Nigerians and their 'juju'! Somebody is always trying to kill them! Yeye people! For VPersie, if you're scared of getting cursed with juju, don't eat at home, eat at fast food joints. Don't frequent beer parlours close to your area and please avoid showing off. With all that in mind, you should come out unscathed.  

Second largest producers of crap if you ask me!

It's a Nigerian movie done in Hollywood. I think people call every Nigerian film Nollywood, which I believe isn't right. The origin of the name Nollywood isn't flattering at all. It means bad filming, dump script (if there's any) and shoddy production. People tend to forget that. Today's filmmakers from Nigeria don't know about this origin. I don't call every films from Nigeria Nollywood because that degrades the good ones.

Nigeria have good authors but not good screenwriters. Because of this, it maybe slightly difficult to adapt a book for film. Having said that, there are a small pocket of screenwriters in Nigeria and outside of Nigeria. We just need to harness their talents that's all. One day we'll get the balance right!

I don't know why people think when men have affairs, they have a problem! Men are naturally polygamous! We get married because its a natural progression into manhood. But that wont stop us from getting attracted to other women. As per Naija men, we're not bugged down by societal backlash if we stray outside our matrimonial homes. Most times, our women understands that men will always be men. Of course, we love our wives to bits but the lure of the forbidden fruit is just too much to ignore!

I've been lucky with my parents not caning the life out of me and my sisters. My parents were students in England, so I think they became soft. Or that it was never in their nature. I got caned more at school. But having said, what annoyed me most back then was my mum telling us to throw away a fine looking festival rice and quite attractive assorted meat. She does allowed the odd 1 or 2 food from trusted neighbours but to us all food was good! My dad doesn't really bother us too much, neither does our mum, but she does give us a nice slap if we step out of line. My sisters, even though my parents were soft, wouldn't dare bring any boy close to our house. They usually meet at lessons. My opinion is corporal punishment has its merit as well as its negatives.

LOL! I'm sorry, Mrinfo, I don't write. I'm quite familiar with the industry, that's all. I know what a good script looks like and I don't see it from a Nigerian on Nigerian TV screens. Like I had said earlier, the TV stations in Nigeria need to check themselves first and hopefully they'll help correct the situation. The country needs good writers. We see a lot of films and no filmmakers.

I don't think all these name calling will do us any good. We're doing exactly what we're fighting against. We shouldn't be this negative. Any country has the right to protect its borders. We shouldn't be applying the African sentiments to South Africa's situation. It's always a classic case when foreigners are quite obvious in a country. They're the ones that take the blame. But that shouldn't take away from the fact that South Africa needs to control its borders. Nigerians and South Africans on this forum should stop the name calling. We should be working together for one course - The survival of Africa.

It's a very sad story. You still handled the situation well in my opinion. I don't agree with Morpheus24 at all. How can you say an airline staff ignoring their passengers is right? That was a total no no! If that had happened to me, the whole airport would've gone up in serious mayhem! Arik should apologise wholeheartedly to Mr. Akaninyene Inyang and offer to pay him back the $1,200 and more for the stress they put him and his daughter through!

Hmmm!!! It's a very funny situation. I'll say right now there isn't many good writers in Nigeria. Infact, I can categorical say you can count them in one hand. The TV stations themselves are not encouraging good writing. It's difficult to get good writers when there's no avenue to express their creativity. The good writers we have are probably overseas trained and they'll find the Nigerian broadcasting terrain disappointing. Writing a superb series like 24, takes more than just 'Baba gateman wont open the gate'. It's intense and any writer would've to be really good to attempt something like 24. Nollywood has been a culprit. Their so called writers are just people that put something down on papers, that's all. They're not real writers. To get to the level of 24 or the likes, we need good training for potential writers. The film and television industry need to start running themselves the way it should be run. Our TV stations are a joke! Our films (Nollywood), nothing to write home about. If we continue like this, we wont have a smart Nigerian television series on our screens for years to come.

The Mosque is already there! Why are people making look like its just about to be built? The Islamic Centre is already at the site. They're just trying to bring the old building down and raise a new one. It's an Islamic Centre that'll include a Mosque. I think people are just over dramatic jare!

So you think following Jesus isn't idol worshipping? My brother we live in an informed world now. If another religion say these same thing to you, you wont be happy. Orisha, either you like it or not, is ours. We can all profess our love for Jesus or Mohammed, but the truth is these Orishas are our origin.

@Bentola, Busy_body, ikeyman00: I quite understand your concerns. But the truth at this present time is those white Zimbabweans have done well. On the matter of trust, we surely have to be wary of anybody doing business in Nigeria. So, it's up to our government to check that these foreign businesses doesn't short changed Nigeria and Nigerians. We can't stop foreigners from coming to invest but we can try and protect our own people. Most people on here were commending the work these white farmers had done because we don't see much of it in Naija. They did it in the space of 3 to 4 years if I'm correct. It should be an encouraging achievement. We can learn from it. The problem with us is we aren't using the full potential of that country. Someone from outside the country always come and show us what we don't see. It's easy to fault people in Nigeria when one is based outside the country. But what we don't realise is an hungry man doesn't buy into sentiments. All he cares about, is his survival and that of his immediate family.

Why? Don't you think it's only a mad person that will believe there's a God as well? You can't call him a mad man because of his views. You can't prove there's God either. Or can you?

It's difficult to stop piracy. You can only control it to a certain extent. The Nigerian film industry have not done much to combat it. Going to a shop in Alaba and harassing some guy isn't going to solve anything. First things first, the movies producers should stop churning out movies like its going out of fashion! They should try and maximise their film's potential by showing it at cinemas and venues across the country. Then, they should spend money on encrypted DVDs. All that second rated VCD, is so last century! That way they can make enough money for their work. Eliminating piracy is a tall order, I'm afraid!

We hope Mr Subair and his team listens o! They really need to restrategise big time! They'll have to run at loss for a considerable number of years to bring subscribers back. They need to bulk up their bouquet. Get smart people to run affairs. Find good independent producers to make dynamic and enjoyable programmes. Sometimes, I believe they don't know what a good programme is. But I hope they bounce back on time.

HITV can bounce back as long as they change the way they operate. First thing they should realise is that there's no short cut to running a successful TV platform. I don't know what the politics of acquiring more dynamic and 'premium' television channels from outside the country seem like. Example of these sort of 'premium' channels are movies and live sports. Current Hollywood movies are always an audience ratings puller. Also they should try and get people that know how TV is done. Most of their own channels (HI Mix, HI Nolly, HI Kids etc) are weak. I see that they've started a music channel (ONE), which is a good start. What they have to realise is, it cost money to run a good and successful channel. HITV have been known to want to run their channels on the 'too' cheap. SKY TV in the UK took a considerable number of years to break even and that's after they've spent around £400M. If money is going to be a problem, then they should cut their coat according to their size. If they employ intelligent people, they'll definitely become good and the subscribers will come.

The pictures will come soon. There's nothing wrong with showing your rich culture and history. The modern history is on it's way. Lagos, most of the time is all show and no substance. But, I'll readily admit under it's latest Governor, it has been showing more class and substance. Hopefully, Ibadan can wake up and show Lagos and Abuja that we're the pacesetters!

Mama-Gee, you're entitle to your opinion but on this occassion it's off the mark. Nollywood movies haven't improved while their music video counterparts have gone from mediocre videos to world standard gems. Of course, it takes more time and effort to making a movie. But that doesn't change the fact that Nollywood have been selling mediocrity and the industry is full of Producers and Directors who know very little about filmmaking. Some people here are talking about money, but it'll not cost that much to improve on the script, use of camera and just taking their time. Music videos nowadays are cheap to make because of the availability of cheaper cameras and equipments. Really, there's isn't any excuse for Nollywood not to improve.

When the White Man Came to Africa, we had the Land & they had the Bible. They told us to close our eyes & pray, when we opened our eyes they had the Land and we had the Bible.

The old houses and structures should be cherished. Most of the old monuments should be repair and maintain. It's part of the history of the city. I see that Mapo Hall had been done up, which is a good sign. I think hopefully, Ibadan should be able to regain its past glory and become a great city again.

Damiso, you're quite right. I think the problem with us as a people is our lack of contentment. When we spend too much time in church instead of working hard, we end up thinking God will make us wealthy.
@ Okija_Juju, the problem with using the bible to justify what has been holding us down, is that it plays into the hands of those churches that sell prosperity to the poor. The reason why the doctrine of "All Christians will not be rich" is so true is because non christians are rich and wealthy! Even bad people are rich! What we should be teaching our people is to work hard and God will definitely help.

The end has been near since forever! The only end is when we die. That's when all what we're doing on this earth ends. Finito!

The more churches we start, the more wrenched the country gets! Sad! Why do u need all those churches all over the place, if they're trully honest? Common sense has never been our greatest strength.

I think it doesn't really matter. If you die you die! I don't think deep down anyone wholeheartedly believes there's going to be a party after we die. Where sinners and saint are going to be given awards for good behaviour on heart. All religions have a sort of supreme Being. To say the Christian God is the ultimate Being, is just ignorant. You have to have experience all other 'Gods' to come to that conclusion. Even at that, that's not conclusive enough. When people want to argue this fact, they quote from their own religious books. The closest religions are Islam and Christianity. The can't even agree on their 'Gods'! All in all, if there's God or not, what the world needs are good people!

As at right now, none. I'm more of a PAY TV guy. Hopefully, they'll wake up from their slumber and give the viewers correct TV.

There's nothing the viewers can do to make those Naija TV watchable. It's not in their hands. The TV stations have to stop and take a good look at themselves. Most of them have no business in television. Pay TV has come to stay. Nigerian channels need to go back to school. They think they can run a TV station without spending proper money on programmes and employing people that know how to do proper television. If they don't change their ways soon, they'll become irrelevant. The moment majority of the populace starts having either Free-To-Air or any of the PAY TV platforms, that will be the end of those mediocre Nigerian channels.
