in fact have been involved in different aspects of filmmaking for the past 10yrs and i'm proud of what nollywood has achieved in its infancy. however, that was an slap on our literary history.

I was only able to stomach about 10mins of the film before i walked out. The saddest part was that elechi amadi was part of the filmming from begining till end, although you cant blame him since he is not a filmmaker. Sad.

Don't you know Nollywood can't tell a good story? I knew the moment someone said Nollywood, the film won't do justice to the novel. Number 1, Nollywood don't have screenwriters! They have people that write something on paper but really it's no screenplay. The most fundamental flaw in Nollywood movies is the script. Nigeria have lost the ability to write a good story for a long time now. And I always laugh when people get excite when a Nollywood film is been paraded around. Writing a script is an artform. They should first understand that basic rule before they try and adapt a good novel to turn into a film.

What's with the fake American accents on Naija radio and television. It's so silly and cringy! I don't know why that crap still persist in these day and age! They need to check themselves, man! Because that s**t is stupid!
