This is quite silly. Your premiums are higher BECAUSE:

1. those without insurance can basically walk into the ER, get treatment and go free. YOU (the ignorant noise makers) pick up the tab with your premiums.

2. The healthy (like you) refuse to get insurance and only buy one when you are sick. Where do you think the money to pay for all the medical bills come from? The sky high premiums of those with insurance!

That is why the mandates are kicking in. the larger the pool of the healthy, the lower the premiums are for everyone. think a ponzi scheme, that is how it works.

which is why your premiums are so high too. "administrative costs" are about 30% of what the insurance companies pay out. The government on the other hand would spend less than 5% on administrative costs. Sorry i thot you said the private guys were more efficient.

That's a fraudulent lie! If you fell sick today and had to be on medication for the whole yr you'd be getting way more out of your insurance than you paid in. All the money would be coming from those of us who have been paying for insurance without using it.

In this case, I wont blame the employers. it is a simple case of Demand and Supply. There are too many graduates competing for few jobs. In such instances, HR starts devicing first level barriers to eliminate from the pool of job seekers. Criteria like age, grades (2:1, 1st class req) then come into play. Age Discrimination is the easiest to adopt since the system helps wittling and ensuring Nigerian grads dont finish school before they are 22 (with all the general stikes, internal strikes and NYSC adding atleast 2yrs to the age of readiness for employment. This only follows common sense.
If the economy was buoyant and jobs were being created at the same pace or faster than available hands, age discrimination would be thrown out of the door. The same principles of demand and supply made countries like the UK and US to look to foreign experts to help meet the demand for jobs being created. Trend the requirements for getting HSMP 7yrs ago to the requirments for getting HSMP now, you wold notice the glaring barriers been put in place.

Bottomline is if there are enough jobs being created, employers would be begging and enticing from the available pool, rather than trying to sieve them.

Personally I think Virgin is a silly airline.

Last time I flew Virgin Atlantic was in 2006. On a return flight to Lagos from London, my inflight screen wasn't working, and I asked a male attendant who went 'hey, if it's not working, it's not working. ', and shrugged his shoulders. Their counter at Terminal 3 Heathrow is always rowdy.
